Breezy and bright, this home has quintessential English seaside written all over it. Whether you're here to top up your tan, hike breathtaking coastal paths or surf Fistral's world-class waves, you couldn't be more perfectly positioned to enjoy everything that Newquay has to offer. On arrival, it's hard to look past the view over the beach. So swing open the French doors, breathe in that sea air and listen to the sounds of the sea – the soundtrack to your stay. We loved the relaxed living spaces that made us nostalgic for childhood holidays to the Cornish coast. It's the ideal spot to sit back with your morning coffee as you plan what to do with your day. Of course, the beach offers something completely different depending on the weather. Blow away the cobwebs on a windy walk, brave a bracing dip, or soak up the sun on the sand. As for the surfing? That's a year-round pursuit. There's no such thing as cold water, just the wrong gear. And there are plenty of local surf shops that can kit you out. Away from the beach, the town beckons with an excellent selection of seafood restaurants and cool cafes with some classic Cornish fare too. Who doesn't love a pasty? Families will love the zoo and aquarium, while couples can enjoy the sunset from the comfort of a contemporary home with views to die for.

Swallow's Hide-Out

Boredom is persona non grata at this wonderful villa on a holiday resort in North Cornwall, thanks to an incredible range of amenities both private and shared that are available for guests to enjoy.

Starting at the home itself, there's a private heated swimming pool, as well as a sauna and hot tub for warming up after a dip. On sunny days, the barbecue is ready and waiting for an alfresco feast, while the cinema room is sure to be appreciated on days when the weather isn't so kind. Aside from all these frivolities, there are all the modern home comforts you could ask for, from a sleek fireplace to the equally contemporary kitchen complete with an island.

Elsewhere on the resort, there's a wave machine so you can practise your surfing, plus a watersports lake with an inflatable volleyball court, obstacle course and equipment for both wakeboarding and paddleboarding. If this sounds a little too active, the spa is sure to sing to you. 

From the site, it's also possible to embark on woodland walks and there are wellington boots provided. The lively beach town of Newquay is only twenty minutes away in the car, too.



Herons

Part of a restored Victorian lighthouse, this home is one of the most unique to be found on the Cornish coast. Spend a peaceful morning watching the fishing boats coming in and out of Padstow – there are almost panoramic views of the sea from the garden. Head down to the nearby Harlyn Bay, a sheltered family beach with a wide crescent of yellow sand, rock pools and safe swimming (a lifeguard is on duty in the summer months). The Eden Project is a thirty-minute drive away, and there are plenty of bistros and cafes nearby, including Rick Stein's seafood restaurant. Evenings can be spent walking the coastal paths lit up by dramatic sunsets. And retreating indoors isn’t so bad either when you have a cosy wood-burning stove to greet you.

Virginia

Experience the magic of the Cornish coast with a stay in this expansive beach house. You’ll be welcomed by sea views, locally sourced art, sculptures and designer furnishings. There’s plenty of space for socialising as well as cosy evenings by the wood burning fire or movie nights in the cinema room. All of the bedrooms come with sea views and three of them feature freestanding bathtubs – perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. Outside, there’s a terrace, a barbecue and a garden path leading directly to Booby's Bay beach. From here, you can join the South West Coastal Path and it’s just a ten-minute drive into Padstow. There's also a golf course right next door. 


Clifftop Retreat

Nestled in Saint Ervan, this charming home serves up the perfect balance of countryside and coast. Set on a working farm, it’s an ideal base for a family on a Cornish retreat, with nature surrounding you yet just a short drive to the coastline. We love all the homely touches, and with a log burner and freestanding tub indoors, and a fire pit and wood-fired hot tub outdoors, you’re spoilt for choice when picking somewhere to unwind at the end of a busy day.

You couldn't ask for a better location for this seaside eco-lodge retreat. Nestled within peaceful farmlands, you'll find five of north Cornwall's most popular sandy beaches within five miles of your door –⁠ starting with Mawgan Porth, just a twenty-minute stroll away.

Follow the woodland path down to the local beach for sandcastle-making, picnics, and, if you time the tide right, surfing – there's a surf school with all the gear. Take a jaunt over to Padstow a twenty-minute drive away and mooch about the shops. Or just hang out back at the farm for the day. Kids will love feeding the chickens and the resident pony. At nightfall, cuddle up under the night sky and catch a shooting star. Located within the Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps dark sky area, stargazing doesn't get much better.

When it's finally time to retreat indoors, the lofty gabled roof, floor-to-ceiling windows, and pristine interiors make quite the first impression. Cuddle up beside the wood burner fire for movie nights – the underfloor heating powered by renewal energy keeps things toasty. 

Porthcothan Cottage

Boasting one of the most sought-after addresses in Newquay, this stunning five-bedroom family home enjoys a spectacular position on the Pentire Peninsula, looking out over the Gannel estuary and towards Crantock Beach.

The entire home is designed to make the most of the spectacular natural riches on your doorstep, with a private path leading down through the garden to the estuary, a sun-soaked slate terrace with loungers set around a plunge pool for sunny days, and a balcony equipped with a barbecue for long summer evenings outdoors. When you combine all this with the awe-inspiring views on offer, you've got a recipe for something truly special.

It's a similar story inside, where floor-to-ceiling panes of glass create light-filled spaces that have been tailored to your family's needs. On the ground floor, a vast multi-purpose living room encourages you to spend cooler evenings gathered together around the fire. Alternatively, make your way downstairs to sit back and relax on the vast U-shaped sofa and make your way through a movie marathon.

Finally, five well-appointed bedrooms offer relaxing refuges to lay your head at the end of the day. However, the main en-suite bedroom – which occupies the entirety of the top floor – is the undoubted stand-out option. With its own balcony and separate seating area, it offers unprecedented privacy away from the hubbub of the floors below.

From here, it’s a short stroll to the beach, while the nearest restaurants, shops and cafes are all within easy reach.
