Set in a former hotel, this home is an excellent choice for exploring some of Cornwall's prettiest corners while avoiding the crowds. It’s a minutes’ drive from the bustling port of Looe, where we love to mosey around the model village, gorge on the catch of the day at a restaurant or perch on the sheltered beach. Polperro is also close by, a ten minutes’ drive away, with its cobbled streets and local pubs. Back at home, you’ll find a relaxing bright environment with beachy vibes. We love the different coloured wood in the kitchenette, the blue tiles in the bathroom and the wicker lamps. The loveseat has a clear nautical theme, perfect for afternoon lounging, while the bed is luxurious and welcoming at the end of the day. Enjoy breakfast at the small wooden table, or outside in finer weather, and map out your plans for the day. For the more adventurous, there are several canoe, kayak and paddleboarding shops in Looe, with the choice to hire or go on a guided tour. Otherwise, hit the gorgeous coastal walking paths, following the cliffs and coastline and even passing a few sheltered little beaches.

It’s in the centre of Looe, just five minutes from the beach and a three-minute walk from the train station. A working fishing town, the immediate area is filled with restaurants and pubs serving the freshest catch of the day and there’s a town beach where soft sand slips into turquoise sea. 

The view from big, Victoriana windows is over the quayside of the East Looe River so you can watch boats putting in and out. This place may look like a grand, Victorian villa on the outside, but inside it’s pristine white and modern with vibrant pops of silky blue. An exposed stone fireplace still sits at the heart of the living room though, where French doors let the natural light stream in. Cook your own catch of the day in the ultra-modern kitchen which is big enough for several chefs to bustle around in.

The real bonus here is the private terrace, which is set with a table and chairs. Overlooking the quayside, this is the perfect spot to share a bottle of something bubbly as the sun goes down over the water.

Order the catch of the day at one of the seafood restaurants in Looe, or wander around Polperro's narrow cobbled streets until you come across a traditional pub. Sandy beaches and clear waters are also a short five-minute drive from home. The two beaches at nearby Talland are lovely for paddling or rock pooling. Further afield, Lantic Bay is only accessible by foot, meaning fewer crowds. For the ultimate relaxation, it's back home for a glass of champagne and an alfresco bath under the stars.

Though this home in Looe is a bit of a climb, we think it's worth it. Once you reach the top of the steep lane, you'll have a magnificent view of the boats bobbing along the East Looe River from the private deck. It's a pretty sight, and thanks to the table and chairs, you'll be able to savour the scenery day or night alongside alfresco meals and evening cocktails. The inside makes the most of the location, too – not only do the Victorian bay windows in the lounge and bedrooms flood the rooms with light, but they also show off the water views. Cooking is anything but a chore in the sleek kitchen - it has everything you need to rustle up a delicious dinner, including a kitchen island for light bites. On rainy days, snuggle up in the living area – there's a DVD player, Netflix, a PS3 for gamers and an array of board games to play – but when the weather is nice, there's no better place to soak up the sun than East Looe Beach. It's an eight-minute walk away, so grab a towel and hit the sand. Also within walking distance are lots of traditional pubs, independent restaurants and local cafes if you're not in the mood to cook, and with the Eden Project just over a half hour's drive away, you'll be well-placed for exploring South East Cornwall.

From up here, you've got a bird's eye view of the estuary, pretty Cornish coastline and the sparkling ocean, and the best spot to take it all in is the sunny roof terrace. Pour yourself a glass of wine (or a glass of juice for the little ones) and relish in the unforgettable sunsets, watching as the tide ebbs and flows. Then, when you've had your fill of the scenery (if that's even possible), make your way downstairs to the country-style kitchen for a family dinner before snuggling up in the sumptuous beds.

With its quaint boutiques and local eateries hiding all sorts of hidden treasures, there's plenty in Fowey to explore. Nearby Readymoney Cove is on the other side of town, surrounded by cliffs that keep it sheltered on windier days. Situated right on the water in pretty Polruan, this cottage is quite a find. The terrace offers panoramic views of boats bobbing on the estuary, making it the perfect place for alfresco dinners and sunset drinks. Inside is utterly charming, with an eat-in kitchen, a cosy lounge with a fireplace, and a trio of comfortable bedrooms. Two can be arranged into twins if needed, and some boast their own waterfront panoramas. As for location, you'll have easy access to two beaches, coastal paths, and the ferry to Fowey. Just be sure to pack comfortable shoes – Polruan's steep hills and narrow streets make driving challenging, so travelling on foot is the best way to explore.

You will be able to enjoy stunning views from every room in this home. However, the waterfront patio here is truly the home’s crowning glory. Enjoy leisurely breakfasts at the picnic table overlooking the harbour and watch the boats pass by or look out across the water to the greenery of the National Trust woodlands.  

After exploring the multi-coloured homes perched on the hillsides of Fowey, leading down to the sea, head home for an evening perched in the living room’s window seat overlooking the river. When it’s fair out, pull on your walking boots and follow the coastline to Lantic Bay, a leisurely thirty-six-minute amble, or hop on the ferry and pootle over to Fowey. Set out on the Hall Walk trail or take it easy and relax on Readymoney Cove Beach, less than a fifteen-minute saunter from your doorstep.

Designed to an incredibly high standard by your host, Alison, the interior feels very in keeping with the seaside locale without ever coming across as a cliche. There's not a deckchair stripe in sight. Instead, you're treated to sculptural driftwood lamps, moody seascape paintings, and a sophisticated palette of deep blues and grey tones that reflect the British weather more accurately than the usual sunshine yellow. If you can bear to leave the home, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest in the immediate vicinity. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. The local community is a healthy mix of all ages who are warm and friendly and adept at making newcomers feel welcome.

Thanks to its elevated and southern facing position, this home benefits from uninterrupted sweeping sea views across the harbour to Readymoney Cove and out to Gribbin Head. 

Cliffbrake welcomes up to eight guests to enjoy this fabulous location, a few metres away from the coastal path to the sandy shores of Lantic Bay – around a thirty-five-minute walk away and an even shorter half a mile stroll to the pub, village shops and ferry port that goes to Fowey. With an abundance of coastal and country walks, we recommend packing comfortable shoes because this area truly is best explored on foot. But we also really wouldn’t blame you if you never wanted to leave this magnificent home. 

After all, the views here are spectacular and made even more picturesque with the boats that sail by. Enjoy these vistas from the terrace while you dine al fresco, or from the sunroom, the dining room and the cosy living area when the weather is being less kind. You needn't worry about missing out on the views from the other rooms of the home, as you'll even get to lap up them up from upstairs in the bedrooms too.

Is there anything more soothing for the soul than strolling along the seafront, feeling the sea breeze in your hair? We’re passionate about coastal escapes, so as far as we’re concerned, a trip to Cornwall’s beautiful Fowey is always a good idea. And that good idea is made great by staying at this truly lovely home. 

The house is spread over three floors, with a ground-floor apartment in addition to a roomy second- and third-floor home – this is the perfect base for two separate families travelling together. You can gather together as much as you like, but when you need your own space it’s all there for you. We think the ground floor would be perfect for grandparents, while parents and little ones can spread out upstairs. 

You can look forward to wonderful views here. You’ll be able to admire boats sailing by from the kitchen window, and enjoy views of Fowey as you relax in the bath. Sit out on the terrace and take in the vista over to Polruan, ideally while sipping a chilled glass of wine. 

Readymoney Cove is just ten minutes away on foot, so make sure you bring your bucket and spade. Paddle in the water, skim stones or tuck into piping hot fish and chips on the sand. The harbour is just three minutes away, with its bevy of pretty boats. However you spend your time in Fowey, you’ll be delighted to have such a cosy and convenient space to call home.

The view from this seaside home has to be one of the best in Looe – overlooking the sandy beach and as close to the sea as it gets. Split over two floors, it's a large and practical apartment with a balcony and plenty of room for a family or group of friends. And with the beach just steps from your door, we imagine you'll be out there for morning walks, afternoons of sandcastle building and maybe even evening paddles.

Inside, you'll have two bedrooms and two bathrooms on the entrance level, meaning there's an upside-down arrangement here – allowing the main bedroom and living room to benefit from the best views. Open and bright, the living space upstairs has comfy seating, a dining table and doors out to the balcony. Shades of blue, white and grey reflect the view outside and they're continued into the kitchen, where a large hatch keeps everything nice and sociable at meal times. 

Here you'll also be just a short walk from Looe's many restaurants, tea rooms and shops, with the working fishing harbour on your doorstep and boat trips out to the nearby island. And there's lots to explore within an hour's drive too, from Plymouth's aquarium to the Eden Project.  

Edge of the Sand

The view from this period apartment in Fowey has to be seen to be believed. Step out onto its little balcony, complete with wrought iron railings, and you can look left towards the harbour, straight across the estuary to Polruan and right out to sea. A superb coastal viewpoint, sitting out here over breakfast, coffee, dinner or a glass of wine, is going to be your new obsession. At the top of an imposing seafront building, it's a fully modernised home perfect for a couple, friends or a small family. 

We'll start in the open-layout living room, decorated in blues and whites – a reflection of the view outside. There's a comfy, L-shaped velvet sofa, a little dining nook by the patio doors and a superb, modern kitchen with a breakfast bar. Elsewhere, a beautifully styled main bedroom has a window seat overlooking the water and an en-suite shower room, while we particularly love the freestanding bath in the main bathroom.

Just a short walk or drive from the centre of town, you'll have a great choice of shops, restaurants and pubs on your doorstep, and the beach at Readymoney Cove is just a matter of minutes away too.

Within Waters Reach there is an exquisite villa that overlooks the River Fowey. Inspired by the home’s Victorian roots, the interior design uses classic brick-laid fireplaces, beautifully traditional sofas, and a delightful curation of artwork to create an elegant and graceful space. Even more, with windows that have river views, this home boasts tranquility. There is a modern, open-plan kitchen that is fully-equipped with everything you will need to cook up delicious homegrown meals. Two homely bedrooms have deluxe double beds, while a larger master bedroom has a super-king sized bed as well as an en-suite. The villa is located right by the river, meaning you will be able to enjoy all the nearby riverfront cafes and restaurants, or perhaps fill your days with some water-sport adventures! 

Waters Reach

The elevated position of Mercurial Tides gives you incredible sweeping views of the ocean, so you can settle in with a cocktail and watch the colourful sunset from your living room or your patio every evening. When you’re feeling adventurous you can explore the stunning coastal trail that passes right near your home, or try out some fishing or watersports. Looe Bay really is a stone’s throw from your front door, and there are also countless other beaches to explore up and down the coast. The village you look over from the balcony, with its pubs, shops and restaurants, is also a very short walk away.

The Cornish fishing town of Looe is on your doorstep here in this wonderfully bright apartment with stunning views over Looe Bay.

Sitting atop a hill, an endless stretch of water can be seen from the front terrace that beckons sunset aperitifs, off the open-plan living area, as well as from the triple aspect windows around the elegant dining table.

The comfortable bedroom also boasts fantastic vistas, allowing you to fall asleep to the gentle murmur of the distant sea and wake up to the sun rising above its glittering horizon. 

When you’re ready to explore, make your way down to Looe Harbour (an eighteen-minute walk) where boats bring in all the fresh fish that finds its way onto the menus of the nearby harbour-side restaurants and award-winning fish and chip shops. Alternatively, grab your towel and head to the sands of East Looe Beach (a twenty-minute walk) and attempt to ride the waves with the help of an instructor from one of the nearby surf schools. With the famous South West Coast Path just a two-minute stroll from your door as well, there’s no end to the Cornish seaside delights in store.
