The 15th century home is a treasure chest, complete with a massive log fireplace, exquisite oil paintings and rich Chinese rugs, to name a few. The decadent interiors open up to quiet terraces and lawns that are perfect for barbecue sessions under the stars. Far from the the crowds, bike over to Varennes-sur-Loire for your breakfast croissant and go fishing at the Loire on warm afternoons. Surrounded by a golf course, an opera, a theatre and the Equestrian Cadre Noire, soak up the cultural goodness here. The host knows it's quite the task choosing a place for dinner so we suggest you allow them to serve you tailored recommendations.

Hardbound Volumes

Perfect for a couple, this contemporary oasis in Lanvallay is a real gem. Spend mornings sipping freshly-brewed coffee in the shared garden with today’s paper, afternoons reclining on the plump blue sofa sipping a glass of Muscadet, and evenings in the sleek kitchen rustling up a regional cheese plate – either way, this elegant home is a welcoming space to spend time in.

Inside, there are contemporary designs and a stunning scenic feature wall that creates a sense of calm. It’s a bright and inviting space to unwind after a day strolling the cobbled streets and exploring the 14th-century Dinan Castle, a short drive away. 

Soak up the Brittany culture in Dinan with a tour of the medieval half-timbered houses, a visit to the 15th-century artillery tower of Tour du Coëtquen, and an authentic dinner of pork rillettes at a family-owned bistrot. As evening descends, amble along The Rance River with a sweet chantilly crêpe in hand. 

Scenic & Serene

Located just off the centre of Rennes, this quiet apartment is the perfect base for those looking to explore the city on foot. You're a short walk from Thabor Park for your morning stroll, with bakeries, bars and mini-markets nearby. If you're here for museums and monuments, the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Saint George Palace are also easily accessible, with the historical street of Sainte-Melaine a light walk from your doorstep. 

Stepping inside, the living space is wonderfully bright and open. You'll notice the homey decorative details that add a real warmth to the urban pad – from the red-coloured velvet sofa to the books, ornaments and Hokusai's 'The Big Wave' art prints. The bedrooms are just as stylish, with additional desk space for those working from home, and you'll find a fully-equipped kitchen with a charming, window-side dining area for you to tuck into breakfast around the table while mapping out your tourist itinerary. 

Hokusai's Keep

Once a home for horses, this former stable is perfectly placed for a visit to Rennes. Tucked nicely near Thabor Gardens, it allows you to be close to the city yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle that you can enjoy some much-needed quiet time whenever you retreat back home. 
 
With nods to its history through exposed beams and brickwork, this recently renovated home has been beautifully modernised, while retaining its charm. The sleek, modern kitchen is a delight to cook in, should you decide an evening at home is preferred over dining out. Climb the spiral staircase and you’ll find two comfortable bedrooms to choose from, both of which guarantee a blissful night’s sleep. A fairly neutral palette is broken up throughout the home with pops of colour, giving the whole space a calming, cosy vibe.

Our favourite part of this home is the terrace. Quite the sun trap during the day, it’s a peaceful place to retreat to as evening sets in. Grab yourself a bottle of fine French wine and settle down on the sofas with your loved ones. As night falls and a blanket of stars breaks out above, listen to the quiet chatter of your loved ones and feel yourself relax. This is where memories are made. 

Once Upon a Stable

Sitting right in the historic heart of Rennes and located right next to the city’s oldest house, this elegant apartment puts you in a prime position to soak up all the cultural delights on offer here. 

The living area is beautifully bright and blends Old World sophistication with contemporary style to create an instantly inviting welcome. We love the rose-coloured curtains here that contrast chicly with the black sofa and dining room chairs, while the plant and parrot motif feature wall adds additional character to the proceedings. The main bedroom is a vision of modern elegance with its silver and white palette, as well as its antique-style bureau and we can’t get enough of the kitchen’s terracotta paintwork and exposed brick arch. 

Best of all, however, you have a private courtyard garden to enjoy all to yourself. Whether you’re starting mornings here with a sunny alfresco breakfast or enjoying some local fromage and vin rouge in the evenings, you’ll love having this calm space to retreat to as you listen to the pealing bells of the nearby Cathedral Saint-Pierre.

Aside from the beautiful cathedral that’s just a stone’s throw away, you’re also well-positioned to explore the Portes Mordelaises, the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Parlement de Bretagne. 


Madame Merveilles 

Overlooking the Loire river and sitting in the heart of Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Natural Park, this home's spot on the map is perfect for those in thrall to the French countryside and the large plant-filled garden – almost as large as the house itself – gives you plenty of space and seating to bask in this picturesque scenery.

There's something equally charming about the home's interior, with a range of design influences on display, from rustic wooden ceiling beams and the period fireplace to bursts of bold floral wallpaper and mid-century-inspired furnishings. Given the small guest count, the kitchen is perhaps more generously sized than you might have anticipated and finished off with pretty tiles, too.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the bucolic region, there are ample wine estates and castles to discover, as well as two characterful towns that are easily reached by car. The nearest, Saumur, is the French capital of horses with exhibits and equestrian shows to catch, while Angers is slightly further away and is renowned for its medieval architecture and cultural institutions.

Lifeblood of the Valley

This pretty half-timbered house from the 17th century is located right in the heart of the fairytale-esque Breton town of Dinan and comfortably accommodates up to four guests in its quirky, lovingly-decorated interior that boast its own unique character. 

With a charming blend of original wood features, painted frescos, eye-catching mosaic tiles, and picture frame windows that let in plenty of light, the home feels like it has been lifted from the pages of a Brothers Grimm fairytale. Open up the windows on the ground floor and be greeted by the gentle hum of everyday French village life beyond its pane, allowing the sunlight to stream in whilst you linger over breakfast or a book. 

Step over the threshold and you'll find yourself in the midst of things here in Dinan, with everything from boulangeries to historical attractions right on your doorstep, whilst the coast and its iconic towns such as Saint-Malo are just a short drive away.

The Fairytale Townhouse

Step into this beautiful apartment and be dazzled by the amount of natural light pouring through its French windows. Located in the heart of Rennes’ historic centre, you’ll have the city at your feet, not to mention an elegant base from which to experience it all. 

Parquet floors, tall ceilings and French windows instantly create a striking impression in the living area. We love the natural textures here, from the wicker Acapulco chairs to the long wooden dining table, as well as the windows’ Juliet balconies that invite you to perch by them with your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. 

The main bedroom is similarly bright with its tall windows and generously-sized bed, while its cosy alcove offers a desk space that’s ideal for those looking to catch up on work during their stay. 

Outside of your home, you’ve got plenty to see and do within easy walking distance, including the Cathedral Saint-Pierre de Rennes, the Parlement de Bretagne and the Musée des Beaux-Arts. 


Serendipity of Light

Sitting in Brittany’s Capital, Rennes, this elegant and eclectic residence will provide the perfect backdrop to your city break. The city is renowned for its charming cobblestone streets, local markets and medieval architecture – and with your apartment positioned right in its centre, you’re perfectly placed to experience all that makes this city so culturally rich. 

Pop down to the local boulangerie to pick up a baguette tradition and croissant – it’s only right that you start your day off like a local. Centrally located, there are plenty of adventures to be had on your doorstep. We recommend you visit the 15th-century landmark, Portes Mordelaises and the manicured gardens of Palais Saint-Georges, both within walking distance. Finish up the day by the quayside, sharing a bottle of locally-produced Melon de Bourgogne overlooking the waters of La Vilaine. Amble the vibrant streets home and sink into the plush red sofa for late-night conversations, or sink into the soft sheets in your pretty bedroom for a restful night’s sleep.

Quayside Dreamin'

Converted from a fourteenth-century nunnery in a village near the historic town of Poitiers, The Priory Tower is surrounded by valleys, ponds, and woods in all directions. It’s a quiet area, with a peace disturbed only by the occasional church bells, or birdsong. The local markets around here are overflowing with produce (this part of France remains an agricultural centre), and if you want to get away from civilisation, there are all manner of trails, lakes and rivers to explore. As a home, The Priory Tower feels like a part of France that got left in the past, away from the bustle and stress of modern life, and that’s quite a special feeling.


The Priory Tower

You'll find this smart new apartment in the up-and-coming Madeleine-Champ de Mars area by the river. Part of a modern development, it's been put together with great care and attention. Here you'll be just a short stroll from La Cité des Congrès, the stunning Château des ducs de Bretagne and The Lieu Unique cultural centre.

Up on the fourth floor, your home is a breath of fresh air, with comfy furnishings and contemporary decor. Views out across the neighbourhood come thick and fast through numerous large windows, and there's a homey feel to the place. A separate kitchen is made more sociable thanks to an internal window and a couple of kitchen stools means there's somewhere to sit and chat while the kettle boils. But it's the bedroom that's our favourite room, along with the small but very stylish shower room.

Fresh Face

Situated high in the heart of the city, this charming apartment exudes classic beauty. With a contemporary feel, this home has still managed to maintain its traditional charm with rustic floors and a restored fireplace. The bedrooms are spacious and tastefully decorated ensuring you have a peaceful night's sleep, ready to take on the day. Wake in the morning, pop on your coffee machine and plan for a day of sightseeing and shopping in Nantes. 

We love the living and dining space here, it’s just perfect for a sociable evening at home. Open a bottle of French wine and you have the most magnificent backdrop to reminisce about your day. The towering windows let in the warm sunshine and bathe the room in light – take a peek through to see the world go by below. Should you opt for an evening in to whip up a lovely meal with some local produce rather than dine out at one of the many restaurants in the area, you have a well-equipped kitchen to do so. With a homely design and ideal location, this home has everything you need for a delightful French experience.
