Set in a former hotel, this home is an excellent choice for exploring some of Cornwall's prettiest corners while avoiding the crowds. It’s a minutes’ drive from the bustling port of Looe, where we love to mosey around the model village, gorge on the catch of the day at a restaurant or perch on the sheltered beach. Polperro is also close by, a ten minutes’ drive away, with its cobbled streets and local pubs. Back at home, you’ll find a relaxing bright environment with beachy vibes. We love the different coloured wood in the kitchenette, the blue tiles in the bathroom and the wicker lamps. The loveseat has a clear nautical theme, perfect for afternoon lounging, while the bed is luxurious and welcoming at the end of the day. Enjoy breakfast at the small wooden table, or outside in finer weather, and map out your plans for the day. For the more adventurous, there are several canoe, kayak and paddleboarding shops in Looe, with the choice to hire or go on a guided tour. Otherwise, hit the gorgeous coastal walking paths, following the cliffs and coastline and even passing a few sheltered little beaches.

Oak Meadow Rest

Affording exceptional views of England's green and pleasant land from the living room, this family studio is perfect for those looking to get away from city life and explore the lush, undulating countryside of Cornwall. It overlooks the scenic Oaklands Park, and is just a ten-minute drive from Polperro Beach and East Looe Beach. Situated in a former hotel, the apartment itself is embellished by beautiful raw-wood in and around the kitchenette and living room. It has three beds in total – a king for parents and twins for children – all with super-soft 400-thread count linen. Perfect for resting those weary legs after hiking through the Cornish country.

Rustic Vista

If you’re looking for a bohemian escape in Cornwall, then look no further. This rustic hideaway is perfect for a solo traveller or a couple looking to get in touch with the raw beauty of the Cornish countryside and who care most about the luxuries of the soul – great music, fantastic light, the roar of the waves. This snazzy barn conversion has bucketloads of character and soulful perks, including a piano, a record player with a vast collection of vinyl, and its own mini sauna. Throw in the super-king sized bed, a brand new bathroom (with bathtub) and kitchen, its location (snuggled away in ancient woodland), the fact that it’s just a five-minute drive to the nearest pub and beach at Crackington Haven, and you’ve got a rural retreat you’ll want to keep quiet about, so you can keep it for yourself. 

Musician's Escape

Situated right on the water in pretty Polruan, this cottage is quite a find. The terrace offers panoramic views of boats bobbing on the estuary, making it the perfect place for alfresco dinners and sunset drinks. Inside is utterly charming, with an eat-in kitchen, a cosy lounge with a fireplace, and a trio of comfortable bedrooms. Two can be arranged into twins if needed, and some boast their own waterfront panoramas. As for location, you'll have easy access to two beaches, coastal paths, and the ferry to Fowey. Just be sure to pack comfortable shoes – Polruan's steep hills and narrow streets make driving challenging, so travelling on foot is the best way to explore.

Cornish Reveries

"Enchanted Haven" is a large, beautifully renovated house situated in the heart of Mevagissey. Nestled in a quiet location, just 300 meters from the sea and 400 meters from the beach, this four-story property offers an excellent mix of convenience and tranquility. Step outside and find yourself immersed in a charming seaside village, with shops, cafes, pubs, and restaurants all within walking distance. Inside, the house boasts modern and tasteful furnishings spread across seven spacious rooms. With its open dining room and large kitchen that leads to the garden terrace, "Enchanted Haven" is perfect for gatherings with loved ones. The upper floors offer comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, providing both coziness and privacy. Whether you're exploring the nearby attractions like Lost Gardens of Heligan or simply enjoying a peaceful stroll along the South West Coast Path, this unique hideaway promises relaxation and serenity for your holiday retreat.

The Whimsical Retreat

Most tourists make a beeline for the Cornish coast – but little do they know that this beloved landscape is home to another beautiful feature, the Fal River. The surroundings here are slightly different, where green pasture gives way to mixed woodland and small pebbled riverside beaches. This characterful, quintessentially Cornish cottage dates back to the 1800s and provides perfect panoramic views over these stunning vistas, with three separate outside seating areas to choose from. Watch the sailboats float by as you lie on the garden bed, or have breakfast on the terrace while waving to a passing paddle-boarder – the river is never far away, and you can even view the shimmering water from your double bed. Trelissick is just a twenty-minute drive away, and Swanpool Beach is a sandy cove half an hour away, beside Swanpool Nature Reserve. After all that exploring, stop at the local inn three doors down for a pint before heading home to play a board game in front of the cosy log burner. 

Fal River Cottage

Be your own Lord and Lady of the Manor at this bucolic cottage tucked away on the grounds of a Georgian stately home in Cornwall.

With a spread of deer parklands and lakes (wild swimming and paddle boarding, anyone?) on your doorstep, there’s heaps to keep you busy here. Channel the good life, collecting fresh eggs and picking vegetables from the kitchen garden. Up the ante with tennis on the court or table tennis in the games barn, which you’ll share with the other four homes dotted about the grounds. Or simply lose yourself to the expansive landscaped gardens seeking out the historical monuments along the way.

When the Cornish coast comes calling, take your pick from the north and south coast – you’re perched between them both. Our vote goes to Polperro Beach (a 15.4 kilometre drive) for bucket and spade days or, for a little more bustle, an afternoon in Fowey is just the ticket.

Back home, those pretty arched windows and clapboard vaulted ceilings are the stars of the show here. Look elsewhere, and you’ll uncover thoughtful touches like freshly-cut flowers and a welcome hamper filled with goodies in the shaker-style kitchen to make your stay unique. While over in the restful bedrooms, each with en-suites, you can tell an interior designer has been working their magic with modern floral textiles nailing the British eccentric style. And the icing on the cake? That suntrap, private terrace surrounded by blooming flowers to while away the long summer nights.

Out in Bloom

The whimsical feel of this home is palpable – it’s the kind of space that enriches daily living with its artistic beauty. And with views across the historic harbour of Charlestown, this is the perfect setting for an immersive retreat by the sea. 

Sheltered by sculpted gardens, this Georgian Grade II listed villa has all the qualities of an artist’s sanctuary. With an eye for exceptional design and craftsmanship, the owners have styled each room with objects that inspire a sense of wonder and curiosity. And wherever you find yourself in this home, there’s something beautiful to admire. 

From preparing your morning coffee in the kitchen to reading by the window, there’s a warmth and depth to this villa that makes you want to settle in and stay. No doubt the sea views will inspire you to explore – it’s just a short walk to the beach and you’ll find a lovely cafe, deli, pub and wine bar around the quay in Charlestown. And if you feel like exploring the surrounding countryside, the Eden Project and the lost gardens of Heligan are less than a twenty–minute drive away.

And when the sun begins to set over the horizon, you’ll love walking into this charming home – the oak dining table is a special place to gather for a candlelit dinner. 

The Marine Pearl

More a way of life than a holiday home, this unique stay offers a wealth of outdoor activities and add-on experiences. Aimed at families who like to get out into the fresh air, it's a fabulous country house in an idyllic rural setting. Right on the River Avon, it's the perfect spot for wild swimming with a rope swing and river plunge pool in the garden. Set in its own pretty grounds, the rustic farmhouse can trace its roots back to the 12th century and has plenty of character. Stone floors, oak beams and fireplaces are topped off with comfy furnishings and a lived-in, home from home feel. We love the living room with its exposed stone wall and cosy sofas around the fire. Bedrooms are all of a good size and even the bathrooms are stylish. Ideal for a large family group, you can cook meals in the country kitchen and serve them at the huge dining table, or barbecue outside on the Argentinian grill on warmer evenings. If the lure of the water has called you here, you can spend days playing in the river, or hop into the twelve-man hot tub. Head off for walks nearby or just let the kids bounce on the trampoline while you sit back with a cold beer on the sun loungers. Other add-ons include sea fishing with the host and taking time out in the log-fired sauna in the grounds. And it's just a short drive to Kingsbridge and the coast if you fancy a change of scene.

River Dipping

This upper-floor apartment is a great getaway for a family with young children. The cabin bedroom may not be well-suited for adults, but doubling up as another TV room, it’ll most likely be the little ones' favourite area of the home. The pad also boasts a lovely terrace, which guests can make the most of on those sunny Cornish days. From here, you have panoramic views of the picturesque town of Fowey and the river, which are easily accessible thanks to the central location.

A Voyage to the Sea 

Once part of the Lanhydrock Estate, this recently converted barn sports a contemporary look and plenty of modern comforts without losing any of its traditional charm. Original timber beams and exposed stone walls hark back to the barn's heyday, but the electric car charging point, rainfall shower and Sonos speakers are just a few of the 21st-century updates. This is the perfect spot for a family to unwind in the Cornish countryside. While parents rustle up a meal in the kitchen, kids can hang out in their own room, playing on the Xbox One. On summer evenings, everyone will enjoy a barbecue in the courtyard before retreating inside to the cosy living area for a movie night, but when the weather turns nippy, cuddle up by the log burner instead. There's plenty to get up to in the local area, too. You're almost equidistant from both the North and South coasts of Cornwall. Spend a day at the beach in Padstow or visit historic Charlestown, both of which are less than a forty-minute drive away. For those who enjoy long country ambles, Cardinham Woods is just five miles away and offers plenty of walking and cycling trails. After a stroll in the fresh air, finish the day with a coffee at the pet-friendly woodland cafe or a pint at one of the pubs in nearby Bodmin.
