And, if you fancy a day trip, take the fifteen-minute trip over to Penzance to stroll through the historic port town.

Situated in Mousehole, one of Cornwall’s prettiest fishing villages, this cottage is a cosy stay from which to explore the coast and beyond. The interiors are neutral-toned and homespun, with the occasional nod to the abode’s nautical surroundings. Spend late mornings pottering around the kitchen-living space; slather Cornish clotted cream on scones and enjoy with a pot of tea on the sun trap patio. Slip on your sandals and take a stroll along the harbour, just metres from your doorstep. Dip in and out of locally-owned galleries and cafes before settling in with an ice-cool beverage by the water’s edge. When you’re keen to expend a little more energy, lace up your walking shoes and set off on the fifty-four-minute ramble to Lamorna Cove Beach. As soon as hunger bites, take the ten-minute drive to the town of Newlyn for an irresistible selection of seafood restaurants – the Michelin Guide recommended Tolcarne Inn was one of our favourites.

A short walk from the pretty harbour, this home couldn't be more typical of Mousehole if it tried. Once declared 'the loveliest village in England' by Dylan Thomas, 'Mowzul' is an ever-popular place to visit with narrow streets lined with historic cottages. Set over three floors, this former fisherman's loft is Grade II listed and has just the right balance of character features and modern, coastal-inspired styling. On the ground floor, a modern, eat-in kitchen provides everything you'll need for cooking at home, while the comfortable living room upstairs has the home's main entrance, an electric fire and a charming window seat. The top floor bedrooms are pretty special and we particularly love the vaulted ceilings and clever internal porthole windows. From the master bedroom, you can even see across to St Clement's Isle and beyond – what could be better? Stroll to the nearby, shops, cafes and restaurants or drive to Lamorna Cove (ten minutes) or Penzance (fifteen minutes).

Offering plenty of room to spread out and catch up in the living and dining areas, it is a space that provides a sociable ambience or a peaceful setting where the group can take moments of solitude if needed. Perch on the window seat with a good book in hand. Or better still, when the weather is being kind make your way outside to take in the fresh sea air. 

Open up. the patio doors and step out onto the driftwood-decked courtyard with outdoor seating, barbecue and a space to keep surfboards and bikes. While the dreamy ocean views are best seen from the upstairs bedrooms, the tranquil patio garden is a wonderfully secluded spot to make the most of the sunshine in privacy. Then, of course, there is the beach, and an array of pubs, shops and eateries positioned just half a mile away from your central address in Mousehole.

This gorgeous home can be found on the hill behind Mousehole, under a mile away, in the traditional village of Paul. There you’ll find a cosy pub and a 15th-century parish church – if you’re looking for authentic English charm, look no further. It’s in the heart of the Cornish countryside but still close to the coast, making it popular with hikers and surfers alike. We love Sennen beach for the waves, but Penzance is just as easy to get to if you prefer building sandcastles. 

The house has been recently refurbished with much love. Muted hues and natural textiles are key to the style of this laid-back, comfortable home-from-home. When you’re not lounging inside or dining at the farmhouse-style table, you’ll likely be enjoying the fabulous outside space. 

Let the kids tire themselves out playing on the lawn, in the Wendy house, on the swings, or playing table tennis. The barbecue is ready to go to cook up a feast, or you could enjoy a homecooked dinner around the dining table inside if the weather starts to chill. An escape to the seaside is good for the soul – there’s nothing quite like sea air and pretty views. This home can be found just outside of Mousehole, on the edge of the small village of Paul. You’ll wake up to sea views each morning, and also benefit from some real peace and quiet. 

Begin your day with a hearty cooked breakfast served at the twelve-seat dining table. From there you can admire the greenery outside – perhaps you’ll be tempted to follow your meal with a stroll around the orchard. Find a peaceful spot next to the pond and sip your coffee, revelling in the tranquillity. If the weather stops play, there’s always a comfy seat by an open fire – choose from the living room and sitting room, where you’ll also find a piano. Children will love splashing about in the heated indoor swimming pool. 

Of course with a visit to the seaside, you’ll want to spend time near the sea. It takes seven minutes to drive to Newlyn Tolcarne Beach, where you can build sandcastles, paddle and skim stones. Later on in the day, you might drive to Mousehole Harbour – just five minutes away – to admire the boats and tuck into fish and chips. This home was built in 1868 but its location is timeless.

But the real showstopper is the south-facing terrace off the bedroom. Wake up to the sight of Mount's Bay in the morning, then pull up a chair, pour yourself a glass of wine and watch the sunset each evening. When you're ready to venture out, you'll be spoilt for choice, whether you want to kitesurf and paddleboard, grab a bite to eat or sprawl out Marazion Beach (a ten-minute stroll away). And, of course, a trip to Marazion isn't complete without a visit to St Michael's Mount – when the tide is low, you can walk across the causeway to the famous castle in under twenty minutes, but you can always hop on a ferry when the tide rolls in.

Wake to views over the sea and the Jubilee Pool before enjoying an alfresco breakfast on the sunny patio. Should you want to relax before a day of sightseeing, there are plenty of books to enjoy as well as an Xbox 360 in the living room. After ample lounging, make a beeline for the Jubilee Pool (a two-minute walk)  – the UK's biggest and most celebrated art deco seawater lido – or take a stroll along the Penzance Promenade, just one minute away on foot. Penzance Harbour is also a six-minute stroll, while the picturesque fishing village of Mousehole is a nine-minute drive away.

After a day of sea air, come back home and pop a record on as you fire up the barbecue for an alfresco feast under the stars.

Near the picturesque village of Mousehole, this home blows us away with panoramic sea views. Making the most of the good weather is easy when you have multiple seating areas to choose from. Indoors, we love the contemporary design, and that the twin room can be set up for a couple instead. Though the bathtubs offer relaxation, take care not to bump your head on sloped ceilings. You can reach Newlyn on foot, but the well-known Penzance is only a ten-minute drive from here.

The tiny hamlet of Crowlas is home to this rustic stone cottage, located less than a five-minute walk from the village centre. Stepping foot inside this former hay barn, the interiors might surprise you. While the furnishings and the kitchen are wonderfully modern, the wooden stairs and the wood burning stove are gorgeous, rustic features which make the space feel warm and homely. After a windswept day at the beach, coming home will feel like bliss when you can curl up by the fire with a cup of tea. And the flames continue outside. With a fire pit and a barbecue, the kids can roast marshmallows while someone else handles the burgers on the grill. This garden is a stunning spot where you can let the little ones run around – and you can lie back in the sun loungers to enjoy the serenity of the countryside. However, we recommend checking out the fishing village of Padstow, about an hour away. Bounded on two sides by National Trust land, this picture-perfect Cornwall home is in the middle of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – the perfect place to come and get away from it all. You aren't wholly isolated here, though, as the charming local village of Treen has a shop, a cafe and a good, old-fashioned Cornish pub just a two-minute walk away. Also within walking distance is Pedn Vounder Beach, only fifteen minutes away on foot, which is an excellent place to laze in the sand and splash around in the turquoise sea. Built in the 1930s, this idyllic hideaway has been in the host's family for decades, and you can sense that welcoming atmosphere as soon as you step through the front door. Original period features have been beautifully brought back to life, including a gorgeous walnut fireplace with a cosy wood-burning stove. There's plenty of snug seating – whether you want to stretch out, curl up with a book from the library or admire the views – and the kitchen is designed with entertaining in mind. We loved this home’s wooden deck – with stunning sea views, a dining table, barbecue, two loungers and Adirondacks facing the ocean, it’s fully equipped for time well-spent outside. Factor in that you’re less than a ten-minute walk from the beach and you have a real winner. Meander down the South West Coast Path to laidback Sennen Cove with its stretch of golden sand and tropical-blue water. Here Cornish fishermen brush shoulders with tousle-haired surfers. We recommend renting a board and catching a wave – there are two highly-rated surf schools in the area. When you return home, hit the outdoor shower and set your wetsuits to dry in the warm utility room before heading inside, where you’ll find it’s just as lovely as its surroundings – smart and minimal with touches of nautical chic. We especially love the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living area. Kick back on the sofas and play a board game or puzzle all together.
