Set in the heart of bustling Salcombe, this former fisherman's cottage is a delightful place to call home. As you can expect, the interior has plenty of coastal charm, though it is a tad snug upstairs. All the contemporary comforts are accounted for, be it underfloor heating or White Company toiletries. Evenings call for cocktails in the front courtyard – there's a distillery just across the street where you can sample local gin. Also within walking distance are Salcombe's artisan shops, independent eateries, and picturesque harbour, perfect for dog walks in the sun.

Just a short stroll from the centre of Salcombe, this apartment is a refreshing coastal escape. The rooms are bright and breezy, the balcony has beautiful views across the estuary and we love the sweet extras like the Sonos sound system, Netflix and The White Company toiletries. Families should note that child-friendly amenities aren’t available here and that little ones will need to be supervised in the communal garden. Still, it’s a fantastic location with easy access to East Portlemouth's beaches, as well as hiking trails through the surrounding countryside – not to mention private parking for adventures further afield.

There’s no chance of forgetting where you are when you stay in The Bowline. The nautical theme runs through the entire apartment (and when you head out, the entire town of Salcombe), but with good reason. This part of south Devon has some of the most picturesque coast in the country, so it makes sense that the area emphasises that. The apartment itself is charming, with a real homely atmosphere. It’s not huge, but if you don’t try to pack it out, it’s plenty big enough, and Diana’s hosting is top-notch, which goes a very long way.

Sunny mornings call for lazy alfresco breakfasts in your private garden to steal a glimpse of the nearby sea, hills and fields beyond. Meanwhile, kids and furry friends can run off some energy on the lawns  – the village park, just a one-minute walk away, can help with that too. 

When it's time for some seaside nostalgia, spend bucket-and-spade days down on Salcombe's sandy beaches – just a twenty-minute scenic stroll along the coastal path past the ruins of the village's castle fort. This Grade II listed cottage is a true original among the portfolio of luxury holiday homes in Salcombe. Located in a peaceful corner of Batson but still close to all the action on and off the water – you've got the best of both worlds here. The front garden captures the sun for most of the day and is perfect for morning cuppas. Add in a children's loft bedroom with a TV snug, and you can see why this home caught our eye. If nine of you are sharing, there may be some waiting around in the mornings with just two bathrooms. But in a house this stylish and with so many cosy nooks to relax, we doubt you'll be in a rush.

Push the boat out with a stay at this coastal apartment overlooking Salcombe's North Sands. The sunset views from the private terrace are a knockout, and if the weather doesn't buck up, the vistas are just as impressive curled up on the sofa in the elegant lounge. With Salcombe's iconic beach and seafront café, Winking Shrimp, just a three-minute walk from your door, you couldn't dream up a better location. However, it's worth noting the centre of Salcombe is a bit of a walk, so you might prefer to drive if you have little ones in tow.

Tucked away in a peaceful but central part of Salcombe, this home had our attention the second we caught those views. With a raised position and spread over three floors, the windows are perfect for watching the town’s iconic harbour. Downstairs, the large living space combines the dining room, kitchen, and living room, meaning guests can easily break off into smaller groups while still being together. Nearby, the adventurous can try crabbing along Victoria Quay or even have a go at paddle boarding. You’ll also want to take advantage of the free parking permit, ideal for exploring even more of Devon’s stunning coastline.

The Seashells for Days

Overlooking the Salcombe estuary, the peaceful outdoor area of this stunning duplex home gives way to some of the most beautiful views of the water and the ferries sailing upon it. With a charcoal barbecue and ample seating, alfresco dining seems an obvious choice when you're not stopping off at one of the waterfront inns. Though the sloping ceilings might bother taller guests, the first floor allows for a little more stretch. That's a check on comfort, location and aesthetics, which only leaves who gets to sit on the egg chair up for debate.

Seeking a seaside getaway in central Salcombe? This dog-friendly home sits on Victoria Quay within strolling distance of bars, eateries, and crabbing spots. Ideal for couples or small families, you'll find a topsy-turvy layout inside, with two bedrooms as you enter. Upstairs, the living area centres around a sun-trapping terrace, perfect for hanging out with harbour-facing views. Though a parking permit is provided to make exploring easier, unguaranteed spaces are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Beach fans will be pleased to know Salcombe North Sands is reached in twenty-five minutes by foot or seven minutes by car. Inside, expect views over the estuary from the living area and a well-equipped kitchen for easy cooking and entertaining. As the cottage is spread over three floors, those with limited mobility may find the stairs tricky.

This stylish four-storey home is an old brewery cottage in the centre of Salcombe, a stone's throw away from the waterfront, restaurants and shops. It boasts high vaulted ceilings, an open plan design, and three outdoor terraces with stunning views of the harbour. The top floor leads out onto all three terraces with outdoor furniture including an outdoor shower on the upper terrace. An additional garden studio with a double bed and en-suite shower room is ideal for those that like extra privacy. And the view from up here is simply sublime.
