It's set right on the sand, with a private path bringing you down to the shoreline – meaning you can dip your toes in the sea within seconds of closing the door. The outdoor deck has a hot tub, where you can watch the sun go down with a glass of wine, along with a free-standing bath tub and dining area, for alfresco meals with a view of the Cornish coast. Inside, large windows usher in loads of sunlight, and a fireplace brings warmth on those cooler evenings. The unique bedrooms feature plush beds with ornate headboards, as well as one delightful four-poster bed fitted with sumptuous white curtains. Take a short drive to sample Padstow's famous seafood restaurants, admire the Bedruthan cliffs or enrol in surf school at Watergate Bay – there's something for everyone in this charming spot in North Cornwall.

When the sea finally lures you in, spend your days exploring the awesome coastal path that leads to Newquay, Padstow and beyond (it goes right past here) or learning to surf down at the beach – it’s just 150 metres from your door. Enjoy long walks on the South West Coast Path – the cliff tops at Park Head offer incredible views across to the sea stacks at Bedruthan Steps (a ten-minute ride away). Back at this wonderful barn – it's perfect for a family or a group of friends looking for a tranquil retreat. Inside, we were blown away by the rustic charm mixed with elegant modernism. We love the Delabole slate bathrooms, exposed stone walls and vaulted beams throughout this home. In fact, this place has been designed with socialising and entertaining in mind – it's a great space to spend quality time together. On chillier days, curl up in front of the cosy wood-burning stoves in the living room or den and settle in for an evening of board games with the family. There are four acres of grounds to explore here, including orchards and wildflower meadows. There's even an outdoor shower, so you can rinse off after visiting the beach – your lovely hosts have really thought of everything here.  Our favourite spot in the garden has to be the magical summerhouse – savour the spectacular views that stretch to the Atlantic Ocean or recline on the day bed and read a book. It's just one of the many fantastic features that make this home so very special.

That's a year-round pursuit. There's no such thing as cold water, just the wrong gear. And there are plenty of local surf shops that can kit you out. Away from the beach, the town beckons with an excellent selection of seafood restaurants and cool cafes with some classic Cornish fare too. Who doesn't love a pasty? Or for a change of pace, Padstow is just ten miles north, and The Eden Project is a thirty-minute drive away. Just be sure to make it home for dusk to fire up the barbecue and enjoy the ultimate post-surf relaxation in the sauna and hot tub. With the views of the setting sun in the distance, there is no better place to be.

Tucked away on a quiet lane in Cubert, a small village on the North Coast of Cornwall, this cottage is just the place to recharge your batteries. Once a piggery and hay barn, many of the original features are still inside, from the vaulted timber beam ceilings to the exposed stonework. But old-world charm is not all that's on offer – with underfloor heating, rainfall showers and a sleek high-spec kitchen, creature comforts abound. Best of all is the location. Stroll through the green orchards towards the village, home to a beloved 16th-century pub and a few coffee shops. When you're in the mood for a beach day, hop in the car and drive five minutes to Holywell Bay, a haven for exceptional surfing, sandy beaches and excellent restaurants.
