Your days in Porthleven don’t have to be so hard, meandering down to the harbourfront in just a few minutes where boats still land the fresh catch of the day, supplying a glut of independent restaurants. There’s a soft-sand beach here too, for days on the surfboard.

Speaking of which, if you want to hang your wetsuit out to dry and store your board, there’s a private backyard just for this. Inside, we love the exposed stone walls still on display – a nod to the home’s history. Sinking into one of the sofas is a delight after a day on a surfboard or walking the South West Coastal Path. The hardest choice at this cosy home is deciding whether to stay and enjoy sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean from the attic room or to head out to explore the glorious Cornish coastline that sits mere metres away. When you're ready to explore the area, you're just a two-minute walk from Porthleven Beach, while the local shops, and your host's favourite pub is around five minutes on foot. We highly recommend packing comfortable walking shoes because the coastal paths here are spectacular and not to be missed. Of course, there are also plenty of water-related activities available as well. Enjoy a boat tour to discover the area's wildlife,  go fishing or rent surfboards – there's plenty going on and this home sits in the very heart of the action.

Upon arrival, your host will warmly welcome you with a hamper full of luxury Cornish fare and home-baked goods to start your holiday right. And for the full experience, we highly recommend a classic Cornish pasty or fish and chips on the beach for a satisfying lunch. 

Return home and wash off the sand in your outdoor shower before enjoying a few drinks in the garden. The barbecue is ready to go to cook up a feast, or you could enjoy a homecooked dinner around the dining table inside if the weather starts to chill. There's nothing more homely than gathering around with family and friends in a Cornish cottage, while the traditional fireplace warms you up from the inside out.
