With 5 acres at your disposal, this rustic cottage in the Peak District is the ideal escape for anyone looking to indulge in a slice of rural peace. Not so rural, however, that you can’t easily nip into the Georgian gem that is Ashbourne. Explore the local coffee shops and markets whilst you’re there by strolling the cobbled streets and admiring the architecture. The award-winning Callow Hall is five minutes away, and Thor’s Cave – one of the beautiful hiking trails of the area – can be found at the other end of a twenty-minute drive. 

But we bet we had you at rural peace, didn’t we? You’d be right to embrace it and there’s no better way than soaking up all that quiet from your position on the sunlounger. In the summer months, you can ward off the heat by slipping into the beautifully clear, private pool. Autumn and spring would best be spent strolling the large garden – you might even pack a basket and thermos for an impromptu picnic when you find a spot that you’re particularly drawn to. 

Select one of the books in the library and curl up with it on the leather sofa, only getting up to top off your coffee. Evenings can be spent watching a movie in front of the crackling fire or by playing board games – just as long as you don’t forget the cocoa. Nestled on the outskirts of the Peak District, this holiday cottage is great for nature lovers and families. Your host can provide equipment for little ones and well-behaved pets are welcome, and there is space for alfresco dining on the large patio. Our favourite spot to unwind is the private hot tub, especially with those countryside views. Indoors, the main staircase has some gaps, so younger children will need supervision. You won't find a washing machine here, but for shorter trips, we think it's a great choice. You'll want a car here – the Peak District National Park is easily reachable, while thrill-seekers will find Alton Towers just a fifteen-minute drive away.

Although you’re surrounded by the fields and fells of Derbyshire’s peaceful countryside here, this family-sized home is just a fifteen-minute drive from the centre of Derby. You’ve got cycleways and walking trails on your doorstep, and museums of industry, galleries and a beautiful gothic cathedral to explore in nearby Derby.

On arrival, this place rises up like a striking, red-brick barn. The lawns are vast – perfect for kids that want to run around and let off steam. The back garden is home to a private hot tub for post-walk soaks and outdoor dining on the patio overlooking the bucolic Derbyshire scenery.

Dating back to the 19th century, this barn in the White Peak area of the Peak District has ben given a new lease of life in recent years. No longer used for farmyard storage, it's now a country getaway full of luxurious touches.

Save for the sections of exposed stonework, you wouldn't be able to guess this home's true age. The design is contemporary but definitely rustic in flavour, with bare floorboards, artfully weathered wooden furnishings and a Scandinavian-style wood-burning stove that's the ideal companion to return to after a long bout in the great outdoors. The svelte rolltop bathtub upstairs is another way to get toasty and warm, too.

As you can probably guess from looking out through the glass doors to bucolic views of rolling countryside, you're not short of walking routes and picturesque scenic points in the immediate locale. Located on the southeastern edge of the gorgeous Peak District National Park, this stunning ten-bed Georgian mansion is secluded away within an acre of immaculately presented private gardens. With terraced lawns, cute courtyard spaces and a Big Green Egg barbecue, the ornate outdoor areas are perfectly set up for alfresco dining. In fact, the gardens are noteworthy enough to have had an entire episode of BBC's Gardener's World devoted to them.

The home packs in plenty of charm from the moment you enter its grand entrance hall, with eye-catching colourful tiles, an imposing fireplace and elegant antiques. It's a similar story throughout the rest of the ground floor, with the addition of wood panelling in the reading room, large bay windows overlooking the garden in the drawing room, and plenty of light and space beneath the beautiful vaulted ceiling in the kitchen. After looking around this home, you probably wouldn't guess that the property has been standing for more than a quarter of a millennium, but that's a testament to the care and attention that has gone into the renovation.

Aside from the odd exposed stone wall and the original fireplace, the interior is as contemporary as they come, but great importance is placed on cosiness, too. Underfloor heating and a wood-burner will get you warmed up once again after bracing country walks, while the huge kitchen has plenty of space for whipping up hearty feasts. If the weather's playing ball, you can even eat outside, which will give you an opportunity to admire the bucolic scenery.

As well as this private patio and barbecue, there's a shared fire pit on the grounds around which to gather once darkness falls.
