Wander Carbis Bay’s crescent of white sands and turquoise waters or go on a water adventure and grab a paddleboard or kayak from the beach-based surf school. For beautiful walks, we can highly recommend the coast path from here to St Ives, which showcases spectacular views over the bay, and the 1.9km walk has a gentle ascent meaning the whole family can enjoy the scenery and bracing sea air. Or, if that sounds like too much for you, the single-track railway of the St Erth line follows that same path along the coast offering passengers an incredible vantage point to see all of St Ives Bay and beyond.

However, we recommend checking out the fishing village of Padstow, about an hour away. With glorious views of St Ives, as pretty as the coastal paintings this artistic town is known for – you won't want to leave this amazing Edwardian townhouse. Situated in a private terrace, with no passing traffic, take in the turquoise ocean vistas from the beautiful, sunny terrace, surrounded by pink hydrangeas, with a glass of Cornish fizz. Or head inside, where you'll be greeted with large bay windows – admire the town, harbour and the sparkling sea from here. Our favourite spot has to be the plush velvet window seat in the bedroom. With two living areas and several outdoor spaces, this home is perfect for a family or group of friends looking to spread out. To top it all, there's parking for up to two cars, which is a rare bonus in St. Ives.

The vibrant town centre is a five-minute walk, where you'll find plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. It's the same walking distance to Porthminster Beach, one of St Ives's six beaches – the others are Porthgwidden, Harbour, Porthmeor, Lambeth Walk and Bamaluz – so you're spoilt for choice. For art lovers, the Barbara Hepworth Museum is a seven-minute saunter, while the Tate St Ives is eleven minutes on foot.

If you're here with the family, you'll be within easy driving distance of two blue flag beaches, meaning they're particularly clean with plenty of amenities for a guaranteed wonderful day out. If you're heading over to Porthmeor Beach, the most famous , you'll want to take in some of the famous art scene at the Tate St Ives right beside it. Hikers and those who love to indulge in some nature walking will be in for a treat, with no shortage of coastal paths to discover during your trip. You can expect to indulge in some fabulous local food too, whether you're whipping up something from local ingredients in the kitchen, or heading out to one of the many nearby restaurants where you're sure to discover your new favourite dish.

Head down to the beach and dip your feet into the Celtic Sea, or take a walk out to the Island (don’t worry, it’s a peninsula). It will sweep you off your feet with its location perched above the coast, offering stunning views out onto the deep blue sea. The living space of the home opens directly onto the balcony and unrivalled vistas across the bay. Dine alfresco on the secluded terrace, but be warned it will be difficult to tear yourself away from this picture-perfect spot once you're comfy. Inside, soft furnishings including the muted sofa suite, wooden furniture and a toned-down colour palette create a warm space, ideal for moments of relaxation where you can listen to the soothing sound of the waves crashing in the background. Positioned in Marazion, Cornwall’s oldest town, there are plenty of discoveries to be made here – the beaches at low tide are sublime in summer and even on cold winter days. You could sneak in through the back at this apartment in a Regency manor, but that would take away from the grand entrance worthy of a Jane Austen heroine. Sashaying through the double doors and across the marble floor, past the stone fireplace, you come to your abode. It’s in the old ballroom of the manor, and the floor-to-ceiling bays windows and gilded mirrors haven’t changed since the days of swishing gowns and music from the pianoforte (indeed, there’s still a grand piano in here). 

Rather than a bandstand, there’s now a kitchen at the head of the ballroom, and if you prefer your evenings slightly more intimate, a book-lined snug with a plush velvet sofa awaits in the bedroom. We love the hand-carved antique bed, waiting to see you off to the land of nod.

There are acres of grounds to explore on the estate, but if you want to get out and see the Cornish coast, it’s just a ten-minute drive to the beaches of St Ives Bay. The gallery-filled old fishing town of St Ives itself is just twenty minutes by car.

We’re not one for hyperbole, but the views from the terrace of this home really are spectacular. Not only do you have the ocean stretching out as far as the eye can see, but the beautiful bay of Praa Sands also curves down below, and the patchwork fields of south Cornwall lie in the distance. Admire the view from the perfectly placed hot tub, drink a morning coffee on the glass-fronted balcony, or cook a meal on the barbecue to enjoy overlooking the water. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room means that you can take in the scene even on cold days – when you may want to fire up the woodburner for a cosy evening in.
