Explore the local coffee shops and markets whilst you’re there by strolling the cobbled streets and admiring the architecture. The award-winning Callow Hall is five minutes away, and Thor’s Cave – one of the beautiful hiking trails of the area – can be found at the other end of a twenty-minute drive. 

But we bet we had you at rural peace, didn’t we? You’d be right to embrace it and there’s no better way than soaking up all that quiet from your position on the sunlounger. In the summer months, you can ward off the heat by slipping into the beautifully clear, private pool. Autumn and spring would best be spent strolling the large garden – you might even pack a basket and thermos for an impromptu picnic when you find a spot that you’re particularly drawn to.

Your host can provide equipment for little ones and well-behaved pets are welcome, and there is space for alfresco dining on the large patio. Our favourite spot to unwind is the private hot tub, especially with those countryside views. Indoors, the main staircase has some gaps, so younger children will need supervision. You won't find a washing machine here, but for shorter trips, we think it's a great choice. You'll want a car here – the Peak District National Park is easily reachable, while thrill-seekers will find Alton Towers just a fifteen-minute drive away.

Dating back to the 19th century, this barn in the White Peak area of the Peak District has ben given a new lease of life in recent years. No longer used for farmyard storage, it's now a country getaway full of luxurious touches.

Save for the sections of exposed stonework, you wouldn't be able to guess this home's true age. The design is contemporary but definitely rustic in flavour, with bare floorboards, artfully weathered wooden furnishings and a Scandinavian-style wood-burning stove that's the ideal companion to return to after a long bout in the great outdoors.
