Scallop Cottage can sleep eight guests and even welcomes up to two dogs, making it a fantastic choice for a friendly family or a bunch of friends keen on escaping on a coastal holiday. Enjoy sweeping views through the large picture windows in the living room, prepare delicious meals in the country kitchen, or bask in the sunshine of your private backyard as you take in the boats of the marina bobbing with the tide of the waves. Weather permitting, we encourage you to take your meals alfresco or make your way down to the marina for a wonderful meal out. You could sneak in through the back at this apartment in a Regency manor, but that would take away from the grand entrance worthy of a Jane Austen heroine. Sashaying through the double doors and across the marble floor, past the stone fireplace, you come to your abode. It’s in the old ballroom of the manor, and the floor-to-ceiling bays windows and gilded mirrors haven’t changed since the days of swishing gowns and music from the pianoforte (indeed, there’s still a grand piano in here). 

Rather than a bandstand, there’s now a kitchen at the head of the ballroom, and if you prefer your evenings slightly more intimate, a book-lined snug with a plush velvet sofa awaits in the bedroom. We love the hand-carved antique bed, waiting to see you off to the land of nod.

There are acres of grounds to explore on the estate, but if you want to get out and see the Cornish coast, it’s just a ten-minute drive to the beaches of St Ives Bay. The gallery-filled old fishing town of St Ives itself is just twenty minutes by car.

Just over a mile from the village of Stithians, down by the River Kennall, this stone cottage is set in the 7-acre land surrounding an old farmhouse. But despite its incredibly rural setting, staying here is far from the rustic experience you might expect. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Upon arrival, your host will warmly welcome you with a hamper full of luxury Cornish fare and home-baked goods to start your holiday right. While you nibble and sip, you can start exploring the cosy home. Fluffy rugs, plush sofas, and wooden floors create a sense of warmth and softness in the living space, but floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outside in. And the great outdoors are particularly great in this case. Under the wooden decking, get ready to pop champagne and soak in the hot tub. Or perhaps you’d rather recline on the outdoor sofas by the wood-burner, have a barbecue, or play a few rounds of table tennis? As you’re just a fifteen-minute drive to Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth, you’ll also need to pack a picnic one day and head for the shore (don’t forget to grab the beach towels that your host kindly provides).

This beautiful Grade II-listed Georgian Manor House in the heart of Cornwall is perfect for large gatherings and celebrations. Tucked away among thirty acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, there are plenty of woodland paths, ponds and rolling hills for adults and children alike to enjoy. Gyllyngvase Beach takes less than twenty minutes to reach in the car as well. Alternatively, you could use the large lawn at the front of the home for a friendly game of croquet or cricket. Inside, you’ll be blown away by the high ceilings, snug drawing rooms and period-inspired furnishings that will bring a touch of elegance to your holiday. However, there are so many ways to let loose here. The conservatory, for example, has a billiards table, disco ball and sound system, and there's also table tennis that can be set up in the rear hall or courtyard. On sunny days, the patio with its barbecue and alfresco dining area will naturally be the place to be, but there's also the option to slip away from the crowds for a dip in the outdoor hot tub, complete with candles and LED lighting.

Some homes are designed around a view and this is one of them. Perched close to the Cornish coastline, it's possible to gaze out at peaceful vistas of Swanpool lagoon or Falmouth Bay, depending on which of the floor-to-ceiling windows you're standing next to at any given moment. The best spot at the address, however, has to be the covered balcony, from which you can enjoy the coastal panorama with a sea breeze on your skin.

One added benefit of all this glass is the copious amount of natural light that it lets into the home and this asset is emphasised by the preference for stark white in the walls and the kitchen's sleek surfaces. The home's design is definitely shaped by contemporary minimalism, which will really sing to those who have no time for nautical kitsch found in plenty of local properties.

As a glimpse out the windows will tell you, the sea isn't all too far away – in fact, you can be standing on the sands of Swanpool beach in under five minutes' walk. This seaside spot sits on the South West Coast Path, so you can ramble on in either direction if you so wish. The town of Falmouth will take you half an hour to reach on foot, too.

For a unique and unforgettable experience, stay in this operational lighthouse on the furthest point of Cornwall’s Roseland Peninsula. The sea views are second-to-none, whether that’s from the sunny patio or the detached observation room – complete with a fireplace for cosy storm watching. Seeing as this lighthouse is operational, expect to hear automatic fog signal on misty nights and see maintenance people from time to time. Other than that, the cottage is private with no public access. You’ll park in the National Trust car park – it’s a 300-metre steep path down to the cottage from there. Guests should also be aware that the home isn't suitable for children under 14, including babies. But there's a lot to love here. You even have easy access to a beautiful beach.

Set in a secluded spot within twenty acres, this upside-down home makes the most of the countryside vistas and will have you itching to get out to explore. Most tourists make a beeline for the Cornish coast – but little do they know that this beloved landscape is home to another beautiful feature, the Fal River. The surroundings here are slightly different, where green pasture gives way to mixed woodland and small pebbled riverside beaches. This characterful, quintessentially Cornish cottage dates back to the 1800s and provides perfect panoramic views over these stunning vistas, with three separate outside seating areas to choose from. Stithians reservoir is sure to appeal to watersports enthusiasts, with sailing, windsurfing and paddleboarding on offer, while the Mineral Tramways cycle path is also worth exploring.

The cottage's location in the west of the county makes it impossible to stray far from either the north or south coast. Seasoned surfers and weekend warriors will appreciate the proximity to plenty of excellent surf spots, including Porthtowan, Gwithian, and Porthleven, all within half an hour's drive.

If you're visiting during the colder months, the restful abode is the perfect place to snuggle up in the evening. Step outside after a breakfast on the deck and you can spend a day swinging on the hammocks or lounging on the recliners amid birds. Revel each day in coastal walks across Porthtowan Beach until you reach the cliffs. Cycle around villages and all across this UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you're a surfer, the hosts own their own Surf shop and will be happy to help. You will be welcomed with a Cornish tea of home-made scones, clotted cream and jam. And, if in season, you may get a package of home-grown seasonal organic vegetables as a gift.

Brimming with original artwork and oozing charm, this coastal cottage is a real knock-out. We love every inch, from the inviting living space to the sumptuous bedroom. It's snug, but that's what makes it so cosy, and for a small space, it sure is packed with personal touches. Egyptian cotton sheets, electric fireplace, fluffy bathrobes, beach essentials, a welcome basket overflowing with breakfast items – your host has all the little details taken care of. As much as we adore the lovely kitchen, our favourite spot has to be the rustic courtyard. Dotted with olive trees and surrounded by leafy potted plants, it's the perfect place for morning coffees, alfresco dinners and evening tipples as the sun goes down. As far as locations go, this home is close to everything – it's only a ten-minute walk to Gyllyngvase Beach and five minutes to the restaurants, shops and pubs along the waterfront. While there's private parking on-site, you won't need the car for much. Don your comfiest shoes and set off on foot instead, exploring Falmouth's coastal walks, art galleries and cafes with ease.

Once a fisherman’s cottage, this cute Porthleven bolthole dates back to 1880. You can picture the relief on the weather-worn fisherman’s face, returning to this cosy abode with a fire crackling in the stove (it’s electric now) and stargazy pie steaming away on the farmhouse-style table in the kitchen. Your days in Porthleven don’t have to be so hard, meandering down to the harbourfront in just a few minutes where boats still land the fresh catch of the day, supplying a glut of independent restaurants. There’s a soft-sand beach here too, for days on the surfboard.

Speaking of which, if you want to hang your wetsuit out to dry and store your board, there’s a private backyard just for this. Inside, we love the exposed stone walls still on display – a nod to the home’s history. Sinking into one of the sofas is a delight after a day on a surfboard or walking the South West Coastal Path. Then there are the bedrooms with cushioned piled high on the beds – the epitome of cosiness.

You’ll be pleased to know it's only a five-minute walk from your door, where alongside stunning scenery, you’ll find a gorgeous coastal path, and a handful of charming beachside cafes and eateries. Refuel on local produce at the Gull Rocks Bar & Coffee House at the beach’s entrance after an afternoon spent splashing about, and take in the stunning vistas afforded by its prime location. A short twenty-minute drive away is the Gannel Estuary, which separates neighbouring Crantock village from Newquay. Have a go at canoeing in the estuary, or try your hand at paddle-boarding over in Crantock. On quieter days, why not go for fish and chips followed by some ice cream in idyllic fishing villages such as Mevagissey, Mousehole or Gorran Haven, all within an hour's drive? First off, there's a lot of room inside considering it's only for two people, with the modern corner kitchen particularly large — and well-equipped for that matter. This generosity with space will have contributed towards the M2 Accessibility Rating it received from Visit England, which marks the single-level property out as suitable for guests with reduced mobility and part-time wheelchair users. What's more, there's a private sandstone patio complete with alfresco seating and a hot tub from which to enjoy summer evening sunsets. If you prefer to watch this while sitting on the sand with the sound of the waves lapping nearby, Perranporth Beach is less than ten minutes' drive. Similarly, the towns of Truro and Newquay only take a quarter of an hour to reach by car.
