The brainchild of a celebrated interior designer, this North Devon townhouse has got it all figured out. Located a couple of minutes’ drive from Croyde beach, where you’ll spend long days surfing and soaking up the salty sea breeze, the inside of the home is beautifully sophisticated, with subtle nautical nods—we loved the knot wallpaper and delicate fish shoal light shade. The bunks in the children’s room will be a hit with mini swashbucklers, while the pizza oven on the patio should keep big kids quiet for a while. You’ll find the pretty village of Croyde a five-minute amble down the road, offering a charming selection of tea rooms, ice cream parlours and thatched pubs. After a hearty roast dinner, retreat home to the outdoor hot tub before turning in for the night in those luxurious king-size beds.

This original Georgian house has been completely reimagined, extended and turned into the ideal hub for large groups of friends or extended families after seamless modern living along the beautiful Devon countryside. We love the tiled floors and blue cabinetry here – not to mention the Butler’s sink – as well as the glossy marble countertops that are sure to inspire even the most reluctant of home cooks. On this same floor you’ll find the bedroom, making a bold statement with its red-painted beams, wood-panelled walls and large, comfy bed inviting a peaceful night’s sleep, while the bathroom – on the ground floor too – beckons relaxing wake-ups with its rainfall shower.

Upstairs, the living room is a bright, enticing space with its scarlet sofa and chairs, as well as its large glass doors leading out onto a private enclosed patio. Our favourite spot to kick back is the sun-drenched garden, where summer barbecues and twilight cocktails are sure to be on your itinerary. With a decked seating area ideal for alfresco dining and a pretty summerhouse to retreat to when you need a break from the rays, we wouldn't blame you if you decide to spend every second here soaking up the fresh air.

Inside is just as cosy. Settle down on the plush sofas with a glass of wine and watch a film in front of the electric fire. Home cooks, meanwhile, will love preparing family feasts in the country-style kitchen. After a long walk along the coast, soak sore muscles in the bathtub before climbing into the comfortable beds for a well-deserved sleep – with so much to explore in Devon, you'll need all the energy you can get it. 

Location-wise, you're just a short walk from the village and about one mile from Croyde's sandy beach. But in this bright and beautiful lodge, rural life meets modern sensibilities. As soon as you arrive, passing through rolling green fields and grazing sheep, the first thing you’ll notice is the spectacular outdoor space. Framing your gorgeous blue wooden home is a lush lawn, a pale wood decking with outdoor seating, and our favourite feature – a traditional, wooden outdoor hot tub. But before you jump in to start soaking the night away, it’s also worth exploring the indoors. With floor-to-ceiling windows and glass sliding doors, this home really allows you to bring the outside in. Plush velvet chairs and a cushy sofa bring a softness to the otherwise minimalist living space – a perfect setting for a warm Earl Grey after a long day on the windswept beaches of Devon. While these dramatic coastlines are of course a major attraction of staying in this area, you can also find some of the county’s best dog-friendly beaches, such as Woolacombe Beach, just ten minutes away. Perfect for you and the pup.

A ten-minute drive from the pristine shores of Devon’s Woolacombe Beach, this modern lodge is an isolated, minimalist abode that's perfect for serenity-seekers. While you can reach the town of Georgeham by taking a seven-minute stroll through the lush countryside, the home truly does feel like a world away. With spectacular green views in every direction, courtesy of the panoramic windows and floor-to-ceiling glass doors, enjoy the great outdoors even when you’re cosy inside the home. Switch on the fairy lights for a magical evening on the soft sofa under the covered decking, then slink into the hot tub with a glass of champagne as the stars come out. This setting is simply ideal for gazing up at the night skies.

Waking up will be a breeze at this exclusive penthouse apartment, thanks to the stunning views across the rolling North Devon countryside and out to sea. Step out onto one of the many private balconies (there’s three) for a moment of quiet while taking in the rising sun. Then fire up the coffee machine and rustle up breakfast in the well-equipped kitchen before a day of adventures. And you won’t have far to go when it's time to hit the surf –⁠ Croyde Beach is just a five-minute stroll away. While away the days lounging and building sandcastles on the sandy shorelines, or up the ante with a seafront yoga class, surf lesson, or horse-riding. When it’s time for a change of pace, head into Croyde Village (ten minutes on foot). With open-air markets throughout the week and a playground that kids will love, there’s something for everyone here, including a swathe of pubs and restaurants for when thoughts turn to food. Just be sure to make it back home before the sun sets – the shared lawned garden and south-facing terrace is ‘the spot’ to watch the sun dip behind the rural Downend hills.

Situated a mere ten-minute walk from the beach in Croyde, this home is ideal for those seeking a coastal retreat – and surfers, in particular. Up to eight guests will need to share two bathrooms here, one of which is an en-suite, but aside from this, there’s plenty of space for everyone to spread out and enjoy some quiet time or socialise as a group. The garden is a lovely spot for alfresco dinners while in winter, the wood burner is a welcome sight after a day on the coast.

If you're ready to escape into nature's embrace, then this charming lodge nestled in the heart of Devon’s green countryside is an ideal choice for you. And, on sunny days, you can fling open the patio doors and head out to the garden for an evening tipple in the fresh countryside air. 

You'll love getting to know charming Georgeham, strolling through the quaint streets, then stopping off for a pint of ale at one of the local pubs. Hikers and cyclists can explore the beautiful landscapes of the North Devon Coast Nature Reserve. And, if you fancy a day at the beach, take a ten-minute drive over to Croyde Beach to surf, walk, or simply relax.

The interior has been decorated in a contemporary style while maintaining plenty of period features and cottage charm. The bright and breezy kitchen/diner has a beautiful exposed beam ceiling and a large dining table that can accommodate the whole group. On cooler evenings, set the fire and sink into the sofa in the delightful living room. The downstairs double bedroom is perfect for anyone who'd prefer to avoid the stairs, while it also boasts direct access to the patio and lovely garden complete with outdoor furniture. Head upstairs for a further three bedrooms and a modern family bathroom. Outside, you've got a couple of parking spaces (a real luxury in peak-season Croyde), and a central courtyard with an outdoor shower. The centre of Croyde with its pubs, restaurants, cafes and surf shops is just steps away, while the dune-backed beach is a ten-minute walk. Croyde beach is one of North Devon's most stunning stretches of sand and attracts surfers year-round thanks to its reliable waves. When the surf gets too big, or the wind too strong, you're less than a ten-minute drive from Putsborough beach, where the headline protects you from those prevalent south-westerly winds. For breathtaking coastal walks, head to the nearby National Trust headland of Baggy Point where a cliffside footpath offers spectacular views of the Atlantic and Lundy Island.

Ideal for families and those seeking a coastal escape, this apartment is homey and welcoming. Its main attraction is undoubtedly its sea-facing position and the incredible sea views. Putsborough Beach is just a few minutes away, but you don’t need to go farther than the terrace to enjoy the sea air. Best of all, you’ll have access to a shared indoor swimming pool and a sauna, so even if the weather is poor, you can splash about. The decor isn't the most modern, but we think the location in Croyde more than makes up for that.

With sea views from every angle, this hillside home is the perfect base for beach babies. Bookended by Woolacombe and Mortehoe, you'll be within walking distance from some of Devon's best stretches of sand. Surfers will want to try the waves at Woolacombe beach below, while more sheltered bathing can be found in the coves of Combesgate and Barricane beaches. 

In the evenings, sit out on the patio and watch the sun set over the sea with a glass of something nice. On chillier nights, curl up by the wood-burning stove in the cosy lounge as the wind picks up outside. The modern kitchen has all the facilities needed for rustling up a feast, though it's hard to resist the fish and chip shop found a ten-minute walk away. For more formal meals – or for a few cocktails in town – Woolacombe has several restaurants and bars, or the larger town of Barnstaple is a twenty-minute drive away. The South West Coast Path runs past the house so join it to walk through magnificent rock formations and striking cliffs above. Our recommendation? Lundy Island – famous for its puffins – can be seen from the house and makes for a great day trip, with ferries leaving from Ilfracombe and Bideford.

This is a level of design you might not necessarily expect from a sleepy part of coastal Devon – but that's part of the home's beauty. It's the perfect retreat for those seeking total tranquility in exceptional surroundings.

Set above Grunta Beach and positioned in the hilly dune-like valley behind Morte Point, this coastal abode makes the most of its location. Here, sea vistas are framed by large windows, whilst a large outdoor terrace provides an impressive viewpoint – this home prioritises your coastal vantage point for a memorable getaway.

Inside, the large open living space is homey and modern, creating a comforting place for you to unwind after a day walking the South West Coastal Path. On wild, wintery days, watch the tide roll in with morning coffees curled up on the modular sofa. And on balmy summer nights, open up the French Crittall doors wide for alfresco drinks on the terrace - the crashing waves and blazing sunsets are spell-bounding.

Inside, there's a sharp design focus to this uber-modern aparthotel, designed by the owner, a London-based property developer. A minimalist's dream, expect clean, uncluttered spaces with underfloor heating, marble-clad bathrooms, and high-end furnishings adding a dash of luxury. 

When it's time to hit the surf, pad out across the landscaped communal gardens and follow the footpath leading you directly to one of Britain's best surfing beaches. With a surf school on your doorstep and a handy outhouse and outdoor shower for hosing down and storing all your surf paraphernalia, this is a surfer's paradise. And it's dog and family-friendly too, so all the troops are welcome here. 

Explore pretty nearby coastal spots like Croyde (seven-minute drive) and Woolacombe (eighteen-minute drive). And there's a thriving foodie scene to keep you well watered and fed – from Michelin-starred restaurants to good old-fashioned fish and chips – it's got it all going on.

If you love a beach holiday, this cute home is perfect for you. Such is the proximity to one of the beaches, you can see the lapping waves and golden sands from the privacy of your cute garden. Sitting with a cup of coffee in the morning – listening to the sound of the waves touching the shore – is the perfect way to start your day.

The home is also within walking distance of two other beaches along Woolacombe's pretty esplanade – you can take trips to all three and discover your favourite. If you're feeling peckish after swimming, numerous pubs and restaurants reside nearby in Woolacombe centre.

Whilst you're out, pick up some supplies to enjoy back at the apartment. A deluxe dining table is made for sharing plates of fish and chips, complemented by a crisp glass of something cold.

Make the most of the outdoor space at this home by enjoying alfresco meals on the decking area and treating yourself to indulgent dips in the hot tub. This pretty lodge is surrounded by fields and farmland, making it an excellent location from which to explore the Devon countryside. There are public footpaths and bridleways within walking distance, and many picturesque trails to follow within the surrounding area. The North Devon coast is also just over two miles away, meaning you can hop in a car to reach the surfing hub of Saunton Sands, the pretty dunes of Croyde Beach and the colourful beach huts of Woolacombe. Perched just above Woolacombe Beach, if you're anything like us, you'll spend nearly every moment here on the expansive deck, watching the tide rise and fall – except when you're sunbathing on the sand or surfing the waves, of course. Location-wise, you can follow the South West Coastal Path into Woolacombe for eateries and pubs (about a fifteen-minute walk), or head in the opposite direction and check out the views from Morte Point (twenty-five minutes away). There's also some great golfing at Saunton if you fancy a day on the fairway, while many of North Devon's gems are within driving distance.

Perched above Woolacombe Beach, overlooking the dramatic Devon coastline, this charming cottage offers sweeping views of the bay.

After an active day, head into the town centre and take your pick of a charming pub dinner, a seafood restaurant feast or famed fish and chips along the seafront.

This beautiful country home is steeped in history – the colonial-style building is Grade II listed, and it is said that former Prime Minister William Gladstone once stayed here when visiting Braunton. 

The bay window looks out onto the historic parish church, and there is an excellent village pub right next door for when you’re in need of some refreshment or a tasty pub lunch. The cosy sitting room has a wood-burning stove and comes with a complimentary basket of logs, and there’s an additional snug with a sofa and TV – just pop on one of the many DVDs available in the library and settle in for a movie night. You’ll also have the bright and modern kitchen at your disposal – why not rustle up a quick, delicious supper, which you can then enjoy in the spacious dining area.  

A picturesque stretch of the Tarka Trail is close by, offering paths for walking and cycling, while a short car ride will take you to an array of lovely beaches, including Saunton and Croyde. You can indulge in water sports such as surfing and canoeing here, and the house has storage space for boards. Those hoping for a more low-key, restful trip can simply enjoy the golden sands and the soothing sound of waves – and don’t forget to taste the legendary Devon cream tea! 


Take A Little Time

Did somebody say beach? Few places can boast of having direct access to one of Devon's finest beaches, but from this home, you can step out of the door, through the shared garden and onto the footpath down to Saunton Sands. A garden-level apartment in a freshly converted building, it's got space, style and knockout sea views. Perfect for a family or a group of friends getting away to the coast, it's both contemporary and comfortable. 

Inside, the enormous open-plan living space is the star of the show, with a vast lounge area, dining space and a well kitted-out kitchen. Fling open the sets of doors and just breathe in that sea air. We particularly love the covered terrace, with cosy outdoor sofas so you can sip your drinks and admire the view. The master bedroom comes with an in-room freestanding bathtub and the luxurious shower room is decked out in marble, with a fabulous rainfall shower.

By day, splash and play on the beach (don't forget your surfboards – there's a place to store them here) or head to nearby Croyde and Woolacombe. Walk the sand dunes of Braunton Burrows or play a round at Saunton Golf Club, and in the evening enjoy meals together at the big dining table. It's even dog-friendly there's so no need to leave out your four-legged family members here.

Spend ten minutes wandering the local coast path to Grunta Beach where the turquoise water gleams like blue crystals in the sun, or make the six minute-drive to Woolacombe for a classic English day out at the beach on a huge stretch of sand with sea waves to jump over.

It’s as popular with surfers as families, but with such a vast stretch of beach, rarely feels crowded. The popular village of Braunton is also close by, with its many surf shops, restaurants and cafes. Enjoy a lazy lie in before heading to the beach to swim, surf and explore Braunton Burrows’ immense sand dunes. Then come back for a relaxing dunk in the hot tub and watch the sun go down on the deck with a glass of something delicious. The host welcomes pets (and Saunton Sands is dog-friendly year-round), so if you’ve got a furry friend, it’s the dream holiday.
