There are many marvellous things about this wood-panelled cottage, but its unique location at Mawgan Porth has to be the highlight. It's set right on the sand, with a private path bringing you down to the shoreline – meaning you can dip your toes in the sea within seconds of closing the door. The outdoor deck has a hot tub, where you can watch the sun go down with a glass of wine, along with a free-standing bath tub and dining area, for alfresco meals with a view of the Cornish coast. Inside, large windows usher in loads of sunlight, and a fireplace brings warmth on those cooler evenings. The unique bedrooms feature plush beds with ornate headboards, as well as one delightful four-poster bed fitted with sumptuous white curtains. Take a short drive to sample Padstow's famous seafood restaurants, admire the Bedruthan cliffs or enrol in surf school at Watergate Bay – there's something for everyone in this charming spot in North Cornwall. 

Dune Cottage

Set within walking distance of Tolcarne Beach and Lusty Glaze, if you’ve been dreaming of sandy strolls along the seafront, this place has got your name written all over it.

Kitted out with all the best appliances and state of the art technology, get set to prep food with nifty Neff appliances and brew your morning coffee with the handy Nespresso machine. 
It’s contemporary but cosy. A spacious open plan living area presents the perfect place to gather in the evenings, meanwhile the luxurious bedrooms are laden with Egyptian cotton sheets, promising the best possible night’s sleep. 

We love the attention to detail in this place. Subtle nautical touches are peppered from room to room and natural textured furnishings add an earthy appeal. We love the jute rugs, woven baskets and pebble displays, but for us, it’s the wooden surfboard and paddle board that really bring the wow factor. 

Start each day with fresh fruit salad at the breakfast bar before retreating to the private garden with a hot, creamy latte. Soak up that first glimpse of morning sun and inhale the invigorating sea breeze before swapping your slippers for sandals and taking to the shore. 


Pink Glow

If you like the idea of going eco-friendly for a while but don't want to completely give up on comforts, this cosy barn powered by renewable energy could just be a happy compromise. 

The renovated cob and stone property sits within six acres of idyllic riverside woodland and is built out of natural materials, including oak, lime, cob, pigmented clay plaster and locally sourced slate. Inside, there are a few rustic features, such as the exposed stonework and wood-burning fireplace, but otherwise, it's undeniably contemporary thanks to the conservatory, sleek kitchen and pristine bathrooms. The fact that it's powered by a wind turbine and a heat pump is pretty impressive, too.

Given the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding grounds, you'll be happy to hear that there's a natural swimming pool close to the home — shared only with the host, who lives on the site, and one other barn — as well as a barbecue and some spots for an alfresco feast. 

Although it feels like you're in splendid isolation at this address, you can head back to civilisation pretty swiftly if you wish. The town of Truro takes a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, while Perranporth Beach on the north and south Cornish coastlines can be reached in just under twenty-five.

Song of the Land

Kids and adults alike will be enchanted by this cottage nestled in the rolling green countryside. With a range of excellent amenities and plenty of space to enjoy, it's a great pick at any time of year. 

The soothing interior, cloaked in blue tones and natural textures, is a haven where you can truly relax. Fire up the wood-burner on chilly evenings and curl up with a good movie. And, on sunny days, you'll be delighted that there's a large lawn where the kids can play while you sit at the picnic table with a cool drink and breathe in the fresh air. 

This home is in an excellent location for you to explore the world-famous Cornish coastline. The popular town of Newquay, renowned for its surfer community, is just a fifteen-minute drive away, and there are several beaches to explore from sandy shorelines to hidden coves. Mawgan Porth beach is a leisurely twenty-minute stroll from the home – on your way back why not enjoy a trip to the village pub? For the adrenaline fans among you, try your hand at cycling, hiking, wild swimming or kayaking in the local area.

Just Like Magic

With the Gannel estuary, rugged coastal paths and the craggy Pentire Penninsula on your doorstep, this home is awash with a low-key, British seaside atmosphere. From the incredible sun deck, private freestanding tub and the beach barbecue area to the roaring wood burner in the living room, this home is perfectly set up to make the most of its enviable location, whatever the weather. 

The open-plan kitchen and dining room is decorated in white, with plenty of blonde wood that serves to remind you of the beach. There's a wood burner to keep you cosy on blustery days, while there are French doors that lead out onto a large decking area that can be flung open when the sun's out.

Elsewhere in the home, uncover a soothing colour palette of greens, blues and oranges that echo the breathtaking sea views and jaw-dropping sunsets that you'll witness from the west-facing terrace. It's a theme that continues through to the tranquil bedrooms including the main room's stylish Soho House bed. In addition to a fantastic night's sleep on the comfy mattress, this room also benefits from a private patio complete with a freestanding tub – perfect for sunset pampering sessions with a glass of wine.

Porth View

When it comes to dramatic scenery, few parts of the UK can rival Cornwall and you'll find yourself agreeing with this if you stay in this apartment with an uninterrupted view of Newquay Beach and the county's northern coastline. As it's on the ground floor of the building, it means that, out through the living room's glass doors, there's a terrace on which you can sit and admire this sweeping vista.

When you can finally draw your eyes away from what lies outside, you'll find a contemporary home shaped by stark white walls and sleek surfaces. There are a few nautical mementoes that nod to the local area, but you'll be happy to hear that these all fall on the tasteful side of things. Importantly, you can easily get warm here after a day in the great outdoors, thanks to the underfloor heating and the inviting bathtub in the toffee-coloured bathroom

As well as Newquay Beach awaiting just across the road, the South West Coast Path runs directly past the home and you can continue it in either direction to see a little more of the region's celebrated landscape. In local Newquay, there's a good choice of restaurants and bars to keep you refreshed, as well as an aquarium and a zoo.

Everybody's Gone Surfin'

This Cornwall home might be compact, but it definitely does the job. Not only is it wonderfully bright with all the right furnishings to make it feel cosy, but it also puts you within easy access to Perranporth Beach. 

Stroll to find where golden sand meets the Atlantic and wander the stretching beach until you’ve come across the perfect spot to spend the day. Perranporth is a paradise for watersports enthusiasts, so why not sign up for snorkelling or surfing lessons? Build sandcastles, eat melting ice cream, frolic in the surf or sunbathe whilst listening to the gently lapping waves until you go in search of lunch. 

You’ll find quite a few restaurants in the surrounding – one only a minute away from your front door – but we recommend fish and chips to pay homage to the coastal location. 

Of course, you can always bring your chippy back home to enjoy it in peaceful solitude on the terrace. Stay out after enjoying an ice-cold pint in the sunshine as the children run around on the sloping lawn. 

Razorbill

A masterstroke in modern living, this architect-designed home stands proud overlooking majestic Watergate Bay. Set out over two floors united by considered design, downstairs, you’ll find three airy, luminous bedrooms with contemporary en-suites and a cosy cinema room for movie nights. Head upstairs and things keep getting better, with a further bedroom offering up direct access to the landscaped gardens. But for us, the clear standout feature has to be the palatial living area and kitchen with incredible views of the distant fields rolling into the glistening sea. This space is best served with the patio doors slid right back to let the sunshine in as you come together for lazy breakfasts around the dining table. And when the sea comes calling, you won’t have far to go. The two-mile-long surfing beach at Watergate Bay with a buzzy cafe and restaurant is a mere ten-minute walk away. Or for a change of pace, Padstow is just ten miles north, and The Eden Project is a thirty-minute drive away. Just be sure to make it home for dusk to fire up the barbecue and enjoy the ultimate post-surf relaxation in the sauna and hot tub. With the views of the setting sun in the distance, there is no better place to be.

Tolcarne Beach is only two minutes' walk away and the larger Newquay Beach takes ten. An added benefit is that the apartment itself has storage options for surfboards and bicycles, which gives you alternative ways to explore the Cornish coastline.
