This contemporary home was designed as a lookout to admire the meandering Tamar Estuary. The large windows, open living space and terrace present a spanning view of the water and natural surroundings. As you enter the home, The front door leads directly into the open-plan living room with oak flooring and full height sliding doors leading out onto a south-east facing balcony framing the panoramic waterfront views. With the waterfront vistas stretching through to the bedrooms too, it couldn't be easier to stretch out, unplug and relax away from the daily grind of working life. Boat lovers are in for a treat, as you can access the river via the private pontoon and explore the Cornish coastline without having to head to a port. With direct water access onto the estuary for about three hours on either side of high tide, enjoy canoeing or crabbing directly from the private pontoon. This, coupled with the dingy slipway offers the perfect waterfront lifestyle. The Peninsula is dotted with pretty fishing villages and unspoilt beaches, which provide excellent seaside adventures. Looking out the window in the living room, you can see just how close you are to the restaurant-lined harbourside as boats float in the water. The two remaining bedrooms and bathrooms are on the top floor and it's here you'll find our favourite room. The main bedroom is simply stunning, with a private balcony and a large en-suite bathroom with a glass wall so that, from the raised bathtub, you can not only see the TV but also out through the patio doors to the sea.

There are plenty of spots from which you can gaze out at the pretty meadows, woodland and the banks of the River Tamar that surround the address, whether that's out through the floor-to-ceiling windows that line the main living space or while seated on the roof terrace bordered by a leafy pergola. However, the home's interior is well worth your attention, too. Certain features have been retained from the building's industrious past, including wooden ceiling beams and exposed stonework, but otherwise, the design is bright and contemporary.

The number of amenities available to guests distinguishes this home from the pack. Not only is there a homely wood-burning stove in the main space, but there's a games room with a ping-pong table and darts board in a section that was once a cattle shed, plus lots of equipment for outdoor games beside the forecourt and lawned area. Here you will find tables, benches and additional seating for your exclusive use and space to stoke up barbecues and challenge the group to a variety of games.

Elsewhere on the site, there are the ruins of a silver and lead mine accompanied by the pumping engine house and smithy, part of the industrial landscape recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are other footpaths that lead off into the countryside, but you can also stroll down to the banks of the River Tamar, on which there's a two-hour window every day when it's safe to use it for water sports.

In a quiet village in Devon, this cottage is all about kicking back and escaping to the countryside. There’s a cosy village pub within easy walking distance and the neighbouring village of Buckland Abbey is home to a beautiful, centuries-old abbey to explore. For a day in the buzzing coastal city of Plymouth, it’s just a half-hour drive.

The cottage was fully renovated in 2018, keeping that countryside idyll feel throughout. We love the outside space – the babbling stream running through the garden provides a peaceful soundtrack and a private hot tub for a soothing soak at the end of the day. There’s seating for drinks and dining on the patio and a pretty little summer house should the weather turn.

Inside, the black wood beams against the white ceiling are striking and homely at the same time. Slate floors and exposed stonework create an 18th-century cottage feel and there’s a traditional cast-iron wood-burner in the centre of the living room. Bedrooms are cosy yet sunny, with French doors letting the sunlight stream in. Plus, there’s a free-standing tub in the main bathroom which begs for a long soak with a glass of something bubbly.

Stylish and classic at every corner, this home has been beautifully decorated and oozes elegance from its walls. Located only moments from Plymouth Hoe and the picturesque sea, you’ll have convenient access to quaint shops, beaches and entertainment venues to fill your time – although this is a home you won’t want to stray far from. Feature fireplaces are a cosy touch if visiting during winter months – enjoy a warming tea in the morning from the confines of your duvet, with the coal fire a toasty addition to the sun peeking through the bay windows. With the option to bring your four-legged friends along for the ride, they will have a sweet spot to curl up next to. With so much within walking distance, they will happily put their paws up at night. 

If you do like to be beside the seaside, enjoy an evening off cooking and pick up some traditional fish and chips for dinner. The elegantly dressed dining room will be ideal for a relaxed meal, enjoyed over a glass of wine. If you fancy a little quiet time, sneak off for a bubble bath and wrap yourself in a fluffy towel. You will feel a lovely hug of luxury to remind you that this is a wonderful holiday home, away from home.
