This bright and gorgeous cabin is equipped with everything you need to relax and tune into nature, starting with the covered outdoor hot tub and a bright open-plan living space that will protect you from the elements. During the colder months, the wood-burning stove provides the perfect atmosphere for a night in, and the fact that the cabin is encased in glass from two sides means that you'll always have a great view of the countryside. The nearby village of Holcombe Rogus has lots of beautiful nature to explore. However, it's a great jumping-off point for trips further afield. The city of Exeter is only a twenty-minute drive away if you want to spend an afternoon in a more urban environment, while day trips to the stunning beaches of the north and south coasts are well within reach, as are Exmoor and Dartmoor national parks.

Gather your ensemble for a feast in the grand mid-night blue dining area. The two living and dining rooms are bright and light, each with a wood burner and plenty of logs to keep things cosy. Each bedroom has been individually styled with a blend of navy and sage green walls, and you'll find modern up-cycled furniture throughout to make you feel like you’re in a boutique hotel. If you fancy a tipple, there's a well-stocked honesty bar. The cottages are set within three acres of private land made up of rolling green hills, flower-filled meadows and tree-studded, landscaped gardens. It's utterly idyllic and you’ll struggle to tear yourself away – but if you can muster up the energy, the bustling market town of Honiton is around six miles away, and Branscombe Beach is a thirty-minute drive from home.

Outside, you’ll have a pretty garden to chill out in, with a hot tub and outdoor furniture. It's worth pointing out that the owner's accommodation is upstairs.

Good things come to those who wait. Four hundred years ago, this cottage was a barn, but it has recently been converted to become the picturesque dwelling you'll find today. Tucked away in three acres of idyllic land, it's surrounded by wildflower meadows, rolling green hills and beautifully landscaped gardens in the heart of Devon’s glorious countryside. If you’re looking for somewhere totally private yet utterly indulgent, this is it. The interior has some grand original features (wooden beams, vaulted ceilings and a cosy wood-burner with an abundance of logs) as well as thoughtful, modern design touches (bold geometric-print cushions, sage green walls, upcycled furniture and industrial-style wall lamps). We don’t say this lightly, but a perfect night’s sleep is all but guaranteed thanks to the exceptional quality bedding (which has the same thread count as the sheets used at The Dorchester Hotel) and a cocktail or two courtesy of the honesty bar. Hic. The spectacular craggy coastline of south Devon is half an hour's drive away, while the bustling market town of Honiton takes about half that time to reach.

Felicity Orchard is a private affair. The huge enclosed garden offers stunning green views over the surrounding fields, as well as several hangouts where you can put your feet up and relax — from the little dining spot to the luxurious jacuzzi (this is covered, so you can enjoy the water and the fresh air whatever the weather). You'll also be sharing your space with some beautiful flowering fruit trees, so you're more than encouraged to grab an apple in the morning when the season is right. The insides are all open-plan so that you always have the best natural light, and in the evenings, you can curl up with a good book by the wood-burning stove when the weather is chilly. Nearby, you’ll find the beginning of the Grand Union Canal, which makes for a great walk. As you can see, there's always plenty to do in the area, but you can also drive to Exeter if you're in the mood for some urban exploration.

It's a scene best admired from the beautifully maintained suntrap garden, which you'll have all for yourselves. Inside, there's an obligatory fireplace to curl up beside with your four-legged friends, and upstairs, discover two traditionally styled bedrooms perfectly in keeping with the home's character. You'll need a car to explore here as there are no local amenities in your nearest village, Bishops Nympton. But Exmoor's vast beaches and the vibrant market town of South Molton are just a short drive away.

Perched in an elevated position overlooking the peaceful rolling scenery of fields home to animals grazing, nature-filled woodland, and a hilltop 15th-century church on the horizon – this home frames its designs around the magnificent views before you. Keen to draw your attention to the picturesque natural beauty here, the host even supplies a pair of binoculars so that you can search for animals and owls, in particular, flying through the night sky. 

With luxurious home comforts throughout, the space feels like a warm hug as you retreat here after a day in the countryside. From log burner fireplaces to underfloor heating (on the ground floor) and an array of cosy blankets – cuddling up here couldn't be more humbling. 

In addition to comfort, convenience and practicality are also at the heart of what makes it so special. For example, you'll find a boot room and utility area, handy for storing your raincoats and mucky shoes after a countryside stroll or adventure in the likes of Exmoor National Park. Just a few hundred metres away from the village of Bishop Nympton, you'll find a village shop and post office should you need them. Meanwhile, the market town of South Molton is only a 3-mile drive away, where you'll find an array of independent shops and a supermarket.

Say hello to peace, privacy and picturesque views at this stunning 17th-century cottage squirrelled away in the east Devon countryside. A former barn that has been lovingly transformed into a stylish yet homely retreat, the traditional features – think a flickering wood burner, exposed beams and a vaulted ceiling that makes for a striking focal point – mixed up with trendy and modern flourishes. We loved the eclectic artwork on the walls, the bold navy paintwork in the master bedroom and the cool upcycled furniture. Take a moment to admire your surroundings and you’ll be mightily impressed. The rolling Blackdown Hills – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty no less – landscaped gardens and wildflower meadows make up the three acres of private land on the estate. Swap the bucolic countryside for the seaside with a thirty-minute drive to the Jurassic Coast. In the evenings, we can’t think of anywhere better than back at home in the open-plan living room with a cocktail from the honesty bar. Throw another log on the fire, and relax.

Set among twenty-five acres of grounds in the Devon countryside, this Victorian manor house is a real showstopper in which charming period features rub shoulders quite happily with modern amenities.

Among the manicured garden, you'll find a saltwater swimming pool that's heated by solar panels, a tennis court surrounded by Rhodendrum bushes and corners with orchards and vegetable patches — not to mention a Grade II-listed grotto. If rain cancels play at any point, you can always head into the barn that's been converted into a dance-studio-come-yoga-space. In here, there's also a well-equipped gym, an infra-red sauna and a games room to keep you busy.

That's before we've even got to the home itself. It's hard not to be instantly wowed by the grand dining room, double-aspect living rooms and hallway complete with a baby grand piano. Upstairs, there are bedrooms to suit every design taste, from four-poster beds straight out of a period drama to more contemporary options.

Although there's plenty to keep you occupied without leaving the address, the excellent location gives you heaps more options. There are a pair of pubs and a restaurant in the surrounding village of Chumleigh, while both Westward Ho! and Saunton Sands beaches take fifty minutes to reach in the car. There are walking routes galore in the surrounding Devon countryside, too.

Between the undulating green hills of Devon lies this large Tudor-esque manor, equipped with plush, comfy furniture and a traditional kitchen, very fitting for the countryside. Converted from a thatched 17th-century farmhouse, the cottage lies in the heart of a working farm, so your kids will love hanging out with the cattle and sheep. If you can peel them away from the animals, you can explore the quaint villages around Exmoor and browse the boutiques of South Molton. Back in the home, admire the exposed wood floor and make use of the AGA to feel like you're in yesteryear (breaking the illusion is the games console that'll keep the little ones entertained). Velvet curtains, a woodburner and an antique rocking horse add those grand yet homely touches.

Nestled in thirty-eight acres of private woodland and parkland, you'll find this Grade II-listed estate, It's well-known in the area for its beauty and tranquility, making this home a great option for those who want their holiday residence to be quiet and peaceful. 

Part of a manor house, this wing has been brilliantly taken care of since Elizabethan times and has recently been refurbished. Along with some original features that emphasise the rural charm, you'll notice plenty of wood, mood lighting, and high-quality soft furnishings where you can lounge and relax. Every room has a view of the scenic surroundings that are yours to explore – the host has told us that you might see a red deer or a rare bird on your morning walks around the pond. 

It would be easy to while away an eternity in this unique corner of Devon, but there's plenty to see and do in the wider area too. A twenty-minute drive will bring you to Exmoor National Park, where you can go hiking, mountain biking, or even try your hand at rock climbing and canoeing. And, if you're craving a day at the beach, then the north Devon coastline is close by – you can arrive at the surfer town of Westward Ho! in under an hour by car.

Sitting within an International Dark Skies Reserve, you’ll be treated to starry skies on a clear evening – the bedroom even has a stargazing window so you can view the night sky from the comfort of the suspended bed. We love the characterful features here, like the hand-crafted sliding bedroom door and the oak breakfast bar. While the kitchenette is small, it’s got everything you need to whip up a light bite or snack, and for heartier meals, you’ll find a variety of cafes, pubs, and restaurants nearby. Location-wise, you’ve got the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and Tiverton with its canals and castle, within easy driving distance.

Stargazing in Burlescombe

Step into the shoes of a lord or lady and soak up the grandeur of this country house set in 32 acres of countryside. The farmhouse-style kitchen has a classic AGA stove – try out that recipe you’ve been saving and enjoy your hard work in the dining room with views extending into the conservatory. The drawing room is perfect for socialising over a glass of locally-produced wine, while the billiards table makes for a fun post-dinner activity. Take a stroll in the gardens, complete with a Monet-inspired bridge over a lake. Located in the quaint village of Combe Raleigh, you can explore Honiton and its lace shops or take a short drive to the Jurassic Coast.

Each of the two bedrooms offers excellent views over the private Italianate courtyard and top lake that makes up part of the sprawling thirty-two-acre shared grounds, providing the ideal vistas to wake up to each morning. 

Enjoy breakfast in the traditional country kitchen before you head out for the day. Wander the acres of lawns, woods, and pasture, as you take a leisurely stroll around the lake with your furry four-legged friend, or venture to the nearby Honiton – a historic town packed with antique shops, and great bridleways for scenic walks. What’s more, Exeter – with its well-known racecourse and cultural centre featuring a beautiful cathedral – isn’t far away either. 

For dinnertime, return home, fire up the barbecue, and dine alfresco in the Italianate courtyard, which is accompanied by lake views. When the evening grows chilly, head back inside via the large wooden entry doors. Then, slip into the soothing waters with the Victorian slipper bath, or curl up on the sofa, cosy and warm in front of the electric wood-burning stove.

This marvellous barn conversion ticks all the boxes for a fantastic stay in Devon. With plenty of room, lots of style, and a wonderful location in Dartmoor National Park, you're guaranteed to have a great time here. 

The high vaulted ceilings and wooden beams remind you of the building's former use, while the clean colour palette brings it firmly into the 21st century. You'll love lighting the wood burner and getting cosy on the sofa with a glass of wine on winter evenings. Or, if the sun is shining, head outside onto the patio for an alfresco feast hot off the charcoal barbeque. And, there's even a games room where you can finish off the evening with a round of snooker. 

Hikers and cyclists will be in their element, with all of the sprawling Dartmoor National Park to explore. History fans can visit the nearby Castle Drogo and the iron age forts and stone circles scattered across the moorland. And, if you're missing the hustle and bustle, you can drive into Exeter, the ancient city on the River Exe, in around half an hour.

Perfect for a romantic rural retreat for two, this home drops you in the heart of nature. While the owner lives in the neighbouring home, you won’t be disturbed, and with 8 acres of private woodland to explore, you won’t get bored here. Keen to relax and just soak up your surroundings? Head to the private lake, a bottle of wine in hand, for some quiet time with your loved one. If you’re lucky, you may even spot some local red deer and otters, too.

One glance at this thatched arts and crafts style cottage and you'll feel like you've stumbled into a fairytale. But instead of a faraway kingdom, you'll find this cosy homestead nestled in a quiet corner at the edge of Dartmoor National Park. It's the perfect place to escape to the country – one glance at those striking views over the Teign Valley from the private garden and you'll never want to return to the bustle of city life (we sure didn't). Inside, the magic continues, with an inviting sitting room perfect for family time and a country-style kitchen that has everything you'll need to rustle up a meal. We loved the welcome hamper – host Charles leaves bread, jam, local milk and even fresh flowers to make you feel right at home – and the delightful touches like board games and DVDs provide plenty of entertainment. Enjoy a family game night in front of the fire, curl up with a book in the cushy armchair or spend a chilled evening snuggled up with your favourite films. During the day, don your walking shoes and hit the nearby trails, then, following an afternoon of rambling, reward yourself with a well-earned pint at one of the local pubs. Or, if you'd prefer a bit more liveliness, Exeter is only a twenty-minute drive away.

Rock House Cottage

This exquisitely renovated bakehouse provides a sweet escape amidst the glorious rolling hills and wooded valleys of East Devon. It sits in the lovely village of Musbury, within walking distance of the local shop and pub and just a twelve-minute drive from Lyme Regis and its spectacular Jurassic coastline. 

The interior strikes the perfect balance between contemporary comfort and authentic charm. Look closely, and you'll spot ample inklings of this home's storied past, from the beam-clad ceilings to the Juliet balcony, where flour bags were once hauled from the loft below. On the first floor, the open-plan living area is blessed by heaps of natural light, offering a free-flowing canvas of calm with lofty vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors and partially exposed stone walls. Plush sofas huddle around the wood-burning fireplace – a lovely space for chilly evenings – while the fully-equipped kitchen and diner offer direct access to the garden. Enclosed for privacy and boasting a lush lawn, the outdoor space beckons you to unwind in the fresh air. Let the dog roam free here and, after long walks through the countryside, fire up the barbecue and gather on the pretty terrace for a delicious alfresco feast.

This fantastic Victorian villa in the English Riviera is the perfect home for family holidays. Located in Paignton, this home is only a short walk from many great activities including Paignton Beach – a nineteen-minute walk away – where you will find the pier, the Geopark, a fairy cove, pirates bay adventure golf, and even a multiplex cinema perfect for those typical rainy British days. What’s more, Splashdown water park is a short nine-minute walk away and Torbay Leisure Centre – with its pool, gym and squash courts – is reachable in twelve minutes on foot.

Your little ones will love letting off steam in the home’s large, enclosed garden too, with the kid's swing, trampoline, treehouse, football goal and pirate boat. Meanwhile, you can relax on the garden bench with a good book or enjoy an afternoon Devonshire cream tea alfresco at the outdoor dining area. 

When it’s time to come indoors, head from the decked veranda through the French doors into the living space. Curl up on the sofa to watch a family film and even make it cosier with the wood-burning stove, which can be lit for additional warmth or roasting marshmallows. Your little ones hopefully won’t object to bedtime with the twin rooms one of which is Star Wars-themed and the other which features a dollhouse mounted on the wall and a whimsical fairy wall hanging to decorate. We can’t promise they’ll want to stop playing and go to sleep though.

This is a barn conversion in which the standard of the renovation has been of such quality that it's nigh-on impossible to picture its functional past. Set in twenty-six acres of Devon countryside, the building has been given some hi-tech features, including a ground-source heating system and an intelligent lighting system, as well as a lot of large glass windows that make the space a lot brighter than could be expected of an old barn. Our favourite space has to be the mezzanine lounge, reached via a glass spiral staircase and with a skylight on one side that's perfect for stargazing. The large kitchen looks the picture of modernity, but there's an Aga in place for a touch of rusticness.
