The best spot to appreciate this is from the living room that benefits from three curved Georgian windows, but Brighton Pier can also be spotted from two of the bedrooms, too. As well as making this home a great vantage point for catching the city's famous starling murmurations, it also brings in copious amounts of natural light, which dances satisfyingly off the wooden floor and cleansingly white walls. Renovated in 2020, the interior feels thoroughly modern, but the choice of classic furnishings, including the antique dining table, pays homage to Brighton's long and regal history. It's also easy to get a flavour of the city's heritage from the fabulous location in the Kemptown neighbourhood. This home is an Art Deco themed showstopper that would delight any aspiring flapper. With bespoke 1920's themed furniture and original retro features, a stay here is like stepping back in time to the Jazz Age. We especially love the mirrored cocktail bar, worthy of any speakeasy, and the impressive home cinema with its red bucket chairs and huge TV hidden behind a theatrical curtain. The kitchen is a retro daydream with its restored English Rose units and the bedrooms continue the Art Nouveau theme to the letter (the dressing table in the master bedroom is just like something your grandmother would’ve had). What takes this flat from gimmick to somewhere truly special though is its history as the former home of playwright Sir Terrance Rattigan who wrote many famous works set in the roaring 20s. For a slightly more sedate pace, a visit to the Royal Pavilion is a fascinating way to while away a few hours. Children – and big kids – can let off steam in Preston Park, admiring the gardens.

Lofty high ceilings, polished concrete flooring (the underfloor heating keeps things toasty), and sleek architectural glazing make quite the first impression. If you love outdoor living, then you've come to the right place, because this spacious home revolves around a huge garden. It’s a great place for kids to play while the grown-ups catch up on the outdoor sofas, glass of wine in hand. You'll also find an outdoor dining area and barbecue, so freshly grilled food should definitely be on the menu. If that weren’t enough already, there are also vegetable patches, and you’re free to harvest whatever’s growing. Although this three-storey home was only built in recent years, much of the interior design takes inspiration from retro trends. Many of the furnishings are mid-century in style and there are 1970s flourishes peppered about in the form of overhanging metallic lamps and swirly feature walls in the living rooms. That being said, the pristine white kitchen is as modern as they come, as are the bathrooms. Outside, guests get the benefit of not one, but two terraces, with space to cook, eat and relax. The location gives plenty of options for excursions in the great outdoors, too. It's possible to get on a footpath running alongside the River Adur in less than a minute on foot which is a great base for kayaking and paddleboarding, and leads to a 37-mile long track through the South Downs National Park. Shoreham Beach is a mere ten-minute walk via the high street which boasts an abundance of pubs, restaurants and shops, and the Brighton seaside only takes twenty-three minutes to reach in the car.

Step into the main house and socialise as you prep meals in the kitchen before stepping out onto the spacious patio, where you'll find a barbecue ideal for cooking outdoor feasts over the summer months. Out back, you'll find a covered seating area with enough space for everyone, plus three space heaters for those chilly evenings when the breeze rolls in off the sea. Of course, if the weather's not playing ball, there's always the projector and surround sound system in the living room for immersive movie nights.

Away from your semi-secluded haven, the shingle beach at Saltdean offers you a chance to paddleboard or take a dip in the Grade II-listed art deco lido. Then, continue west along the coast, and you'll find yourself in the vibrant seaside town of Brighton in under half an hour. However, if you prefer to use your breaks as a chance to disconnect, the national park on your doorstep offers over 2,000 miles of rights of way so you can enjoy some quiet reflection as you hike through the hills.

Step inside this stunning home, and you'll be greeted by a sophisticated coastal townhouse packed with period features. On the ground floor, the living and dining rooms feature original wood floors, ornamental fireplaces and a sizeable southeast-facing bay window that makes the most of that early morning light. Finally, there's a sleek, contemporary kitchen out the back, with direct access to the patio and a staircase up to a private hilltop garden. Up the stairs, the first floor consists of two individually decorated bedrooms, each with its own character and a shower room shared between them. Step out, and you're a short walk from Preston Park station for trains into the city centre, otherwise, you can walk it in a little over thirty minutes.

In the peaceful village of Westmeston, this home is spread across a semi-detached cottage as well as a single-story studio space. In the main cottage, you'll find a larger space with a dining area, kitchen and living room for all guests to come together. Meanwhile, the studio features another open living space with its own independent amenities. The two garden areas are each equipped with outdoor seating and hot tubs. However, with underfloor heating across the home, it is equally as inviting here during the colder months. Plus, you'll be just steps away from footpaths leading directly to The South Downs National Park and two local pubs. 




The Greenshaw

This pretty holiday home sits in the centre of Westmeston, a village at the foot of the South Downs. It’s a great spot for walkers as the footpath directly outside leads straight to the Downs, and there are plenty of other local walks to enjoy. Beach-lovers need only drive thirty minutes to reach the south coast. The house itself retains much of its Victorian charm, having been lovingly restored. We love the garden and the cosy wood burner for chillier evenings.

The heart and soul of Brighton are on your doorstep with a stay at this ultra-cool apartment set right amongst it in the city's beloved North Laines and just a ten-minute stroll from the beach.

You could easily while away the whole day and night diving into the North Laine's buzzing hub of independent artists, curiosity shops, and happening cafes and restaurants. But don't forget the city's other must-sees, starting at the eye-popping spectacle of The Royal Pavilion (seven minutes on foot). And there's always the kiss-me-quick pier (thirteen minutes on foot) for a spin and obligatory fish and chips – preferably in that order. 

When it's time to take five, you'll find an immaculately presented apartment awaiting. The care that your host, Helen, puts into the interior design of this home is impressive – that bespoke kitchen is a case in point. While over in the bedroom, one big hug of a king-sized bed awaits, along with a freestanding bathtub with room for two. And despite its central location, it feels surprisingly quiet here. So draw the blackout blinds and bag yourself a lie-in – in this famously hedonistic city, you might need it.

How can you be steps away from Brighton's buzzing North Laine and yet feel tucked away in peace at the same time? This gem is in a truly enviable position – off the road and down what's called a 'twitten'. The path leads to your Regency period home, recently refurbished and raring to go.

Perfect for a group of friends or family on a trip to the Great British Seaside, some of the home's original features are there for the lovers of character, while the whole house has been modernised and decorated in contemporary white – pops of colour coming from the dramatic wall art. With three main bedrooms, there's plenty of room to sleep six, with the sofa bed in the snug adding the possibility of another two guests.

After a day exploring Brighton's excellent shopping, paddling on the beach and playing on the pier, it's central enough for you to nip back home to freshen up before dinner – you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out and nightlife nearby.
