When your mind wanders to sunnier climes, daydreaming about an escape to France, this is the kind of place you’ll find yourself imagining. This stunning villa has it all – a picturesque stone facade, rolling countryside views, and every comfort and luxury you could hope for. 

It’s in the heart of the Perigord countryside, with plenty to discover along the Dordogne. A day trip to the famous medieval town of Sarlat-la-Canéda is a must, with its gorgeous architecture and incredible food markets. Rent bikes from your host and explore the rich and verdant countryside surrounding the villa, taking picnics of local cheese and fresh bread to enjoy along the way. 

Of course, you may find that you’re entirely content to stay put most of the time – there’s enough to enjoy at the villa, after all. Wake up early and enjoy a quiet moment in the garden, sipping your coffee as the early-morning sun warms you. After a breakfast of fresh fruit and pastries, lie in the sun beside the pool, occasionally dipping a toe in to test the temperature. Swim beneath a cloudless blue sky, and play with the little ones on the lawn. This is an idyllic home, where rest and relaxation are the focus. 

In the evening, sip cocktails on the terrace as the sun begins to set. Let a private chef do the hard work in the kitchen, and settle in for a fabulous alfresco feast. Is there anything better than dining under the stars on a warm summer’s night?  


Stone Amid Hills

Originally built as an old farmhouse, this beautiful home combines rustic charm with a light colour palette to create a space that feels both cosy and light, and certainly inviting enough for you to relax in. 

We can imagine lazy starts followed by freshly-brewed coffee at the dining table, right next to the statement fireplace. Unfortunately not in working order anymore, the design of the old hearth is still a beautiful focal point to the dining space. Scramble eggs in the minimal kitchen to enjoy alongside fresh croissants, cheese, and caffeine before getting ready for a day of exploration. 

Venture to Cadran Solaire – only minutes away by car – where you can hike the trails and explore the native foliage. In Nérac, about fifteen minutes away, you’ll find the night market and open-air cinema, but it’s also a great place to grab a bite to eat during the day. 

On those days where you find your itinerary completely clear, you’ll delight in the peace on offer at this home. Open the curved doors of the living room and read on the sofa, or head outside where you can walk the grounds until you find the perfect spot for an impromptu picnic. Enjoy sunset drinks on the terrace, barbecued dinners, and collapse onto the lawn every now and again for late-night stargazing.

Rustic on Green

Situated in the southern Dordogne countryside, this villa, comprising a main house and a separate cottage, is ​​perfect for multigenerational family reunions and large friendly get-togethers. There’s plenty to keep the group entertained here, from a games room complete with a home cinema and bar to 15 acres of rolling meadows with a swimming pool and a boules court. Cook up a storm with seasonal produce picked from the vegetable garden, or why not sample the restaurants in Bergerac? A twenty-minute drive away.

A Song of Light

This romantic farmhouse is the French getaway of your dreams, located in the staggeringly beautiful Dordogne valley. Surrounded by lavender and rosemary-filled gardens, and the undulating countryside beyond, you can sink into a state of deep relaxation from the moment you arrive. 

The 16th-century home was renovated in 2016 by interior designer Joris van Grinsven, who respected the charming original features while modernising it for 20th-century travellers. Expect thick stone walls, terracotta floors and wood-beamed ceilings alongside a high-spec kitchen, luxurious seating and a flat-screen TV. Sounds like the best of both worlds to us. 

From the windows in the plush upstairs bedrooms, keep an eye out for deer, birds of prey and wild boars roaming the landscape. You'll likely want to spend most of your time in the peaceful outdoor space, which has a private heated pool, pétanque court and plentiful loungers where you can sit and sip cocktails with the sun overhead.

La Figue

This fully restored castle in the Dordogne manages to merge the modern with the ancient. The stone foundations may date back as early as the 5th-century, but the interior is dotted with modern art and all the little luxuries of modern life. There's over 15 hectares of land to explore, with a swimming pool, terraces, and a barbecue area for al fresco dining. The castle backs on to the vineyards of Bergerac, so you're never too far from a glass of locally produced wine. Should the weather turn, the games room with a billiards table and library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves provide quality indoor entertainment.

Old World Meets New

Formerly a nineteenth-century farm, this enchanting renovated hamlet gives you a glimpse of the past while providing the setup for modern and luxurious countryside living. It's perfect for everyone, whether you're hoping to experience long summer days by the pool followed by a moonlit banquet, a roman bath followed by a massage, or simply curling up with a good book by the fire.

With three buildings to choose from, a spa and a pool house, you'll feel right at home in this little private village. Gather in the field for an outdoor yoga session, go for a game of petanque on the green, take a hot bath in the tub overlooking the gardens or throw a barbecue for everyone. The possibilities are endless and your days will be anything but mundane.

Looking to explore further afield? You'll be surrounded by the quaint and picturesque French villages of the region of Aveyron – traditional stone houses, regional markets packed with vibrant local delicacies, vineyards covering the province and outdoor activities surrounded by nature. It's a feast for the senses and you'll be more than satiated.

The Village over the Road

Nestled on the edge of the Causses National Park, this family-friendly villa in the Midi-Pyrenees offers a great base for families looking to explore nearby Dordogne, Cele and Lot river valleys. Active seekers will love going hiking, caving, horseback riding and paddling. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into making this home kid friendly - the billiards room, toys and games are bound to keep little ones entertained for hours on end. But there’s plenty to keep adults happy, too. We’re particular fans of the charming wine cellar and the two rustic dining rooms that combine to make entertaining in this home a pleasure. 

Maison Cohors

Straight out of a belle époque style painting is this large chateau not far from Toulouse and big enough for the entire extended family. With views of the neighbouring vineyards from the home’s balconies, you will feel truly immersed in the grape harvest at the right time of year. Eat breakfast on the veranda while the kids float in the pool and enjoy days walking in the heart of wine country. Cycle into to nearby Gaillac for fresh cheese to enjoy with wine on the terrace and various herbs collected from the garden. The wildlife you can spot on the property was a highlight for us. Keep your eyes peeled for roe deer in the morning and listen for nightingales to sing you to sleep.

Belle Nightingales

Nestled in the countryside near the medieval bastide of Najac, this traditional farmhouse invites guests to experience an authentic taste of the Dordogne. While the classic interiors and historic stone façade offer old French charm, extras like a private swimming pool and elevated deck overlooking the surrounding landscape make this home stand out. This is an idyllic spot for those seeking seclusion and tranquillity in a beautiful location – you'll be just 6 kilometres away from Najac with its quality eateries and picturesque surroundings.


The Rosemary

This quintessentially French chateau is simply breathtaking. It’s a twin tower house that could easily be mistaken for a fairy-tale castle at first glance, and it offers stunning views of the surrounding sunflower fields, which create a magical yellow carpet when they come out to bloom. You’ll also be amazed at the beautiful outdoor pool and pool house – both provide the perfect backdrop for summertime family fun. You’re sure to make many happy memories at this home, which boasts plenty of room for every guest to stretch out and relax.

Start each day with a refreshing dip in your outdoor pool while you watch the sun come up over the yellow fields. Enjoy lounging in the shaded area that offers views of the water, while you sip on a coffee and plan out the rest of your day. Cook up a French breakfast of boudin noir and scrambled eggs, and eat together around the majestic dining table. Head into the pool house to play ping pong, and pour some cocktails in the summer kitchen. 

If you want to venture out, Castillonnes is a short drive away, where you'll find a lively market, as well as lovely restaurants and sights to see. Or, just go on a walk around the gorgeous grounds – the sunflowers offer up some amazing photo opportunities. When the evening rolls in, pop the champagne and fire up the barbecue for a night of alfresco fun, or head into the drawing room to sit by the fireplace with a good book. 


Sunflower Fields Forever

This once mid-19th-century manor house now functions as a peaceful escape for large groups after being lovingly restored. With some of the historic charm still intact, the chateau has some of the rustic features you'd identify in an older home, and though that style might not suit everyone, you can't deny there's character, comfort and space in spades. Given the sloped ceiling, the bedroom with the four single beds would be best suited to kids, whilst another double room with an adjacent kid's bed is perfect for little ones not brave enough to venture out on their own yet. The garden is picture-perfect for alfresco dining, especially after sourcing produce at the weekly market in Carmaux. 

The Chateau in the Meadow

In a picturesque rural setting, set on thirty acres of flower-filled grounds shared with just one other maison, this romantic home beckons. While away the days in your private pool with the southern French sun on your skin, or chill out indoors surrounded by charming original features.

With wood-beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls, this home is the epitome of country chic – especially when you consider its contemporary furnishings. The owners have balanced out the rustic decor with sleek lighting, modern wall art and an industrial-style kitchen. Here, keen cooks will find everything they need to prepare a delicious meal with fresh local produce (your host will happily help you fill the fridge). Enjoy your creation al fresco with the sounds of nature for company.

While you're in the area, why not treat yourself to a tour of local vineyards? This region is home to some of the country's finest wineries, after all. Cahors on the River Lot is just half an hour away – saunter through the manicured gardens and take home a bottle of the town's famously rich red wine.
