Despite its small size, this studio apartment's proximity to Paignton's seafront gets full marks from us. The water is so close, you could practically reach out and touch it from the living area, making it the perfect spot to enjoy some sand, surf and Devon sunshine. 

We love how the coastal scenery is reflected in the sleek and stylish design. Yellow chairs invite you to kick back and relax with a glass of wine, admiring the views framed in the full-height windows. The compact but well-stocked kitchen is ideal for romantic dinners at home, while the lush rainfall shower is just the ticket after a balmy day by the sea. 

Of course, days here are best spent wandering along the traditional pier, snacking on fish and chips at Goodrington Sands and dipping your toes in Tor Bay. The beach is a mere 100 metres away, but if you're keen on exploring a bit further, you'll find the South West Coast Path, Torquay and Exeter are just a short journey by car.

But if you don't fancy cooking, you'll be pleased to hear the village's 13th-century pub, to which this cottage belongs, is within stumbling distance. Unwind with a glass of wine or cosy up on the lounge-worthy leather sofas in the living room for movie night.

Positioned within easy reach of all that Torbay has to offer, this heavenly home is just a few minutes’ walk from Torquay’s palm tree lined seafront and vibrant promenade. Why not spend the day at the beach before sample of many seafood restaurants either overlooking the marina or the town’s harbour? Cockington Village and Country Park is just 2 miles away and can easily be reached on foot while Babbacombe Downs is just a short drive away and offers unrivalled views of Lyme Bay and on towards Weymouth.

For something a bit different to the classic Devon cottage, stay in this converted seventeenth-century boathouse. The interior has been decorated in an industrial loft style, and high-end furnishings have been used throughout, from the basalt floors to the luxury bath, Bulthaup B2 kitchen and Bisazza bathroom walls. With the River Exe just across the road, it's ideally located to go for a wander along the water's edge, stopping for a pint in a cosy pub, or you can walk into the historic town of Topsham for a meal at one of its celebrated restaurants.

With stunning sea views and an enviable location in the attractive hamlet of St Marychurch, this holiday home has everything going for it. Just a nine-minute drive from Torquay, and mere minutes from the beach, this beautiful home is a wonderful base from which to explore this part of Devon. 

You might want to start your day on the balcony, sipping coffee and admiring the sweeping views of the sea. After a hearty breakfast in the sun-drenched dining room – the perfect setting for celebrations – head off with your bucket and spade. Oddicombe and Babbacombe beaches are five and six minutes away by car, so you’ve plenty of choice. Rent kayaks or paddleboards to admire the coast from a new perspective, or settle down on the beach with fish and chips. 

Keen hikers will be pleased to learn that the house has direct access to the South West Coast Path. There’s a whole host of walks so you’re sure to find something to suit the group, with glorious views of the English Riviera ready to be devoured. If you’re more of an ambler than a rambler, you might prefer to pop into Torquay instead. Settle into a cosy corner of a cafe with a cream tea before exploring the shops.

Back at the house, you can look forward to making happy holiday memories. The outside space is wonderful, with garden games and a trampoline, as well as a fire pit to sit around when the sun starts to set. Head inside after dark and set up in the cinema room for a family screening.

If you fancy venturing a little further afield, the rugged landscape of Dartmoor and the sensational South Hams are also only a short drive away.

Here, the seagulls will organise your morning wake-up call, so treat yourself to a cup of tea and an extra thirty minutes in bed.
