Some homes are designed around a view and this is one of them. Perched close to the Cornish coastline, it's possible to gaze out at peaceful vistas of Swanpool lagoon or Falmouth Bay, depending on which of the floor-to-ceiling windows you're standing next to at any given moment. The best spot at the address, however, has to be the covered balcony, from which you can enjoy the coastal panorama with a sea breeze on your skin.

One added benefit of all this glass is the copious amount of natural light that it lets into the home and this asset is emphasised by the preference for stark white in the walls and the kitchen's sleek surfaces. Brimming with original artwork and oozing charm, this coastal cottage is a real knock-out. We love every inch, from the inviting living space to the sumptuous bedroom. It's snug, but that's what makes it so cosy, and for a small space, it sure is packed with personal touches. Egyptian cotton sheets, electric fireplace, fluffy bathrobes, beach essentials, a welcome basket overflowing with breakfast items – your host has all the little details taken care of. As much as we adore the lovely kitchen, our favourite spot has to be the rustic courtyard. Dotted with olive trees and surrounded by leafy potted plants, it's the perfect place for morning coffees, alfresco dinners and evening tipples as the sun goes down. As far as locations go, this home is close to everything – it's only a ten-minute walk to Gyllyngvase Beach and five minutes to the restaurants, shops and pubs along the waterfront. While there's private parking on-site, you won't need the car for much. Don your comfiest shoes and set off on foot instead, exploring Falmouth's coastal walks, art galleries and cafes with ease.

For a unique and unforgettable experience, stay in this operational lighthouse on the furthest point of Cornwall’s Roseland Peninsula. The sea views are second-to-none, whether that’s from the sunny patio or the detached observation room – complete with a fireplace for cosy storm watching. Seeing as this lighthouse is operational, expect to hear automatic fog signal on misty nights and see maintenance people from time to time. Other than that, the cottage is private with no public access. You’ll park in the National Trust car park – it’s a 300-metre steep path down to the cottage from there. Guests should also be aware that the home isn't suitable for children under 14, including babies. But there's a lot to love here. You even have easy access to a beautiful beach.

Most tourists make a beeline for the Cornish coast – but little do they know that this beloved landscape is home to another beautiful feature, the Fal River. The surroundings here are slightly different, where green pasture gives way to mixed woodland and small pebbled riverside beaches. This characterful, quintessentially Cornish cottage dates back to the 1800s and provides perfect panoramic views over these stunning vistas, with three separate outside seating areas to choose from. Watch the sailboats float by as you lie on the garden bed, or have breakfast on the terrace while waving to a passing paddle-boarder – the river is never far away, and you can even view the shimmering water from your double bed. Trelissick is just a twenty-minute drive away, and Swanpool Beach is a sandy cove half an hour away, beside Swanpool Nature Reserve. Just over a mile from the village of Stithians, down by the River Kennall, this stone cottage is set in the 7-acre land surrounding an old farmhouse. But despite its incredibly rural setting, staying here is far from the rustic experience you might expect. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Upon arrival, your host will warmly welcome you with a hamper full of luxury Cornish fare and home-baked goods to start your holiday right. While you nibble and sip, you can start exploring the cosy home. Fluffy rugs, plush sofas, and wooden floors create a sense of warmth and softness in the living space, but floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outside in. And the great outdoors are particularly great in this case. Under the wooden decking, get ready to pop champagne and soak in the hot tub. Or perhaps you’d rather recline on the outdoor sofas by the wood-burner, have a barbecue, or play a few rounds of table tennis? As you’re just a fifteen-minute drive to Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth, you’ll also need to pack a picnic one day and head for the shore (don’t forget to grab the beach towels that your host kindly provides).

There’s plenty to be explored in this area, from the tropical gardens of Trebah to the creeks and ocean; we’d recommend making the adventure by boat and luckily this cottage comes with its own all-tide mooring. This charming stone cottage offers delightful views of the river, quietly tucked away in a lush paradise but still close to the excellent Shipwrights Arms and ferry point. Inside the interior design blends seaside chic with rustic, farmhouse vibes. We love the ship paintings, sea-blue tones and wood finishings. This charming cottage still retains a lot of its original features, boasting a characterful stone hearth and wood-burning stove. The open-plan kitchen and living room feel particularly snug. Warm yourself beside the fire, play a card game or watch a movie.

Our preferred way to enjoy the vista is with a cup of tea in the garden as you watch the sailboats floating by below. The house is situated on a private footpath that leads you to the sea in a couple of minutes. If you're in the mood for an adventure, there are plenty of watersports options and boat rental that your helpful hosts can help you arrange. The village amenities of St Mawes harbour are within a few minutes on foot should you need to stock up on essentials. However, if you can tear yourself away from that view, you're just a twenty-minute ferry crossing from the vibrant university town of Falmouth. For a different atmosphere, you're a short drive from picturesque fishing villages like Portscatho and Portloe. After a day on the water or exploring the local area, return to a catered candlelit dinner looking out over the sea (available at an additional cost) before cosying up around the log-burning stove and curling up with a book and a glass of wine.

Speaking of exploring, you’re right in the centre of Truro with countless shops and restaurants on your doorstep, as well as some of the city’s most famous sights, including Truro Cathedral (a three-minute walk), the Royal Cornwall Museum (a five-minute walk) and Victoria Gardens (an eight-minute walk). Elsewhere, you’re just a twenty-minute drive from both sandy Perranporth Beach – the only UK beach to have a pub on it – and St Agnes, where you’ll find surf schools, local ale pubs and myriad independent boutiques.

Set in a large, secluded garden between St Mawes castle and the village harbour, Penolva comes from the Cornish word meaning ‘lookout on the headland’. It’s one of very few homes in the village with a private waterfront, and because of that, it has some of the best views around. It was built in the sixties by a friend of the Queen Mother, Dick Wilkins, and it’s reported that the Royal family used to visit Wilkins at the home while on excursions from HMY Brittania. That’s pretty good pedigree. The home has been done up recently, and now showcases a great selection of British art. The views, however, are framed by the windows in such a way that they might as well be the paintings. On top of that, host Amanda goes the extra mile to ensure that your stay is special. Fresh from an appearance in June 2021's issue of 25 Beautiful Homes magazine, this coastal Cornish home is more than ready to be the setting for a memorable holiday. Attention to detail can be seen in every corner of this home, with only natural products used for cleaning, and even the bed linens are made from 100% natural materials. The nautical-themed interior design is inescapably cosy, especially in the living room with the log-burning fireplace and a big bay window that looks out over Percuil River. If you want to see this gorgeous view a little closer, simply step outside onto the home's private terraces, which feature a swimming pool, loungers and a table for alfresco suppers - plus a private riverside beach. There's a ping-pong table and trampoline to keep youngsters entertained, but there's also an impressive four-monitor WFH set-up in case there are emails that can't wait. However, be sure to finish up as soon as possible, because there's so much to see and do in the local area, too. By request you can have someone take you out on the hosts' boat, moored at the home. Summers Beach is only four minutes' walk away, although there are plenty of other coastal destinations easily reachable in the car. The harbour town of St Mawes takes a few minutes to reach on foot and has delicatessens, restaurants and a castle waiting to be explored.

A Slice of Hevva Cake

This beautiful Grade II-listed Georgian Manor House in the heart of Cornwall is perfect for large gatherings and celebrations. Tucked away among thirty acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, there are plenty of woodland paths, ponds and rolling hills for adults and children alike to enjoy. Gyllyngvase Beach takes less than twenty minutes to reach in the car as well. Alternatively, you could use the large lawn at the front of the home for a friendly game of croquet or cricket. Inside, you’ll be blown away by the high ceilings, snug drawing rooms and period-inspired furnishings that will bring a touch of elegance to your holiday. However, there are so many ways to let loose here. The conservatory, for example, has a billiards table, disco ball and sound system, and there's also table tennis that can be set up in the rear hall or courtyard. On sunny days, the patio with its barbecue and alfresco dining area will naturally be the place to be, but there's also the option to slip away from the crowds for a dip in the outdoor hot tub, complete with candles and LED lighting.

In the centre of charming Truro, this apartment feels like a cosy ode to wool. Plush knitted throws adorn the sofa in the open-plan living room, and the bed is lined with fluffy sheepskin. Herringbone floor completes a classic look, and we love the seat in the big Georgian window (furnished with a sheepskin throw, of course) overlooking the street for a spot of people-watching. The kitchen has everything you need to cook full meals at home – perhaps courtesy of the fresh fish landed every day in the nearby harbour towns. And, if you want to dine outside, there’s a shared courtyard dappled with fairylights for the occasion.

Location-wise, you’re in the heart of town and can reach all of Truro easily on foot. Quaint cafés serving scones (jam first, of course) and cream teas, fresh seafood restaurants and plenty of shops await. Getting out to explore the area, you’ll find the Roseland Heritage Coast AONB a ten-minute drive for clifftop coastal walks, and the buzzing beach of Falmouth is a twenty-minute drive.

The cottage's location in the west of the county makes it impossible to stray far from either the north or south coast. Seasoned surfers and weekend warriors will appreciate the proximity to plenty of excellent surf spots, including Porthtowan, Gwithian, and Porthleven, all within half an hour's drive.
