Fishing boats and surfboards sit side by side in the harbour, just outside this home’s walls. It’s in the centre of Looe, just five minutes from the beach and a three-minute walk from the train station. A working fishing town, the immediate area is filled with restaurants and pubs serving the freshest catch of the day and there’s a town beach where soft sand slips into turquoise sea. 

The view from big, Victoriana windows is over the quayside of the East Looe River so you can watch boats putting in and out. This place may look like a grand, Victorian villa on the outside, but inside it’s pristine white and modern with vibrant pops of silky blue. An exposed stone fireplace still sits at the heart of the living room though, where French doors let the natural light stream in. Cook your own catch of the day in the ultra-modern kitchen which is big enough for several chefs to bustle around in.

The real bonus here is the private terrace, which is set with a table and chairs. Overlooking the quayside, this is the perfect spot to share a bottle of something bubbly as the sun goes down over the water.

When you imagine a stereotypically Cornish cottage, this quaint whitewashed home covered in cascading roses can’t be far from the mark. 

Inside, this romance continues. The soft-hued interior is cosy and oh-so-delicate, with pretty pinks and soft greys mixed with nautical touches and vintage-style furnishings. That being said, the kitchen and bathroom lie on the more contemporary side.

Out through the back door, guests also get the run of a lush green garden with sea views, which you can admire while sitting on the patio with the barbecue smoking away in the background. An added bonus comes in the shape of a sea-blue summer house full of candy-coloured cushions just waiting for you to recline with a good book.

Part of a converted hotel, the home is set in the rolling fields of Cornwall. We love to run an evening bath in the outdoor tub and watch the sunset over the hills. The small plot is great for a solo stay or romantic retreat – with a comfy king-size bed and small kitchenette to cook up light meals and breakfasts. The hosts are particularly attentive and bursting with recommendations and helpful tips. Lace up your walking boots: there are paths to explore on the four acres of land the home is set on, or drive to the nearby South West Coast Path for tramps over coastal cliffs. On sunny days, it's a quick journey to Cornwall's most beautiful beaches. We love Lantic Bay, a sheltered cove that's only accessible by foot, for a sense of privacy. For dinner, it's best to head out and make the most of the abundance of seafood in this region.

Set in a former hotel, this home is an excellent choice for exploring some of Cornwall's prettiest corners while avoiding the crowds. It’s a minutes’ drive from the bustling port of Looe, where we love to mosey around the model village, gorge on the catch of the day at a restaurant or perch on the sheltered beach. Polperro is also close by, a ten minutes’ drive away, with its cobbled streets and local pubs. Back at home, you’ll find a relaxing bright environment with beachy vibes. We love the different coloured wood in the kitchenette, the blue tiles in the bathroom and the wicker lamps. The loveseat has a clear nautical theme, perfect for afternoon lounging, while the bed is luxurious and welcoming at the end of the day. Enjoy breakfast at the small wooden table, or outside in finer weather, and map out your plans for the day. For the more adventurous, there are several canoe, kayak and paddleboarding shops in Looe, with the choice to hire or go on a guided tour. Otherwise, hit the gorgeous coastal walking paths, following the cliffs and coastline and even passing a few sheltered little beaches.

Formerly part of a hotel, the plot has been restyled into a homely space, with a comfy king-size bed at the centrepiece of the room. We think there's somewhat of a Scandi-style interior here, with plain bedspreads, all-white walls and pale wood furnishings. There's also a convenient kitchenette for preparing breakfast and quick lunches, but it's less than a ten-minute drive into some of Cornwall's prettiest villages and some great food. Order the catch of the day at one of the seafood restaurants in Looe, or wander around Polperro's narrow cobbled streets until you come across a traditional pub. Sandy beaches and clear waters are also a short five-minute drive from home. The two beaches at nearby Talland are lovely for paddling or rock pooling. Further afield, Lantic Bay is only accessible by foot, meaning fewer crowds. For the ultimate relaxation, it's back home for a glass of champagne and an alfresco bath under the stars.

On chilly evenings, you can throw a log on the fire and curl up with a board game or a good book. The bright and airy dining space is perfect for long, lavish dinners cooked using fresh ingredients from the verdant Cornish countryside. Best of all, there's plenty of outside space to enjoy when the sun is shining. Sip a tipple on the patio, then fire up the barbeque for an alfresco feast with a sea view. We enter via the games room and utility area on the ground floor, where you'll find a pool table and – as odd as it may sound – a dog shower. Perfect for washing the sand from your furry friend, it's a unique feature we think could make all the difference to your stay. There's a ground floor bedroom and bathroom – perfect if some guests prefer a little more privacy – and stairs lead up to the large kitchen and impressive living room. Here you can enjoy panoramic views of the coastline and access both a small balcony and a side terrace with an outdoor dining table. It also happens to house a private hot tub with sea views.

The two remaining bedrooms and bathrooms are on the top floor and it's here you'll find our favourite room. The main bedroom is simply stunning, with a private balcony and a large en-suite bathroom with a glass wall so that, from the raised bathtub, you can not only see the TV but also out through the patio doors to the sea. 

Perfect for a group of friends or a family here to relax on the beach, it's only a short walk to the Whitsand Bay Golf Course, and a cute café, with plenty of big attractions within a short drive.

You'll have all the charming rustic touches you would hope for — exposed stone walls, a vaulted ceiling and a log burner — but there's a modern feel, and absolutely no chintz. You can slip into your own wood-fired hot tub just outside the back door, and the host has been thoughtful enough to provide a generous stack of logs to get you started. Meet the farm animals or set off alongside the private Nature Reserve to discover the private shingle beach on the River Tamar. Later, take advantage of some of the farm's other surprises — a communal games room with ping-pong, a shared tennis court, a hammock hidden away in the orchard, and a basketball hoop. With a number of extra activities also bookable, you can take part in a foraging workshop, try out stand-up paddleboarding or get involved in local wine tasting. Alternatively, you can drive to the port city of Plymouth in about forty minutes and visit the National Marine Aquarium.

Situated right on the water in pretty Polruan, this cottage is quite a find. The terrace offers panoramic views of boats bobbing on the estuary, making it the perfect place for alfresco dinners and sunset drinks. Inside is utterly charming, with an eat-in kitchen, a cosy lounge with a fireplace, and a trio of comfortable bedrooms. Two can be arranged into twins if needed, and some boast their own waterfront panoramas. As for location, you'll have easy access to two beaches, coastal paths, and the ferry to Fowey. Just be sure to pack comfortable shoes – Polruan's steep hills and narrow streets make driving challenging, so travelling on foot is the best way to explore.

There’s a private sun terrace with a barbecue and outdoor seating for warm weather days. Inside, the living room has everything you could need for cosy evenings at home (including a wood burning fire), while the bedrooms make it easy to switch off and unwind. Outside, it’s a short refreshing walk to the local shops, award-winning restaurants, cafes and pubs. You’ll also find Readymoney Cove is just a ten-minute walk away.

This building started its life as a dairy but, thanks to a complete renovation along with the neighbouring homes, it's now a cosy cottage ideal for switching yourself off from the world. Though redesigned for modern living, wandering around we were awestruck by just how well this home marries its traditional past with stylish modernity. The stone exterior, timber beams and wooden floors retain the dairy feel, but shiplap-clad white walls and chic kitchen cupboards emphasise the light, and the silver wood burning stove offers a futuristic twist on a farmhouse classic. It's almost a surprise inside when you consider your surroundings, a rural and well looked-after working farm. Outside you've got your own courtyard too, a suntrap perfect for barbecues and listening to birdsong and the occasional moo and baa. The rolling Cornish countryside is right on your doorstep, while the ancient market town of Liskeard is just three miles away. If you fancy a day at the seaside, Looe and Seaton are a six-mile drive away.

Take a seat on the front terrace of this charming cottage and take in the glimpses of the estuary this chic town is famous for. There’s a patio off the garden room too, ideal for reading your holiday book and this place is perfect as an all-year-round getaway as there’s an open fire for those colder months. Just a couple of things to note with this home – firstly, the stairs to the second floor are a bit on the narrow side. Secondly, there’s no parking and the road outside is steep, however, one reserved parking space is provided, a ten-minute walk away. You’ll definitely need to bring your walking shoes.

Located on a working farm six miles from Looe and Seaton where there are two other homes, this country retreat is a dream for rural adventurers. Stepping through the front door, we were hit by how well the living space beautifully marries traditional cottage living with modern style – the painted exposed stonework is a particularly stunning nod to the home's former life as a barn. Hardwood floors and beamed ceilings in the bedrooms also hint at the home’s history, while the white walls and blue accents remind you that the sea is never too far away. The home’s private garden is the perfect spot to listen to the morning birdsong or to fire up the barbecue on balmier evenings. On colder nights, board games await on the sofa by the wood-burning stove. As well as the private outdoor space, the home boasts an acre of beautifully landscaped gardens, ideal for picnics and walking the dog. And with so many landmarks and the South West Coast Path a short drive away, there are plenty of outdoor escapades to be had – fitting for life on the farm.
