It’s also in the perfect spot for refreshing walks along the coastal path, as well as providing easy access to the heart of Hope Cove. Free private parking is available here and two well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you during your stay. Inside, the rooms are family-friendly with bunk beds in the second bedroom and children's amenities available on request. Plus, your host can help organise a range of sweet extras – including paddle board hire.

Embrace coastal living at its finest in this first-floor apartment. Nestled on the waterfront path to Hope Cove, you'll be a short walk from the village's eateries, pubs, and beaches. But it's the sensational views here that really caught our eye. We adore the sea-facing balcony, where you can perch with a glass of wine and watch the tide roll in. Inside, the living area is bathed in sunlight and offers plenty of space for a small family – including two pups – to stretch out. The building also has handy storage for all your outdoor gear, be it kayaks or wetsuits.

Just a short stroll from the centre of Salcombe, this apartment is a refreshing coastal escape. The rooms are bright and breezy, the balcony has beautiful views across the estuary and we love the sweet extras like the Sonos sound system, Netflix and The White Company toiletries. Families should note that child-friendly amenities aren’t available here and that little ones will need to be supervised in the communal garden. Still, it’s a fantastic location with easy access to East Portlemouth's beaches, as well as hiking trails through the surrounding countryside – not to mention private parking for adventures further afield.

For that very valid reason, we recommend spending as much time as possible out on the decked terrace – whether that’s in the hot tub or simply enjoying a cup of coffee in one of the outdoor chairs is completely up to you, as long as you’re keeping an eye on the horizon. 

Popular with paddle boarders, you might even spot a few going by when you’re taking in the water views. If you’re eager to try it out for yourself, there’s a rental place a five-minute walk away and they’ll see that you’re joining the fray in no time. Prefer to admire the water from afar? Also completely fine, and you might find yourself frequenting the famous Crabshell Inn. With its waterfront position, you’re able to appreciate the surroundings while you sip a pint, and it’s only a five-minute stroll away from home. 

Explore the market town of Kingsbridge, drive to Salcombe and visit as much of South Devon as you can manage in between all of the relaxation you’ll be doing in this home. There’s no chance of forgetting where you are when you stay in The Bowline. The nautical theme runs through the entire apartment (and when you head out, the entire town of Salcombe), but with good reason. This part of south Devon has some of the most picturesque coast in the country, so it makes sense that the area emphasises that. The apartment itself is charming, with a real homely atmosphere. It’s not huge, but if you don’t try to pack it out, it’s plenty big enough, and Diana’s hosting is top-notch, which goes a very long way.

The South West Coast Path is a two-minute walk away and if followed for just over an hour and a half, will take you through gorgeous coastal scenery to Wonwell Beach. The famous seaside town of Salcombe can be reached in thirty minutes by car, where you will find excellent fish restaurants, the iconic Cranch’s sweet shop, and local ice cream shops serving honeycomb ice cream, a Salcombe classic.

The full-height arched windows flood this space with light and allow guests to enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding area. You’re just a short walk from Salcombe High Street, and if you wish to drive, you’ll be pleased to know there’s parking here (it’s a shared driveway with your neighbour). And while the outdoor dining set is a little sun-bleached, it’s a lovely spot to enjoy alfresco breakfasts and barbecue dinners. Inside, the open-plan kitchen and dining room are perfect for entertaining family and friends, while the living room is an inviting space to share a few games of cards.

The Little Sailor

This charming Edwardian home nestled in the hills overlooking the North Sands and just a short walk from the beach is a great place for a Devon getaway – and you can bring your furry friends along too. The views from the terrace and balcony are breathtaking, and you can enjoy them while sharing alfresco meals and sipping on gin and tonics in the comfy outdoor seating areas. The lush garden is also a great addition, and from here you’ll be able to access a footpath leading directly to North Sands. Inside, you’ll find plenty to keep the whole family happy, including a wood-burning stove and for a good night’s rest, comfy beds and luxury bedding. There are quite a few steps to climb here, so the home may not suit guests with reduced mobility.

Though tall guests will have to take care not to bump their heads on low ceilings, especially in the kitchen, we think the landscape views, outdoor hot tub, and fire pit are well worth the compromise. Hope Cove awaits down the road with its waterside eateries and a tiny harbour, perfect for quiet beach days.

Tucked away in a peaceful but central part of Salcombe, this home had our attention the second we caught those views. With a raised position and spread over three floors, the windows are perfect for watching the town’s iconic harbour. Downstairs, the large living space combines the dining room, kitchen, and living room, meaning guests can easily break off into smaller groups while still being together. Nearby, the adventurous can try crabbing along Victoria Quay or even have a go at paddle boarding. You’ll also want to take advantage of the free parking permit, ideal for exploring even more of Devon’s stunning coastline.

The Seashells for Days

Set in the heart of bustling Salcombe, this former fisherman's cottage is a delightful place to call home. As you can expect, the interior has plenty of coastal charm, though it is a tad snug upstairs. All the contemporary comforts are accounted for, be it underfloor heating or White Company toiletries.
