This home in the south of France offers sun, sand, and so much more. It's located just a twelve-minute drive away from the coast, and has a fantastic range of amenities that will keep even the fussiest guests smiling. 

There's a relaxed ambiance throughout the house, thanks to the warm colour scheme and use of natural wood. You can relax on the huge sofa with a glass of wine, challenge your guests to a round of pool, or take a nap in one of the serene bedrooms. This home was also made for outdoor living – head onto the patio and soak up the sun, before plunging into the glittering swimming pool. And, when you get hungry, you can enjoy a delicious grilled feast hot off the barbeque along with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. 

Take the short drive over to the beach, and you can pick from a range of beaches – we recommend dipping your toes in the Atlantic Ocean at Plage des Océanides. If you fancy a game of golf, then the nearest course is also a twelve-minute drive away. And, the Réserve Naturelle Nationale du Marais d'Orx is a wonderful place for a walk through the wetlands – it's just ten minutes away by car. 

Holiday Heat

Perched above a gorgeous stretch of coast, this Hossegor retreat combines stunning views with close proximity to the beach and the city centre. In this surfer's paradise, their tastes are well-catered for – you're far more likely to grab something healthy than anything with chips in the nearby eateries. We think the home is better suited to a family or firm friends, given any nighttime trips to the bathroom involve using the only bedroom's ensuite. And with free parking available, you're not only confined to the local beaches – drive to the forest at Landes, or the nearby city of Bordeaux. 

Huxley's Hideaway

We love the mix of old and new in this charming country house on the outskirts of Mimizan. Glass panels sit above beamed ceilings, skylights have been added to the slanted roof, and French doors flood the open living space with sunshine. Bedrooms are strikingly modern, the attic room paying homage to the ocean with a monochrome beach print and knotted lamp stands, while the master's sliding doors open up to a large en-suite with a huge rainfall shower. On cooler days, the feature fireplace is the perfect place to warm up – though bright sunflower prints give the impression of an endless summer. The outdoor pool and sun loungers are on hand for those hot, balmy days and the large gardens hide several seating spots, including a patio with outdoor kitchen and barbecue for whipping up something delicious.

Elderflower Wine

This contemporary flat sits within walking distance of the lake, the sea and a sprawling stretch of sandy beaches. Hossegor is a lively spot if surfing, sunbathing and swimming are on your to-do list – add in the excellent restaurants and beachfront bars and we think it's an excellent spot to soak up the sunshine.

When you're not out exploring, retreat to this laid-back apartment and rest your feet. A cosy living space, sleek kitchen and comfortable bedrooms provide ample space to spread out, and a west-facing patio serves as the perfect spot to savour a glass of wine. Whether you're working from home at the desk, enjoying a meal around the dining table or relaxing under the rainfall shower in the stylish bathroom, this hideaway is sure to be just what you need.

All Is Swell

Absolutely surrounded by cafes, bars, and restaurants, this stylish home in San Sebastián is a foodies idea of heaven. But you don’t need to be clued up on the difference between kale and cavolo nero to appreciate all that’s on offer here. The inside, for one, is a beautiful blend of crisp white and intricate patterns – a credit to the host, as it takes a trained eye to mix as many motifs without a clash. The sleek black kitchen sits in sharp contrast to the rest of the home and is pretty spacious, so if you do want to try and replicate some of the recipes you've come across, then we’re sure your family and friends would love to sample it around the dining table. 

From the lounge, you can keep an eye on the beachfront, but why not move a little closer with a glass of rioja and sit out on the balcony overlooking the Cantabrian Sea. Watching the sunset from here would undoubtedly be beautiful, but we recommend walking six minutes to the Sagües park known for sunset walks. 

Spend one whole day exploring Old Town – it is a thirty-minute walk to get there, but there are a couple of historical landmarks, as well as an observation deck that looks out over the ocean, that’s well worth the trip. When you’re not kicking back with cocktails at one of the bars, or sunbathing on the beach, you can wander the streets of San Sebastián, hoarding as many treats as possible. Take it all back home, kick back, and indulge as you let go of every last bit of stress.

The Terracotta Lookout

Modern textural elements come into play in this fresh-feeling apartment. Situated in the artistic neighbourhood, Egia, this home is within ten minutes of the Tabakalera cultural centre and the artworks adorning the neoclassical chapels of Polloe Cementerio. This elegant home provides an idyllic base for a solo traveller, a couple, or close friends seeking a modern retreat right in the cultural hub of San Sebastián.

With a contemporary and textured aesthetic - the herringbone wood floors, striped and patterned rugs, and mosaiced lighting fixtures - it is at once effortlessly cool and cosy. Enjoy your morning coffee on the balcony overlooking the Plaza Teresa de Calcuta or whip up some quick bites in the open kitchen before heading out to La Concha for a seafront picnic. For a spot of sightseeing, make the twenty-minute walk through the old town up to Paseo Nuevo, where you can admire Jorge Oteiza’s Construcción Vacía bronze sculpture. Adopt the Basque lifestyle on pintxo-pote Thursdays by sampling the city’s savoury snacks.

Textures of Tranquility

Housed in a former hotel with a magnificent, marbled entrance hall, this flat feels classically French – from the hardwood floors and checkered tiles to the huge windows and balcony doors that bathe each room in light. Chic and modern, yet still retaining that Belle Époque charm, there's an understated elegance to this apartment that immediately draws you in. The balcony in particular is a dream come true – it's the perfect spot to sip morning cups of coffee and evening glasses of bubbly, all while admiring the architecture of downtown Biarritz. We love that whether you’re in bed or on the couch, you are never without a view. When you're ready to hit the beach, just grab a towel, walk five minutes, and viola! Spread out and sunbathe on the Playa De Biarritz. When you grow peckish, there's an impressive collection of restaurants and cafes on the seaside promenade, or simply head back home and whip up a meal in the shiny kitchen. After a long day, unwind with a bottle of wine in the dining room (or even better, the balcony) before nodding off in the sumptuous bedrooms.

Très Chic

Situated in the curious seaside town of Biarritz, where upscale boutiques sit beside laidback surf shops, this breezy apartment is the perfect base from which to explore France’s southwestern coast. Inside the home, it’s relaxed and light-filled with glorious ocean views from the living space and bedroom. Begin slow mornings with brioche and espresso on your private balcony or potter about in the pale-painted living space, putting together a picnic in the kitchenette ahead of an afternoon at the beach. Choose between the Plage De La Chambre D'Amour, a fifteen-minute stroll from your doorstep, and the Plage Miramar, reached in less than ten minutes by foot. After frolicking in the shallows and basking in the sunshine, take the twenty-minute walk into the centre of town for glasses of full-bodied red in traditional bistros and tastes of artisanal produce in Halles Market – you mustn’t leave without trying a slice of indulgent gâteau basque. 

Between The Beaches

A comfortable design with cool tones to make you feel at ease, while terracotta accents around the home offer a splash of colour, as do the exquisite rugs that compliment the décor. The open plan living area is the perfect spot for gathering everyone in the morning for a coffee while preparing a hearty breakfast and relaxing on the rattan chairs beside the dining table. We love the skylights on the top floor, that allow the sun to flow through whilst immersing yourself in your favourite book. The bathtub exudes luxury for soaking in after a day of strolling the streets and be sure to check out the balcony, admiring the sunset over the azure sea.

To work up an appetite, roam Belle Époque promenades of the city's three beaches – stop to sip a glass of local sparkling txakoli wine, before looking out for the Euskal Dantza (the local dance). Although it has the second-most Michelin-starred restaurants to tempt your taste buds, you must experience The Basques' unique way of dining – walking from bar to bar and enjoying bite-size pieces of culinary art. Stroll through the maze of narrow cobblestone streets in Old Town, filled with excellent pintxo bars and historic architecture to have fulfilled your day of exploring.


Finding Joy

In the centre of the seaside town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, this duplex loft apartment is bright and breezy, just like the town. A four-minute walk sees you at the Grande Plage, the town’s horseshoe of golden sand lined with loungers and a calm spot for swimming. Here you’ll find local restaurants serving up the seafood-rich basque cuisine. Closer to home, the classic indoor market of Les Halles de Saint-Jean-de-Luz is less than a minute from the apartment, where you can stock up on fresh, local produce to take back to the full kitchen. Sleek, modern cabinets in dove grey hide myriad appliances to whip up a family meal, enjoyed at the stylish dining table set for six. The open living, dining room and kitchen is made bright by sliding glass doors that open up to a Juliet-style balcony, looking out over the city’s rooftops. A motif of white and blue throughout is a reminder that the sea is just beyond your street and skylights in the bedrooms flood the place with natural light. 

The Seashore

Nestled into the banks of the Urumea River, right before it flows into the Cantabrian Sea, sits a home so sleek you won’t know if you’re staying in a luxurious hotel or a cosy home. Pairing a gentle colour palette with contemporary takes on mid-century designs, this home oozes peaceful serenity in the centre of town.  Maitenminduta, which means to be in love, is perfectly located to experience all that the city has to offer. Head into the bay of La Concha for an early morning swim or walk just a short way to the Old Town at the tip of the Peninsula for a culinary experience you won’t soon forget. Bustling with bars and restaurants, you’ll want to take on the Old Town with a great appetite. Famous for its pintxos, these small snacks go brilliantly with any of the local beers, wines and ciders. When night falls, we recommend going for a pintxos crawl, hopping from one bar to the next until you’re so full you don’t think you can make it home. Except, of course, your home is just a short walk from all of this. 

Maiteminduta

A stone's throw from the charming Plaza de Gipuzkoa, one of the most iconic spots in the city, this stylish apartment offers modern 21st-century living within a classic building. 

Your host employed a team of designers to oversee its recent renovation. Inspired by mid-century design principles, they succeeded in creating a space that manages to be simultaneously contemporary and timeless. 

Organic shapes, geometric patterns and bright pops of colour add visual flair to the period bones of the building, with original features such as elegant arched windows that overhang the street below adding some charming eccentricity.

Step outside and you'll find yourself right in the thick of the action, just 100m from San Sebastian's bustling Old Town and the beautiful beachside Paseo de La Concha. It's an ideal location for anyone looking to discover the city's history and make the most of its renowned culinary scene. In fact, it's barely 500m to the nearest Michelin-starred establishment, with plenty of local bars serving sumptuous pintxos closer by.
