This characterful townhouse in the centre of Fowey is a lovely mishmash of exposed masonry, quirky wallpaper and coastal charm. But that's not the only reason we adore it – one look at the far-reaching views and you'll fall in love with it, too. Set over four levels, it's a bit of climb up to the fourth-floor lounge but trust us – it's worth every step. From up here, you've got a bird's eye view of the estuary, pretty Cornish coastline and the sparkling ocean, and the best spot to take it all in is the sunny roof terrace. Pour yourself a glass of wine (or a glass of juice for the little ones) and relish in the unforgettable sunsets, watching as the tide ebbs and flows. Then, when you've had your fill of the scenery (if that's even possible), make your way downstairs to the country-style kitchen for a family dinner before snuggling up in the sumptuous beds.

With its quaint boutiques and local eateries hiding all sorts of hidden treasures, there's plenty in Fowey to explore. With a waterfront position, it looks out across the estuary from all the main rooms so you can watch the water from morning to night. In the little village of Polruan, you'll be just opposite the popular town of Fowey, known for its trendy shops and eateries. An unusual home, you enter from ground level to an immaculate and bright open-plan living room. Thanks to the slope, although it's ground level at the front of the house, you'll feel you've stepped into a top floor apartment when you see the views from the rear. With vaulted ceilings and skylights, the all-white space is modern and comfortable, with a smart kitchen, big dining table and cosy seating area. Patio doors open to a private deck – the perfect spot to sit back with a glass of wine and just take it all in. Downstairs you'll find all the bedrooms and bathrooms – three with river views – and outside you have access across the lawn to a small mooring on the waterfront. With a shop and a pub just a few steps away from the home, you could easily spend your days here, but it's just a quick car ferry ride from the quay across to Fowey, or follow the coastal path for a hike towards Lantic Bay beach.

Set in the vibrant Cornish sailing community of Fowey, alongside several Victorian buildings, this apartment is like something out of a fairytale. Designed to an incredibly high standard by your host, Alison, the interior feels very in keeping with the seaside locale without ever coming across as a cliche. There's not a deckchair stripe in sight. Instead, you're treated to sculptural driftwood lamps, moody seascape paintings, and a sophisticated palette of deep blues and grey tones that reflect the British weather more accurately than the usual sunshine yellow. If you can bear to leave the home, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest in the immediate vicinity. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. The local community is a healthy mix of all ages who are warm and friendly and adept at making newcomers feel welcome.

Secondly, there’s no parking and the road outside is steep, however, one reserved parking space is provided, a ten-minute walk away. You’ll definitely need to bring your walking shoes.

And that good idea is made great by staying at this truly lovely home. 

The house is spread over three floors, with a ground-floor apartment in addition to a roomy second- and third-floor home – this is the perfect base for two separate families travelling together. You can gather together as much as you like, but when you need your own space it’s all there for you. We think the ground floor would be perfect for grandparents, while parents and little ones can spread out upstairs. 

You can look forward to wonderful views here. You’ll be able to admire boats sailing by from the kitchen window, and enjoy views of Fowey as you relax in the bath. Sit out on the terrace and take in the vista over to Polruan, ideally while sipping a chilled glass of wine. 

Readymoney Cove is just ten minutes away on foot, so make sure you bring your bucket and spade. Paddle in the water, skim stones or tuck into piping hot fish and chips on the sand. The harbour is just three minutes away, with its bevy of pretty boats. However you spend your time in Fowey, you’ll be delighted to have such a cosy and convenient space to call home.

The unusual “upside down” configuration – bedrooms and bathrooms on the ground floor, lounge and kitchen up top – is designed to make the most of those stellar views across the harbour. Throw open the windows and watch the boats bob on the gentle waves as you nurse your morning coffee. 

When it’s fair out, pull on your walking boots and follow the coastline to Lantic Bay, a leisurely thirty-six-minute amble, or hop on the ferry and pootle over to Fowey. Two can be arranged into twins if needed, and some boast their own waterfront panoramas. As for location, you'll have easy access to two beaches, coastal paths, and the ferry to Fowey. Just be sure to pack comfortable shoes – Polruan's steep hills and narrow streets make driving challenging, so travelling on foot is the best way to explore.

At the top of an imposing seafront building, it's a fully modernised home perfect for a couple, friends or a small family. 

We'll start in the open-layout living room, decorated in blues and whites – a reflection of the view outside. There's a comfy, L-shaped velvet sofa, a little dining nook by the patio doors and a superb, modern kitchen with a breakfast bar. Elsewhere, a beautifully styled main bedroom has a window seat overlooking the water and an en-suite shower room, while we particularly love the freestanding bath in the main bathroom.

Just a short walk or drive from the centre of town, you'll have a great choice of shops, restaurants and pubs on your doorstep, and the beach at Readymoney Cove is just a matter of minutes away too.

You can see the harbour, Polruan, Pont Pill, the ruins of St Catherine's Castle and right out to sea. You can also enjoy the seascape from the large bay window in the stylish living room. Or take in the reflections on the water from the window seat in the main bedroom. We love the beachy vibe in this home, with its various shades of blue, seaside paintings and beach hut cushions.

If you fancy a swim in the sea, head to Readymoney Cove, a five-minute stroll or two-minute drive away. Or take advantage of chic Fowey's array of boutiques, cafes and restaurants. There's a pub and shops around 400 metres from this home, too.


Daphne's Paradise

With its ideal positioning, elevated on a slight hill over Fowey, Moon Song gives you panoramic views across the estuary and out to the open sea. The balcony is the perfect place for a coffee or an evening aperitif as you admire the landscape. The town itself, with its lovely array of shops, traditional pubs and fine dining restaurants, is a five minute walk from the home, and the picturesque Readymoney Cove is just a short amble in the opposite direction. Head through the stable door, and you’ll find a colourful kitchen perfect for cooking up a seafood feast. This home is a house of joy and is ideal for a family or two couples.

Out and about, there are shops, cafes and two village pubs a short stroll away. The harbourside and glorious coastal walks are right on your doorstep. Or do some beachcombing – the seashore is 400 metres away. Polruan Castle, on the other hand, is a five-minute stroll. If you want to explore the town of Fowey opposite, the Polruan Ferry takes you across the estuary in under fifteen minutes, or a ten-minute drive will take you to the Bodinnick Car Ferry.

With views across the harbour to Readymoney Cove, this Cornish home has a splendid location. The coastal path is just yards away, so you’ll have idyllic walks right on your doorstep. The nearest beach is just over 800 metres away, as are bars and a grocery store, while Polruan Castle is just over 200 metres from this home. Fowey, with its art galleries, boutiques and fantastic restaurants, is nearby too. The Polruan Ferry takes you across the estuary to Fowey in under fifteen minutes.

Pick up some fresh produce, barbecue a Cornish feast, and enjoy it on your terrace while you look out to sea. The glorious seascape can be admired from the living room and every bedroom too, which we adore. The spacious eat-in kitchen will easily accommodate all the gang – this place is perfect for a family or a group of friends.


Readymoney Cove Vistas

Thanks to its elevated and southern facing position, this home benefits from uninterrupted sweeping sea views across the harbour to Readymoney Cove and out to Gribbin Head. 

Cliffbrake welcomes up to eight guests to enjoy this fabulous location, a few metres away from the coastal path to the sandy shores of Lantic Bay – around a thirty-five-minute walk away and an even shorter half a mile stroll to the pub, village shops and ferry port that goes to Fowey. With an abundance of coastal and country walks, we recommend packing comfortable shoes because this area truly is best explored on foot. But we also really wouldn’t blame you if you never wanted to leave this magnificent home. 

After all, the views here are spectacular and made even more picturesque with the boats that sail by. Enjoy these vistas from the terrace while you dine al fresco, or from the sunroom, the dining room and the cosy living area when the weather is being less kind. You needn't worry about missing out on the views from the other rooms of the home, as you'll even get to lap up them up from upstairs in the bedrooms too.

Ideally nestled into the east bank of the River Fowey, this lovely home offers plenty of space for up to eight guests in a tranquil setting. From inside the cottage, you can enjoy picturesque views of the river and the many estuary birds that visit during low tide. For four hours of either side of high tide, you can head out for some boating. 

Thanks to plenty of lawn equipment, the garden is ideal for dining alfresco and playing games. But that’s not all – the large, fully equipped kitchen offers a great setting for socialising, and with not one but two sitting rooms, there’s plenty of space for everyone to claim a corner for themselves when they want some time on their own. 

On colder nights, feel free to light the wood-burning stove and make yourself comfortable on the sumptuous sofas. Upstairs, two of the bedrooms are equipped with twin beds, making this home an excellent choice for a family.

Take the ten-minute walk to the pristine sands of the dog-friendly Par Beach, or head over to the dramatic cliffs of Carlyon Bay or the sheltered bay of Polkerris, which are both also nearby and offer a selection of eateries along the shoreline. For those with a hankering for hiking, there are plenty of lovely walking trails right out of the front door, including some of the most varied stretches of the South West Coast Path. The ever-popular seaside town of Fowey is also within easy reach, and if you fancy getting out on the water itself then some of Cornwall's best paddle-boarding can be enjoyed at nearby Golant.

We love the different coloured wood in the kitchenette, the blue tiles in the bathroom and the wicker lamps. The loveseat has a clear nautical theme, perfect for afternoon lounging, while the bed is luxurious and welcoming at the end of the day. Enjoy breakfast at the small wooden table, or outside in finer weather, and map out your plans for the day. For the more adventurous, there are several canoe, kayak and paddleboarding shops in Looe, with the choice to hire or go on a guided tour. Otherwise, hit the gorgeous coastal walking paths, following the cliffs and coastline and even passing a few sheltered little beaches.
