It’s in the centre of Looe, just five minutes from the beach and a three-minute walk from the train station. A working fishing town, the immediate area is filled with restaurants and pubs serving the freshest catch of the day and there’s a town beach where soft sand slips into turquoise sea. 

The view from big, Victoriana windows is over the quayside of the East Looe River so you can watch boats putting in and out. This place may look like a grand, Victorian villa on the outside, but inside it’s pristine white and modern with vibrant pops of silky blue. Set in a former hotel, this home is an excellent choice for exploring some of Cornwall's prettiest corners while avoiding the crowds. It’s a minutes’ drive from the bustling port of Looe, where we love to mosey around the model village, gorge on the catch of the day at a restaurant or perch on the sheltered beach. Polperro is also close by, a ten minutes’ drive away, with its cobbled streets and local pubs. Back at home, you’ll find a relaxing bright environment with beachy vibes. We love the different coloured wood in the kitchenette, the blue tiles in the bathroom and the wicker lamps. The loveseat has a clear nautical theme, perfect for afternoon lounging, while the bed is luxurious and welcoming at the end of the day. Enjoy breakfast at the small wooden table, or outside in finer weather, and map out your plans for the day. For the more adventurous, there are several canoe, kayak and paddleboarding shops in Looe, with the choice to hire or go on a guided tour. Otherwise, hit the gorgeous coastal walking paths, following the cliffs and coastline and even passing a few sheltered little beaches.

The small plot is great for a solo stay or romantic retreat – with a comfy king-size bed and small kitchenette to cook up light meals and breakfasts. The hosts are particularly attentive and bursting with recommendations and helpful tips. Lace up your walking boots: there are paths to explore on the four acres of land the home is set on, or drive to the nearby South West Coast Path for tramps over coastal cliffs. On sunny days, it's a quick journey to Cornwall's most beautiful beaches. We love Lantic Bay, a sheltered cove that's only accessible by foot, for a sense of privacy. For dinner, it's best to head out and make the most of the abundance of seafood in this region.

This building started its life as a dairy but, thanks to a complete renovation along with the neighbouring homes, it's now a cosy cottage ideal for switching yourself off from the world. Though redesigned for modern living, wandering around we were awestruck by just how well this home marries its traditional past with stylish modernity. The stone exterior, timber beams and wooden floors retain the dairy feel, but shiplap-clad white walls and chic kitchen cupboards emphasise the light, and the silver wood burning stove offers a futuristic twist on a farmhouse classic. It's almost a surprise inside when you consider your surroundings, a rural and well looked-after working farm. Outside you've got your own courtyard too, a suntrap perfect for barbecues and listening to birdsong and the occasional moo and baa. The rolling Cornish countryside is right on your doorstep, while the ancient market town of Liskeard is just three miles away. If you fancy a day at the seaside, Looe and Seaton are a six-mile drive away.

Though this home in Looe is a bit of a climb, we think it's worth it. Once you reach the top of the steep lane, you'll have a magnificent view of the boats bobbing along the East Looe River from the private deck. It's a pretty sight, and thanks to the table and chairs, you'll be able to savour the scenery day or night alongside alfresco meals and evening cocktails. The inside makes the most of the location, too – not only do the Victorian bay windows in the lounge and bedrooms flood the rooms with light, but they also show off the water views. Cooking is anything but a chore in the sleek kitchen - it has everything you need to rustle up a delicious dinner, including a kitchen island for light bites. On rainy days, snuggle up in the living area – there's a DVD player, Netflix, a PS3 for gamers and an array of board games to play – but when the weather is nice, there's no better place to soak up the sun than East Looe Beach. It's an eight-minute walk away, so grab a towel and hit the sand. Also within walking distance are lots of traditional pubs, independent restaurants and local cafes if you're not in the mood to cook, and with the Eden Project just over a half hour's drive away, you'll be well-placed for exploring South East Cornwall.

Located mere miles from the Cornish coast and well known for being one of Cornwall’s most historic properties, this Grade II-listed manor home cuts a striking figure. You’ll discover plenty of hidden gems from the moment you step foot on the 25-acre stretch of land, and we guarantee that there’ll be another surprise always waiting around the corner. Find the Elizabethan ruins outside, along with orchards, paddocks and woodland designed by Sir Humphrey Repton in 1972.  

If you can resist the lure of the roses, honeysuckle, and jasmine mixed together in a sweet floral scent outside, you might be able to explore the wonder of the home instead. Read in the light of the sprawling arched windows or come together in the drawing room each evening for a glass of port. Run your fingers over period pieces and gilded mirror frames as you stroll to the generous kitchen for another cup of coffee.

Enjoy sunset drinks in the wood-fired hot tub or around the gnarled tree – the lawn is also ideal for spontaneous picnics or for little ones to run around on.

Formerly part of a hotel, the plot has been restyled into a homely space, with a comfy king-size bed at the centrepiece of the room. We think there's somewhat of a Scandi-style interior here, with plain bedspreads, all-white walls and pale wood furnishings. There's also a convenient kitchenette for preparing breakfast and quick lunches, but it's less than a ten-minute drive into some of Cornwall's prettiest villages and some great food. Order the catch of the day at one of the seafood restaurants in Looe, or wander around Polperro's narrow cobbled streets until you come across a traditional pub. Sandy beaches and clear waters are also a short five-minute drive from home. The two beaches at nearby Talland are lovely for paddling or rock pooling. Further afield, Lantic Bay is only accessible by foot, meaning fewer crowds. For the ultimate relaxation, it's back home for a glass of champagne and an alfresco bath under the stars.

Hardwood floors and beamed ceilings in the bedrooms also hint at the home’s history, while the white walls and blue accents remind you that the sea is never too far away. The home’s private garden is the perfect spot to listen to the morning birdsong or to fire up the barbecue on balmier evenings. On colder nights, board games await on the sofa by the wood-burning stove. As well as the private outdoor space, the home boasts an acre of beautifully landscaped gardens, ideal for picnics and walking the dog. The view from this seaside home has to be one of the best in Looe – overlooking the sandy beach and as close to the sea as it gets. Split over two floors, it's a large and practical apartment with a balcony and plenty of room for a family or group of friends. And with the beach just steps from your door, we imagine you'll be out there for morning walks, afternoons of sandcastle building and maybe even evening paddles.

Inside, you'll have two bedrooms and two bathrooms on the entrance level, meaning there's an upside-down arrangement here – allowing the main bedroom and living room to benefit from the best views. Open and bright, the living space upstairs has comfy seating, a dining table and doors out to the balcony. Shades of blue, white and grey reflect the view outside and they're continued into the kitchen, where a large hatch keeps everything nice and sociable at meal times. 

Here you'll also be just a short walk from Looe's many restaurants, tea rooms and shops, with the working fishing harbour on your doorstep and boat trips out to the nearby island. And there's lots to explore within an hour's drive too, from Plymouth's aquarium to the Eden Project.

Sitting in the middle of a thirty-acre farm in the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this barn conversion is a fittingly impressive home for such an idyllic location. 

There are plenty of spots from which you can gaze out at the pretty meadows, woodland and the banks of the River Tamar that surround the address, whether that's out through the floor-to-ceiling windows that line the main living space or while seated on the roof terrace bordered by a leafy pergola. However, the home's interior is well worth your attention, too. Certain features have been retained from the building's industrious past, including wooden ceiling beams and exposed stonework, but otherwise, the design is bright and contemporary.

The number of amenities available to guests distinguishes this home from the pack. Not only is there a homely wood-burning stove in the main space, but there's a games room with a ping-pong table and darts board in a section that was once a cattle shed, plus lots of equipment for outdoor games beside the forecourt and lawned area. Here you will find tables, benches and additional seating for your exclusive use and space to stoke up barbecues and challenge the group to a variety of games.

Elsewhere on the site, there are the ruins of a silver and lead mine accompanied by the pumping engine house and smithy, part of the industrial landscape recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are other footpaths that lead off into the countryside, but you can also stroll down to the banks of the River Tamar, on which there's a two-hour window every day when it's safe to use it for water sports.

Set over three floors, all facing the sea just steps away, it's part of a gleaming new development of a handful of striking, contemporary houses. We enter via the games room and utility area on the ground floor, where you'll find a pool table and – as odd as it may sound – a dog shower. Perfect for washing the sand from your furry friend, it's a unique feature we think could make all the difference to your stay. There's a ground floor bedroom and bathroom – perfect if some guests prefer a little more privacy – and stairs lead up to the large kitchen and impressive living room. Here you can enjoy panoramic views of the coastline and access both a small balcony and a side terrace with an outdoor dining table. It also happens to house a private hot tub with sea views.

The two remaining bedrooms and bathrooms are on the top floor and it's here you'll find our favourite room. The main bedroom is simply stunning, with a private balcony and a large en-suite bathroom with a glass wall so that, from the raised bathtub, you can not only see the TV but also out through the patio doors to the sea. 

Perfect for a group of friends or a family here to relax on the beach, it's only a short walk to the Whitsand Bay Golf Course, and a cute café, with plenty of big attractions within a short drive.

Follow your Nautical Star

Be your own Lord and Lady of the Manor at this bucolic cottage tucked away on the grounds of a Georgian stately home in Cornwall.

With a spread of deer parklands and lakes (wild swimming and paddle boarding, anyone?) on your doorstep, there’s heaps to keep you busy here. Channel the good life, collecting fresh eggs and picking vegetables from the kitchen garden. Look elsewhere, and you’ll uncover thoughtful touches like freshly-cut flowers and a welcome hamper filled with goodies in the shaker-style kitchen to make your stay unique. While over in the restful bedrooms, each with en-suites, you can tell an interior designer has been working their magic with modern floral textiles nailing the British eccentric style. And the icing on the cake? That suntrap, private terrace surrounded by blooming flowers to while away the long summer nights.
