Although you’re in the heart of the idyllic English countryside here, it’s just a fifteen-minute drive into the centre of Exeter with its huge array of restaurants, cafés and shops, and there are plenty of things to do in the woodland grounds – walking and cycling trails, golf, angling and horse-riding. 

The Emperor Dragonfly

Perched on the third floor in the very heart of Exeter, Crowning Moment is in the privileged position of being able to offer its guests exquisite views of the city's Gothic Cathedral. Although recently renovated, Crowning Moment itself is steeped in history and you can feel it throughout. Boasting exposed timber frames, high ceilings, and original windows, this home carefully balances modern-day luxuries with its own rich history for a trip that is relaxing and educational all at the same time. Spend your days learning about Exeter and strolling through its charming streets before heading home to the comfort of this lavish space.

Crowning Moment

This gorgeous converted barn allows you to connect with nature. Perfect for hosting no matter the weather, enjoy a garden party on the lawn or get festive indoors with a roaring fire. The rustic kitchen and ample dining space are perfect for those who love to cook with love for their family. The Wendy house, tire swing, and games room provide endless entertainment for children who love to play. 

Wooden beams adorn the ceilings, adding to the farm life vibes. Look out of the window to spot any free–roaming ducks from the surrounding one–hundred acres of land, who have come to say hello. You may also hear the clucks of the neighbouring chickens.

Guests can enjoy the sprawling countryside with nature walks and wildlife photography. Feeling adventurous? Pop down to The Bear Trail, an obstacle course packed full of challenges that will leave you craving a sit down at the end of the day. Luckily for you, this home provides guests with plenty of seating areas – inside and out.

Wood & Stone

For a quintessential Devon break, it doesn't get much better than this elegant Victorian farmstead. Built by Lord Hamberdon's estate in 1833, this country house commands unbroken views to Haytor Rocks some three miles away. Your hosts have lovingly restored this home over the years, being careful to maintain its original features. As a result, it's got character in spades. The kitchen strikes just the right balance between rustic charm and modern convenience, while the adjacent breakfast room makes it a lovely space for a slow start to the day, and direct garden access comes into its own on sunny mornings. Elsewhere on the ground floor, there's a dining room that's perfect for gathering together as a group and a cosy living room for that post-lunch nap by the fire. Head upstairs, and you'll find two master bedrooms, both with en-suites and stunning views south across the National Park, with a further two bedrooms on the same floor. Outside, the large walled garden enjoys Dartmoor views as far as the eye can see. There's a gorgeous covered seating area that's perfect for eating outdoors, while the bubbling hot tub is just the cherry on top. Far from any light pollution, we can't think of anything better than enjoying a post-dog walk soak as the stars emerge. There's also croquet and swing ball to keep the kids busy. Enjoy excellent walking, cycling, and horse riding directly from your front door. There are also a variety of fantastic local pubs to choose from.

Draw the Dreamers

If you're searching for a peaceful spot in South Devon where you can really relax, then this home is a true gem. It's one of a small number of holiday homes set on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, surrounded by tranquil wooded grounds and rolling hills. Inside you'll find a cosy living space, rustic flagstone floor and squashy sofas that invite you to flop down and chill out in style. The outdoor space is pretty special too, with your very own wood-fired hot tub where you can gaze at the stars, and a patio that's ideal for alfresco dining. There’s something about retreating to a timber-clad lodge in the sun-dappled woodland that we can’t get enough of. Peaceful, homely and a little bit luxurious, this place is the ultimate decompression destination. Inside, it’s unfussy yet cosy. There’s a stylish wood-burner to keep your toes warm and a big, brown leather sofa for curling up with a mug of hot tea in the evenings. The primary bedroom feels romantic with its elegant four-poster bed and the sunken hot tub on the decking adds a touch of luxury. Make your favourite meals in the fully-appointed kitchen and enjoy among six acres of forest, accompanied by views of the lake.  In the afternoon, take a wander through the trees, sit and listen to the sweet birdsong or enjoy a spot of fishing. If you’re keen to explore further afield, the ancient city of Exeter is a fifteen-minute drive away. Visit the Gothic cathedral or enjoy a drink in the sunshine by the quayside.

By The Bulrushes

Head out to Devon for a wonderful retreat in this truly unique home. Tournesol is a large, family-friendly home nestled into its own private grounds at the end of a rural lane, yet only a five-minute drive from the beach. Surrounded by the peaceful half-acre garden, guests staying here are invited to spend a few relaxing days in the countryside, but without having to give up any luxuries or homely comforts. This eco-home is equipped with underfloor heating, a gourmet kitchen, brilliant home entertainment systems, and, best of all, a Swedish-style wood-fired hot tub. Pack your bags, your loved ones, a few great books and your swimming trunks – a trip to Tournesol is guaranteed to be a memorable one.

Tournesol

Although the classic sitcom Fawlty Towers gave the impression that accommodation in Torquay left much to be desired, this majestic townhouse completely dispels that notion. 

Having been renovated in 2022, the design brings together boldly patterned wallpaper, a smattering of antique furnishings, some well-chosen pieces of artwork and tufted furnishings to create an interior that feels traditional but far from stale. The bright blue tiling in the bathroom is rather fetching, too

It must be said that the standout features are found in the garden, which is filled with flowers during the warmer months. As well as offering plenty of seating out on the terrace, there's also a hot tub in which you can pass summer evenings.

If the weather gods are smiling down upon you during your stay, the shingle beach at Anstey's Cove can be reached in under fifteen minutes, while Babbacombe Beach takes ten minutes more than that. The Kent Cavern caves are only eight minutes away on foot, too.


A Pocket Full of Rye

This exquisitely renovated bakehouse provides a sweet escape amidst the glorious rolling hills and wooded valleys of East Devon. It sits in the lovely village of Musbury, within walking distance of the local shop and pub and just a twelve-minute drive from Lyme Regis and its spectacular Jurassic coastline. 

The interior strikes the perfect balance between contemporary comfort and authentic charm. Look closely, and you'll spot ample inklings of this home's storied past, from the beam-clad ceilings to the Juliet balcony, where flour bags were once hauled from the loft below. On the first floor, the open-plan living area is blessed by heaps of natural light, offering a free-flowing canvas of calm with lofty vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors and partially exposed stone walls. Plush sofas huddle around the wood-burning fireplace – a lovely space for chilly evenings – while the fully-equipped kitchen and diner offer direct access to the garden. Enclosed for privacy and boasting a lush lawn, the outdoor space beckons you to unwind in the fresh air. Let the dog roam free here and, after long walks through the countryside, fire up the barbecue and gather on the pretty terrace for a delicious alfresco feast.

The Old Bakery

Set on 32 acres of unspoilt nature, this idyllic cottage is located in the heart of Dartmoor National Park. While modern designs and entertainment features invite guests to relax and unwind in comfort, breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes are bound to cleanse the soul and rid guests of any stresses brought by life's daily grind. 

Stop to ponder the natural beauty that faces you in every direction, as when staying here; you'll never be short of things to see and do. Start with the two ancient farm ponds filled with wildlife; we could spend hours taking in the dreamy greenery. 

Visit the on-site chickens and collect fresh eggs for breakfast – the outdoor picnic bench on the private patio offers a tranquil spot amidst the fresh country air to enjoy a full English fry-up. You'll also find a built-in brick barbecue where cooking up a feast comes with a peaceful setting surrounded by nature. On chilly evenings you can gather around the fire pit to keep warm.

Beyond your cosy cottage, you'll have shared access to a fabulous games room equipped with toys for the children, a pool table, jukebox, air hockey, table football, books and a TV and film selection. Outside, there's a golf practice area as well as a children's playground – making this spot utterly perfect for those holidaying with children. The cherry on the cake? The property has recently refurbished an indoor heated swimming pool for guests to use at their own free leisure.

And with so many scenic walking routes within the Dartmoor National Park on the agenda alongside the likes of Bovey Tracey and Newton Abbot reachable in under thirty minutes – you'll get to enjoy everything that the Devon countryside has to offer with simple ease and convenience.

A modern take on the Devon holiday cottage, Green Finger Lodge is surrounded by the picturesque woodlands of the Teign Valley. There are some fantastic walks in the area – a particular favourite takes you through the woods to the local pub. Whether you're after a moment of peace or want to get the group together for an alfresco meal, the long wraparound terrace is a perfect setting to relax with a drink and admire the views and spot some wildlife. There’s also a badminton set (as sell as a games room for when the weather isn’t cooperating). Step inside and instantly feel at ease with the minimalist, modern interiors or retire to one of three bedrooms with generous super king-size beds and an en-suite bathroom each. It would suit a family of five or six, and being on a single level it's practical for those travelling with toddlers, grandparents or even furry friends, so bring them all!

Green Finger Lodge

If you're on the hunt for a unique holiday home with five hundred years of charm and period features, then look no further than this warm and welcoming property in the heart of the pretty town of Ashburton.

Located right on the southeastern edge of Dartmoor, there's plenty to explore right on your doorstep. The town is packed with upmarket boutiques, cool cafes and a surprisingly cosmopolitan array of restaurants.
