Later, take advantage of some of the farm's other surprises — a communal games room with ping-pong, a shared tennis court, a hammock hidden away in the orchard, and a basketball hoop. With a number of extra activities also bookable, you can take part in a foraging workshop, try out stand-up paddleboarding or get involved in local wine tasting. Alternatively, you can drive to the port city of Plymouth in about forty minutes and visit the National Marine Aquarium.

An upright piano can provide the soundtrack to a seaside escape and the full kitchen has you covered for meals at home. The slanted old ceilings in the bedrooms are a little low in places, but really set the cosy tone.

Set over three floors, all facing the sea just steps away, it's part of a gleaming new development of a handful of striking, contemporary houses. We enter via the games room and utility area on the ground floor, where you'll find a pool table and – as odd as it may sound – a dog shower. Perfect for washing the sand from your furry friend, it's a unique feature we think could make all the difference to your stay. There's a ground floor bedroom and bathroom – perfect if some guests prefer a little more privacy – and stairs lead up to the large kitchen and impressive living room. Here you can enjoy panoramic views of the coastline and access both a small balcony and a side terrace with an outdoor dining table. It also happens to house a private hot tub with sea views.

The two remaining bedrooms and bathrooms are on the top floor and it's here you'll find our favourite room. The main bedroom is simply stunning, with a private balcony and a large en-suite bathroom with a glass wall so that, from the raised bathtub, you can not only see the TV but also out through the patio doors to the sea. 

Perfect for a group of friends or a family here to relax on the beach, it's only a short walk to the Whitsand Bay Golf Course, and a cute café, with plenty of big attractions within a short drive.

The home makes up part of a former Duchy of Cornwall daffodil farm – nowadays, chickens and ducks roam the grounds freely – and there are even Highland cows too. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – there are fantastic local walks (maps and wellies provided) on your doorstep. You can enjoy the amenities of the farm, too, including a tennis court, an orchard with a hammock, basketball hoop, woodland, and a private shingle beach right on the river – there are forty acres to explore in total. There's certainly plenty to keep you occupied here –  your hosts are Cornwall Wildlife Trust Members, which affords you access to wildlife education sessions for children, including mini-beast safaris, rock pooling events, and bird box making. This delightful home overlooks Plymouth Sound and boasts one of the best locations in the city. With only Hoe Park between you and the sea, spend your stay strolling along the waterfront and visiting the Barbican area’s pretty harbourside restaurants, less than a ten-minute walk from your doorstep. 

The apartment itself has beautiful sash windows, which flood the rooms with light. Wooden floors, mustard velvet upholstery and a modern kitchen make the open-plan living space a comfortable and stylish place to relax after a day of exploring. But the highlight of this home has to be its views, which you can enjoy from the balcony. We think it’s an experience best enjoyed with a locally distilled gin in hand as the sun sets into the water.

There are plenty of spots from which you can gaze out at the pretty meadows, woodland and the banks of the River Tamar that surround the address, whether that's out through the floor-to-ceiling windows that line the main living space or while seated on the roof terrace bordered by a leafy pergola. However, the home's interior is well worth your attention, too. Certain features have been retained from the building's industrious past, including wooden ceiling beams and exposed stonework, but otherwise, the design is bright and contemporary.

The number of amenities available to guests distinguishes this home from the pack. Not only is there a homely wood-burning stove in the main space, but there's a games room with a ping-pong table and darts board in a section that was once a cattle shed, plus lots of equipment for outdoor games beside the forecourt and lawned area. Here you will find tables, benches and additional seating for your exclusive use and space to stoke up barbecues and challenge the group to a variety of games.

Elsewhere on the site, there are the ruins of a silver and lead mine accompanied by the pumping engine house and smithy, part of the industrial landscape recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are other footpaths that lead off into the countryside, but you can also stroll down to the banks of the River Tamar, on which there's a two-hour window every day when it's safe to use it for water sports.
