Situated between Newquay and Padstow, on the breathtaking North Cornwall coast, this spectacular seaside retreat is far enough away to avoid the summer crowds yet close enough to offer easy access to both of these popular resorts.

Boasting five bedrooms, the home can comfortably accommodate up to ten guests (eight adults and two children), making it perfect for getaways with multi-generational families and groups of friends. Elsewhere, a plethora of both indoor and outdoor seating options ensure there's always a corner to claim as your own. 

Make the most of warm summer days out on the wooden deck, with plenty of space for your kids to play on the swing and slide set in the safety of the enclosed garden. Alternatively, there's a conservatory spanning the front of the house, offering those same sought-after sea views out of the elements. Finally, a games room and a snug ensure an array of entertainment options come rain or shine.

A gate at the end of the garden leads out to a footpath down to the golden sands of the Sunday Times award-winning Mawgan Porth beach, which is particularly popular with families. The fact it's west-facing makes it popular with surfers of all abilities, though more advanced watermen will probably want to test their mettle down at nearby Fistral. Meanwhile, foodies will find plenty to tantalise their tastebuds in Padstow, less than ten miles away.

Pawprints in the Sand

Set out over two floors united by considered design, downstairs, you’ll find three airy, luminous bedrooms with contemporary en-suites and a cosy cinema room for movie nights. Head upstairs and things keep getting better, with a further bedroom offering up direct access to the landscaped gardens. But for us, the clear standout feature has to be the palatial living area and kitchen with incredible views of the distant fields rolling into the glistening sea. This space is best served with the patio doors slid right back to let the sunshine in as you come together for lazy breakfasts around the dining table. And when the sea comes calling, you won’t have far to go. The two-mile-long surfing beach at Watergate Bay with a buzzy cafe and restaurant is a mere ten-minute walk away. Or for a change of pace, Padstow is just ten miles north, and The Eden Project is a thirty-minute drive away. Just be sure to make it home for dusk to fire up the barbecue and enjoy the ultimate post-surf relaxation in the sauna and hot tub. With the views of the setting sun in the distance, there is no better place to be.

Bay Watch

If coastal walking is your thing, look no further. With the Gannel estuary, rugged coastal paths and the craggy Pentire Penninsula on your doorstep, this home is awash with a low-key, British seaside atmosphere. The buzz of Newquay beckons – stroll fifteen minutes or drive into town for fresh seafood restaurants, cosy pubs serving classic Cornish fare and independent boutiques, or wander ten minutes to Fistral Beach and sprawl out on the sand. From the incredible sun deck, private freestanding tub and the beach barbecue area to the roaring wood burner in the living room, this home is perfectly set up to make the most of its enviable location, whatever the weather. 

The open-plan kitchen and dining room is decorated in white, with plenty of blonde wood that serves to remind you of the beach. There's a wood burner to keep you cosy on blustery days, while there are French doors that lead out onto a large decking area that can be flung open when the sun's out.

Elsewhere in the home, uncover a soothing colour palette of greens, blues and oranges that echo the breathtaking sea views and jaw-dropping sunsets that you'll witness from the west-facing terrace. It's a theme that continues through to the tranquil bedrooms including the main room's stylish Soho House bed. In addition to a fantastic night's sleep on the comfy mattress, this room also benefits from a private patio complete with a freestanding tub – perfect for sunset pampering sessions with a glass of wine.

Porth View

With a prime location right on Newquay's famous Tolcarne Beach, this bright, beautiful home is the ideal base for a family or group of friends looking for a seaside holiday in the UK. Your hosts have certainly made the perfect spot to relax in, with a light-filled living space benefitting from nautical decor and comfy, neutral furniture. But, while the house itself will soon have you feeling all warm and cosy inside, we suspect you'll be here for the beach, which is just a 300m stroll over the Tankerton slopes. From here – this charming, coastal village offers a tumble of cheery cafes, indie shops and gourmet restaurants to sink your teeth into. After exploring the beach, you’ll relish a soak in the spa-style tub, or for a magical end to the day, grab a glass of wine and head out to your private patio. Feel the calm ocean breeze wash right over you, as you dine alfresco or snuggle up in front of the fireplace for an evening in. 

Seashells & Pearls

Experience the magic of the Cornish coast with a stay in this expansive beach house. You’ll be welcomed by sea views, locally sourced art, sculptures and designer furnishings. Perfectly set up for a family of four or a group of friends, the two en-suite bedrooms can be set up in either a double or twin configuration for ultimate flexibility. The ground-floor living space offers more than enough space for everyone to relax together by the fire, while the floor-to-ceiling doors slide back to reveal a vast terrace. 

We can think of little better than flitting between the private hot tub and sauna after an afternoon stroll around the lakes, laying out in the sun on the reclining chairs and barbecuing up a mouthwatering meal to enjoy at the table as you watch the local wildlife going about its day. The resort also boasts an indoor heated pool and a health club where you can indulge in a pampering session. Finally, on those evenings you really don't feel like cooking, the LookOut restaurant has you covered.

Away from the resort, the picturesque harbour town of Padstow is just eight miles away. Here, you'll find celebrated restaurants by the likes of Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth that are well worth a visit. Elsewhere, the UK's surfing mecca of Newquay is just twenty minutes away, where you'll find waves to suit all abilities. And if the surf's not pumping, then there's always the FlowRider wave machine back at the resort to hone your skills.

The Sandpiper

After a hearty lunch, head to the glistening water and golden sands of Crantock Beach – just a kilometre away. The crystal clear water and family-friendly atmosphere makes it a mecca for budding surfers traversing the water.

Crystal Waves

Step into this achingly romantic wooden hut in St Kew, Cornwall, for a whirlwind getaway unlike any other. Spend a day at charming Port Isaac, or hop on your bike to take on the Camel Trail – and don't forget to stop in at the country pub across the lane on your way home. 

A New Belonging

Hidden away within the farmlands of Watergate Bay in gorgeous North Cornwall, this charming former barn is a mere seven-minute drive from Newquay Beach. In this traditional stone building, the interiors carefully balance rustic elements of the former farm with elegant, modern sensibilities. You can’t help but immediately notice the vast, high ceilings and thick beams welcoming you to the living space. Its chunky, wooden dining bench is ideal for gathering everyone around with a glass of red wine to say cheers to the start of the holiday. From the open-plan lounge, fitted with a bespoke log burning fire, you can enjoy sweeping views of rolling green fields from the picturesque Juliet balcony. And on warm summer nights, head out to the large terrace and light up the barbecue. On your second patio, you’ll find a sun-drenched spot with comfy loungers for reclining and soaking up the sun. It’s also a perfect pad for surf fans, with an outdoor shower and a board storage area round the back. After riding the waves on the Cornish coast, there’s nothing better than coming home and cosying up by the fire with a tumbler of whisky in hand.

Oat & Treacle

With beautiful views over Watergate Bay, this apartment is the perfect place for a small family or couple of friends to escape to the seaside. Located just four hundred metres from the beach, you get the best of both worlds staying here – enjoy wonderful vistas and waterfront access without any of the crowds. Or spend the day exploring the surrounding area – Watergate Bay is nestled between Padstow and Newquay, so there are excellent options for an afternoon out and about.

Grey Seal

Nestled on the Cornish coast within walking distance of Newquay's iconic Fistral Beach, this tranquil home has been designed for total relaxation.
