While you won't find the ancient, gnarled beams of some of the vast chalets in this upscale French resort, its wood-clad walls pair perfectly with the mid-century-style furnishings and faux animal fur. The open layout provides a sociable sanctuary out of the elements. When the sun's shining, you're welcome to make the most of the spacious decking equipped with Acapulco chairs and a bubbling hot tub. Moreover, each of the three welcoming bedrooms offers its guests direct access to the deck, ideal for rushing back inside after a wintry dip in the water.

The apartment's location in Courchevel Moriond (formerly 1650) ensures easy access to some of the finest skiing in the French Alps, in the form of the titanic Les Trois Vallées. Meanwhile, the fact it's on the edge of this area means that the slopes are often quieter. After an adrenaline-fuelled day on the mountain, Moriond is known for its vibrant après-ski scene. In addition, it offers a variety of restaurants serving everything from homemade burgers to haute cuisine.

Ice Bear

A golf course in the summer, this luxury ski resort is a real hole-in-one during the winter months. Located in the haute-savoie region of the French Alps, you’ll be within a short ski lift ride from zooming down pristine alpine slopes. Inside, you won’t miss the snowy peaks with picturesque mountain views welcomed in through the vast windows. The open-plan kitchen, dining area and living room benefits from antique chandeliers, medieval artwork and wooden beamed ceilings that creates a stylish yet homely ski-chalet ambience – perfect for relaxing after thrilling days gliding down the powder. Speaking of, unwind with a calming swim in the shared pool, or head to the sauna and steam room for a complete detox. Make the most of the resort by eating your way through hearty meals at a surplus of restaurants, cafes and bars on the complex. You’re close enough to the centre of Les Arcs ski resort, boasting stunning funicular terrains with glorious Alpine backdrops if you want to venture further afield. 

Rudolph

If you want to be surrounded by lake and mountain views, look no further. There’s a Nordic-style hot tub on the terrace, large gardens, a kids’ play area and pétanque pitch, as well as a shaded pergola for dining. The accommodation is over three floors, and all of the rooms capitalise on the wonderful vistas. Three bedrooms have access to a balcony, while the spacious fourth on the top floor has a seating and workout area. If you want to do some winter sports, the ski resorts of La Sambuy and Semnoz are just under thirty minutes away. In summer, there's a lakeside beach just 2 kilometres from this home, and the Voie Verte cycle and footpath passes the door.

Blue Mountain Lake

If you're looking for a quirky place to stay during a getaway to the French Alps, then this unique home could be the one for you. It's a traditional mazot house, built above ground and supported by stilts, just outside Les Houches – for lovers of the great outdoors, it doesn't get much better than this. 

Inside, the wood-panelled walls create a toasty ambiance where you can settle in and rest your tired legs. The decor is simple yet comfortable, and you can cook up your favourite dishes in the kitchen to refuel after a busy day. The bedroom is cosy, and even has a glass floor panel overlooking the kitchen diner so you can wave hello to your guests. And, if you head outside, there is a private terrace with views across to Mont Blanc, along with a shared garden where kids can play in the fresh air. 

Le Prarion lift is only a five-minute drive away, so you can don your skis and enjoy a brilliant day shredding some powder on the slopes. When it's time for some après-ski fun, then head into Les Houches or take the eight-minute drive over to the famous resort of Chamonix, with its upmarket restaurants and decadent bars. And, during the warmer months, there is a wealth of activities right on your doorstep – from horse riding and mountain biking to rock climbing and even paragliding, you won't run out of things to do easily. 

Mazot in the Mountains

This place is perfect for family or friends with its cosy fireplace, sauna, TV and games area, and dormitory room that the children will love. There’s also a reading corner and an office space for when you need to catch up on work. Set at the end of a private road on the edge of the forest, this home has a wonderful location. It’s 500 metres from the ski lifts and offers easy access to hiking and bike trails.

A short stroll takes you to the Marie Paradis Promenade, a beautiful walkway that provides you with amazing views of the encompassing trees and mountains that reach through the clouds. You'll reach a bridge that you can walk across where you can listen to the sound of the river rushing beneath your feet. Dining out in style is as easy as pie here, with a fantastic selection of eateries to sample cuisine from around the world. After exploring the area, head into the cosy Le Jekyll pub for some delicious food and a refreshing pint. 

Verdant Twilight

This is a cosy 2-storey apartment block located in the sunny district of Le Lac, close to the center and various attractions. The apartment features comfortable furnishings, including a living/dining room with a double sofa bed and flat-screen TV, an open kitchen with modern appliances, and a balcony with stunning panoramic views of the lake.
