Situated in the charming village of Chantemerle, this apartment is just a three-minute walk from the gondola linking you to Serre Chevalier’s spectacular 250 kilometres of piste. There’s also a footpath, for all building residents, which leads to River Guisane – perfect for a stroll. In fact, the large living room overlooks a larch forest and the river beyond. We love the vistas of the piste from the southwest-facing balcony. If you need to work from home, there’s a workspace here too.

You might have to pinch yourself when first looking out at the views from this Swiss chalet. Whether it's through the double-height windows or out from the private balcony, the Swiss mountains rise in all their glory. Known for its beginner-friendly slopes and stunning Swiss Alps scenery, it's no surprise that Villars-sur-Ollon is a popular destination for families. Whether you're after excellent hiking in the summer, fantastic skiing in the winter or just a relaxing getaway in the mountains, there's something for everyone here, especially with the gondola a twelve-minute walk away, a free ski shuttle service and the restaurants and shops in town only six minutes by car.

This cosy chalet shows off the idyllic views in every direction and makes an ideal base for anyone exploring the region. You'll feel right at home in this rustic hideaway, with the open-hearth fireplace, squishy sofas and wooden panelling creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. It's the perfect place to kick off your snow boots and unwind with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book.

Our favourite spot to soak up the sunshine (and the scenery) is the deck off the main bedroom. Enjoy a cup of coffee there in the morning before rustling up breakfast in the kitchen, then grab your skis and snowboards and hit the slopes. When your toes feel frosty and your muscles are sore, head back home to a roaring fire and some delicious cheese fondue around the oak dining table before snuggling up for a family movie night in the lounge.

Right in the heart of France's Three Valleys lies Courchevel, one of the most famous ski resorts in the Alps. You'll find this apartment in the village, just a stone's throw from lifts, gourmet restaurants and eateries. As far as locales go, you can't beat it.

When you're not exploring this idyllic corner of the Alps, make yourself comfortable back at home. Ditch your gear in the on-site ski locker, then relax sore muscles with a session in the shared sauna or a yoga lesson. The balcony is actually our favourite spot – the snow-capped mountain view is incredibly hard to resist. Regardless of the weather, we think it's the ideal backdrop for sunset glasses of French wine and steaming mugs of hot chocolate – sounds postcard-perfect to us.

Inside, the chalet-chic design evokes that warm and homey feeling as soon as you step inside – picture wood-clad walls, faux fur throws and a gleaming contemporary kitchen that's a dream for whipping up family feasts. There are catering options available here, too – whether you fancy pre-made breakfasts, Michelin-starred dinners delivered straight to your door or a private chef, you'll be well looked after by your friendly hosts.

Although it’s a studio, the apartment itself feels spacious and it has plenty of character courtesy of the exposed brick wall and hardwood floor. A wall of windows lets in plenty of sunshine during the day and a room divider separates the living and bedroom area from the dine-in kitchen. There’s even a stylish, Scandinavian-esque desk if you want to work remotely. If you want to get around the compact town of Annecy in a flash, your host provides complimentary bikes for sightseeing.

There’s plenty of storage for your skis here too, so that means you can go from pain au raisin to powder in no time at all. And that’s not all. Inside, the design of this home has been immaculately thought-out. Wooden walls and ceilings keep things nice and warm, and the faux-fur rugs, throws and cushions really ramp up the cosy factor. The bedrooms are playfully set out, with cuddly toy heads mounted on the wall in the children’s room, and luxuriously soft furry blankets in the master bedroom. When you’re ready to hit the slopes, experienced skiers can ski straight from the chalet via a blue slope – otherwise, it’s a mere 1.5 kilometres to the lifts at Le Plan.

You don’t have to look far to find proof of the enviable position – simply wander out onto the balcony and you’ll spot the rolling green mountain there as confirmation. But it isn’t just about the views either, not when the ski slopes of Les Evettes are a mere 1.8 miles away and can be reached via the free shuttles that run in season. Get on the snow and test your mettle on the different ski runs, before coming back for a warming Après-ski drink on the balcony. 

The mix of natural wood and a light colour palette makes this home feel incredibly cosy and we can imagine ourselves curling up on the couch in thick socks and a slouchy jumper. Enjoy cups of coffee as you socialise in the lounge, or carve out some you-time by getting your nose in a novel.
