And as much as this is a haven for golfing enthusiasts, it’s also the ideal location for beach lovers who get to spend sun-drenched days on Westward Ho! Beach. You can see those very shores from the perched hot tub in the backyard. Ease yourself into the warm water with a glass of wine and enjoy the views as you relax after a day of activity. 

Inside, find plush furnishings in muted greys, greens, and blues that come alive in the natural light of the large windows. There’s an understated elegance that works beautifully alongside the modern and homely elements of this home. You can probably see yourself at the kitchen counter, enjoying a cup of coffee as you wait for the rest of the group to join you at the dining table for breakfast. 

We recommend at least one long, luxurious bubble bath in the clawfoot bath, and why not savour a glass of Prosecco as you take in the views from the small window right next to the tub?

Just a few metres from the River Torridge, this home is tucked down a narrow cobbled lane in the heart of postcard-pretty Appledore. It might look like a cute and cosy fisherman's cottage from the outside, but step inside and you'll find three floors of pure luxury. 

Let's start up top, where the converted attic is home to the main bedroom. Striking wooden beams adorn the ceiling, giving a rustic vibe to an otherwise modern and understated decor. Two more stylish bedrooms and a lavish family bathroom – complete with an absolutely lush claw foot, roll top bath – make up the first floor.

On the ground level, the plush lounge has a fireplace for snuggling up on chilly English evenings, while the French doors open up to a heated courtyard which is simply divine – we can't think of a better spot to while away summer evenings, sipping wine and nibbling on snacks rustled up in the glossy kitchen.

This home is perfectly positioned for adventures around North Devon. Enjoy a stroll along the river, followed by a tour of the North Devon Maritime Museum (a four-minute walk away). For lunch, try the seaside rite of passage – steaming hot fish and chips and an ice cream cone for dessert. If it's the beach you crave, drive ten minutes to Westward Ho! – a Blue Flag beach where the kids can try watersports while you pitch a parasol and relax on the golden sands.

It might be shaped like a traditional wooden beach hut, but this new build home is bursting with everything you could need for a perfect stay in Devon. The bedrooms are downstairs, which might seem unusual at first, but trust us – French doors lead you from the master bedroom out to the hot tub, where you can indulge in a glass of wine or gaze up at the stars. Upstairs, the open-plan kitchen and living area has high ceilings, emphasizing the light and roomy atmosphere. Westward Ho! has an array of boutiques, restaurants and pubs to enjoy, and the sweeping sandy beach, just a fifteen-minute walk away, is ideal for leisurely sunset strolls, surfing or simply relaxing. A short five-minute car ride will take you to other exciting spots – the village of Appledore is well worth a visit – while those who want to spend the day on the fairways will be just a two-minute walk from the Royal North Devon Golf Club.

The apartment is on the second floor, so the views of the estuary are gorgeous from dawn until dusk. And when the sun sets, there’s a telescope ready for stargazing in the clear skies – you could spend your whole stay looking out of the huge windows. 

When you can tear your eyes away from the view, you’ll be glad of the comfortable furnishings and thoughtful touches. You’re also just above a delicatessen and tearoom, so you needn’t travel far for a Devonshire cream tea.  

In the morning you might like to walk four minutes into the centre of Appledore, past the brightly coloured fishermen’s cottages, to visit the art galleries and craft shops. Pop into a cafe for coffee before strolling to the quay to watch the fishing boats and yachts in the distance. After lunch at the deli downstairs, hop on the small passenger ferry that whips you across the bay to Instow. There you’ll find a beautiful sandy beach – and hopefully an ice cream. Surfers will be pleased to be a nine-minute drive from the Blue Flag beach of Westward Ho!

However you spend your time, returning to the bright but cosy apartment will feel liking coming home. Sip wine in a bubble bath while someone else nips out for fish and chips, then sink onto one of the huge sofas for a night watching the stars.

With the beach amenities of Westward Ho! just a flip-flop away, a car isn’t necessary here. Just a few metres from the beach at Instow, it won’t take you long to feel right at home in this seaside villa.

The open-plan setup is ideal for spending quality time with friends or family, whether cooking up a storm in the kitchen, sinking into the sofas or enjoying nibbles and drinks together. Folding doors lead you out onto the impressive terrace, where you can while away the hours watching the boats bobbing in the estuary. 

There’s also a second, more-compact living room, giving kids a place to chill out away from the grown-ups. It takes just a few minutes to meander down to the pubs and restaurants of Instow, and you can catch a ferry across the water to visit neighbouring Appledore during the high season. If you’d like a little more action, the nearby Tarka Trail offers fantastic cycling and walking, and the surf at Westward Ho! is fantastic for water sports. Bring your bikes and boards along, too, as there’s lockable storage for your bits and bobs here too.

If you feel like visiting a historical town, then head over to Barnstaple, under a fifteen-minute drive away, for a nice afternoon in the city centre. When – weary from wandering and ensuring you've picked up some local goods on your travels – knock up a hearty meal and get cosy on the sofa with a good book. The interior has a real classic summertime look, with its exposed wood, light blue tones and French doors. Through to the bedroom, you'll find a continuation of the main living space with tasteful artwork and a gingham throw adding to the charm of this home-sweet-home.

One of three homes on the same site, it’s the ideal base for exploring the spectacular Devonshire coast. Saunton Sands is one of Devon’s most beautiful beaches, with three miles of golden sand, and azure water. It’s as popular with surfers as families, but with such a vast stretch of beach, rarely feels crowded. The popular village of Braunton is also close by, with its many surf shops, restaurants and cafes. Enjoy a lazy lie in before heading to the beach to swim, surf and explore Braunton Burrows’ immense sand dunes. Then come back for a relaxing dunk in the hot tub and watch the sun go down on the deck with a glass of something delicious. The host welcomes pets (and Saunton Sands is dog-friendly year-round), so if you’ve got a furry friend, it’s the dream holiday.

Did somebody say beach? Few places can boast of having direct access to one of Devon's finest beaches, but from this home, you can step out of the door, through the shared garden and onto the footpath down to Saunton Sands. A garden-level apartment in a freshly converted building, it's got space, style and knockout sea views. Perfect for a family or a group of friends getting away to the coast, it's both contemporary and comfortable. 

Inside, the enormous open-plan living space is the star of the show, with a vast lounge area, dining space and a well kitted-out kitchen. Fling open the sets of doors and just breathe in that sea air. We particularly love the covered terrace, with cosy outdoor sofas so you can sip your drinks and admire the view. The master bedroom comes with an in-room freestanding bathtub and the luxurious shower room is decked out in marble, with a fabulous rainfall shower.

By day, splash and play on the beach (don't forget your surfboards – there's a place to store them here) or head to nearby Croyde and Woolacombe. Walk the sand dunes of Braunton Burrows or play a round at Saunton Golf Club, and in the evening enjoy meals together at the big dining table. It's even dog-friendly there's so no need to leave out your four-legged family members here.

Based in Westward Ho!, there's plenty to love about this modern house, suitable for up to six visitors and two dogs. Wake up in the morning to salty sea air, fuel up at the breakfast table, and do the twenty-five-minute walk to a pristine and award-winning Blue Flag beach legendary for its surf. A six-minute drive away on the coastline you'll find the Royal North Devon Golf Club – worth it for the sport as much as the glorious views and rich history. 

Back at home, the highlight has to be the double-height living room with its glorious Cathedral-style windows looking out to the private garden. This spot is positively glowing with natural light during the day. Beyond the glass doors, you’ll find a private slice of lawn and a patio with plush rattan sofas for sundowners. If you’re feeling playful there’s a ping pong table in the garage, or you can settle on the sofa with one of the books from the mini-library. And, if you venture out into the town, you'll find independent pubs and restaurants, artisanal shops, and tea rooms to enjoy.

To be honest, we knew we’d like this north Devon home when we heard about the country pub just two minutes' walk away but when we got here: wow! This is an immaculate and spotless cottage, newly renovated and decorated to provide everything guests need for a friends or family escape. We were particularly impressed with the number of living spaces – a family room, conservatory and study (for those working from home) as well as a living room and kitchen/diner. And there’s a large patio and cottage garden out back, for bright breakfasts and sunny afternoons. The hosts have thought of every eventuality: for when it’s raining there’s the smart TV, DVD player, movie library and games collection, while the wood-burner fireplace and newly installed underfloor heating ensure you’ll feel snug even on cold nights. Kids are especially well catered for with travel cot, step stool, high chair and junior dining chair as well as games, books and bath toys.The home is located between Torrington and Bideford in Devon, giving you access to walks across the rolling hills, short drives on to Dartmoor, and bucket-and-spade jaunts to the seaside. And, of course, there's that great, super-local village pub... If you’re looking for a staycation that’s a cut above the ordinary, this is a good ‘un.

Sounds dreamy, right? Well, that's a day in the life at this contemporary coastal apartment, right on the banks of Saunton Sands. 

With incredible ocean views, direct footpath access to the sandy beach and a shared terrace where you can soak it all in, this sleek apartment is the pinnacle of shoreside living. Effortlessly chic, the minimalist living space is decorated in calm greys and crisp whites. Not only is it a soothing space to retreat to after a day in the sun, but it's super roomy and drenched in light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Home cooks will have everything they need to rustle up family dinners in the glossy kitchen, but our favourite room is the elegant main bedroom, which has a lavish freestanding bathtub perfect for relaxing.

Surfers will love catching waves on Saunton Sands – there's even wetsuit and surfboard storage as well as an outdoor shower on-site. Keen walkers can trek the South West Coastal Path – it runs directly past the apartment – while golfers can hit the links at Saunton Golf Club. For pubs and restaurants, head inland to Braunton (five minutes by car), or for a change of scenery, make the fifteen-minute drive to Woolacombe.

This charming, barn-converted cottage is tucked away in Braunton village adjoining the rich sand dunes of Braunton Burrows which host a rich plant community of ferns and herbs. 

This country cottage has all the features of a rural retreat by the sea, think clean tones with blue hues, high-beamed ceilings and reclaimed white-washed furnishings. When the sun is out, open up the french doors to the Juliette balcony to invite the coastal Devonshire breeze in, or spend lunch in the soft-lawned orchard surrounded by wildflowers. When the weather isn’t playing ball, spend afternoons on the cosy sofa with the log-burning fire and a movie classic. Come rain or shine, the kitchen is ready to spring into action for picnic preparation or family-style dinners around the wooden dining table.

If you’re venturing outside the cottage, prepare for an abundance of choices - surfing lessons down on Saunton Beach (eight minutes away), cycling along the Tarka Trail, exploring the woodlands of Exmoor National Park (twenty-five minutes by car) or indulging in a local pub lunch. Surrounded by rolling countryside hills and stunning Jurassic beaches, you’ll find tranquillity and exploration in equal measure.

Seeing is believing at this slick seafront apartment offering up one of the most dramatic views of Devon's coastline we ever did see and a direct footpath to Saunton's three miles of golden sandy beach.

On wild, wintery days, watch the tide roll in with morning coffees curled up on the modular sofa. And on balmy summer nights, open up the French Crittall doors wide for alfresco drinks on the terrace - the crashing waves and blazing sunsets are spell-bounding.

Inside, there's a sharp design focus to this uber-modern aparthotel, designed by the owner, a London-based property developer. A minimalist's dream, expect clean, uncluttered spaces with underfloor heating, marble-clad bathrooms, and high-end furnishings adding a dash of luxury. 

When it's time to hit the surf, pad out across the landscaped communal gardens and follow the footpath leading you directly to one of Britain's best surfing beaches. With a surf school on your doorstep and a handy outhouse and outdoor shower for hosing down and storing all your surf paraphernalia, this is a surfer's paradise. And it's dog and family-friendly too, so all the troops are welcome here. 

Explore pretty nearby coastal spots like Croyde (seven-minute drive) and Woolacombe (eighteen-minute drive). And there's a thriving foodie scene to keep you well watered and fed – from Michelin-starred restaurants to good old-fashioned fish and chips – it's got it all going on.

Everything is Beachy

If you want some vitamin sea right on your doorstep, then this sophisticated apartment is the place to stay. Decorated in cool shades, it projects an aura of calm. Sink into the extra squashy sofas, or sip a glass of wine outside on the balcony, which overlooks the estuary where the rivers Taw and Torridge meet. Believe us when we say you can spend hours here simply watching the tides rise and fall each day.

Instow harbour is seconds away on foot, and you can easily slip from the afternoon into the evening as you visit the waterside bars and restaurants. The calmer seas around this area of the coast make it a great spot for kitesurfing, or you can take a canoeing trip on one of the rivers. But if you’re blessed with a particularly sunny day then nothing beats relaxing on Instow’s sandy beach – pack a picnic and don’t forget your beach towel.

This beautiful country home is steeped in history – the colonial-style building is Grade II listed, and it is said that former Prime Minister William Gladstone once stayed here when visiting Braunton. 

The bay window looks out onto the historic parish church, and there is an excellent village pub right next door for when you’re in need of some refreshment or a tasty pub lunch.
