This Grade II listed cottage is a true original among the portfolio of luxury holiday homes in Salcombe. Located in a peaceful corner of Batson but still close to all the action on and off the water – you've got the best of both worlds here. The front garden captures the sun for most of the day and is perfect for morning cuppas. Add in a children's loft bedroom with a TV snug, and you can see why this home caught our eye. If nine of you are sharing, there may be some waiting around in the mornings with just two bathrooms. But in a house this stylish and with so many cosy nooks to relax, we doubt you'll be in a rush. 

Soothing Breeze

This former writer's retreat is a luxurious woodland escape just outside the seaside town of Salcombe. The house features panoramic window walls in the upper levels, bringing the outside in and giving a tree-house feel to this elegant space. Light wooden dining tables and exposed brick walls create a simple yet chic Scandinavian feel, while the plush beds upstairs, including cute children’s bunkbeds, promise dreamy and restful nights. With two acres of grounds, you could spend hours exploring the gently winding paths and terraced gardens, before enjoying an alfresco dinner on the huge balcony that runs right along the house. Afterwards, jump into the outdoor jacuzzi, run a hot bubble bath or curl up beside the fire with a glass of wine. Venture into Salcombe to wander along the sandy beaches, stopping at the seafood shacks for snacks along the way, and watch boats bobbing in the picture-perfect harbour. There are also bracing coastal walks along the nearby South West Coast Path, and you can try your hand at water sports in the estuary. 

Year Of The Ox

You can hear the rush of ocean waves and taste the salt in the air at this charming seaside home in Torcross. First of all, there’s a private terrace, furnished with table and chairs, right on the promenade. Glass sliding doors lead from here to the living room, so you can still hear the sea from the comfort of the sofa. Beachglass-blue bowls and turquoise cushions pop against the otherwise white and cream backdrop inside. The kitchen is tucked away separately, with everything you need to cook a family meal.

On the promenade, it’s no surprise that you’re mere footsteps from the beach and there’s a charming local pub just two doors down. The South West Coastal Path runs right outside the door of this home and, if you want to explore the area by car, you’ll find Dartmouth a twenty-five-minute drive away and Salcombe half an hour away. 

Ice Cream & Sea Salt

You’ll find this timber-clad, eco-friendly home on Devon’s South Hams coastline, a forty-eight-minute drive from Plymouth and a two-minute walk from Challaborough Bay Beach. Inside the abode, expect an ocean-inspired colour scheme of deep blue, turquoise and aqua. There’s an open-plan living space that’s ideal for socialising – keep glasses topped up as conversation flows in the seating area while your group’s appointed chef cooks up a storm in the sleek kitchen. On sunny days, take your meals out on the terrace or head up to the roof deck and dine with views of the water. Once you’re refuelled and raring to go, grab your beach essentials and take the quick trip to Challaborough’s pebbled shore. Amble along the South West Coast Path for twenty-five minutes to the stunning Ayrmer Cove to find beasties in rock pools and hidden sandy spots. Return home to rinse salty wetsuits in the outdoor shower, then bundle into the snug for a movie marathon and hot cups of cocoa.

Fly Away Seabird

Just a short stroll from the centre of Salcombe, this apartment is a refreshing coastal escape. The rooms are bright and breezy, the balcony has beautiful views across the estuary and we love the sweet extras like the Sonos sound system, Netflix and The White Company toiletries. Families should note that child-friendly amenities aren’t available here and that little ones will need to be supervised in the communal garden. Still, it’s a fantastic location with easy access to East Portlemouth's beaches, as well as hiking trails through the surrounding countryside – not to mention private parking for adventures further afield.

The Sea From Here

Positioned a twenty-minute walk or six-minute drive from Blackpool Sands, this cosy period property has everything you need for a comfortable stay on the Devonshire coast. Inside, it’s modern yet classic with familiar furnishings that make the house feel just like home. Riffle through the wall of books and get lost in a paperback, stopping only to make yourself a cup of tea in the fully-equipped kitchen.

When the sun shines, spill out onto the patio for scones and jam in the afternoon or a glass or two of wine at sundown. For those who like to keep active on their holidays, there’s a tennis court a short stroll from your doorstep. But if taking it easy is more your style, relax on the nearby beach with an ice cream in hand.

Calm & Cosy

Just outside Salcombe, this two-storey home places you amongst rolling hills and an idyllic lake. The living areas, offering up incredible views, are perfect spots for relaxing after a hike, but it's outdoors where this home really comes to life – there are 2.5 acres of private gardens to explore, and the home even has its own private slipway on the lake. Fancy trying out paddleboarding? Speak with your host to arrange to hire a couple throughout your stay.

The Oasis House

In the heart of pretty Salcombe, just a minute’s walk from the harbour, this breezy apartment is the perfect base from which to explore the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dating back to the 17th century, you’ll notice vaulted ceilings and timber beams have been lovingly restored to provide timeless character among the modern comforts. The open-concept layout makes for easy entertaining – keep up with conversations as you tend to dinner in the stylish kitchen. For evenings when you’d rather hang up your apron, you’re footsteps from pubs offering hearty fare and fine ale. Spend sunny afternoons watching boats bob in the quay or pack a picnic and take the leisurely twenty-minute walk to North Salcombe Sands, where clear azure waters and rock pools teeming with crabs await. 

Harbour Breeze

More a way of life than a holiday home, this unique stay offers a wealth of outdoor activities and add-on experiences. Aimed at families who like to get out into the fresh air, it's a fabulous country house in an idyllic rural setting. Right on the River Avon, it's the perfect spot for wild swimming with a rope swing and river plunge pool in the garden. Set in its own pretty grounds, the rustic farmhouse can trace its roots back to the 12th century and has plenty of character. Stone floors, oak beams and fireplaces are topped off with comfy furnishings and a lived-in, home from home feel. We love the living room with its exposed stone wall and cosy sofas around the fire. Bedrooms are all of a good size and even the bathrooms are stylish. Ideal for a large family group, you can cook meals in the country kitchen and serve them at the huge dining table, or barbecue outside on the Argentinian grill on warmer evenings. If the lure of the water has called you here, you can spend days playing in the river, or hop into the twelve-man hot tub. Head off for walks nearby or just let the kids bounce on the trampoline while you sit back with a cold beer on the sun loungers. Other add-ons include sea fishing with the host and taking time out in the log-fired sauna in the grounds. And it's just a short drive to Kingsbridge and the coast if you fancy a change of scene.

River Dipping

For a wholesome getaway in sunny Devon, this cottage is just the ticket. In the heart of Slapton Ley, you have the coast on one side of the house, and a lake on the other. It's a nature lover's paradise. Enjoy taking your dog for a morning walk along the coastal path, less than a thirty-second walk away. Mornings spent here are peaceful and serene and by lunchtime, families will gather along the golden sands for a beautiful day by the sea. Take leisurely afternoon swims in the sea, before making the short walk home for a glass of wine in your garden. As afternoon turns into evening, you'll love the blue skies slipping away into shades of orange and purples, before unveiling a twinkly starry sky. It's the best seat in the house, the perfect place to enjoy breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. If you do want to venture out, the lovely harbour town of Dartmouth, a twenty-five-minute drive away, is lined with restaurants, pubs, and bars. You can't beat seafood when it's this fresh!

By the Sea Shore

Situated in a private gated development, this penthouse apartment is all about the views. Easily accessible courtesy of the lift from the covered parking area, head on up to the third floor and you’ll find an open-plan, light-filled space waiting to welcome you home. The sea vistas are best enjoyed from the balcony over a glass of wine, but you’re spoilt with scenery from most parts of this home – fling open the bi-fold doors and take it all in. Better still, Salcombe's centre is just a short stroll away, so you'll never be too far from shops, eateries and the water.

The Olde English

Located within a charming Victorian house overlooking Salcombe Bay is this lovely apartment. The full-height arched windows flood this space with light and allow guests to enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding area. You’re just a short walk from Salcombe High Street, and if you wish to drive, you’ll be pleased to know there’s parking here (it’s a shared driveway with your neighbour). And while the outdoor dining set is a little sun-bleached, it’s a lovely spot to enjoy alfresco breakfasts and barbecue dinners. Inside, the open-plan kitchen and dining room are perfect for entertaining family and friends, while the living room is an inviting space to share a few games of cards.
