This cosy Cornish cottage is an exemplary example of boutique living. There are all sorts of quirky additions to the interior that lend a sense of personality, from the record player and acoustic guitar to the book collection with plenty of local guides. The welcome gift of Cornish wine and produce is also a lovely touch.

That being said, all the essentials are nailed, too. In the living room, the wood-burning stove will really come into its own during colder evenings, as will the pretty freestanding tub in the bathroom. The long turquoise kitchen is plenty big enough for whipping up hearty suppers after a long day of exploring Cornwall's great outdoors.

If you're into your rambling, Bodmin Moor starts just over five minutes' drive from your front door, with stone circles and tors to punctuate your walking. Both Fistral and Polzeath Beaches take around forty minutes to reach in the car. If, however, you want to see the local area on two wheels, the home comes with a pair of bicycles that guests are more than welcome to borrow and the Camel Trail lies two minutes' pedal from the front door.

The River Camel runs through the valley and is accessible to guests who can also fish on the private land here.

Although there are extensive grounds to roam, the home also offers its own enclosed patio for visitors to enjoy – perfect for an alfresco lunch or sunset glass of wine. Original timber beams and exposed stone walls hark back to the barn's heyday, but the electric car charging point, rainfall shower and Sonos speakers are just a few of the 21st-century updates. This is the perfect spot for a family to unwind in the Cornish countryside. While parents rustle up a meal in the kitchen, kids can hang out in their own room, playing on the Xbox One. On summer evenings, everyone will enjoy a barbecue in the courtyard before retreating inside to the cosy living area for a movie night, but when the weather turns nippy, cuddle up by the log burner instead. There's plenty to get up to in the local area, too. You're almost equidistant from both the North and South coasts of Cornwall. Spend a day at the beach in Padstow or visit historic Charlestown, both of which are less than a forty-minute drive away. For those who enjoy long country ambles, Cardinham Woods is just five miles away and offers plenty of walking and cycling trails. After a stroll in the fresh air, finish the day with a coffee at the pet-friendly woodland cafe or a pint at one of the pubs in nearby Bodmin.

With exposed stone walls, a crackling wood-burning stove and cushy sofas fit for lounging, the atmosphere is utterly cosy and comfortable. A sumptuous bathtub is where you can soak away sore muscles after a long bike ride, while the kitchen has everything you need to rustle up a romantic meal, including a slow cooker. In the mornings, sip a cup of tea and tuck into a hearty breakfast in the living room; in the evenings, set up the barbecue on the large, grassy lawn and enjoy an alfresco feast as the sun goes down.

When you're in the mood to whip up a homecooked meal, the stylish blue kitchen has everything you'll need – on warm days, take your dinner into the enclosed garden and enjoy it in the evening sun, or if you'd prefer not to cook, end the afternoon with a pint at the pub down the road. Wadebridge town centre is about a twenty-minute walk (or a five-minute drive) away and home to an array of eateries, bars, coffee shops and boutiques to pass the time in. And there's plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy, be it cycling along the Camel Trail, roaming Cornwall’s famous coast or lounging on the sand at Rock Beach, just twenty minutes by car.

From Land to Sea

This cosy barn-turned-cottage is a tranquil escape for couples looking to discover what gems dot the North Cornish coast. From here, it's a quick drive to Padstow, Port Isaac and Tintagel, their beaches and historical landmarks. Closer to home, scenic walks on Bodmin Moor or the Camel Trail might also call solo hikers to hunker down here. Though the rustic style might not be everyone's cup of tea, it's comfortable for two, and we feel the exposed beams and wood-burning stove add to the homeliness of the space. The picnic bench in the garden is a welcome addition for alfresco meals and sunset drinks.

When the Cornish coast comes calling, take your pick from the north and south coast – you’re perched between them both. Our vote goes to Polperro Beach (a 15.4 kilometre drive) for bucket and spade days or, for a little more bustle, an afternoon in Fowey is just the ticket.

Back home, those pretty arched windows and clapboard vaulted ceilings are the stars of the show here. Look elsewhere, and you’ll uncover thoughtful touches like freshly-cut flowers and a welcome hamper filled with goodies in the shaker-style kitchen to make your stay unique. While over in the restful bedrooms, each with en-suites, you can tell an interior designer has been working their magic with modern floral textiles nailing the British eccentric style. And the icing on the cake? That suntrap, private terrace surrounded by blooming flowers to while away the long summer nights.

From Poldark to Daphne du Maurier and Rosamund Pilcher, Cornwall has been the setting for many romantic brooding novels about passionate hearts and secret loves. Back at this home, whip up a Cornish cream tea in the modern kitchen with its metro tiles and breakfast bar and enjoy it at one of two outdoor tables (at the front or back) – our favourite is the front garden with its lawn and drystone wall. This lovely cottage is the perfect retreat for two.

An 18th-century building carefully restored to its original plan, it expertly showcases the building’s past through the use of exposed Cornish slated walls, original beams, restored feature fireplaces, and other raw materials that combine in a perfect mix of old and new.  

Formerly a listed Manor House, Courthouse, and Mill, the building is filled with a sense of history as well as its own unique character and sense of place. Lounge in the luxurious living spaces or enjoy a special meal together with your loved ones in the grand dining room that's flooded with that inimitable Cornish coastal light. The fantastically well-equipped kitchen means there has never been a better time to dust off the old chef's apron and put your culinary skills to the test. Here you'll find not one but four ovens, a pizza oven, Braai, and much more – so something tasty to eat is never far away.

One of our favourite things about this home has to be the garden, and we think it is the perfect place to sit back with a glass of wine and really savour that holiday feeling. Fancy a little something extra? For an additional fee, you can have the hot tub at your disposal throughout your stay. Perfect for soaking any tired muscles or simply enjoying an evening of unadulterated relaxation.

Explore hidden coves and their crystal-clear waters, sample the freshest fruits of the sea, or head out into the country for a breath of fresh air away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life.

This Must Be the Padstow Place

A big family home in the ever-popular town of Padstow, this place has plenty of wow factors – from rare private parking to stunning views across the River Camel estuary. Set on a slope, its three floors make the most of its position with views getting better and better at the top of the house. Inside, it's a tasteful blend of period features and contemporary styling, with a subtle nod towards its coastal location in its palette of whites, greys and blues. The Edwardian home has been thoroughly updated to provide a perfect spot for a large family getaway. There are two living rooms to choose from (one for the youngsters to hang out in, perhaps?) and a big kitchen diner with an Aga and everything you'll need to cook on night's in. We particularly love the big bedroom on the top floor, with its panoramic estuary views all the way across to Rock, and the semi-covered patio at the back where you can barbecue on sunny afternoons. The garden goes up in steps from the house, finally reaching a raised deck with a dining table and chairs – the ideal place to enjoy the sunshine and that famous view. Just minutes away on foot, Padstow's beautiful harbour and legendary dining scene offer all sorts of options, and it's just a short hike along the coast to the nearest beach. Or catch the foot ferry and paddle in the clear waters at Rock.

Ideally located between Bodmin Moor and the coast, the Boconnoc Estate offers unbeatable access to Cornwall’s vibrant countryside. Don’t forget to bring your wellies because one of the best things to do here is to get outside. Eggs In A Basket is perfect for a large family or gathering of friends. Sequester yourself away in a peaceful corner of the estate and enjoy sweeping views across the parkland from the patio. Spend a spring day exploring the grounds, collect your eggs for breakfast or find tonight’s dinner growing in the market garden. We’d recommend requesting the in-house chef for your feasting needs. The more adventurous among you can make the most of the foraging spots and harvest handfuls of wild garlic to cook themselves. After a day of activity, switch off and relax inside. The playful decor by Sarah Fortescue features furnishings sourced both locally and around the globe. We love the dining table made from oak sourced directly from the estate.

Eggs In A Basket

Quaint Cornish living and refined elegance come together in this stunning home. It’s in a wonderful location in beautiful Padstow, and has been recently redesigned to guarantee that guests have the most luxurious stay possible – it ticks every box. 

The house is just a seven-minute walk from the centre of Padstow and its pretty, characterful harbour. Perhaps you’ll stroll into town first thing for breakfast in one of the many cafes and restaurants, before making your way to the beach. Lower Beach is our favourite, and it’s just an eighteen-minute walk from the house. Take along your bucket and spade and make memories in this most picturesque part of the UK. 

When you make your way back to the house, sun-kissed and sandy, fire up the barbecue. Spend your evening in the garden, admiring the views of the Camel Estuary and watching the sun slowly set. The garden is the jewel in the crown of this lovely home, with comfortable seating and bi-folding doors than can be opened wide to give the living space a holiday feel.

It's fair to say that this Cornish farmhouse and piggery has undergone quite the transformation. Inside, guests will find a pleasing mix of wooden floorboards, grey tiling and the odd burst of refreshing blue on the walls. There are nods to the buildings' former purpose in the shape of the gleaming white Aga in the kitchen and the log-burner in the living room, but otherwise, it's a thoroughly modern affair. Outside, there's a Scandi-style, wood-fired hot tub to see you through the evenings, as well as a barbecue and plenty of outdoor seating on which to lounge back and enjoy the silence that abounds in this corner of England. Although the home's location feels secluded, there's plenty to keep you occupied during your stay — both the town of Padstow and the Eden Project take only twenty-five minutes to reach in the car.

Year of the Pig

Boconnoc is a little parish just a few miles outside of Lostwithiel, one of Cornwall's most sought-after rural villages. Staying here will give you the comfort of choosing whether you prefer the peace and quiet of the estate or the somewhat livelier compact village up the road where you can find a few brilliant gastropubs. Of course, nothing is stopping you from taking the car to other places like Fowey and the Eden Project as the whole of the peninsula is well-marked and the roads can easily take you quite far in under an hour. The cottage itself is a beautifully refurbished affair, draped in bold colours and furnished with comfortable furniture. You'll get plenty of light, access to the estate's tennis courts and games room, as well as the option of getting fresh seasonal produce delivered from the kitchen garden. If you're looking to really put your feet up and relax, the host can organise a private chef and regular in-house cleaning. 

Kindred Spirits

Arriving at Slates By The Shore, you might not be expecting the good-looking cottage that awaits behind the front door. You'll be struck by its swanky style, a mix of authentic stone walls and flooring with the centrepiece of a modern spiral staircase. Put your feet to good use and explore the town of Padstow and, venturing further, take to the Camel Trail, an eighteen-mile hiking (or cycling) trail that takes you through glorious coastal scenery. Back in Padstow, speedboat rides, cobbled souvenir shops, and a good old serving of fish and chips await.   

Slates By The Shore

When browsing for holiday lets, one often has to sacrifice living space for proximity to attractions. Not with this three-bed, six-person apartment in the well-known Cornish fishing town of Padstow. Just a minute’s walk from the harbour, and Rick Stein’s world famous fish and chips, it also has generous living rooms, a large patio garden and ample parking. La La Lilypad

Tucked away in the charming streets of Padstow, this laid-back cottage blends a youthful personality with rustic roots. That's why wooden beams, flagstone floors and crates repurposed as tables rub shoulders with industrial-chic lighting, comfy furnishings in bold colours and dazzlingly white bathrooms complete with rainfall showers. 

After a long day by the seaside, put your feet up in front of the log burner with a good book and a glass of wine in hand. We also liked the large blue kitchen, where you can cook up a storm when you're feeling peckish – the pendant lights hanging above the island are actually made from old kilner jars – as well as the bedrooms with their antique French beds, which will add a sense of occasion to your nightly routine. 

Although the local neighbourhood feels residential, the town's lively harbour and the surrounding cafes, gourmet restaurants and seaside pubs can be reached in under five minutes on foot. There's no shortage of beautiful beaches in North Cornwall either, with St George’s Cove a twenty-minute trek along the South West Coast Path and Hawker's Cove an eleven-minute drive away. All in all, it's a great place to call home on your Cornish getaway.

Designed to an incredibly high standard by your host, Alison, the interior feels very in keeping with the seaside locale without ever coming across as a cliche. There's not a deckchair stripe in sight. Instead, you're treated to sculptural driftwood lamps, moody seascape paintings, and a sophisticated palette of deep blues and grey tones that reflect the British weather more accurately than the usual sunshine yellow. If you can bear to leave the home, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest in the immediate vicinity. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. The local community is a healthy mix of all ages who are warm and friendly and adept at making newcomers feel welcome.
