Perched close to the Cornish coastline, it's possible to gaze out at peaceful vistas of Swanpool lagoon or Falmouth Bay, depending on which of the floor-to-ceiling windows you're standing next to at any given moment. The best spot at the address, however, has to be the covered balcony, from which you can enjoy the coastal panorama with a sea breeze on your skin.

Brimming with original artwork and oozing charm, this coastal cottage is a real knock-out. We love every inch, from the inviting living space to the sumptuous bedroom. It's snug, but that's what makes it so cosy, and for a small space, it sure is packed with personal touches. Egyptian cotton sheets, electric fireplace, fluffy bathrobes, beach essentials, a welcome basket overflowing with breakfast items – your host has all the little details taken care of. As much as we adore the lovely kitchen, our favourite spot has to be the rustic courtyard. Dotted with olive trees and surrounded by leafy potted plants, it's the perfect place for morning coffees, alfresco dinners and evening tipples as the sun goes down. As far as locations go, this home is close to everything – it's only a ten-minute walk to Gyllyngvase Beach and five minutes to the restaurants, shops and pubs along the waterfront. While there's private parking on-site, you won't need the car for much. Don your comfiest shoes and set off on foot instead, exploring Falmouth's coastal walks, art galleries and cafes with ease.

For a unique and unforgettable experience, stay in this operational lighthouse on the furthest point of Cornwall’s Roseland Peninsula. The sea views are second-to-none, whether that’s from the sunny patio or the detached observation room – complete with a fireplace for cosy storm watching. Seeing as this lighthouse is operational, expect to hear automatic fog signal on misty nights and see maintenance people from time to time. Other than that, the cottage is private with no public access. You’ll park in the National Trust car park – it’s a 300-metre steep path down to the cottage from there. Guests should also be aware that the home isn't suitable for children under 14, including babies. But there's a lot to love here. You even have easy access to a beautiful beach.

Most tourists make a beeline for the Cornish coast – but little do they know that this beloved landscape is home to another beautiful feature, the Fal River. The surroundings here are slightly different, where green pasture gives way to mixed woodland and small pebbled riverside beaches. However, there are so many ways to let loose here. The conservatory, for example, has a billiards table, disco ball and sound system, and there's also table tennis that can be set up in the rear hall or courtyard. Just over a mile from the village of Stithians, down by the River Kennall, this stone cottage is set in the 7-acre land surrounding an old farmhouse. But despite its incredibly rural setting, staying here is far from the rustic experience you might expect. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Upon arrival, your host will warmly welcome you with a hamper full of luxury Cornish fare and home-baked goods to start your holiday right. While you nibble and sip, you can start exploring the cosy home. Fluffy rugs, plush sofas, and wooden floors create a sense of warmth and softness in the living space, but floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outside in. And the great outdoors are particularly great in this case. Under the wooden decking, get ready to pop champagne and soak in the hot tub. The house is situated on a private footpath that leads you to the sea in a couple of minutes. If you're in the mood for an adventure, there are plenty of watersports options and boat rental that your helpful hosts can help you arrange. The village amenities of St Mawes harbour are within a few minutes on foot should you need to stock up on essentials. However, if you can tear yourself away from that view, you're just a twenty-minute ferry crossing from the vibrant university town of Falmouth. For a different atmosphere, you're a short drive from picturesque fishing villages like Portscatho and Portloe. After a day on the water or exploring the local area, return to a catered candlelit dinner looking out over the sea (available at an additional cost) before cosying up around the log-burning stove and curling up with a book and a glass of wine.

Attention to detail can be seen in every corner of this home, with only natural products used for cleaning, and even the bed linens are made from 100% natural materials. The nautical-themed interior design is inescapably cosy, especially in the living room with the log-burning fireplace and a big bay window that looks out over Percuil River. If you want to see this gorgeous view a little closer, simply step outside onto the home's private terraces, which feature a swimming pool, loungers and a table for alfresco suppers - plus a private riverside beach. There's a ping-pong table and trampoline to keep youngsters entertained, but there's also an impressive four-monitor WFH set-up in case there are emails that can't wait. However, be sure to finish up as soon as possible, because there's so much to see and do in the local area, too. By request you can have someone take you out on the hosts' boat, moored at the home. Summers Beach is only four minutes' walk away, although there are plenty of other coastal destinations easily reachable in the car. The harbour town of St Mawes takes a few minutes to reach on foot and has delicatessens, restaurants and a castle waiting to be explored.

Set in a large, secluded garden between St Mawes castle and the village harbour, Penolva comes from the Cornish word meaning ‘lookout on the headland’. It’s one of very few homes in the village with a private waterfront, and because of that, it has some of the best views around. It was built in the sixties by a friend of the Queen Mother, Dick Wilkins, and it’s reported that the Royal family used to visit Wilkins at the home while on excursions from HMY Brittania. That’s pretty good pedigree. The home has been done up recently, and now showcases a great selection of British art. The views, however, are framed by the windows in such a way that they might as well be the paintings. On top of that, host Amanda goes the extra mile to ensure that your stay is special. She’s thought of every possibility, from providing board games to keep you entertained on rainy days, to running a bespoke concierge service. Mosey through the cobbled streets and stop off for a glass of cider and a pasty in the traditional pub. For an even more intimate experience, dine alfresco on the open-air table back at the cottage.

If you're visiting during the colder months, the restful abode is the perfect place to snuggle up in the evening. In the centre of charming Truro, this apartment feels like a cosy ode to wool. Plush knitted throws adorn the sofa in the open-plan living room, and the bed is lined with fluffy sheepskin. Herringbone floor completes a classic look, and we love the seat in the big Georgian window (furnished with a sheepskin throw, of course) overlooking the street for a spot of people-watching. The kitchen has everything you need to cook full meals at home – perhaps courtesy of the fresh fish landed every day in the nearby harbour towns. And, if you want to dine outside, there’s a shared courtyard dappled with fairylights for the occasion.

Location-wise, you’re in the heart of town and can reach all of Truro easily on foot. Quaint cafés serving scones (jam first, of course) and cream teas, fresh seafood restaurants and plenty of shops await. Getting out to explore the area, you’ll find the Roseland Heritage Coast AONB a ten-minute drive for clifftop coastal walks, and the buzzing beach of Falmouth is a twenty-minute drive.

If you like the idea of going eco-friendly for a while but don't want to completely give up on comforts, this cosy barn powered by renewable energy could just be a happy compromise. 

The renovated cob and stone property sits within six acres of idyllic riverside woodland and is built out of natural materials, including oak, lime, cob, pigmented clay plaster and locally sourced slate. Inside, there are a few rustic features, such as the exposed stonework and wood-burning fireplace, but otherwise, it's undeniably contemporary thanks to the conservatory, sleek kitchen and pristine bathrooms. The fact that it's powered by a wind turbine and a heat pump is pretty impressive, too.

Given the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding grounds, you'll be happy to hear that there's a natural swimming pool close to the home — shared only with the host, who lives on the site, and one other barn — as well as a barbecue and some spots for an alfresco feast. 

Although it feels like you're in splendid isolation at this address, you can head back to civilisation pretty swiftly if you wish. The town of Truro takes a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, while Perranporth Beach on the north and south Cornish coastlines can be reached in just under twenty-five.

You could sneak in through the back at this apartment in a Regency manor, but that would take away from the grand entrance worthy of a Jane Austen heroine. Sashaying through the double doors and across the marble floor, past the stone fireplace, you come to your abode. It’s in the old ballroom of the manor, and the floor-to-ceiling bays windows and gilded mirrors haven’t changed since the days of swishing gowns and music from the pianoforte (indeed, there’s still a grand piano in here). 

Rather than a bandstand, there’s now a kitchen at the head of the ballroom, and if you prefer your evenings slightly more intimate, a book-lined snug with a plush velvet sofa awaits in the bedroom. We love the hand-carved antique bed, waiting to see you off to the land of nod.

There are acres of grounds to explore on the estate, but if you want to get out and see the Cornish coast, it’s just a ten-minute drive to the beaches of St Ives Bay. The gallery-filled old fishing town of St Ives itself is just twenty minutes by car.

Tucked away down a narrow country lane, this charming barn conversion offers a remote haven far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Your hosts have paid close attention to each and every element within the home, leading to a final result that is nothing short of breathtaking. A dual aspect sunroom on the first floor is the main social space and where we imagine you'll spend most of your time. 

Being encased in glass allows guests to get in touch with nature come rain or shine, while the adjacent balcony is perfect for a sunny afternoon cuppa overlooked by the resident donkeys in the next-door field.

A well-equipped kitchen is situated towards the back of the room and is more than capable of doing justice to any delicious local produce that you happen to pick up on your travels.

Head downstairs to the ground floor and unearth a gorgeous king-size bedroom, complete with a luxurious en-suite that includes an elegant freestanding bath and a spacious walk-in shower. 

Despite occupying a secluded spot in the middle of the countryside, the home is actually very well placed to explore the best of this spectacular county. Surfing hotspots including Newquay, Perranporth and Gwithian are no more than half an hour's drive. At the same time, the picturesque coastal town of St Ives offers fantastic food and high culture (courtesy of Tate St Ives), twenty-six miles away.

The Home Barn

Situated a five-minute stroll from the banks of the Helford River, this idyllic thatched cottage boasts waterside views and charming original features. Follow the path through the wildflower garden and enter the homely living space. Low timber beams and a wood-burning fire add a cosy ambiance that makes curling up on the sofa with a hot cup of tea irresistible. Throw together family favourites in the farmhouse-style kitchen and feast at the alfresco picnic bench. Spend glorious afternoons sipping cider on the patio as the river glitters in the sunshine or take a wander through the village. You’ll reach the pub in just two minutes and Helford Creek in no more than five. Should you fancy exploring further afield, you can take the leisurely thirty-minute stroll along the coastal path to the secluded Bosahan Cove – the true definition of a hidden gem.

The Chalk House

This restored Cornish farmhouse, dating back to 1278, offers guests a warm welcome. From a homemade fish pie ready to be popped in the Aga upon arrival to the fluffy towels in the bathrooms, a stress-free stay is guaranteed from start to finish. The rooms are thoughtfully styled with period antiques, and the conservatory, offering distant sea views, is the ideal place to enjoy a pre-dinner drink. Head outside, and you’ll find an enclosed garden with seating and a barbecue. Fancy exploring? Set off on the South West Coast Path or head to Porthleven, a thirteen-minute drive away.

Set on twenty-six acres of rolling farmland and blessed with soaring vaulted ceilings, a sociable open layout and plenty of natural light – there's a lot to love about this gorgeous Cornish cottage. 

Underfloor heating, a wood burner and a sumptuous corner sofa create a cosy atmosphere during the cooler months. Meanwhile, an enclosed garden, outdoor hot tub and a west-facing deck make for a spectacular spot to sip on sundowners as golden hour approaches on those seemingly endless summer days.

Settle in around a fire pit in the communal courtyard and sink some beers with new friends. And on those occasions when the weather isn't playing ball, your hosts are more than happy to set up a screening room in their event space – blankets and popcorn provided.

A mile down the road is the village of Stithians. Here, you'll find a popular pub serving modern takes on British classics, a couple of well-stocked corner shops and even an artisan bakery (who'll deliver to your door if you like). But, of course, there's no need to stop by a supermarket with all this on your doorstep, though you'll find a few options 4.5 miles away in Redruth.

Stithians reservoir is sure to appeal to watersports enthusiasts, with sailing, windsurfing and paddleboarding on offer, while the Mineral Tramways cycle path is also worth exploring.

The cottage's location in the west of the county makes it impossible to stray far from either the north or south coast. Seasoned surfers and weekend warriors will appreciate the proximity to plenty of excellent surf spots, including Porthtowan, Gwithian, and Porthleven, all within half an hour's drive.
