Best for walking, rest, and relaxation, the villa has got its own private swimming pool. Cool off on hot summer days, before bagging your space on one of the loungers. Inside, Provincial charm meets modern style, from the grey sofas with poppy cushions to the pencil-drawn prints on walls. Bedrooms each have their own shower for washing swimming pool water off quickly, before heading back out and lighting up the BBQ for feasting alfresco.

You'll be smitten as soon as you see this home's garden. Inside is a bit more modern – albeit a little less exciting – but families will have a decent amount of space to spread out and relax. There's a trundle bed in the third bedroom, which we think is best suited to little ones, while the separate study in the mezzanine is ideal for business travellers. On your doorstep is Saint-Saturnin-Lès-Apt, a typical Provençal village with buckets of character. Villars and Apt are further afield.

The area is known for its ochre quarries and striking red cliffs, and this can best be appreciated with a visit to Roussillon – named one of France’s most beautiful villages – which is just a mere four kilometres away. The home blends into the landscape with its terracotta roof, pale stone walls and garden with blossoming flowers and lush greenery, perfect for alfresco dining on the terrace as the sun peers through the surrounding trees. Spend lazy afternoons by the glistening pool, and if the sun gets to be too much, the veranda shaded by a canopy of branches is a great spot for a cool glass of rosé. Sitting in the middle of a thirteen-hectare plot, this lovingly restored farmhouse is the ideal option for living the full Provençal fantasy.

Behind the ancient stone walls, you'll find a tasteful mixture of period features, like the fireplace, window shutters and ceiling beams, and more modern additions — case in point, the elegant bathtubs and contemporary kitchen. One of our favourite spaces is the cellar that has been converted into an apéro bar complete with a foosball table.

When the weather's warm and bright — not too rare an occurrence in this part of the world — there are plenty of ways to make the most of this. In the garden, you'll find a swimming pool and plenty of loungers that look out over the French countryside, but there are equally wonderful views from the two stone terraces.

The surrounding region of Luberon is both beautiful and peaceful, something that's easy to discover for yourselves with the amount of hiking and cycling routes that start from the grounds. The village of Saignon is a five-minute drive away too and offers a boulangerie, art gallery and a twelfth-century church.

This beautiful village house is the perfect place to enjoy a holiday in the Luberon region of Provence. The property is located on a hillside on the edge of Gordes, one of France's classified 'Plus Beaux Villages'. The Provençal valley views from the terraced grounds are incredible.

The house has been decorated with refined style and there's an authentic ambience across its elegant lounge, dining room and perfectly equipped kitchen with doors sliding open to the al-fresco dining terrace. Modern additions include air-conditioning throughout, a Sonos music system and Smart TVs in its mezzanine lounge and two of the three bedrooms.

Sleeping up to six guests, the bedrooms are gorgeous, one with a king-size double bed, wood-beamed ceiling and romantic rolltop bath, another with a queen-size double, sofa and en suite shower room and the third en suite with twin beds and lovely views through its little windows. 

Outside, the vistas of Provence will take your breath away whether you are enjoying a glass of Luberon AOC wine on the upper terrace or peacefully reading on the outdoor sofa beneath the poolside pergola. The swimming pool is superb for warm summer days when you don't wish to venture too far. We love the rustic charm of the terraced grounds with old stone steps, pretty pathways and swathes of summer colour.

Stone-built and practically glowing in the southern France sunshine, this home is ideal for cyclists and hikers. Smell the lavender and feel the sun on your skin as you wander around the quintessentially Mediterranean gardens with a view overlooking the valley of the Luberon park and the Mourre Nègre. Down the cobbled stone steps, you'll find a hidden terrace that features a heated infinity swimming pool, lounge terrace and breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape. 

Inside, the traditional country style 17th-century maison features seven large bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom making it an ideal spot for large families or groups of friends. As well as a pair of terraces from which to admire the scenery, there's a huge garden complete with a petanque court, playground and a fountain to enjoy. Best of all, there's a swimming pool that offers a refreshing spot in which to relax during baking hot afternoons.

Once a sheepfold in a former life, the home itself is imbued with rustic charm, filled as it is with wooden ceiling beams, terracotta tiles and handsome antique furnishings. The main bathroom was once an old pigeon house – not something you get to write all that often – but today it's the very vision of relaxation with its cast iron bathtub.

When you're in the mood to see more of this beautiful landscape, there are ample walking routes in the surrounding national park, as well as opportunities for everything from climbing, paragliding, canoeing, rafting and horseback riding. The shores of Lake of Sainte-Croix are only a short drive away if you fancy pootling about in a boat or splashing about in the invitingly blue waters.

Your home’s idyllic location in Vogüé, undeniably one of the most beautiful medieval villages in France, means you’re within metres of both the Château, and the Ardèche river. Walk from Saint Cerice Chapel, a Roman church built into the rock and overlooking the village, along a footbath to the Château before heading down to the riverside beach to sunbathe and swim. Alternatively, hire canoes or get on your bike and set off on the Via Ardèche, a straight 25 km cycle path from Vogüé to Grospierres. Whatever you do, don’t forget to indulge in some local food and wine and live life as it were a beautiful dream.

If you're looking for a French villa with true character, Here Comes The Sun is a great option. With typical rustic features that include exposed brick and beam contrasting the modern features, this home is a great place to help you relax and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings. Wake up with a nice cup of coffee on the balcony, then pick up your local delivery of baked goods that can be brought right to your front door, then set up a little breakfast for the rest. If you're feeling rather adventurous, hike all the way to Pont du Gard or take the car if you want see as much as you can in a single day. When you're back, go for a relaxing swim in the pool and enjoy a nice glass of locally produced wine, then maybe visit the nearby town of Uzès and explore the local restaurants. The wider area is filled with stunning gold courses and plenty of activities, but there's absolutely no rule that says you can't just stay in your superbly cosy holiday residence and curl up with a good book.
