It’s based just a short stroll away from the stunning Racou beach, where you can enjoy a dip in the Mediterranean, sunbathe on the sandy shore, or sip on a glass of champagne in a beach bar. We adore how this home is packed with character – ornate tiled floors, elegant light fixtures, traditional artwork and chic French furniture give it a je ne sais quoi that’s rare to find. There’s plenty of places to make lots of memories here – the beautiful outdoor pool provides the perfect place to cool off in the sunshine, while the terrace invites you to sip on sundowners while you watch the sky turn pink on warm summer evenings. For autumn and winter stays, you can cosy up around the fireplace with a French hot chocolate – drunk out of a bowl, of course – or spend evenings stuck into a good book in the library with a glass of wine.

Not far from the Spanish border you’ll find Perpignan, a classified City of Art and History – thanks to its roots as a former Majorcan capital – and home to this eclectic apartment. It’s only fitting that the bold interior echoes elements of both Spanish and French flair as an ode to its surroundings. When you wander out, you’ll find Spanish influences in the Cathedral of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the majestic promenade des Platanes. We can't think of many things better than living right on the beachfront of the French Mediterranean coast. Sitting four floors up with a spectacular panoramic view of the breakers, this effortlessly chic, modern home adds a slice of luxury to beach holidays. Inside, there’s everything you need to relax and unwind, from the colourful sofa and stylish wicker chairs to the tasteful bedrooms with their large windows that welcome in the morning sunlight. But our favourite spot has be the grand, sweeping balcony that directly overlooks the beach and the vast sea. From here, gaze out towards the horizon as you sip a sundowner cocktail with your favourite people, or enjoy dinner in the lukewarm night air. The hub for beach activities is directly over the road, so whether you want to go swimming, kayaking or windsurfing in the balmy Med, you'll be in the water in minutes. If you can tear yourself away from the sandy shores, a half-hour car ride will get you to Perpignan, loved for its renowned cultural scene and wide array of restaurants and bars.

A modern, stylish and comfortable home in an enviable position, a little more than ten minutes walk from Les Angles' famous ski area, this place has bags of appeal. Over three floors, with its own ski storage room and views across the countryside all the way to the nearby Lac de Matemale and the mountains beyond, it's family-friendly and roomy enough for a large group.

We love the styling here, with its mix of stone floors, local timber and exposed stone. The living room has comfy sofas and a log burner to keep everyone toasty in the depth of winter, and there are a few decorative touches that may come as a quirky surprise (we love the bear in the living room and the ski mask mirror in the hall). A well-equipped, modern kitchen comes with everything you'll need and there's a dining table seating eight.

Elsewhere, bedrooms and bathrooms are all individual and smartly furnished – our favourite being the main bedroom with its partly open en-suite. And kids will no doubt love the bunk room. Close to the centre of the village, you'll be within walking distance of its shops and restaurants, with all the resort facilities at your fingertips.

Nestled amongst the Mediterranean woodland, this former 13th-century farmhouse is located between the foothills of the Pyrenees and the Spanish border. The well-designed interiors reflect the Catalan heritage, and the building benefits from ground-floor bedrooms and en-suites. Outside living is where this home shines – whether you want to unwind by the swimming pool, explore the gardens or enjoy a glass of Byrrh, a local aperitif on the terrace. The location suits those eager to explore the woodland, but the beaches aren't too far away either.

Small but mighty and offering many of the mod-cons that you could need for a quiet, restful stay in Les Angles – a picturesque part of the sweeping Pyrénées-Orientales mountain range offering walking and biking trails in the summer, and excellent skiing opportunities in winter – this compact, timber-clad holiday apartment reminds us of a cosy bird's nest tucked away in the area's hilly landscape. 

Whilst the wood-panelled double bedroom is brought to life with quirky design touches and exudes a uniquely alpine charm, the kitchen/living area provides the perfect place to join as a group and spend some quality time together. Indeed, the close quarters, unfussy interior, and lack of extravagant amenities mean that this home is all about two simple pleasures – reconnecting with loved ones and realigning yourself with nature.

Amble through the town of Les Angles, stopping for a bite in one of its authentic restaurants – which, thanks to its positioning close to the border, consists of a delicious blend of French and Spanish flavours packed into hearty fare for mountainous terrain. Or, why not treat yourself to an afternoon at the Angléo Spa, just 600 metres away from the apartment? 

If you fancy getting out of town and into some of the spectacular scenery that surrounds you, then take the journey of just under four kilometres to the beautiful Lake Matemale – which is known for its range of summertime watersports as well as fantastic hiking around its perimeter.

The open-plan kitchen, living room and dining area are bathed in natural light coming in through large French doors, so to stay here is to move in to a vibrant, sociable space to prepare meals, play games, and whip up cocktails – complete with sun-kissed balcony to enjoy them on. The design and furniture nod to the sea with aquatic motifs, sleek blue seating, glass top table and polished silver flooring. When you’re not basking in the sun on your balcony, lazy days are best spent on Argelès Beach mere steps from your door. The seven-kilometre long beach is known for its warm sand and glistening water, as well as its seafront promenade with its surplus of shops, restaurants, late-night bars, and children's play area.

Nestled away in the mountain village of Les Angles with a superb view of Lake Matemale, this idyllic chalet has a long list of ways to keep you warm and toasty, even at the height of winter.

The most obvious option is to hunker down among the comfy throws in the living room next to the contemporarily styled fireplace – especially as some of the best views are to be had out through the huge window in this space – but guests also benefit from both a private sauna and a hot tub out on the terrace.

There's something ultra-cosy and homely about the design, which embraces all the traditional features you might expect to see in a home such as this – we're talking an abundance of wood, soft lighting and a few antler-themed decorative items. That being said, it's modern where it matters, particularly the sleek black kitchen and bathrooms.

During the warmer months, there's a balcony terrace on which you can sit out and survey the majestic scenery, as well as another on the ground level. The aforementioned lake that you can spot in the distance is only 4km away, ready and waiting for walks and watersports. When snowfall covers the slopes, however, there's a shuttle that takes you up to the slopes a mere 100 metres from the front door.

Sandwiched between northern Spain's mountains and the Mediterranean sea, this apartment has incredible views over Costa Brava. Sliding doors surround the living area, flooding the white- and sand-hued room with sunshine. Push the doors open to relax on the wraparound balcony – prime position goes to the sun loungers and small breakfast table, which look directly over the waves. When you get too warm, wander down to the communal pool to cool off. Interiors are simple, with earthy, neutral tones in bedrooms – think swirling terracotta browns and clay reds on walls, with unique Japanese-style beds in two of the rooms. Both of the dining tables look on to beautiful vistas, though for a sea breeze, head out to the alfresco space – perfect for cool glasses of wine and star gazing.

The estate consists of a magnificent 19th-century château, an adjoining 16th-century farm, two separate cottages, and a magnificent 12th-century chapel, making it a historical treat.

Spend your days gazing out the balcony at the 360-degree views of stunning countryside and the Pyrénées beyond, and even get a cup of coffee to get your day started perfectly. This home has an abundance of options for keeping you entertained throughout your stay, from racing down the zip line for an adrenaline rush to boating along the little lake for a relaxing day drifting along, lured by your favourite book. Back at the house, enlist the assistance of a private chef to enjoy alfresco meals as glasses are raised and jokes abound.

It is absolutely tranquil to be placed in six hectares of private gardens, yet you get the best of all worlds since numerous places are only a short drive away. Pamiers is only a fifteen-minute drive away, and you must visit the vibrant Saturday market before stopping at a bakery for scrummy delicacies.

Once a vineyard, the garden is now home to a stunning octagonal swimming pool, reminiscent of a Moorish plunge pool, a ping pong table, outdoor dining with a barbecue, and a wrap-around terrace overlooking the endless fields and forests. The view here is particularly breathtaking at sunset. Inside, the ancient stone walls are adorned with unique pieces by local artists and shelves show off trinkets from around the globe. The kitchen retains its old farmhouse charm, but shining chrome appliances give away the 21st-century make-over. A collection of outbuildings are now home to covered outdoor dining with the rustic simplicity of a monk’s refectory, and an old storeroom has been converted into a plush home cinema with velvet seats and perfect acoustics. Bedrooms feel hotel-grade luxurious, but what we really love are the retained old flourishes of the former farmhouse – stone tables for grinding corn, stone barrel rooms now holding bedrooms and a master bedroom in the old kitchen, still with its striking ancient hearth. Breakfast is also included every day.
