This is the perfect spot for a family to unwind in the Cornish countryside. While parents rustle up a meal in the kitchen, kids can hang out in their own room, playing on the Xbox One. With its cottage-like aesthetic, the home offers all the necessary home comforts to ensure a comfortable stay. Laid out like a studio, the living area and bedroom present an open space to kick back in after a day of taking in the surrounding nature. A muted colour palette of creams and greys, alongside the earthy hues of the wooden furnishings and flooring, create a humble abode, that proves easy to cosy up in and relax. The kitchen leads out onto a private terrace, where guests can lap up the sunshine on a summer's afternoon or watch the bats flying around at dusk. Pick apples from the many apple trees around the property when venturing out along the nature-filled pathways. Designed to an incredibly high standard by your host, Alison, the interior feels very in keeping with the seaside locale without ever coming across as a cliche. There's not a deckchair stripe in sight. Instead, you're treated to sculptural driftwood lamps, moody seascape paintings, and a sophisticated palette of deep blues and grey tones that reflect the British weather more accurately than the usual sunshine yellow. If you can bear to leave the home, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest in the immediate vicinity. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. The local community is a healthy mix of all ages who are warm and friendly and adept at making newcomers feel welcome.

Look elsewhere, and you’ll uncover thoughtful touches like freshly-cut flowers and a welcome hamper filled with goodies in the shaker-style kitchen to make your stay unique. While over in the restful bedrooms, each with en-suites, you can tell an interior designer has been working their magic with modern floral textiles nailing the British eccentric style. The nearby holiday destination of Lostwithiel is only four miles away and offers a few brilliant places to eat, but you'll also be staying quite near to the Eden Project and the seaside wonders of Fowey. While the outside of this cottage is pleasantly traditional, the insides are bold and stylish. There are plenty of vivid colours, soft forniture that you can melt into after a long day of exploring, and a lovely wood-burning stove. If you want to focus on relaxation, not household chores, you can get fresh seasonal produce delivered from the garden kitchen and even book a private chef to whip up something magical with them. The host also offers regular cleaning and a little bird told us that there will be a little Cornish present waiting for you on arrival.

Situated right on the water in pretty Polruan, this cottage is quite a find. The terrace offers panoramic views of boats bobbing on the estuary, making it the perfect place for alfresco dinners and sunset drinks. Inside is utterly charming, with an eat-in kitchen, a cosy lounge with a fireplace, and a trio of comfortable bedrooms. Two can be arranged into twins if needed, and some boast their own waterfront panoramas. As for location, you'll have easy access to two beaches, coastal paths, and the ferry to Fowey. Just be sure to pack comfortable shoes – Polruan's steep hills and narrow streets make driving challenging, so travelling on foot is the best way to explore.

Just a short stroll from Fowey town centre, this 18th-century cottage is a wonderful base for a relaxing coastal break. Boconnoc is a little parish just a few miles outside of Lostwithiel, one of Cornwall's most sought-after rural villages. Staying here will give you the comfort of choosing whether you prefer the peace and quiet of the estate or the somewhat livelier compact village up the road where you can find a few brilliant gastropubs. Of course, nothing is stopping you from taking the car to other places like Fowey and the Eden Project as the whole of the peninsula is well-marked and the roads can easily take you quite far in under an hour. The cottage itself is a beautifully refurbished affair, draped in bold colours and furnished with comfortable furniture. You'll get plenty of light, access to the estate's tennis courts and games room, as well as the option of getting fresh seasonal produce delivered from the kitchen garden. If you're looking to really put your feet up and relax, the host can organise a private chef and regular in-house cleaning.

Is there anything more soothing for the soul than strolling along the seafront, feeling the sea breeze in your hair? We’re passionate about coastal escapes, so as far as we’re concerned, a trip to Cornwall’s beautiful Fowey is always a good idea. And that good idea is made great by staying at this truly lovely home. 

The house is spread over three floors, with a ground-floor apartment in addition to a roomy second- and third-floor home – this is the perfect base for two separate families travelling together. You can gather together as much as you like, but when you need your own space it’s all there for you. We think the ground floor would be perfect for grandparents, while parents and little ones can spread out upstairs. 

You can look forward to wonderful views here. You’ll be able to admire boats sailing by from the kitchen window, and enjoy views of Fowey as you relax in the bath. Sit out on the terrace and take in the vista over to Polruan, ideally while sipping a chilled glass of wine. 

Readymoney Cove is just ten minutes away on foot, so make sure you bring your bucket and spade. Paddle in the water, skim stones or tuck into piping hot fish and chips on the sand. The harbour is just three minutes away, with its bevy of pretty boats. However you spend your time in Fowey, you’ll be delighted to have such a cosy and convenient space to call home.

This upper-floor apartment is a great getaway for a family with young children. The cabin bedroom may not be well-suited for adults, but doubling up as another TV room, it’ll most likely be the little ones' favourite area of the home. The pad also boasts a lovely terrace, which guests can make the most of on those sunny Cornish days. From here, you have panoramic views of the picturesque town of Fowey and the river, which are easily accessible thanks to the central location.

A Voyage to the Sea 

Take a seat on the front terrace of this charming cottage and take in the glimpses of the estuary this chic town is famous for. There’s a patio off the garden room too, ideal for reading your holiday book and this place is perfect as an all-year-round getaway as there’s an open fire for those colder months. Just a couple of things to note with this home – firstly, the stairs to the second floor are a bit on the narrow side. Secondly, there’s no parking and the road outside is steep, however, one reserved parking space is provided, a ten-minute walk away. You’ll definitely need to bring your walking shoes.

Set in a former hotel, this home is an excellent choice for exploring some of Cornwall's prettiest corners while avoiding the crowds. It’s a minutes’ drive from the bustling port of Looe, where we love to mosey around the model village, gorge on the catch of the day at a restaurant or perch on the sheltered beach. Polperro is also close by, a ten minutes’ drive away, with its cobbled streets and local pubs. Back at home, you’ll find a relaxing bright environment with beachy vibes. We love the different coloured wood in the kitchenette, the blue tiles in the bathroom and the wicker lamps. The loveseat has a clear nautical theme, perfect for afternoon lounging, while the bed is luxurious and welcoming at the end of the day. Enjoy breakfast at the small wooden table, or outside in finer weather, and map out your plans for the day. For the more adventurous, there are several canoe, kayak and paddleboarding shops in Looe, with the choice to hire or go on a guided tour. Otherwise, hit the gorgeous coastal walking paths, following the cliffs and coastline and even passing a few sheltered little beaches.

Utterly enchanting were our thoughts when we first saw this beautifully renovated Grade II listed Charlestown home – this place is very special indeed. Relax in the lovely, secluded south-facing garden or in the glass-covered courtyard filled with scented jasmine and verdant tree ferns – it's the perfect spot for a glass of Cornish fizz in the evening while doing a bit of star gazing. 

We love the bedroom, which is open to the rafters, as well as its cast-iron freestanding bathtub. On stormy nights, you may even hear the sound of the waves – what a wonderful way to fall asleep.

The following day, help yourself to tea or coffee, and feast on scrumptious Cornish cinnamon buns, provided courtesy of your hosts Antonia and David. They can also deliver oven-ready meals for lunch or dinner. 

If you prefer to eat out, there are an array of tempting restaurants on your doorstep to choose from. Or pop to the deli and take a picnic down to Charlestown Beach, a one-minute stroll away. Other beaches to try in the area include the golden sands of Porthpean, a five-minute drive. For history lovers, the Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre is a one-minute saunter, or keen hikers can have a walk around Gribben Head, a fifteen-minute drive from this home.
