A short walk from the pretty harbour, this home couldn't be more typical of Mousehole if it tried. Once declared 'the loveliest village in England' by Dylan Thomas, 'Mowzul' is an ever-popular place to visit with narrow streets lined with historic cottages. Set over three floors, this former fisherman's loft is Grade II listed and has just the right balance of character features and modern, coastal-inspired styling. On the ground floor, a modern, eat-in kitchen provides everything you'll need for cooking at home, while the comfortable living room upstairs has the home's main entrance, an electric fire and a charming window seat. The top floor bedrooms are pretty special and we particularly love the vaulted ceilings and clever internal porthole windows. From the master bedroom, you can even see across to St Clement's Isle and beyond – what could be better? Stroll to the nearby, shops, cafes and restaurants or drive to Lamorna Cove (ten minutes) or Penzance (fifteen minutes).

Midway along a quaint narrow road set back from the bustling Mousehole Harbour, this Cornish cottage is a quaint and stylishly formed home-from-home. Situated in Mousehole, one of Cornwall’s prettiest fishing villages, this cottage is a cosy stay from which to explore the coast and beyond. The interiors are neutral-toned and homespun, with the occasional nod to the abode’s nautical surroundings. Spend late mornings pottering around the kitchen-living space; slather Cornish clotted cream on scones and enjoy with a pot of tea on the sun trap patio. Slip on your sandals and take a stroll along the harbour, just metres from your doorstep. Dip in and out of locally-owned galleries and cafes before settling in with an ice-cool beverage by the water’s edge. When you’re keen to expend a little more energy, lace up your walking shoes and set off on the fifty-four-minute ramble to Lamorna Cove Beach. This gorgeous home can be found on the hill behind Mousehole, under a mile away, in the traditional village of Paul. There you’ll find a cosy pub and a 15th-century parish church – if you’re looking for authentic English charm, look no further. It’s in the heart of the Cornish countryside but still close to the coast, making it popular with hikers and surfers alike. We love Sennen beach for the waves, but Penzance is just as easy to get to if you prefer building sandcastles. 

The house has been recently refurbished with much love. Muted hues and natural textiles are key to the style of this laid-back, comfortable home-from-home. When you’re not lounging inside or dining at the farmhouse-style table, you’ll likely be enjoying the fabulous outside space. 

Let the kids tire themselves out playing on the lawn, in the Wendy house, on the swings, or playing table tennis. Meanwhile, you can slip into the hot tub with a glass of something bubbly and really start to unwind. We loved this home’s wooden deck – with stunning sea views, a dining table, barbecue, two loungers and Adirondacks facing the ocean, it’s fully equipped for time well-spent outside. Factor in that you’re less than a ten-minute walk from the beach and you have a real winner. Meander down the South West Coast Path to laidback Sennen Cove with its stretch of golden sand and tropical-blue water. Here Cornish fishermen brush shoulders with tousle-haired surfers. We recommend renting a board and catching a wave – there are two highly-rated surf schools in the area. When you return home, hit the outdoor shower and set your wetsuits to dry in the warm utility room before heading inside, where you’ll find it’s just as lovely as its surroundings – smart and minimal with touches of nautical chic. We especially love the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living area. Kick back on the sofas and play a board game or puzzle all together. Then gather around the light wood table for a feast before retiring to the bedrooms for some restful sleep, knowing there’s another beautiful seaside morning waiting for you when you awake. 

Surf Style

When life gets in the way of actually living, all it takes to reset is to retreat to an idyllic barn like this Grade II listed one in Cornwall. When you wake up here on your first morning feeling a little more calibrated, why not pop open the bi-fold doors to this little studio and get back in bed with a coffee and crossword. Puzzle it out together as you unwind, and if you happen to fall asleep again, then rest assured knowing time has no domain here. Indoors, we love the contemporary design, and that the twin room can be set up for a couple instead. Though the bathtubs offer relaxation, take care not to bump your head on sloped ceilings. You can reach Newlyn on foot, but the well-known Penzance is only a ten-minute drive from here.

The Bay Dreams

The tiny hamlet of Crowlas is home to this rustic stone cottage, located less than a five-minute walk from the village centre. Stepping foot inside this former hay barn, the interiors might surprise you. While the furnishings and the kitchen are wonderfully modern, the wooden stairs and the wood burning stove are gorgeous, rustic features which make the space feel warm and homely. After a windswept day at the beach, coming home will feel like bliss when you can curl up by the fire with a cup of tea. And the flames continue outside. With a fire pit and a barbecue, the kids can roast marshmallows while someone else handles the burgers on the grill. This garden is a stunning spot where you can let the little ones run around – and you can lie back in the sun loungers to enjoy the serenity of the countryside. For a day out of your sanctuary, hop in the car and head through the village to pick up picnic supplies. As the crow flies, you’re under two miles from the rugged coasts of Cornwall. However, we recommend checking out the fishing village of Padstow, about an hour away. Or St Ives is only a fifteen-minute drive from home, where you can visit high-end restaurants and visit the Tate Gallery.

Bounded on two sides by National Trust land, this picture-perfect Cornwall home is in the middle of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – the perfect place to come and get away from it all. You aren't wholly isolated here, though, as the charming local village of Treen has a shop, a cafe and a good, old-fashioned Cornish pub just a two-minute walk away. Also within walking distance is Pedn Vounder Beach, only fifteen minutes away on foot, which is an excellent place to laze in the sand and splash around in the turquoise sea. Built in the 1930s, this idyllic hideaway has been in the host's family for decades, and you can sense that welcoming atmosphere as soon as you step through the front door. Original period features have been beautifully brought back to life, including a gorgeous walnut fireplace with a cosy wood-burning stove. There's plenty of snug seating – whether you want to stretch out, curl up with a book from the library or admire the views – and the kitchen is designed with entertaining in mind. But the garden is the real stand-out. It's set on several different levels, with all sorts of nooks and crannies to tuck yourself away in. It's the ideal spot to enjoy afternoon tea and evening cocktails, surrounded by apple trees, an herb garden and wild hydrangea bushes that feel like something out of a fairytale.

With the Tate, Barbara Hepworth Museum, lots of beautiful beaches great for swimming or surfing, as well as an array of independent shops, restaurants and cafes – this home is sure to fulfil the needs of surfers. walkers, swimmers, cyclists and art lovers.

In one corner, there's a wood burner, which can warm you up after a day of surfing and frolicking about on the beach. The South West Coast runs by the address and continues in either direction for plenty more stunning landscape, while Penzance only takes seventeen minutes to reach in the car if you want a day of galleries and restaurants.

Cornish Nightingale

Located just six miles north of Land’s End and two miles from St Just, this fantastic coastal position gives guests the opportunity to experience plenty of excitement while basking in the glory of peaceful serenity. With breathtaking views of the Atlantic ocean, as well as an abundance of flora and fauna, from seabirds to golden gorse and pink thrift, the sights you see here are second to none. If you’re lucky, you may even wake up to find seals lounging on the rocks below the headland. In that case, be like them, sit out on the patio and let the sound of the crashing waves relax you.

This home, located on a quiet residential street above Carbis Bay’s Parthrepta Beach, is the perfect base from which solo travellers, couples or small families can explore the coastal towns and beaches of St Ives Bay including Carbis Bay, which is just a fifteen-minute walk from your door. The annexe offers a small gravel courtyard at the back of the home which is ideal for sun-soaked mornings enjoying a leisurely breakfast alfresco, or an afternoon tea with fresh Cornish cream, jam and scones. 

Wander Carbis Bay’s crescent of white sands and turquoise waters or go on a water adventure and grab a paddleboard or kayak from the beach-based surf school. For beautiful walks, we can highly recommend the coast path from here to St Ives, which showcases spectacular views over the bay, and the 1.9km walk has a gentle ascent meaning the whole family can enjoy the scenery and bracing sea air. Or, if that sounds like too much for you, the single-track railway of the St Erth line follows that same path along the coast offering passengers an incredible vantage point to see all of St Ives Bay and beyond.  

After a busy day, the home’s open-plan living space will provide you with a comfortable sofa to unwind from your beach days, while the dining area beckons you to share meals and discuss your plans for the following day over a delicious dinner.

She's a Bay Dreamer

Located in the small town of St Levan, this home is perfectly placed for family beach holidays and getaways with your friends. Start your mornings here with a cup of tea and breakfast at the kitchen island before exploring everything the Cornish coast has to offer. 

Renowned for its snow-white sands and turquoise-blue waters, Porthcurno Beach is situated in a small cove between grassy headlands and is reachable in just four minutes by car or if you fancy a long walk, you can reach it on foot in thirty-three minutes. The large boulder formations here add to the beaches striking appearance and also provide great conditions for both bodyboarding and swimming. What’s more, backing the beach is the iconic open-air Minack theatre with its Grecian architecture and panoramic views over the bay. From May until September, you will be able to experience a variety of plays and concerts with an incredible ocean backdrop stretching to Logan Rock headland in the distance. 

For Cornwall’s famous surfing waves, Porthchapel Beach is a short five-minute drive away. Plus, there is plenty of beautiful scenery and attractions on offer with easy reach from this home including, Penzance – a nineteen-minute drive away, and Land’s End – reachable in eight minutes by car. 

In the late afternoon, we would love nothing more than to spend some time in the home’s wrap-around garden, sunbathing on the loungers and enjoying a Cornwall cream tea at the picnic table. Just remember that in Cornwall it's jam then cream. The landscaped garden is also great for family garden games. Plus, there is also offers a barbecue and firepit, making it the ideal spot for cooking and dining alfresco with pastel views.

Don’t be fooled by the ultra-modern, white facade; this place still retains a nod to its heritage with exposed stones from the original fisherman's cottage. In summer, light pours through the large windows and the log burner and underfloor heating keeps you cosy in the colder months. A crisp, white background lets the seaside watercolours on the wall speak for themselves and the big kitchen is more than spacious enough for the buzz of family breakfast time. On sunny days, head out to the wooden deck looking out to sea (with an outdoor heater available), or tuck yourself away on the dining terrace for an alfresco seafood feast from the local fishmonger.

The home faces a quiet lane leading to the centre of the bustling and charming town of St. Ives, where you'll find excellent seafood restaurants, cafés, indie galleries and soft-sanded beaches. Our highlights include wandering through the Tate Gallery, walking barefoot on the beach and watching the sunset with locals in the harbour.

Cornwall is known for its laid-back vibe, and this home gives off just that. You could easily spend your days lounging around this home, but the Cornish west coast is too beautiful to miss. The seaside town of Marazion is just a ten-minute walk away and upon reaching its beach, you'll be doing a double-take as to whether you're really still in the UK. With glistening clear blue seas and white sand beaches, spending the day here is easily done. And for the full experience, we highly recommend a classic Cornish pasty or fish and chips on the beach for a satisfying lunch. 

Return home and wash off the sand in your outdoor shower before enjoying a few drinks in the garden. The barbecue is ready to go to cook up a feast, or you could enjoy a homecooked dinner around the dining table inside if the weather starts to chill. There's nothing more homely than gathering around with family and friends in a Cornish cottage, while the traditional fireplace warms you up from the inside out.

Situated in a private terrace, with no passing traffic, take in the turquoise ocean vistas from the beautiful, sunny terrace, surrounded by pink hydrangeas, with a glass of Cornish fizz. Or head inside, where you'll be greeted with large bay windows – admire the town, harbour and the sparkling sea from here. Our favourite spot has to be the plush velvet window seat in the bedroom. With two living areas and several outdoor spaces, this home is perfect for a family or group of friends looking to spread out. To top it all, there's parking for up to two cars, which is a rare bonus in St. Ives.

The vibrant town centre is a five-minute walk, where you'll find plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. It's the same walking distance to Porthminster Beach, one of St Ives's six beaches – the others are Porthgwidden, Harbour, Porthmeor, Lambeth Walk and Bamaluz – so you're spoilt for choice. For art lovers, the Barbara Hepworth Museum is a seven-minute saunter, while the Tate St Ives is eleven minutes on foot.
