Found in the French commune of Arraute-Charritte, this typical basque house is bursting with understated charm and an inviting atmosphere that’s hard to ignore. Step foot inside and you’ll find yourself longing for easy mornings and long, contented afternoons. In this surfer's paradise, their tastes are well-catered for – you're far more likely to grab something healthy than anything with chips in the nearby eateries. We think the home is better suited to a family or firm friends, given any nighttime trips to the bathroom involve using the only bedroom's ensuite. And with free parking available, you're not only confined to the local beaches – drive to the forest at Landes, or the nearby city of Bordeaux.

We love the mix of old and new in this charming country house on the outskirts of Mimizan. Glass panels sit above beamed ceilings, skylights have been added to the slanted roof, and French doors flood the open living space with sunshine. Bedrooms are strikingly modern, the attic room paying homage to the ocean with a monochrome beach print and knotted lamp stands, while the master's sliding doors open up to a large en-suite with a huge rainfall shower. Better known for its Atlantic rollers and camping sites, this stretch of the French coast is all about laid-back summer living. On the outskirts of Bidart, this home epitomises that with its clean lines and minimalist style. Using white walls, yellow sofas, and geometric light fittings, the apartment feels modern and new. When it comes to beaches, both Grand Plage and Plage d'Erromardie sit only twenty minutes' walk from the home, while the portside restaurants and market of St Jean de Luz take slightly longer. The resort town of Biarritz is just a half-hour drive away, too.
