A ten-minute drive will take you to the A30, which runs right down the centre of Cornwall, meaning many picturesque beaches and harbour towns are all within a day trip's reach. The River Camel runs through the valley and is accessible to guests who can also fish on the private land here.

Although there are extensive grounds to roam, the home also offers its own enclosed patio for visitors to enjoy – perfect for an alfresco lunch or sunset glass of wine. Once part of the Lanhydrock Estate, this recently converted barn sports a contemporary look and plenty of modern comforts without losing any of its traditional charm. Original timber beams and exposed stone walls hark back to the barn's heyday, but the electric car charging point, rainfall shower and Sonos speakers are just a few of the 21st-century updates. This is the perfect spot for a family to unwind in the Cornish countryside. While parents rustle up a meal in the kitchen, kids can hang out in their own room, playing on the Xbox One. On summer evenings, everyone will enjoy a barbecue in the courtyard before retreating inside to the cosy living area for a movie night, but when the weather turns nippy, cuddle up by the log burner instead. There's plenty to get up to in the local area, too. You're almost equidistant from both the North and South coasts of Cornwall. Spend a day at the beach in Padstow or visit historic Charlestown, both of which are less than a forty-minute drive away. For those who enjoy long country ambles, Cardinham Woods is just five miles away and offers plenty of walking and cycling trails. Wadebridge town centre is about a twenty-minute walk (or a five-minute drive) away and home to an array of eateries, bars, coffee shops and boutiques to pass the time in. And there's plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy, be it cycling along the Camel Trail, roaming Cornwall’s famous coast or lounging on the sand at Rock Beach, just twenty minutes by car.

It's fair to say that this Cornish farmhouse and piggery has undergone quite the transformation. Inside, guests will find a pleasing mix of wooden floorboards, grey tiling and the odd burst of refreshing blue on the walls. There are nods to the buildings' former purpose in the shape of the gleaming white Aga in the kitchen and the log-burner in the living room, but otherwise, it's a thoroughly modern affair. Outside, there's a Scandi-style, wood-fired hot tub to see you through the evenings, as well as a barbecue and plenty of outdoor seating on which to lounge back and enjoy the silence that abounds in this corner of England. Although the home's location feels secluded, there's plenty to keep you occupied during your stay — both the town of Padstow and the Eden Project take only twenty-five minutes to reach in the car.

This cosy Cornish cottage is an exemplary example of boutique living. There are all sorts of quirky additions to the interior that lend a sense of personality, from the record player and acoustic guitar to the book collection with plenty of local guides. The welcome gift of Cornish wine and produce is also a lovely touch.

That being said, all the essentials are nailed, too. In the living room, the wood-burning stove will really come into its own during colder evenings, as will the pretty freestanding tub in the bathroom. The long turquoise kitchen is plenty big enough for whipping up hearty suppers after a long day of exploring Cornwall's great outdoors.

If you're into your rambling, Bodmin Moor starts just over five minutes' drive from your front door, with stone circles and tors to punctuate your walking. Both Fistral and Polzeath Beaches take around forty minutes to reach in the car. If, however, you want to see the local area on two wheels, the home comes with a pair of bicycles that guests are more than welcome to borrow and the Camel Trail lies two minutes' pedal from the front door.

Beach-wise, the picturesque Cornish coast is about twenty minutes by car, so head to Port Issac, Padstow or Polzeath for a day by the sea.

Look elsewhere, and you’ll uncover thoughtful touches like freshly-cut flowers and a welcome hamper filled with goodies in the shaker-style kitchen to make your stay unique. While over in the restful bedrooms, each with en-suites, you can tell an interior designer has been working their magic with modern floral textiles nailing the British eccentric style. Formerly a listed Manor House, Courthouse, and Mill, the building is filled with a sense of history as well as its own unique character and sense of place. Lounge in the luxurious living spaces or enjoy a special meal together with your loved ones in the grand dining room that's flooded with that inimitable Cornish coastal light. The fantastically well-equipped kitchen means there has never been a better time to dust off the old chef's apron and put your culinary skills to the test. Settle into your own slice of rural Cornwall at this idyllic barn conversion on Trelarnett Farm. Set on the side of the River Camel valley, it offers plenty of sunshine and fishing opportunities to boot. It’s equally suitable for winter hibernation, too – the wood-burning fireplace, sink-in sofas and underfloor heating keep everything toasty on cold nights. 

Check out the surrounding villages for friendly gastropubs if you’re not in the mood to cook, though the kitchen comes fully equipped for delicious family-favourite meals. Build up an appetite with a yomp through the wilds of Bodmin Moor, jump on your bicycle and take to the Camel Trail right outside your doorstep or take the thirty-minute drive to Polzeath Beach for an afternoon spent frolicking on the expanse of golden sand.

Passing Afternoon

Ideally nestled into the east bank of the River Fowey, this lovely home offers plenty of space for up to eight guests in a tranquil setting. From inside the cottage, you can enjoy picturesque views of the river and the many estuary birds that visit during low tide. For four hours of either side of high tide, you can head out for some boating. 

Thanks to plenty of lawn equipment, the garden is ideal for dining alfresco and playing games. But that’s not all – the large, fully equipped kitchen offers a great setting for socialising, and with not one but two sitting rooms, there’s plenty of space for everyone to claim a corner for themselves when they want some time on their own. 

On colder nights, feel free to light the wood-burning stove and make yourself comfortable on the sumptuous sofas. Upstairs, two of the bedrooms are equipped with twin beds, making this home an excellent choice for a family.

Boconnoc is a little parish just a few miles outside of Lostwithiel, one of Cornwall's most sought-after rural villages. Staying here will give you the comfort of choosing whether you prefer the peace and quiet of the estate or the somewhat livelier compact village up the road where you can find a few brilliant gastropubs. Of course, nothing is stopping you from taking the car to other places like Fowey and the Eden Project as the whole of the peninsula is well-marked and the roads can easily take you quite far in under an hour. The cottage itself is a beautifully refurbished affair, draped in bold colours and furnished with comfortable furniture. You'll get plenty of light, access to the estate's tennis courts and games room, as well as the option of getting fresh seasonal produce delivered from the kitchen garden. If you're looking to really put your feet up and relax, the host can organise a private chef and regular in-house cleaning. 

Kindred Spirits

When browsing for holiday lets, one often has to sacrifice living space for proximity to attractions. Not with this three-bed, six-person apartment in the well-known Cornish fishing town of Padstow. Just a minute’s walk from the harbour, and Rick Stein’s world famous fish and chips, it also has generous living rooms, a large patio garden and ample parking. Other highlights include a spa bath, 65” smart TV with Bluetooth speakers and modern furniture which gives the whole space a fresh, clean feel. Take a short foot ferry across to Rock for great beaches and more great seafood restaurants - or bring the catch of the day home for home-cooking.

The Blue Sandpiper

Set on the side of a hill and overlooking the River Fowey as it meets the sea, this stunning home has views to die for. With a waterfront position, it looks out across the estuary from all the main rooms so you can watch the water from morning to night. In the little village of Polruan, you'll be just opposite the popular town of Fowey, known for its trendy shops and eateries. An unusual home, you enter from ground level to an immaculate and bright open-plan living room. Thanks to the slope, although it's ground level at the front of the house, you'll feel you've stepped into a top floor apartment when you see the views from the rear. With vaulted ceilings and skylights, the all-white space is modern and comfortable, with a smart kitchen, big dining table and cosy seating area. Patio doors open to a private deck – the perfect spot to sit back with a glass of wine and just take it all in. Downstairs you'll find all the bedrooms and bathrooms – three with river views – and outside you have access across the lawn to a small mooring on the waterfront. With a shop and a pub just a few steps away from the home, you could easily spend your days here, but it's just a quick car ferry ride from the quay across to Fowey, or follow the coastal path for a hike towards Lantic Bay beach.

Set out on the Hall Walk trail or take it easy and relax on Readymoney Cove Beach, less than a fifteen-minute saunter from your doorstep. 

When it’s time to call it a day, return to your abode for a glass of your favourite tipple and a well-deserved pamper session in the slipper bath tub.

This cosy barn-turned-cottage is a tranquil escape for couples looking to discover what gems dot the North Cornish coast. From here, it's a quick drive to Padstow, Port Isaac and Tintagel, their beaches and historical landmarks. Closer to home, scenic walks on Bodmin Moor or the Camel Trail might also call solo hikers to hunker down here. Though the rustic style might not be everyone's cup of tea, it's comfortable for two, and we feel the exposed beams and wood-burning stove add to the homeliness of the space. The picnic bench in the garden is a welcome addition for alfresco meals and sunset drinks.

A Long Time Ago

This characterful townhouse in the centre of Fowey is a lovely mishmash of exposed masonry, quirky wallpaper and coastal charm. But that's not the only reason we adore it – one look at the far-reaching views and you'll fall in love with it, too. Set over four levels, it's a bit of climb up to the fourth-floor lounge but trust us – it's worth every step. From up here, you've got a bird's eye view of the estuary, pretty Cornish coastline and the sparkling ocean, and the best spot to take it all in is the sunny roof terrace. Pour yourself a glass of wine (or a glass of juice for the little ones) and relish in the unforgettable sunsets, watching as the tide ebbs and flows. Then, when you've had your fill of the scenery (if that's even possible), make your way downstairs to the country-style kitchen for a family dinner before snuggling up in the sumptuous beds.

With its quaint boutiques and local eateries hiding all sorts of hidden treasures, there's plenty in Fowey to explore. Miles of idyllic coastline and countryside are ideal for walks, while harbourside cafes are the perfect spots to relax with a coffee before hiring a boat and setting off on an afternoon on the river. And, with an excellent pub next door, you won't even need to worry about cooking – sounds like heaven to us.

The nearby holiday destination of Lostwithiel is only four miles away and offers a few brilliant places to eat, but you'll also be staying quite near to the Eden Project and the seaside wonders of Fowey. While the outside of this cottage is pleasantly traditional, the insides are bold and stylish. There are plenty of vivid colours, soft forniture that you can melt into after a long day of exploring, and a lovely wood-burning stove. If you want to focus on relaxation, not household chores, you can get fresh seasonal produce delivered from the garden kitchen and even book a private chef to whip up something magical with them. The host also offers regular cleaning and a little bird told us that there will be a little Cornish present waiting for you on arrival.

Set in the vibrant Cornish sailing community of Fowey, alongside several Victorian buildings, this apartment is like something out of a fairytale. Designed to an incredibly high standard by your host, Alison, the interior feels very in keeping with the seaside locale without ever coming across as a cliche. There's not a deckchair stripe in sight. Instead, you're treated to sculptural driftwood lamps, moody seascape paintings, and a sophisticated palette of deep blues and grey tones that reflect the British weather more accurately than the usual sunshine yellow. If you can bear to leave the home, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest in the immediate vicinity. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. The local community is a healthy mix of all ages who are warm and friendly and adept at making newcomers feel welcome.

Do bucket-and-spade breaks in luxury at this family-friendly, Edwardian townhouse in Wadebridge. The careful planning of the interior design to meet guests’ needs and the meticulous sourcing of furnishings and fittings took nearly a year to complete, with the subsequent renovations completing towards the end of 2022.

Upstairs, each bedroom is as beautifully styled as the next, though the main en-suite bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and balcony trumps them all.
