On warm afternoons, spill out onto the terrace for barbecues in the balmy sunshine. Or why not pack a picnic and enjoy a bite to eat in Coronation Park, a five-minute walk away. If you’d like to learn more about the local history, visit the Dartmouth Museum before exploring Bayard’s Cove Fort. 

And of course, no trip to southwest England would be complete without a day at the beach, so slap on your sun cream and make haste to the Blue Flag Award-winning Blackpool Sands, just a ten-minute drive from your doorstep.

On the outskirts of a village near Totnes, you'll be ideally positioned to access all of the South Hams easily by car. And keen walkers can head off to Totnes, Tuckenhay, Cornworthy and more. There are two good pubs within walking distance and the nearby Sharpham Estate has a great farm shop.

Picturesque Paignton, located on the western shores of Tor Bay, is one of Devon’s most delightful destinations – Tor Bay is well-known for its many beautiful beaches, vibrant towns and stunning surrounding scenery. If you fancy venturing a little further afield, the rugged landscape of Dartmoor and the sensational South Hams are also only a short drive away.

How annoying is it when you pack everything for an afternoon on the beach and make the journey over, before realising you've forgotten something crucial? At this home, Paignton Beach sits less than a hundred metres from the front door, so you can pop back in no time at all.

That may be the apartment's biggest perk, but there's more to the address than its proximity to Tor Bay. We've got a lot of praise for the contemporary design entirely absent of nautical kitsch – just lots of natural light, sleek tiling, and soothing white walls. Perhaps some might see the open living space as a little too limited in size, but there's just enough space in here for small groups to relax and cook modest meals.

Aside from the nearby stretch of sand, there are seafront pubs and the town's Victorian Pier with which to get acquainted, while the famous South West Coast Path runs close by the house and continues in both directions for dramatically beautiful walking routes.

King of the Sandcastle

This restored barn makes the perfect setting for a refreshing rural escape. Surrounded by the beautiful Devon countryside, you’ll find easy access to walking trails as well as the picturesque village of Dittisham – just a mile away. And while days can be spent exploring, by night you’ll love returning home to relax by the wood-burning fire. Pets are welcome to join you during your stay, plus there is a large private garden with outdoor seating – perfect for summer evening drinks. 

Trinity Barn

This stylish flat with peeks of Torquay Harbour is the perfect seaside escape. Here, the seagulls will organise your morning wake-up call, so treat yourself to a cup of tea and an extra thirty minutes in bed. Lie back and listen to the sound of lapping waves and the gentle knocks of butting moored boats; breathing in the salty sea breeze that drifts through your open window. After a hearty breakfast whipped up in your own kitchenette, it’s time to explore the English Riviera. You’re a ten-minute walk from Torquay Beach and a hop, skip and jump from a clamour of continental cafes, trendy boutiques and waterside cocktail bars. When you return home salt-tinged and worn out, fall back into that sumptuous chocolate brown sofa before tucking into hot fish and chips on the balcony, watching the sunset melt across the port.

Step inside this recently modernised Victorian home that's set on one of Kingswear’s most sought-after roads, in the very heart of the village and almost touching the water. With its glass-front, the recent remodel maximises the wonderful views of the River Dart and offers splendid visions all the way out to sea. The open-plan concept and seamless transition of indoor to outdoor living creates a comfortable and luxurious space for those that need a few days of solid rest and recuperation. There's a dash of retro here, with a 1950s inspired long table, and bright and bold colours in the bedrooms. Enjoy a soak in the freestanding tub, feel your toes get toasty in front of the fire, and, as always, be sure to explore your beautiful surroundings. In our opinion, this home is a beautiful landmark of the Devon coastline, away from the busy tourist-heavy beaches – it's the idyllic summer getaway.
