We love paddling at Paignton, which is a twelve-minute drive, and exploring the harbour in Torquay, which is sixteen minutes away. 

If you prefer to keep your feet dry, there’s still plenty to enjoy here. The South West Coastal Path is a dream for hikers and cyclists, and you have all of Dartmoor’s delights to discover too. 

When you’re not exploring, you’ll be relaxing at the cottage. Curl up on the sofa beneath wooden beams for a cosy afternoon in, or spill out onto the courtyard for games in the fresh air. This fantastic Victorian villa in the English Riviera is the perfect home for family holidays. Located in Paignton, this home is only a short walk from many great activities including Paignton Beach – a nineteen-minute walk away – where you will find the pier, the Geopark, a fairy cove, pirates bay adventure golf, and even a multiplex cinema perfect for those typical rainy British days. What’s more, Splashdown water park is a short nine-minute walk away and Torbay Leisure Centre – with its pool, gym and squash courts – is reachable in twelve minutes on foot.

Your little ones will love letting off steam in the home’s large, enclosed garden too, with the kid's swing, trampoline, treehouse, football goal and pirate boat. Meanwhile, you can relax on the garden bench with a good book or enjoy an afternoon Devonshire cream tea alfresco at the outdoor dining area. 

When it’s time to come indoors, head from the decked veranda through the French doors into the living space. Curl up on the sofa to watch a family film and even make it cosier with the wood-burning stove, which can be lit for additional warmth or roasting marshmallows. Your little ones hopefully won’t object to bedtime with the twin rooms one of which is Star Wars-themed and the other which features a dollhouse mounted on the wall and a whimsical fairy wall hanging to decorate. We can’t promise they’ll want to stop playing and go to sleep though.

Despite its small size, this studio apartment's proximity to Paignton's seafront gets full marks from us. The water is so close, you could practically reach out and touch it from the living area, making it the perfect spot to enjoy some sand, surf and Devon sunshine. 

We love how the coastal scenery is reflected in the sleek and stylish design. Yellow chairs invite you to kick back and relax with a glass of wine, admiring the views framed in the full-height windows. The compact but well-stocked kitchen is ideal for romantic dinners at home, while the lush rainfall shower is just the ticket after a balmy day by the sea. 

Of course, days here are best spent wandering along the traditional pier, snacking on fish and chips at Goodrington Sands and dipping your toes in Tor Bay. The beach is a mere 100 metres away, but if you're keen on exploring a bit further, you'll find the South West Coast Path, Torquay and Exeter are just a short journey by car.

Enjoy all your meals on the sunny terrace during the summer months, gaze out across the sea and even watch the steam trains go about their business at the local heritage railway. It's just a walk or a short drive to Broadsands Beach, and you can choose between heading out for a day at Paignton Zoo, visiting Brixham Harbour or even grabbing your clubs for a game of golf nearby – it's all within easy striking distance.

Upon the English Riviera, staying in the warm climate of the sophisticated town of Torquay feels like the equivalent of Cannes. Hop off a yacht at Torquay Marina and take an eighteen-minute stroll to this fabulous apartment, fit for any VIP. Upon arrival, your host will have a bottle of wine waiting for you. Before you even start exploring this modern flat, pour yourself a glass and say cheers to the start of the holiday. Do you like a home with a view? Because this one offers several. From its many large windows, you can spot the bay, beaches, harbours, the marina, and of course the big blue sea itself. On a sunny day, we recommend taking a bowl of olives and a chilled prosecco out to the private balcony – pop up the parasol if it gets too hot. Indoors, pristine white and cream interiors make the space feel fresh, with a mint-green sofa which you can sink into after a long day of beachside activities. South Devon might feel distinctly Mediterranean, but you’ll certainly enjoy ending the day with a refreshing cup of Earl Grey.

Inside, the place is fresh and funky – we loved the pastel pink furnishings and bold accent walls. Soak up the warm sunshine on the terrace before slipping on your sandals and strolling along the South West Coast Path.

If the gentle trickle of water helps you relax and you're a lover of the great outdoors, this fabulous home is sure to delight you. Right next to a narrow part of the River Harbourne, which leads to the Dart, it's a converted fruit barn with bags of character and more than its fair share of chic styling. 

Built around 1825 and once a rubble ruin, the home has been completely modernised, with plenty of contemporary luxuries blending with the building's original structures. We love the extended kitchen and dining space, where beams and exposed stone walls give way to gunmetal grey patio doors and a glass ceiling.

Designed to be cosy for four but with the option of adding two children in the spacious master suite, it's a beautiful home with several standout features. As well as the modern log burner in the sitting room, there's the private garden beside the river, the high-spec kitchen, glamorous bathrooms and comfy beds. On the outskirts of a village near Totnes, you'll be ideally positioned to access all of the South Hams easily by car. And keen walkers can head off to Totnes, Tuckenhay, Cornworthy and more. There are two good pubs within walking distance and the nearby Sharpham Estate has a great farm shop.

This is a barn conversion in which the standard of the renovation has been of such quality that it's nigh-on impossible to picture its functional past. Set in twenty-six acres of Devon countryside, the building has been given some hi-tech features, including a ground-source heating system and an intelligent lighting system, as well as a lot of large glass windows that make the space a lot brighter than could be expected of an old barn. Our favourite space has to be the mezzanine lounge, reached via a glass spiral staircase and with a skylight on one side that's perfect for stargazing. The large kitchen looks the picture of modernity, but there's an Aga in place for a touch of rusticness. Stepping outside, there's a large patio area complete with an alfresco dining table, barbecue and fire pit, so you can sit out here on summer evenings and bask in the spectacular view of Longcombe Valley. The medieval town of Totnes can be reached in seven minutes in the car and offers plenty of quaint shops and restaurants to explore. Paignton Beach is a seventeen-minute drive away, too.

The large windows throughout the home light up the space as you play on the vintage arcade table that offers the classical Space Invaders and Pacman. Whoever gets to sleep in the Captain's Cabin bedroom gets a gorgeous view of the surrounding harbour right from the comfort of their own bed – imagine waking up next to that blissful sight every morning.

The beautiful yet convenient location makes this the perfect place to reside on a family getaway to a seaside town. There's a fantastic selection of eateries by the harbour front as well as a cosy pub that serves delicious local produce. Wander the streets of Brixham to discover a ton of local hidden gems and treat yourself to sugary sweet treats and savory snacks.

Although the classic sitcom Fawlty Towers gave the impression that accommodation in Torquay left much to be desired, this majestic townhouse completely dispels that notion. 

Having been renovated in 2022, the design brings together boldly patterned wallpaper, a smattering of antique furnishings, some well-chosen pieces of artwork and tufted furnishings to create an interior that feels traditional but far from stale. The bright blue tiling in the bathroom is rather fetching, too

It must be said that the standout features are found in the garden, which is filled with flowers during the warmer months. As well as offering plenty of seating out on the terrace, there's also a hot tub in which you can pass summer evenings.

If the weather gods are smiling down upon you during your stay, the shingle beach at Anstey's Cove can be reached in under fifteen minutes, while Babbacombe Beach takes ten minutes more than that. The Kent Cavern caves are only eight minutes away on foot, too.

Within the popular beach town of Paignton, this home is ideally located for exploring North Devon. You’ll be able to stroll down to sandy Goodrington Beach in just seven minutes – from there, admire the unusual red colour of the sand and go for a walk along the pretty pier. While in town, why not pick up some fresh produce to cook on the barbecue for the ultimate British summertime meal back home. Upon your return, knock up a few light bites in the swanky kitchen before sipping bubbly on your private glass-fronted balcony – we can vouch for the sea views. Come evening, enjoy an al fresco dinner or watch the sun go down over the water with a glass of chilled wine. While you won’t have it all to yourself, the large pool will be a welcomed sight on sunny days. However, the real highlight of this home is access to the neighbouring boating lake which lets you hire out swam boats and bob along the peaceful waterway below. Bliss.

This apartment's showstopping feature is its idyllic view of Paignton harbour, complete with boats bobbing about in the sea and the town of Torquay visible in the distance. This postcard-perfect panorama can be enjoyed from the bay window in the living room or out on the home's large, private terrace, which also has seating for an alfresco supper. Though naturally overshadowed by what's happening outside, this home's interior is well worth closer inspection, too. The stark white walls reflect the copious amounts of natural light nicely and the tiled kitchen is welcomingly sleek, too. The two bathrooms have a bath and a shower, and although it may only be a small thing, we certainly appreciate having the choice. When you're ready for a day out, there's plenty going on in the immediate locale. The red sand of Fairy Cove is just two minutes' walk away, although there's a wealth of other nearby beaches to choose from, too. The park at Roundham Head is a lovely spot for coastal views and can be reached in under ten minutes on foot.

Sitting just a short walk from Torquay Beach, this apartment boasts a stellar location. Though the interiors are fairly simple and it might feel a little cramped with four guests, it’s perfectly practical for a coastal stay. After a day strolling along the promenade or soaking up the sun on the beach, you’ll enjoy unwinding in the cosy living room with a glass of wine – though keep in mind the sofa bed will accommodate your third and fourth guests. From here, you’ll be able to enjoy the Torquay Seafront, seafood restaurants and watersports on offer, while boat trips can be taken from Torquay Harbour.

It’s all about the seafront location here – just moments from the sands of Torquay Beach this minimal apartment provides an ocean view from your private balcony. Everyone loves a home with a story, and this former coastguard's cottage overlooking Torbay must have many. It's been standing here on the clifftop since the 18th Century, just steps from the seven-acre nature reserve of Daddyhole Plain. Complete with the old 'coastguard hammer', once used to wake the men when needed at sea, it's been through a careful and stylish renovation lately – resulting in a stunning home in a knockout location.

Entering through the tile-floored lobby, you first come to the open-plan living and dining room.
