There's no doubt the location is impressive, but we reckon the home is even better. The garden is the epitome of outdoor living, with a bubbling hot tub, a summerhouse, and a panoramic terrace. You can toast marshmallows around the fire pit, or when the weather turns, head inside to the drawing room and get cosy in front of the fire. The cherry on top is the shepherd's hut, where a lucky couple can unwind in total privacy. No wonder English Home Magazine deemed it a 'must-stay' on the Devon coast.

You're within easy walking distance of Bantham Beach – perfect for sunny summer days and pumping surf sessions in the spring and autumn. The Gastrobus is on hand for warming post-dip coffees and locally sourced street food, and there's a charming fourteenth-century pub just up the road. Back home, after stowing your surfboards and rinsing off your gear under the outdoor hose, you can enjoy direct access to the outdoors from the open living area and the master bedroom on the lower ground floor. This apartment caught our eye with its impressive sea views and private terrace. It’s also in the perfect spot for refreshing walks along the coastal path, as well as providing easy access to the heart of Hope Cove. Free private parking is available here and two well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you during your stay. Inside, the rooms are family-friendly with bunk beds in the second bedroom and children's amenities available on request. Plus, your host can help organise a range of sweet extras – including paddle board hire.

For that very valid reason, we recommend spending as much time as possible out on the decked terrace – whether that’s in the hot tub or simply enjoying a cup of coffee in one of the outdoor chairs is completely up to you, as long as you’re keeping an eye on the horizon. 

Popular with paddle boarders, you might even spot a few going by when you’re taking in the water views. If you’re eager to try it out for yourself, there’s a rental place a five-minute walk away and they’ll see that you’re joining the fray in no time. Prefer to admire the water from afar? Also completely fine, and you might find yourself frequenting the famous Crabshell Inn. With its waterfront position, you’re able to appreciate the surroundings while you sip a pint, and it’s only a five-minute stroll away from home. 

Explore the market town of Kingsbridge, drive to Salcombe and visit as much of South Devon as you can manage in between all of the relaxation you’ll be doing in this home. Surrounded by 64 acres of vineyards, orchards and farmland, this luxurious barn conversion puts you between the coastal beauty of the South Devon AONB and Dartmoor National Park. A fifteen-minute drive sees you at the Southwest Coast Path to discover secluded bays and white cliffs, or make the twenty-minute drive to Bantham Beach for a day on the soft sand of the classic British seaside. 

Though if you want to stay closer to home, you’ll find plenty of activities right on the estate. Gin and wine tastings are on offer and walking the grounds you’ll come face to face with white-faced Dartmoor sheep and red Devon cattle. Should the weather turn, you’ve got a private indoor swimming pool and a dedicated cinema room with plush red theatre chairs and a big screen to keep you entertained. But sunny days can be spent on the patios, dining, reclining and unwinding in front of the rolling Devonshire scenery.

While over in the main house, discover three elegant bedrooms, each with a sleek bathroom. The cosy sitting room and log-burning fires are a nice touch for hunkering down on winter nights. And that made-for-action kitchen with double dishwashers and a sizable wine fridge will make entertaining a breeze. 

Salcombe Muse

Fancy a romantic getaway with a twist? This upside-down home places a firelit living area above the bedroom, where the en-suite bathtub enjoys a framed view of the creek. Upstairs, we think the waterside terrace might inspire a paddle to Salcombe – made easy by the three-seater kayak your host provides. It's worth noting that there is a bit of a hike to the front door here (thirty-six steps, to be precise), so this home won't be the best option for everyone.

Set just off Salcombe's bustling high street, you couldn't dream up a more central location for this stylish home. Not that you'd know it sat on the oh-so-private terrace of this palatial property. Offering practicality and style in equal measure, the orangery dining room is a delight – and that designer kitchen with twin dishwashers and wine fridges makes entertaining a breeze. With flexible arrangements for each bedroom, which are spaced apart over three floors, this home perfectly suits big groups looking to holiday together without crowding each other.

Transporting you right to the water’s edge, this apartment makes the ideal setting for a refreshing coastal escape. You’ll be a short stroll from the nearby beaches, as well as Salcombe’s main attractions. If you happen to own a boat, you can set sail straight from the private slipway and adventure along the coast. And for those in search of pure relaxation, the terrace provides the perfect spot to sit back and soak in the estuary views. Guests should also note the living room and kitchen are on the top floor with stair access, so this may not be the best option for those with reduced mobility.

You’re just a short walk from Salcombe High Street, and if you wish to drive, you’ll be pleased to know there’s parking here (it’s a shared driveway with your neighbour). And while the outdoor dining set is a little sun-bleached, it’s a lovely spot to enjoy alfresco breakfasts and barbecue dinners. Inside, the open-plan kitchen and dining room are perfect for entertaining family and friends, while the living room is an inviting space to share a few games of cards.

Aimed at families who like to get out into the fresh air, it's a fabulous country house in an idyllic rural setting. Right on the River Avon, it's the perfect spot for wild swimming with a rope swing and river plunge pool in the garden. Set in its own pretty grounds, the rustic farmhouse can trace its roots back to the 12th century and has plenty of character. Stone floors, oak beams and fireplaces are topped off with comfy furnishings and a lived-in, home from home feel. We love the living room with its exposed stone wall and cosy sofas around the fire. Bedrooms are all of a good size and even the bathrooms are stylish. Ideal for a large family group, you can cook meals in the country kitchen and serve them at the huge dining table, or barbecue outside on the Argentinian grill on warmer evenings. If the lure of the water has called you here, you can spend days playing in the river, or hop into the twelve-man hot tub. Head off for walks nearby or just let the kids bounce on the trampoline while you sit back with a cold beer on the sun loungers. Other add-ons include sea fishing with the host and taking time out in the log-fired sauna in the grounds. And it's just a short drive to Kingsbridge and the coast if you fancy a change of scene.

Set in the heart of bustling Salcombe, this former fisherman's cottage is a delightful place to call home. As you can expect, the interior has plenty of coastal charm, though it is a tad snug upstairs. All the contemporary comforts are accounted for, be it underfloor heating or White Company toiletries. Evenings call for cocktails in the front courtyard – there's a distillery just across the street where you can sample local gin. Also within walking distance are Salcombe's artisan shops, independent eateries, and picturesque harbour, perfect for dog walks in the sun.

Nestled on sprawling grounds and just a five-minute walk from a beach on the River Erme, this home will go down a treat with families seeking a rural escape. During the day, you can play games on the shared tennis court and croquet lawn or enjoy the view from the private terrace. In the evening, the cosy living room is the place to be thanks to its fireplace. The apartment is part of a larger building with other guests, but with seven miles of trails on the grounds, you'll easily find space for yourself. You're also just a short drive from several picturesque villages and beaches when you want to explore.

Better still, Salcombe's centre is just a short stroll away, so you'll never be too far from shops, eateries and the water.
