After looking around this home, you probably wouldn't guess that the property has been standing for more than a quarter of a millennium, but that's a testament to the care and attention that has gone into the renovation.

Aside from the odd exposed stone wall and the original fireplace, the interior is as contemporary as they come, but great importance is placed on cosiness, too. Underfloor heating and a wood-burner will get you warmed up once again after bracing country walks, while the huge kitchen has plenty of space for whipping up hearty feasts. If the weather's playing ball, you can even eat outside, which will give you an opportunity to admire the bucolic scenery.

As well as this private patio and barbecue, there's a shared fire pit on the grounds around which to gather once darkness falls. Guests also get access to a shared games room, which has tables for ping-pong and pool, board games and toys, as well as a small shop selling meat from the surrounding farm and locally produced artisanal products.

Sitting deep within the Peak District, you're certainly not short of walking routes in the local area, plus a couple of historic attractions — Magpie Mine is only a ten-minute walk, for instance. And what would a rural getaway be without a charming pub? You'll probably be happy to hear that the closest one is only eight minutes away on foot.

Beautiful Bakewell is a fourteen-minute drive, and Chatsworth House, with its rich history and stunning gardens, is eighteen minutes away. 

This is a home with comfort at its heart. After days spent touring historic houses and meandering around scenic villages, it’s a delight to return to. You might spend the morning hiking in the countryside surrounding the farm, and then head back here to curl up with a good book. The courtyard garden is a lovely spot for an alfresco lunch, and boasts gorgeous views. 

In the evening, stroll thirteen minutes to the local pub for a pint by the roaring fire. You can dine there or back at the apartment, enjoying the cosy open-plan living and dining space. Later on, sink into the oh-so-comfortable bed – you’re guaranteed a peaceful night’s sleep here.

Dating back to the 19th century, this barn in the White Peak area of the Peak District has ben given a new lease of life in recent years. No longer used for farmyard storage, it's now a country getaway full of luxurious touches.

Save for the sections of exposed stonework, you wouldn't be able to guess this home's true age. The design is contemporary but definitely rustic in flavour, with bare floorboards, artfully weathered wooden furnishings and a Scandinavian-style wood-burning stove that's the ideal companion to return to after a long bout in the great outdoors. The svelte rolltop bathtub upstairs is another way to get toasty and warm, too.

As you can probably guess from looking out through the glass doors to bucolic views of rolling countryside, you're not short of walking routes and picturesque scenic points in the immediate locale. The historic market town of Longnor only takes five minutes to reach in the car as well and offers a one pub, coffee shop & village shop.

Walking into this beautiful cottage, you’d probably not be able to tell that it is over three-hundred-years old, or that it has a fair amount of experience as a coaching inn. Save for the exposed beams, brickwork, and basic structure, this home’s undergone a complete makeover that’s turned it into a very hospitable, little home. We, of course, love historic touches and found that the ones present here add a bucketload of charm to this home, and the choice of furnishings only further serves to make this space comfortable and inviting. Sink into the plush velvet sofa – by the way, we think the blue around the house brings a brilliant luxe contrast to the space – with the fire crackling at your feet as you catch up on your reading. 

Reading that can also be done outside when the weather is just right. Head out with a cup of coffee and embrace the peace and quiet, enjoying the view of the cathedral when you’ve put your book down for a quick break. 

Back inside, the kitchen – which features a beautiful aga cooker – connects to a dining room by the way of a conservatory, which makes even cooking a social affair as some guests can get breakfast ready whilst others bask in the light streaming in from up above. 

As if this home could get much better, it’s also very close to the famous Peak District National Park and a day out there, admiring the lakes and moors as you hike the round hills, is an absolute must. When you return too tired to cook, head to the local pub or chip shop for a quintessentially British end to your day.

Fit for a romantic country break, this classic stone cottage sits in the rolling hills near Huddersfield. A ten-minute drive sees you in the confines of the Peak District – the UK’s oldest National Park – where walking trails weave across the landscape atop hills and past waterfalls. Ten minutes in the other direction, you’ll find the quaint town of Holmfirth to stock up on groceries and visit the local pubs and cafés. There’s a local pub and bakery a fifteen-minute stroll into the hamlet of Hepworth too.

After a day trekking in the Peaks, this is the perfect spot to put your feet up. Unlace your hiking boots and warm your toes by the wood-burning stove in the living room. ‘Cosy’ is the watchword here, with old wooden gables on display and thick stone walls keeping things warm once the stove gets going. There’s a little selection of holiday reads for evenings by the fire and a full kitchen for meals at home. In the sunny summer months, make use of the patio, furnished with a bistro table for two. From here, the only sound is the odd bleet from sheep in the field next door.

You can grab a meal in the village pub, the local chippy or the Tandoori restaurant. However, if you want more variety, a five-minute drive will take you to nearby Ramsbottom, where you'll have a much wider choice of cafes, restaurants, and food shops. A thirty-minute drive will have you in central Manchester, in the heart of all that the city has to offer. In the evening, fill the bathtub and feel the relaxation wash over you.

It's easy to fall in love with the landscapes that inspired one of the greatest love stories of all time, Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights. This cottage, with its stunning views over the moors and Haworth, is a fabulous, romantic retreat. This place is perfect for couples celebrating an anniversary or those who just want to pamper themselves (and who doesn't?). We're pretty sure that you won't find many cottages cuter than this. Built at the backend of the eighteenth century, this traditional weaver's house is Grade-II listed and you can see why. Inside, the wooden ceiling beams, exposed brickwork and stable door are full of rustic charm, while a log-burning fire and antique furnishings add an extra level of cosiness. To the side of the home, there's a patio area complete with alfresco seating where you can enjoy a coffee and the surrounding tranquillity of West Yorkshire. Fans of Last of the Summer Wine — one of the longest-running sitcoms in the world — will love walking around the local town of Holmfirth where it was filmed. The Peak District is only a ten-minute drive away too if you're in the mood for a long ramble.
