Designed to an incredibly high standard by your host, Alison, the interior feels very in keeping with the seaside locale without ever coming across as a cliche. There's not a deckchair stripe in sight. Instead, you're treated to sculptural driftwood lamps, moody seascape paintings, and a sophisticated palette of deep blues and grey tones that reflect the British weather more accurately than the usual sunshine yellow. If you can bear to leave the home, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest in the immediate vicinity. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. The local community is a healthy mix of all ages who are warm and friendly and adept at making newcomers feel welcome.

The colourful town of Fowey is often named one of the most beautiful places in England, and this sleek penthouse is right in the thick of it. You’re no more than a ten-minute walk from seafood eateries, traditional pubs and the pretty harbour with bobbing fishing boats. Plus, the sandy Readymoney Cove is only a twenty-minute stroll away. Drop your bags, grab the cricket set and beach tent provided by your host, and while away the hours on the seashore. When you’re salty-haired and worn out, your bright home welcomes you with open arms. Sink into the sofa with a tipple from the gin cabinet or pop open a bottle of fizz on the private balcony. Dollop cream and jam on scones at the cosy breakfast bar, before admiring the walls adorned with prints by local artist Becky Bettesworth. With a waterfront position, it looks out across the estuary from all the main rooms so you can watch the water from morning to night. In the little village of Polruan, you'll be just opposite the popular town of Fowey, known for its trendy shops and eateries. An unusual home, you enter from ground level to an immaculate and bright open-plan living room. Thanks to the slope, although it's ground level at the front of the house, you'll feel you've stepped into a top floor apartment when you see the views from the rear. With vaulted ceilings and skylights, the all-white space is modern and comfortable, with a smart kitchen, big dining table and cosy seating area. Patio doors open to a private deck – the perfect spot to sit back with a glass of wine and just take it all in. Downstairs you'll find all the bedrooms and bathrooms – three with river views – and outside you have access across the lawn to a small mooring on the waterfront. With a shop and a pub just a few steps away from the home, you could easily spend your days here, but it's just a quick car ferry ride from the quay across to Fowey, or follow the coastal path for a hike towards Lantic Bay beach.

The view from this period apartment in Fowey has to be seen to be believed. Step out onto its little balcony, complete with wrought iron railings, and you can look left towards the harbour, straight across the estuary to Polruan and right out to sea. A superb coastal viewpoint, sitting out here over breakfast, coffee, dinner or a glass of wine, is going to be your new obsession. At the top of an imposing seafront building, it's a fully modernised home perfect for a couple, friends or a small family. 

We'll start in the open-layout living room, decorated in blues and whites – a reflection of the view outside. There's a comfy, L-shaped velvet sofa, a little dining nook by the patio doors and a superb, modern kitchen with a breakfast bar. Elsewhere, a beautifully styled main bedroom has a window seat overlooking the water and an en-suite shower room, while we particularly love the freestanding bath in the main bathroom.

Just a short walk or drive from the centre of town, you'll have a great choice of shops, restaurants and pubs on your doorstep, and the beach at Readymoney Cove is just a matter of minutes away too.

The terrace offers panoramic views of boats bobbing on the estuary, making it the perfect place for alfresco dinners and sunset drinks. Inside is utterly charming, with an eat-in kitchen, a cosy lounge with a fireplace, and a trio of comfortable bedrooms. Two can be arranged into twins if needed, and some boast their own waterfront panoramas. As for location, you'll have easy access to two beaches, coastal paths, and the ferry to Fowey. Just be sure to pack comfortable shoes – Polruan's steep hills and narrow streets make driving challenging, so travelling on foot is the best way to explore.

When it’s fair out, pull on your walking boots and follow the coastline to Lantic Bay, a leisurely thirty-six-minute amble, or hop on the ferry and pootle over to Fowey. We’re passionate about coastal escapes, so as far as we’re concerned, a trip to Cornwall’s beautiful Fowey is always a good idea. And that good idea is made great by staying at this truly lovely home. 

The house is spread over three floors, with a ground-floor apartment in addition to a roomy second- and third-floor home – this is the perfect base for two separate families travelling together. You can gather together as much as you like, but when you need your own space it’s all there for you. We think the ground floor would be perfect for grandparents, while parents and little ones can spread out upstairs. 

You can look forward to wonderful views here. You’ll be able to admire boats sailing by from the kitchen window, and enjoy views of Fowey as you relax in the bath. Sit out on the terrace and take in the vista over to Polruan, ideally while sipping a chilled glass of wine. 

Readymoney Cove is just ten minutes away on foot, so make sure you bring your bucket and spade. Paddle in the water, skim stones or tuck into piping hot fish and chips on the sand. The harbour is just three minutes away, with its bevy of pretty boats. However you spend your time in Fowey, you’ll be delighted to have such a cosy and convenient space to call home.

But that's not the only reason we adore it – one look at the far-reaching views and you'll fall in love with it, too. Set over four levels, it's a bit of climb up to the fourth-floor lounge but trust us – it's worth every step. From up here, you've got a bird's eye view of the estuary, pretty Cornish coastline and the sparkling ocean, and the best spot to take it all in is the sunny roof terrace. Pour yourself a glass of wine (or a glass of juice for the little ones) and relish in the unforgettable sunsets, watching as the tide ebbs and flows. Then, when you've had your fill of the scenery (if that's even possible), make your way downstairs to the country-style kitchen for a family dinner before snuggling up in the sumptuous beds.

With its quaint boutiques and local eateries hiding all sorts of hidden treasures, there's plenty in Fowey to explore. Miles of idyllic coastline and countryside are ideal for walks, while harbourside cafes are the perfect spots to relax with a coffee before hiring a boat and setting off on an afternoon on the river. We also love the abundance of outdoor adventures to be found nearby, including guided kayak tours up the River Fowey and boat hires. The apartment has a communal outdoor terrace that's perfect for a breakfast in the sunshine before heading down to the beach. Nearby Readymoney Cove is on the other side of town, surrounded by cliffs that keep it sheltered on windier days. You will be able to enjoy stunning views from every room in this home. However, the waterfront patio here is truly the home’s crowning glory. Enjoy leisurely breakfasts at the picnic table overlooking the harbour and watch the boats pass by or look out across the water to the greenery of the National Trust woodlands.

Take a seat on the front terrace of this charming cottage and take in the glimpses of the estuary this chic town is famous for. There’s a patio off the garden room too, ideal for reading your holiday book and this place is perfect as an all-year-round getaway as there’s an open fire for those colder months. Just a couple of things to note with this home – firstly, the stairs to the second floor are a bit on the narrow side. Secondly, there’s no parking and the road outside is steep, however, one reserved parking space is provided, a ten-minute walk away. You’ll definitely need to bring your walking shoes.

You can see the harbour, Polruan, Pont Pill, the ruins of St Catherine's Castle and right out to sea. You can also enjoy the seascape from the large bay window in the stylish living room. Or take in the reflections on the water from the window seat in the main bedroom. We love the beachy vibe in this home, with its various shades of blue, seaside paintings and beach hut cushions.

If you fancy a swim in the sea, head to Readymoney Cove, a five-minute stroll or two-minute drive away. Or take advantage of chic Fowey's array of boutiques, cafes and restaurants. There's a pub and shops around 400 metres from this home, too.


Daphne's Paradise

With views across the harbour to Readymoney Cove, this Cornish home has a splendid location. The coastal path is just yards away, so you’ll have idyllic walks right on your doorstep. The nearest beach is just over 800 metres away, as are bars and a grocery store, while Polruan Castle is just over 200 metres from this home. Fowey, with its art galleries, boutiques and fantastic restaurants, is nearby too. The Polruan Ferry takes you across the estuary to Fowey in under fifteen minutes.

Pick up some fresh produce, barbecue a Cornish feast, and enjoy it on your terrace while you look out to sea. The glorious seascape can be admired from the living room and every bedroom too, which we adore. The spacious eat-in kitchen will easily accommodate all the gang – this place is perfect for a family or a group of friends.

Tucked away in delightful Polruan with its own secret, walled courtyard garden beyond the gate, this charming cottage is the perfect Cornish retreat. The south-facing patio has a lovely Mediterranean vibe with its lush plants and terracotta flowerpots. Head through the stable door, and you’ll find a colourful kitchen perfect for cooking up a seafood feast. This home is a house of joy and is ideal for a family or two couples.

Out and about, there are shops, cafes and two village pubs a short stroll away. The harbourside and glorious coastal walks are right on your doorstep. Or do some beachcombing – the seashore is 400 metres away. Polruan Castle, on the other hand, is a five-minute stroll. If you want to explore the town of Fowey opposite, the Polruan Ferry takes you across the estuary in under fifteen minutes, or a ten-minute drive will take you to the Bodinnick Car Ferry.

This Cornish retreat, located just 2.5 miles away from Fowey and a ten-minute walk away from Par Sands Beach is a dreamy spot from which to escape the daily grind. With its cottage-like aesthetic, the home offers all the necessary home comforts to ensure a comfortable stay. Laid out like a studio, the living area and bedroom present an open space to kick back in after a day of taking in the surrounding nature. A muted colour palette of creams and greys, alongside the earthy hues of the wooden furnishings and flooring, create a humble abode, that proves easy to cosy up in and relax. The kitchen leads out onto a private terrace, where guests can lap up the sunshine on a summer's afternoon or watch the bats flying around at dusk. Pick apples from the many apple trees around the property when venturing out along the nature-filled pathways. When you return back, there's even a useful little handheld shower outside for muddy boots and rinsing off the dogs. Once you've worked up an appetite, light up the barbecue for an evening in – since there's no light pollution here, you'll see the glimmering stars light up the sky on a clear night. The home is idyllically situated down a picturesque farm track surrounded by fields – meaning a peaceful night's sleep is undoubtedly on the cards. Enjoy walks down to the local pub at the bottom of the hill for a nightcap and leisurely strolls along the southwest coastal path (just a ten-minute walk away) during the light of the daytime. With the nearest Co-op supermarket only a mile away and Cornwall Newquay Airport, just a thirty-minute drive away for those travelling from further afield – you won't have to compromise on convenience here either.

The Burrower's Den

Thanks to its elevated and southern facing position, this home benefits from uninterrupted sweeping sea views across the harbour to Readymoney Cove and out to Gribbin Head. 

Cliffbrake welcomes up to eight guests to enjoy this fabulous location, a few metres away from the coastal path to the sandy shores of Lantic Bay – around a thirty-five-minute walk away and an even shorter half a mile stroll to the pub, village shops and ferry port that goes to Fowey. With an abundance of coastal and country walks, we recommend packing comfortable shoes because this area truly is best explored on foot. But we also really wouldn’t blame you if you never wanted to leave this magnificent home. 

After all, the views here are spectacular and made even more picturesque with the boats that sail by. Enjoy these vistas from the terrace while you dine al fresco, or from the sunroom, the dining room and the cosy living area when the weather is being less kind. You needn't worry about missing out on the views from the other rooms of the home, as you'll even get to lap up them up from upstairs in the bedrooms too.

Only a ten-minute drive from the cobbled streets of Polperro and the bustling harbour town of Looe, this studio apartment is a countryside hideaway. Part of a converted hotel, the home is set in the rolling fields of Cornwall. We love to run an evening bath in the outdoor tub and watch the sunset over the hills. The small plot is great for a solo stay or romantic retreat – with a comfy king-size bed and small kitchenette to cook up light meals and breakfasts. The hosts are particularly attentive and bursting with recommendations and helpful tips. Lace up your walking boots: there are paths to explore on the four acres of land the home is set on, or drive to the nearby South West Coast Path for tramps over coastal cliffs. On sunny days, it's a quick journey to Cornwall's most beautiful beaches. We love Lantic Bay, a sheltered cove that's only accessible by foot, for a sense of privacy. For dinner, it's best to head out and make the most of the abundance of seafood in this region.

For those with a hankering for hiking, there are plenty of lovely walking trails right out of the front door, including some of the most varied stretches of the South West Coast Path. The ever-popular seaside town of Fowey is also within easy reach, and if you fancy getting out on the water itself then some of Cornwall's best paddle-boarding can be enjoyed at nearby Golant.

No matter how you end up spending the day, you can always look forward to returning to this traditional yet chicly-finished cottage. As soon as you step through the doors, you'll be greeted by a warm and cosy interior that's really brought to life by the addition of funky patterned wallpaper, notes of brilliant blue, and eye-catching original stone detailing. We love the different coloured wood in the kitchenette, the blue tiles in the bathroom and the wicker lamps. The loveseat has a clear nautical theme, perfect for afternoon lounging, while the bed is luxurious and welcoming at the end of the day. Enjoy breakfast at the small wooden table, or outside in finer weather, and map out your plans for the day. For the more adventurous, there are several canoe, kayak and paddleboarding shops in Looe, with the choice to hire or go on a guided tour. Otherwise, hit the gorgeous coastal walking paths, following the cliffs and coastline and even passing a few sheltered little beaches.
