Brightly lit, the shiny floors of the living room sparkle in hot summer sun, and the open concept living space leads to a pocket of bliss out on the sea-facing terrace. Benefitting from light wooden furnishings, there’s a welcoming and soothing ambience to the home. Teal ornaments and nautical paintings nod to the sea, though we don’t think you’ll need reminding – grab your morning coffee (or something a little stronger) and watch the boats float in and out of the Fréjus harbour from a front row seat. With the ocean calling in the backdrop, you’re a quick walk from the sandy beach and salty surf. If you’re a history buff, the city’s ancient Roman amphitheater and aqueduct will transport you into the past of this bustling port. Prepare to be wowed by this extraordinary villa in the Esterel National Park on the French Riviera. Constructed in 1904 for Lord Amherst, it retains an air of aristocracy, as seen with the grand staircase, antique furnishings and the chandeliers in almost every single room. On sunny days, what could be more civilised than afternoon tea out in the courtyard complete with loggia running around and a fountain in the middle?

However, you'll probably be happy to hear that some additions have been made in the hundred or so years since. The huge heated swimming pool is one such example, as is the gym, cinema room and billiards table inside.

Lots of people have been so charmed by the address that they've held weddings or large parties here, and you can do the same if you so wish. Alternatively, you can arrange art classes, wine-tasting or sporting events through the host, or see more of the area with a chauffeur or private yacht.

There's no shortage of places to visit around here. The medieval village of Fréjus with its Roman amphitheatre is only five minutes' drive away, as is the seaside town of St. Raphael. There are plenty of walking routes and scenic points to discover in the surrounding countryside, but Cannes is only forty minutes away in the car if you prefer to idle about aimlessly.

This deluxe villa overlooks the Cote d’Azure’s shimmering coastline. There are sea views from every corner of the vast terrace – perfect for sundowners and meals outside. With five bedrooms over three floors, there’s plenty of space for all, and the separate apartment on the lower ground floor makes it ideal for multi-generational families. What’s more, there’s free access to local tennis courts, not to mention a bi-weekly market and great boulangerie in the village. Factor in the stunning beaches and idyllic Provencal villages within a twenty-minute drive (Nice airport is just thirty minutes by car too), and you’ll see why countryside bliss and Cote d’Azur glamour go hand in hand here.

There's plenty of peace and quiet here, so we think you'll want a car for trips to Saint-Tropez, Nice, and Cannes.

If the illustrious history doesn't grab your attention, the sea views absolutely will. The interior is decidedly contemporary, with its open-plan living area and funky suspended fireplace. You'll also have access to a secluded beach down the rocky path. If you want to escape the crowds though, this place is just what the doctor ordered, nestled in the heart of the Provençal hills and boasting a tiered garden with lots of outdoor seating for unwinding or dining alfresco.

Sitting in the centre of Saint-Tropez, this brutalist home has a truly enviable location, but we think its charms extend beyond where it sits on the map.

Only built in 2021, the interior is fresh and contemporary, and saved from the anonymity of over-ubiquitous minimalist design by the boldly patterned tiling underfoot, some eye-catching metallic light fixtures and the black-and-white artwork dotted across the walls. We've got kind words for the modern kitchen, which is all clean lines and sleek surfaces, as well as the terraces – not only is there a space on the ground level to dine in the open air, but the upper-floor balcony is fabulous for sunset-watching.

You'll find it remarkably easy to embrace the Provençal lifestyle here. The twice-weekly market at Place des Lices is just around the corner and there are beaches you can reach on foot, too. When the sky starts turning dusky, there's a wealth of bars and restaurants in the surrounding streets at which to pass your evening hours.

This modern apartment is in the heart of Antibes, just a short walk from the Picasso Museum and Port Vauban. You’ll be perfectly located for exploring the French Riviera, and will have a comfortable space to call home when you’re not out and about. The apartment is ideal for couples and solo travellers, equipped with everything you might need for a short break. The light-filled living space leads to the kitchen, where you can whip up dishes – though you’ll have plenty of restaurants to choose from nearby if you want to sample the local cuisine.

If we could give a home a pass based on location alone, this address would undoubtedly get one. Not only does it sit within the Verdon National Park and a five-minute drive from the truffle markets of Aups, but it has a prime view of the mountain peaks of Massif des Maures.

Thankfully, the villa has a lot more riding in its favour other than this wonderful position. For starters, it really spoils guests when it comes to outdoor space. As well as a pair of terraces from which to admire the scenery, there's a huge garden complete with a petanque court, playground and a fountain to enjoy. Best of all, there's a swimming pool that offers a refreshing spot in which to relax during baking hot afternoons.

Once a sheepfold in a former life, the home itself is imbued with rustic charm, filled as it is with wooden ceiling beams, terracotta tiles and handsome antique furnishings. The main bathroom was once an old pigeon house – not something you get to write all that often – but today it's the very vision of relaxation with its cast iron bathtub.

When you're in the mood to see more of this beautiful landscape, there are ample walking routes in the surrounding national park, as well as opportunities for everything from climbing, paragliding, canoeing, rafting and horseback riding. The shores of Lake of Sainte-Croix are only a short drive away if you fancy pootling about in a boat or splashing about in the invitingly blue waters.
