Most tourists make a beeline for the Cornish coast – but little do they know that this beloved landscape is home to another beautiful feature, the Fal River. The surroundings here are slightly different, where green pasture gives way to mixed woodland and small pebbled riverside beaches. For a unique and unforgettable experience, stay in this operational lighthouse on the furthest point of Cornwall’s Roseland Peninsula. The sea views are second-to-none, whether that’s from the sunny patio or the detached observation room – complete with a fireplace for cosy storm watching. Seeing as this lighthouse is operational, expect to hear automatic fog signal on misty nights and see maintenance people from time to time. Other than that, the cottage is private with no public access. You’ll park in the National Trust car park – it’s a 300-metre steep path down to the cottage from there. Guests should also be aware that the home isn't suitable for children under 14, including babies. But there's a lot to love here. You even have easy access to a beautiful beach.

In the sleepy village of Malpas you'll find a fantastic local pub, as well as a farm shop and tea room all within easy walking distance. Lace up your walking boots and take advantage of some excellent country walks right from your doorstep, plus regular boat tours from the marina out to nearby locations, including the bustling nearby town of Falmouth, the Trelissick Gardens or the beautiful port of St. Mawes. There's even a ferry nearby that can take you and your car over the river to the Roseland Peninsula. Getting out to explore the area, you’ll find the Roseland Heritage Coast AONB a ten-minute drive for clifftop coastal walks, and the buzzing beach of Falmouth is a twenty-minute drive.

Just over a mile from the village of Stithians, down by the River Kennall, this stone cottage is set in the 7-acre land surrounding an old farmhouse. But despite its incredibly rural setting, staying here is far from the rustic experience you might expect. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Upon arrival, your host will warmly welcome you with a hamper full of luxury Cornish fare and home-baked goods to start your holiday right. While you nibble and sip, you can start exploring the cosy home. Fluffy rugs, plush sofas, and wooden floors create a sense of warmth and softness in the living space, but floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outside in. And the great outdoors are particularly great in this case. Under the wooden decking, get ready to pop champagne and soak in the hot tub. Or perhaps you’d rather recline on the outdoor sofas by the wood-burner, have a barbecue, or play a few rounds of table tennis? As you’re just a fifteen-minute drive to Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth, you’ll also need to pack a picnic one day and head for the shore (don’t forget to grab the beach towels that your host kindly provides).

Perched close to the Cornish coastline, it's possible to gaze out at peaceful vistas of Swanpool lagoon or Falmouth Bay, depending on which of the floor-to-ceiling windows you're standing next to at any given moment. The best spot at the address, however, has to be the covered balcony, from which you can enjoy the coastal panorama with a sea breeze on your skin.

One added benefit of all this glass is the copious amount of natural light that it lets into the home and this asset is emphasised by the preference for stark white in the walls and the kitchen's sleek surfaces. The home's design is definitely shaped by contemporary minimalism, which will really sing to those who have no time for nautical kitsch found in plenty of local properties.

Anyone looking to catch up on work, can do so at the dedicated desk up stairs, but something about this home might make you want to do as little as possible so you can instead kindle the fire, put your feet up, and relax and recharge.

If you like the idea of going eco-friendly for a while but don't want to completely give up on comforts, this cosy barn powered by renewable energy could just be a happy compromise. 

The renovated cob and stone property sits within six acres of idyllic riverside woodland and is built out of natural materials, including oak, lime, cob, pigmented clay plaster and locally sourced slate. Inside, there are a few rustic features, such as the exposed stonework and wood-burning fireplace, but otherwise, it's undeniably contemporary thanks to the conservatory, sleek kitchen and pristine bathrooms. The fact that it's powered by a wind turbine and a heat pump is pretty impressive, too.

Given the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding grounds, you'll be happy to hear that there's a natural swimming pool close to the home — shared only with the host, who lives on the site, and one other barn — as well as a barbecue and some spots for an alfresco feast. 

Although it feels like you're in splendid isolation at this address, you can head back to civilisation pretty swiftly if you wish. The town of Truro takes a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, while Perranporth Beach on the north and south Cornish coastlines can be reached in just under twenty-five.

Occupying an enviable position overlooking the Cornish coast, this elegant home has views to die for. Our preferred way to enjoy the vista is with a cup of tea in the garden as you watch the sailboats floating by below. The house is situated on a private footpath that leads you to the sea in a couple of minutes. If you're in the mood for an adventure, there are plenty of watersports options and boat rental that your helpful hosts can help you arrange. The village amenities of St Mawes harbour are within a few minutes on foot should you need to stock up on essentials. However, if you can tear yourself away from that view, you're just a twenty-minute ferry crossing from the vibrant university town of Falmouth. For a different atmosphere, you're a short drive from picturesque fishing villages like Portscatho and Portloe. After a day on the water or exploring the local area, return to a catered candlelit dinner looking out over the sea (available at an additional cost) before cosying up around the log-burning stove and curling up with a book and a glass of wine.

Fresh from an appearance in June 2021's issue of 25 Beautiful Homes magazine, this coastal Cornish home is more than ready to be the setting for a memorable holiday. Attention to detail can be seen in every corner of this home, with only natural products used for cleaning, and even the bed linens are made from 100% natural materials. The nautical-themed interior design is inescapably cosy, especially in the living room with the log-burning fireplace and a big bay window that looks out over Percuil River. If you want to see this gorgeous view a little closer, simply step outside onto the home's private terraces, which feature a swimming pool, loungers and a table for alfresco suppers - plus a private riverside beach. There's a ping-pong table and trampoline to keep youngsters entertained, but there's also an impressive four-monitor WFH set-up in case there are emails that can't wait. However, be sure to finish up as soon as possible, because there's so much to see and do in the local area, too. By request you can have someone take you out on the hosts' boat, moored at the home. Summers Beach is only four minutes' walk away, although there are plenty of other coastal destinations easily reachable in the car. The harbour town of St Mawes takes a few minutes to reach on foot and has delicatessens, restaurants and a castle waiting to be explored.

Brimming with original artwork and oozing charm, this coastal cottage is a real knock-out. We love every inch, from the inviting living space to the sumptuous bedroom. It's snug, but that's what makes it so cosy, and for a small space, it sure is packed with personal touches. Egyptian cotton sheets, electric fireplace, fluffy bathrobes, beach essentials, a welcome basket overflowing with breakfast items – your host has all the little details taken care of. As much as we adore the lovely kitchen, our favourite spot has to be the rustic courtyard. Dotted with olive trees and surrounded by leafy potted plants, it's the perfect place for morning coffees, alfresco dinners and evening tipples as the sun goes down. As far as locations go, this home is close to everything – it's only a ten-minute walk to Gyllyngvase Beach and five minutes to the restaurants, shops and pubs along the waterfront. While there's private parking on-site, you won't need the car for much. Don your comfiest shoes and set off on foot instead, exploring Falmouth's coastal walks, art galleries and cafes with ease.

Inside, the rooms are just as enticing with locally sourced art, a wood burning fire and plenty of home comforts to ensure optimum relaxation. Your host provides a starter supply of logs and a welcome hamper. Plus, you’ll be perfectly placed for walks along the South-West Coastal Path and there are plenty of opportunities for water sports in St Anthony.

Set in a large, secluded garden between St Mawes castle and the village harbour, Penolva comes from the Cornish word meaning ‘lookout on the headland’. It’s one of very few homes in the village with a private waterfront, and because of that, it has some of the best views around. It was built in the sixties by a friend of the Queen Mother, Dick Wilkins, and it’s reported that the Royal family used to visit Wilkins at the home while on excursions from HMY Brittania. That’s pretty good pedigree. The home has been done up recently, and now showcases a great selection of British art. The views, however, are framed by the windows in such a way that they might as well be the paintings. On top of that, host Amanda goes the extra mile to ensure that your stay is special. She’s thought of every possibility, from providing board games to keep you entertained on rainy days, to running a bespoke concierge service. However, there are so many ways to let loose here. The conservatory, for example, has a billiards table, disco ball and sound system, and there's also table tennis that can be set up in the rear hall or courtyard. On sunny days, the patio with its barbecue and alfresco dining area will naturally be the place to be, but there's also the option to slip away from the crowds for a dip in the outdoor hot tub, complete with candles and LED lighting.

Your hosts have paid close attention to each and every element within the home, leading to a final result that is nothing short of breathtaking. A dual aspect sunroom on the first floor is the main social space and where we imagine you'll spend most of your time. 

Being encased in glass allows guests to get in touch with nature come rain or shine, while the adjacent balcony is perfect for a sunny afternoon cuppa overlooked by the resident donkeys in the next-door field.

A well-equipped kitchen is situated towards the back of the room and is more than capable of doing justice to any delicious local produce that you happen to pick up on your travels.

Head downstairs to the ground floor and unearth a gorgeous king-size bedroom, complete with a luxurious en-suite that includes an elegant freestanding bath and a spacious walk-in shower. 

Despite occupying a secluded spot in the middle of the countryside, the home is actually very well placed to explore the best of this spectacular county. Surfing hotspots including Newquay, Perranporth and Gwithian are no more than half an hour's drive. At the same time, the picturesque coastal town of St Ives offers fantastic food and high culture (courtesy of Tate St Ives), twenty-six miles away.

This cosy bungalow on Cornwall's northern coast is the perfect base for exploring as much or as little of this remarkable region as you please. Beautiful beaches, dramatic cliffs and stunning sunsets all await you in this charming county. Idyllic locations such as Padstow and St Ives can be reached in less than an hour, and the famed Eden Project is just a forty-five minute drive away.
 
On the other hand, Holywell Bay has one of the most beautiful beaches in the county. You’ll be pleased to know it's only a five-minute walk from your door, where alongside stunning scenery, you’ll find a gorgeous coastal path, and a handful of charming beachside cafes and eateries. Refuel on local produce at the Gull Rocks Bar & Coffee House at the beach’s entrance after an afternoon spent splashing about, and take in the stunning vistas afforded by its prime location. The Treguth Inn, hailing back to the thirteenth century also awaits just five minutes away, while several more traditional pubs and desirable restaurants can be found within a fifteen-minute drive. The choice is all yours. 

A short twenty-minute drive away is the Gannel Estuary, which separates neighbouring Crantock village from Newquay. Have a go at canoeing in the estuary, or try your hand at paddle-boarding over in Crantock. On quieter days, why not go for fish and chips followed by some ice cream in idyllic fishing villages such as Mevagissey, Mousehole or Gorran Haven, all within an hour's drive? Whatever you choose to do, you won't be short of fun.
  
Of course, such is the high-quality amenities, you don't even need to leave the house. An open living area is blessed with natural light and plenty of space, perfect for social evenings.
