Located in the coastal village of Marlborough, this home makes it easier than ever to relax. Out in the palm-filled garden, you can sit back in the hot tub before getting out and taking a perch next to the fire. Alternatively, the alfresco lounge on the terrace isn't a bad spot for a languorous evening over a bottle of wine.

Heading through the glass doors, you'll see the interior is just as geared towards laid-back living. Not only in the decor — heavy as it is with faux fur, house plants and neutral colours — but also in the numerous sumptuous spots where you can kick back. During the colder evenings, you can get cosy on the sofa with the log-burner crackling in the background or lie back in the freestanding bathtub. During brighter days, the dining table in the conservatory complete with an upright piano is sure to see some action.

As you can probably guess from the nautical view from many of the windows, the seaside isn't too far away. South Sands Beach is only seven minutes away in the car, for instance. That's just one of many beauty spots in the surrounding South Devon AONB and once you've worked up a hunger from seeing all the locale has to offer, simply drive over to Salcombe in six minutes and hit up one of the seafront gastropubs.

This design-led eco home combines the best of modern living in a beautiful coastal setting. Huge floor to ceiling glass windows look out onto rolling green hills and breathtaking views of the Devonshire coastline. The open, sunshine yellow kitchen is well equipped for whipping up home cooked meals, which can be eaten al fresco on the deck on warmer days. When you're ready to see even more of this corner of England, walk 150 yards to Challaborough Bay, the sandy horseshoe shaped cove, perfect for a bracing swim or some surfing lessons. The South West Coast Path is a two-minute walk away and if followed for just over an hour and a half, will take you through gorgeous coastal scenery to Wonwell Beach. The famous seaside town of Salcombe can be reached in thirty minutes by car, where you will find excellent fish restaurants, the iconic Cranch’s sweet shop, and local ice cream shops serving honeycomb ice cream, a Salcombe classic. 

When you arrive home, settle in on the cosy sofas for a movie night, or fire up the bluetooth speaker and enjoy drinks on the terrace as the sun sets over the horizon.

Sleeping up to ten people, this spacious, light, and elegant property makes the most of its location, with floor-to-ceiling windows, elegant ash floors, and a barefoot luxury feel throughout. You're within easy walking distance of Bantham Beach – perfect for sunny summer days and pumping surf sessions in the spring and autumn. The Gastrobus is on hand for warming post-dip coffees and locally sourced street food, and there's a charming fourteenth-century pub just up the road. Back home, after stowing your surfboards and rinsing off your gear under the outdoor hose, you can enjoy direct access to the outdoors from the open living area and the master bedroom on the lower ground floor. There's plenty of space out here for alfresco feasts and sunbathing sessions, plus private access to the estuary for Blyton-esque riverside adventures for the kids. This 250-year-old thatched cottage will charm you from the get-go. It's tucked down a winding lane surrounded by rolling countryside, sandwiched between Hope Cove and Salcombe. There's no doubt the location is impressive, but we reckon the home is even better. The garden is the epitome of outdoor living, with a bubbling hot tub, a summerhouse, and a panoramic terrace. You can toast marshmallows around the fire pit, or when the weather turns, head inside to the drawing room and get cosy in front of the fire. The cherry on top is the shepherd's hut, where a lucky couple can unwind in total privacy. No wonder English Home Magazine deemed it a 'must-stay' on the Devon coast.

Standing on a historic estate, this Grade II-listed Georgian home is ideal for a large family gathering or friendly reunion. You'll have plenty to keep you occupied – the sprawling grounds include two acres of gardens, several terraces, access to a private beach, and a tennis court. Perfect for multiple families, the home is split between the main house and a wing with three bedrooms. That means you'll find several cosy living areas and places for dining and cooking here. Having said that, coming together as a group in the large dining room and enjoying a meal prepared by a private chef (available through your host) sounds very tempting.

But it's the sensational views here that really caught our eye. We adore the sea-facing balcony, where you can perch with a glass of wine and watch the tide roll in. Inside, the living area is bathed in sunlight and offers plenty of space for a small family – including two pups – to stretch out. The building also has handy storage for all your outdoor gear, be it kayaks or wetsuits.

Surrounded by 64 acres of vineyards, orchards and farmland, this luxurious barn conversion puts you between the coastal beauty of the South Devon AONB and Dartmoor National Park. A fifteen-minute drive sees you at the Southwest Coast Path to discover secluded bays and white cliffs, or make the twenty-minute drive to Bantham Beach for a day on the soft sand of the classic British seaside. 

Though if you want to stay closer to home, you’ll find plenty of activities right on the estate. Outside, meanwhile, the home ups the ante with a sunny front patio, as well as a back garden complete with a gazebo for alfresco dining, gas and charcoal barbecues and a pizza oven. It’s ideally located a short stroll from Island Street where you can nip over to its artisanal shops for morning croissants and essentials, while Salcombe Castle and the nearby beaches can easily be reached by car.

Just a short stroll from the centre of Salcombe, this apartment is a refreshing coastal escape. The rooms are bright and breezy, the balcony has beautiful views across the estuary and we love the sweet extras like the Sonos sound system, Netflix and The White Company toiletries. Families should note that child-friendly amenities aren’t available here and that little ones will need to be supervised in the communal garden. Still, it’s a fantastic location with easy access to East Portlemouth's beaches, as well as hiking trails through the surrounding countryside – not to mention private parking for adventures further afield.

Set just off Salcombe's bustling high street, you couldn't dream up a more central location for this stylish home. Not that you'd know it sat on the oh-so-private terrace of this palatial property. Offering practicality and style in equal measure, the orangery dining room is a delight – and that designer kitchen with twin dishwashers and wine fridges makes entertaining a breeze. With flexible arrangements for each bedroom, which are spaced apart over three floors, this home perfectly suits big groups looking to holiday together without crowding each other.

Situated in a private gated development, this penthouse apartment is all about the views. Easily accessible courtesy of the lift from the covered parking area, head on up to the third floor and you’ll find an open-plan, light-filled space waiting to welcome you home. The sea vistas are best enjoyed from the balcony over a glass of wine, but you’re spoilt with scenery from most parts of this home – fling open the bi-fold doors and take it all in. Better still, Salcombe's centre is just a short stroll away, so you'll never be too far from shops, eateries and the water.

Aimed at families who like to get out into the fresh air, it's a fabulous country house in an idyllic rural setting. Right on the River Avon, it's the perfect spot for wild swimming with a rope swing and river plunge pool in the garden. Set in its own pretty grounds, the rustic farmhouse can trace its roots back to the 12th century and has plenty of character. Stone floors, oak beams and fireplaces are topped off with comfy furnishings and a lived-in, home from home feel. We love the living room with its exposed stone wall and cosy sofas around the fire. Bedrooms are all of a good size and even the bathrooms are stylish. Ideal for a large family group, you can cook meals in the country kitchen and serve them at the huge dining table, or barbecue outside on the Argentinian grill on warmer evenings. If the lure of the water has called you here, you can spend days playing in the river, or hop into the twelve-man hot tub. Head off for walks nearby or just let the kids bounce on the trampoline while you sit back with a cold beer on the sun loungers. Other add-ons include sea fishing with the host and taking time out in the log-fired sauna in the grounds. And it's just a short drive to Kingsbridge and the coast if you fancy a change of scene.

Nestled on sprawling grounds and just a five-minute walk from a beach on the River Erme, this home will go down a treat with families seeking a rural escape. During the day, you can play games on the shared tennis court and croquet lawn or enjoy the view from the private terrace. In the evening, the cosy living room is the place to be thanks to its fireplace. The apartment is part of a larger building with other guests, but with seven miles of trails on the grounds, you'll easily find space for yourself. You're also just a short drive from several picturesque villages and beaches when you want to explore.

Grade II listed, this Devon home is the perfect base for a family or group of friends who want plenty of space to stretch out. With sprawling grounds to explore and access to a beach, the home is ideal for children and nature lovers. You can hire a private chef through your host, too – the best way to enjoy the home's stately dining table, if you ask us. Overlooking an arm of the Salcombe-Kingsbridge Estuary, this home not only has a stunning waterfront view in its arsenal, but the rolling countryside packs a pretty impressive punch, too. For that very valid reason, we recommend spending as much time as possible out on the decked terrace – whether that’s in the hot tub or simply enjoying a cup of coffee in one of the outdoor chairs is completely up to you, as long as you’re keeping an eye on the horizon. 

Popular with paddle boarders, you might even spot a few going by when you’re taking in the water views. If you’re eager to try it out for yourself, there’s a rental place a five-minute walk away and they’ll see that you’re joining the fray in no time. Prefer to admire the water from afar? Also completely fine, and you might find yourself frequenting the famous Crabshell Inn. With its waterfront position, you’re able to appreciate the surroundings while you sip a pint, and it’s only a five-minute stroll away from home. 

Explore the market town of Kingsbridge, drive to Salcombe and visit as much of South Devon as you can manage in between all of the relaxation you’ll be doing in this home. Kindle a fire in the wood-burning stove and sit back with a glass of wine as you watch the world go by through the floor to ceiling windows.

Fancy a romantic getaway with a twist? This upside-down home places a firelit living area above the bedroom, where the en-suite bathtub enjoys a framed view of the creek. Upstairs, we think the waterside terrace might inspire a paddle to Salcombe – made easy by the three-seater kayak your host provides. It's worth noting that there is a bit of a hike to the front door here (thirty-six steps, to be precise), so this home won't be the best option for everyone.

Set in the heart of bustling Salcombe, this former fisherman's cottage is a delightful place to call home. As you can expect, the interior has plenty of coastal charm, though it is a tad snug upstairs. All the contemporary comforts are accounted for, be it underfloor heating or White Company toiletries. Evenings call for cocktails in the front courtyard – there's a distillery just across the street where you can sample local gin. Also within walking distance are Salcombe's artisan shops, independent eateries, and picturesque harbour, perfect for dog walks in the sun.

Tucked away in a secluded valley, yet with South Ham's water's edge and Devon's beaches a short drive away, the setting of this cottage is one of a kind. Part of an impressive country estate, kids will love the shared indoor heated pool, tennis court, playground and vast communal lawns found within the grounds – not to mention the trampoline, slide, climbing frame, sit-on tractors and football pitch. It's worth noting this elegant cottage only has a small private courtyard leading off the kitchen. But with those shared terraces overlooking the valley for barbecues and pizza oven nights, we can forgive that.

There’s no chance of forgetting where you are when you stay in The Bowline. The nautical theme runs through the entire apartment (and when you head out, the entire town of Salcombe), but with good reason. This part of south Devon has some of the most picturesque coast in the country, so it makes sense that the area emphasises that. The apartment itself is charming, with a real homely atmosphere. It’s not huge, but if you don’t try to pack it out, it’s plenty big enough, and Diana’s hosting is top-notch, which goes a very long way.
