However, it isn't all style over substance, and this home has plenty of useful amenities including a dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, and iron. In this surfer's paradise, their tastes are well-catered for – you're far more likely to grab something healthy than anything with chips in the nearby eateries. We think the home is better suited to a family or firm friends, given any nighttime trips to the bathroom involve using the only bedroom's ensuite. And with free parking available, you're not only confined to the local beaches – drive to the forest at Landes, or the nearby city of Bordeaux.

With Plage des Bourdaines' vast golden beach stretching out before you just a ten-minute walk away, this tree-lined apartment is an ideal base for groups of friends or families looking to soak up the delightful sea breeze of Seignosse. Spend days relaxing on the sands, swimming in the shallows and playing golf at the nearby course. 

Inside, you'll find a sociable open-plan living space, framed by the sliding patio doors, instantly expanding your communal area. The three bedrooms are spread over two floors so there’s lots of space while the garden patio and balcony encourage alfresco dining. 

Location-wise, you’re perfectly placed here. The coastal region of Hossegor is laidback and welcoming, with plenty of delectable restaurants and lively bars dotted around. Further afield, you'll find the elegant seaside town of Biarritz to the south, forty minutes away by car.

We love the mix of old and new in this charming country house on the outskirts of Mimizan. Glass panels sit above beamed ceilings, skylights have been added to the slanted roof, and French doors flood the open living space with sunshine. Bedrooms are strikingly modern, the attic room paying homage to the ocean with a monochrome beach print and knotted lamp stands, while the master's sliding doors open up to a large en-suite with a huge rainfall shower. On cooler days, the feature fireplace is the perfect place to warm up – though bright sunflower prints give the impression of an endless summer. The outdoor pool and sun loungers are on hand for those hot, balmy days and the large gardens hide several seating spots, including a patio with outdoor kitchen and barbecue for whipping up something delicious.

With a truly enviable location on the Pyrénées-Atlantiques overlooking the endless blue of the Atlantic Ocean, this 1930s-style villa was made for lazy summer afternoons.

There are a plethora of spots to sit and soak up the sunshine, whether that's surveying the surroundings from the balcony, tucking into dinner on the terrace or reading in the peaceful gardens. If this all sounds a little too inactive, you're more than welcome to notch up a couple of lengths in the swimming pool or hone your forehand on the tennis court.

The interior feels bright and cooling thanks to the white walls, tiled flooring and French doors. An extensive collection of colourful artwork is sure to catch the eye, although it must be said that sports fans will much prefer the foosball table.

When it comes to beaches, both Grand Plage and Plage d'Erromardie sit only twenty minutes' walk from the home, while the portside restaurants and market of St Jean de Luz take slightly longer. The resort town of Biarritz is just a half-hour drive away, too.

Whether you're working from home at the desk, enjoying a meal around the dining table or relaxing under the rainfall shower in the stylish bathroom, this hideaway is sure to be just what you need.

This is a beautiful and modern single-family house located in Mimizan, just 600m from both the downtown area and the beach. The cosy beach house offers comfortable and modern furnishings, including air conditioning throughout. It features a spacious living/dining room with a flat-screen TV, an open kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, and four bedrooms. The house also has a large terrace with outdoor furniture, a barbecue, and a view of the forest. Additionally, guests have access to free wi-fi, parking for up to three cars, and laundry facilities. The home is within walking distance of shops, restaurants, bike rentals, and surf schools. Pets are welcome but smoking is not allowed.

Once Upon Mimizan

This modern holiday home is located on the sunny coast of France, straddling the Bay of Biscay. The open-air design and tall sliding doors lay bare the home to natural sunlight and forest scents. We can’t get enough of the details here, from the panelled wood ceilings to the mid-century furniture that welcomes you in. It’s easy to fall into the warm embrace of the carefully curated interiors, with plush pillows and cosy sofas lining the communal areas. This is a great holiday home for a family or group of friends ready to explore the southern region of France and its enchanting countryside. Alternatively, the home is within close proximity to the Spanish border, so why not hop in the car and take a day trip to Bilbao to sample traditional Spanish tapas? For more local activities, the wetland reserve of Marais d’Orx and sandy beaches are close by.

Better known for its Atlantic rollers and camping sites, this stretch of the French coast is all about laid-back summer living. On the outskirts of Bidart, this home epitomises that with its clean lines and minimalist style. Using white walls, yellow sofas, and geometric light fittings, the apartment feels modern and new. Chill out on one of the Eames rocking chairs, soak up some rays on the deckchairs or watch what's cooking in the kitchen from the breakfast bar. A small balcony looks out over hills and other homes and is our favourite spot for assessing the conditions for the day's adventures. If surfing is on the cards, it's less than a 10-minute drive to Bidart beach, while Biarritz and its glamorous facade is just 15. Not in the mood for that much activity? We suggest padding down to the communal pool for lengths, before heading back to the terrace for a glass of something icy.

In the centre of the seaside town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, this duplex loft apartment is bright and breezy, just like the town. A four-minute walk sees you at the Grande Plage, the town’s horseshoe of golden sand lined with loungers and a calm spot for swimming. Here you’ll find local restaurants serving up the seafood-rich basque cuisine. Closer to home, the classic indoor market of Les Halles de Saint-Jean-de-Luz is less than a minute from the apartment, where you can stock up on fresh, local produce to take back to the full kitchen. Sleek, modern cabinets in dove grey hide myriad appliances to whip up a family meal, enjoyed at the stylish dining table set for six. The open living, dining room and kitchen is made bright by sliding glass doors that open up to a Juliet-style balcony, looking out over the city’s rooftops. A motif of white and blue throughout is a reminder that the sea is just beyond your street and skylights in the bedrooms flood the place with natural light.

Found in the French commune of Arraute-Charritte, this typical basque house is bursting with understated charm and an inviting atmosphere that’s hard to ignore. Step foot inside and you’ll find yourself longing for easy mornings and long, contented afternoons. Start with coffee in bed as you stay under the plush covers for a while longer to finish one more chapter of the novel you’re reading. When a hungry tummy can no longer be ignored, pad downstairs to put together a breakfast of croissants and scrambled eggs – although it can be enjoyed at the dining table, you may as well elevate every meal by dining alfresco in the garden.
