You'll find a hot tub, patio table and chairs outside, so in the warmer months, you can sit and enjoy the sunshine for hours. And with all there is to do around here, you may not make it inside until bedtime. You'll have use of the tennis court, orchard picnic area, basketball hoop, woodland, nature reserve and river beach. Your hosts can also hook you up with discounted tickets to the Lost Gardens of Heligan or organise remarkable experiences such as foraging workshops, paddleboarding, spa treatments or afternoon tea. Did we mention that some of Cornwalls most gorgeous beaches are just thirteen miles away? Outside, you’ll have a pretty garden to chill out in, with a hot tub and outdoor furniture. It's worth pointing out that the owner's accommodation is upstairs.

From the peaceful garden and terrace to the cosy living room with a wood burning fire, it’s easy to settle in and make it your own. And when it comes to entertainment, you’ll find a piano, table tennis, board games and a private gym. There's also 12 acres of private grounds to explore and you'll find beautiful hiking trails straight from the door. Plus, it’s just a fifteen-minute drive to Exeter city centre, while Dartmoor and the coast are also within easy reach. 


Wineberry Cottage

Perfect for a romantic rural retreat for two, this home drops you in the heart of nature. While the owner lives in the neighbouring home, you won’t be disturbed, and with 8 acres of private woodland to explore, you won’t get bored here. Keen to relax and just soak up your surroundings? Head to the private lake, a bottle of wine in hand, for some quiet time with your loved one. If you’re lucky, you may even spot some local red deer and otters, too. 

Wildflower Letters

Good things come to those who wait. Four hundred years ago, this cottage was a barn, but it has recently been converted to become the picturesque dwelling you'll find today. Tucked away in three acres of idyllic land, it's surrounded by wildflower meadows, rolling green hills and beautifully landscaped gardens in the heart of Devon’s glorious countryside. If you’re looking for somewhere totally private yet utterly indulgent, this is it. The interior has some grand original features (wooden beams, vaulted ceilings and a cosy wood-burner with an abundance of logs) as well as thoughtful, modern design touches (bold geometric-print cushions, sage green walls, upcycled furniture and industrial-style wall lamps). We don’t say this lightly, but a perfect night’s sleep is all but guaranteed thanks to the exceptional quality bedding (which has the same thread count as the sheets used at The Dorchester Hotel) and a cocktail or two courtesy of the honesty bar. Hic. The spectacular craggy coastline of south Devon is half an hour's drive away, while the bustling market town of Honiton takes about half that time to reach.

Green Green Grass of Home

This exquisitely renovated bakehouse provides a sweet escape amidst the glorious rolling hills and wooded valleys of East Devon. It sits in the lovely village of Musbury, within walking distance of the local shop and pub and just a twelve-minute drive from Lyme Regis and its spectacular Jurassic coastline. 

The interior strikes the perfect balance between contemporary comfort and authentic charm. Look closely, and you'll spot ample inklings of this home's storied past, from the beam-clad ceilings to the Juliet balcony, where flour bags were once hauled from the loft below. On the first floor, the open-plan living area is blessed by heaps of natural light, offering a free-flowing canvas of calm with lofty vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors and partially exposed stone walls. Plush sofas huddle around the wood-burning fireplace – a lovely space for chilly evenings – while the fully-equipped kitchen and diner offer direct access to the garden. Enclosed for privacy and boasting a lush lawn, the outdoor space beckons you to unwind in the fresh air. Let the dog roam free here and, after long walks through the countryside, fire up the barbecue and gather on the pretty terrace for a delicious alfresco feast.

The Old Bakery

Located in the picturesque village of Harrowbarrow, with sweeping views of the Cornish countryside and Tamar Valley, this Grade II-listed building is sure to impress. Inside, it’s thoroughly up to date with a sleek white and grey colour scheme. The double-height ceilings and clever use of glass make the place feel extra spacious and bright, while a wood-burning stove adds a sense of cosiness. When the weather is on your side, spill out onto the south facing patio for sunshine all day long. After a tasty barbecue lunch, ramble through Kit Hill Country Park or take the thirty-five-minute drive down to Tregantle Beach for wind-whipped walks along the unspoilt sands. Come home in the late afternoon, salty-haired and ravenous, and dig into hearty fare at the traditional pub, just a fifteen-minute stroll from your doorstep. 

The Chaplain

The fact that this timber-framed building is fuelled exclusively by renewable resources and built with ecology in mind makes staying here even sweeter. This bright and gorgeous cabin is equipped with everything you need to relax and tune into nature, starting with the covered outdoor hot tub and a bright open-plan living space that will protect you from the elements. During the colder months, the wood-burning stove provides the perfect atmosphere for a night in, and the fact that the cabin is encased in glass from two sides means that you'll always have a great view of the countryside. The nearby village of Holcombe Rogus has lots of beautiful nature to explore. However, it's a great jumping-off point for trips further afield. The city of Exeter is only a twenty-minute drive away if you want to spend an afternoon in a more urban environment, while day trips to the stunning beaches of the north and south coasts are well within reach, as are Exmoor and Dartmoor national parks.

Rogo

Fancy staying in your own private country estate? Then you’ll love this Grade II listed manor house in Devon. The décor oozes Georgian splendour with vaulted ceilings, exposed stone walls and a Gothic reception hall. There’s even a separate annex in the east wing, which offers a sense of privacy for large group stays. You can expect stately living areas to gather in with friends and family, complete with roaring fireplaces, a grand piano and banquet table fit for a feast. 

Take long walks around the sprawling, 38-acre grounds, exploring woodlands home to gurgling streams and red deer. Afternoons are made for enjoying decadent afternoon teas on the sunny, south-facing patio while soaking up the countryside views – your host can even help arrange a hot tub on request. If you can drag yourself away, take day trips to explore Exmoor and Dartmoor’s unspoilt national parks. Kids will also love the pristine Blue Flag beaches in North Devon, which are just a short drive away. 

A Royal Banquet

With features dating back to the sixteenth century, a stay at this former farmhouse epitomises a Devon country retreat. Within the grounds, you’ve got a shared indoor swimming pool, games room and playparks aplenty for the kids. Feeding sessions at the animal enclosures take place in the morning where you can get close to the alpacas, piglets and pygmy goats. And there’s an honesty shop onsite too, selling delights like eggs straight from the farm, home-cooked ready meals and barbecue meat packs. If you want to explore the wider area, Combe Martin is a five-minute drive away with a couple of local pubs and a supermarket, and Combe Martin’s beach is just a ten-minute drive.

The home itself dated back to the sixteenth century and you can feel this history in the old beams, minstrel’s gallery above the living room and listed staircase inside. Decor touches like an old spinning wheel, suspended aviary and antique writer’s bureau bring that old-world feel back into the bones of the home and the living room is set around a traditional old stove set in stonework. The huge kitchen is designed farmhouse-style with a big range cooker and island in the centre surrounded by high chairs. The master bedroom features a carved four-posted bed and each bedroom is decorated with antique darkwoork furniture and Victoriana accents. 

Outside a delightful surprise awaits. A bubbling hot tub overlooks the gardens and out to the rolling hills beyond. There’s also dining for the group on the patio, courtesy of a barbecue and perhaps a hamper of locally-sourced meat from the honesty shop onsite.
