If you're ready to escape into nature's embrace, then this charming lodge nestled in the heart of Devon’s green countryside is an ideal choice for you. This minimalist affair, with lovely views in every direction, is a great refuge for a few days of rest and relaxation –  especially since it's equipped with a big hot tub outside.

When you're not soaking in it and admiring the scenery, the countryside paths will take you deeper into pristine nature where you can breathe in the healthy countryside air. When you've had your fill, return to your holiday escape for a nice cup of hot cocoa on the luxurious sofa and an evening of movies to be enjoyed on the big flat-screen TV. Fall sleep with ease and wake up refreshed and rested, with the country vistas helping you to welcome a new day. 

Even though there are lots of lovely places to eat in the neighbouring towns, you can just as easily opt for staying in and cooking for yourself — there's plenty of tasty local produce available in the village, and the well-equipped kitchen will make rustling up something delicious a breeze. 


Our Cup of Tea

Just a short walk from Westward Ho! beach, and with private access to Northam Burrows Country Park, this home is made for embracing the outdoors. Boasting an upside-down layout, you’ll find the living area on the upper floor of this coastal home – ideal for making the most of the countryside and distant sea views. With a cosy garden and balcony, alfresco dining is a must in warmer months. There's also a private hot tub for pure relaxation. That said, with hikes on your doorstep, the Royal North Devon Golf Club next door, and a blue flag beach that’s a haven for surfers, windsurfers, kayakers, and dog walkers, getting out and about locally is a must. 

Spirit of Nature

This charming home is part of a lighthouse site, having been renovated from a former lighthouse keeper’s cottage. It’s just outside of the pretty village of Mortehoe in North Devon, where you’ll find pubs and restaurants. Woolacombe and its Blue Flag sandy beach is also just a ten-minute drive away. The cottage is in an ideal spot for bird watching, and there are plenty of walks to enjoy nearby. The house itself is cosy and comfortable, with everything you might need for a short stay by the sea. 

Lighthouse Haven

Far-reaching views of Ilfracombe’s sea, town, and harbour await at this elevated apartment retreat. It’s a panorama best admired from the south-facing balcony, which leads off the apartment's living room and bedroom. While the interiors aren’t anything to write home about, it’s all well-cared for and would suit a fuss-free family getaway. The private parking will be handy for bucket-and-spade days along the South West Coast. Or keep things local – Ilfracombe’s historic Tunnels Beaches, quaint harbour, and bustling independent shops and restaurants are just a short stroll away.

The Sea Perch

With its cosy log burner, stone walls, and private courtyard, this cottage is perfect for a peaceful countryside retreat. Inside, it’s snug and homely – a great base to return to after long days outdoors. The kitchenette is compact, ideal for breakfasts and light meals, leaving plenty of excuse for pub lunches and afternoon teas. Outside, the hot tub is a tranquil spot to unwind under the stars. There’s not much in the way of nearby attractions, but if scenic walks, coastal exploring, and a good dose of peace and quiet are what you’re after, this is exactly the place to relax.

Enchanting Cottage

You'll find this stylish apartment right on the banks of Saunton Sands. If surfing, swimming and sunbathing are on your holiday to-do list, you can't do much better than this beachfront setting – and with the South West Coastal Path on your doorstep and Saunton Golf Club a short drive away, walkers and golfers will have plenty to keep them busy, too. 

The views alone are worth staying for. Morning, noon or night, the best place to soak up the scenery is on the shared balcony – the perfect spot to savour a coffee in the sunshine or cocktails as the sun goes down. Even inside, thanks to the dual aspect, you can feast your eyes on the ocean no matter what you get up to, be it lounging on the sofa, sharing a meal around the dining table or soaking in the main bedroom's sumptuous rolltop bath. 

Besides the panoramas, we love how incredibly bright and roomy this place is. The aesthetic is sleek and minimal, but it works – the big windows drench every room in light, while the open-plan layout is ideal for socialising. Home chefs can let their culinary skills run wild in the kitchen, while surfers will love having wetsuit and board storage plus an outdoor shower on-site. And all the mod-cons are accounted for – including a rainfall shower, underfloor heating and a wine fridge – so you'll have everything you need for a coastal getaway.

Seaside Serenity

Golfers and beach seekers – this one’s for you. With far-reaching views across Saunton golf course and Braunton Burrows, this is a perfect coastal retreat for a family. With two living areas, there’s plenty of space for everyone to spread out and relax here – and let’s not forget the garden, where you can breathe in the sea air while soaking up the vistas. When you’re tempted to the coast, it’s a mere ten-minute walk along a beach path to Saunton Sands. 

Saunton Sanctuary

One glance at those panoramic views and it's love at first sight. Perched just above Woolacombe Beach, if you're anything like us, you'll spend nearly every moment here on the expansive deck, watching the tide rise and fall – except when you're sunbathing on the sand or surfing the waves, of course. Wake up to the ocean vistas each morning, then following an alfresco breakfast, stroll down to the beach for an afternoon picnic and a dip in the water. End the evening with a barbecue and a glass of wine, watching as the sun slowly sinks below the horizon. Sounds heavenly, doesn't it?

You can even make the most of the scenery inside, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that drench the entire home in natural light. Contemporary and cool, we love how the coastal colour scheme reflects the backdrop – and all the mod-cons are accounted for. The rainfall showers in the en-suite bathrooms are hotel-worthy, a high-spec kitchen stocked with culinary gear (including a wine chiller) is a dream to cook in and Netflix, Now TV, books and board games will keep you entertained on rainy days. 

Location-wise, you can follow the South West Coastal Path into Woolacombe for eateries and pubs (about a fifteen-minute walk), or head in the opposite direction and check out the views from Morte Point (twenty-five minutes away). There's also some great golfing at Saunton if you fancy a day on the fairway, while many of North Devon's gems are within driving distance. 

Ripples in the Sea

The hosts built this home from the ground up – pulling up outside you'll immediately get the sense you're about to stay somewhere unique. And you'll get the personal touch too, as host Deborah and her family love to greet every guest on arrival. Style-wise, this home is equal parts classy and edgy; velvet upholstery and faux-fur throws contrast with neon signs and curious light fixtures in the bedrooms. The pièce de résistance is the gravity-defying fireplace in the living area, nothing short of a showstopper. You'll want to explore every room in depth to make sure you haven't missed anything. This is a level of design you might not necessarily expect from a sleepy part of coastal Devon – but that's part of the home's beauty. It's the perfect retreat for those seeking total tranquility in exceptional surroundings. 

The Early Risers

Handy, really, given you’ve got a plethora of walks on your doorstep, not to mention Exmoor National Park within easy reach. Fancy a coast day instead? You’re around a half-hour drive from North Somerset’s beaches – this home really does give you the best of both worlds.

Every aspect of the interior has been carefully considered in order to make the most of the compact space. Your hosts have blended modern comforts with handmade elements and elegant organic shapes to create a getaway that's as pleasing to the eye as it is for the soul. 

On the ground floor, stunning slate floors are pleasing underfoot and extend all the way outside, while gorgeous wooden cabinets in the kitchenette provide sleek storage solutions. Climb the hand-built staircase to the bedroom and you'll be rewarded with breathtaking countryside vistas from the comfort of the king-size bed and the spectacular balcony. If can tear yourself away, enjoy easy access to the unspoiled beaches of the Pembrokeshire coast. Dale, Marloes and Newgale beaches are all within easy reach by car. If you'd rather actively explore, we highly recommend walking a section of the jaw-dropping Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, or heading into the mysterious Preseli Mountains dotted with prehistoric monuments. Finally, reward yourself with a soak in the full-size hot tub tucked away on the private veranda.

Peregrine Lodge

Here you can swim or surf – the water is slightly calmer than nearby Croyde Bay, making it ideal for beginner or intermediate surfers. If you prefer to keep your feet dry, it’s a glorious part of the world for walking and horse riding – it’s at the heart of the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, after all. Braunton Burrows – a sand dune system and Biosphere reserve – is just a few minutes away from Saunton Sands. Home to a large number of rare plants and animals, it’s popular with wildlife enthusiasts.

The views are captivating from every angle – we spent hours gazing out at the sea and sands – and sunset is an event in of itself.
