All cosied up on a quiet country lane just a short amble from the quaint village centre, this wonderful little cottage welcomes all to sample British country life in all its glory. 

With its wonderful white–washed facade, aged windows and brown front door with shrubs to either side, from the outside, this home is a picture–perfect haven steeped in rural charm. A backdrop of sprawling, perfectly–manicured lawns and verdant trees make the setting all the more picturesque, meanwhile the lovely little garden area serves up the ideal spot to privately soak up the sparkling Devonshire rays.

The outside of this home is enough to tug on our heartstrings, but as we meander our way from room to room, we can't help but become more enamoured with the place. Cute and cosy with a winning mixture of classic and contemporary touches, we love the fact that in spite of some of its more modern updates, the home has retained all of its classic charm. The natural wooden doors instantly add to that warm, welcoming appeal, meanwhile the addition of skylight windows invite the sunlight to stream its way inside.

Each and every nook and cranny tells its own unique story, but if you ask us, the real heart of this home is the living area. With a traditional log burner at its centre and leather sofa just waiting to be sunk into, we can already see ourselves curling up here as dusk settles with a large glass of red and some rich chocolate truffles – heaven!

Cottage by the Sea

If you like the idea of a fisherman's cottage but are less so keen on the sort of rustic, back-to-basics living quarters found in many of them, this recently refurbished home in the heart of Teignmouth offers an elegant solution. Behind the front door, guests are greeted with an interior that's stuffed full of contemporary charm.

The whitewashed walls and shiny wooden floors are a timelessly stylish combination and make for a chic backdrop against which you'll find a tasteful selection of nautical decorative items and comfy furnishings. We've got especially kind words for the sleek kitchen complete with a breakfast bar, as well as the freestanding bathtub in the master bathroom. Another little perk is the small terrace, which offers an alternative spot to sip coffee on warm mornings.

When it comes to the home's surroundings, nowhere in the UK does adorable fishing villages like Devon – although we should probably add 'or Cornwall' here to be on the safe side. Back Beach is a minute's walk away if you fancy a paddle or hiring a boat, but you can also catch a ferry from this point that will take you over to Shaldon. Back on this side of the River Teign, the Grand Pier and seafront are close to the home, too.

A Seaside Rendezvous

Just a minute away from the cute beach, traditional pubs and cosy cafes of Shaldon, this home is perfectly placed for a wholesome family escape. It contains blue and white tones in the living space to showcase its Georgian character, enhanced by coastal-themed artwork on the walls. 

A fireplace with an exposed brick design brings a homely vibe, perfect for those snug nights in. The kitchen and dining space offers a more contemporary style – sleek, wooden furnishings are matched with modern equipment. The dining table is close to the cooking facilities, so you can keep the cook company as they rustle up some tasty dishes. 

After dinner, burn off any calories with fun-filled games of table football, or just soak into the comfort of the bean bags that lay next do it. To truly soothe the mind and body, take a relaxing soak in the bath and alleviate any stresses.

If you fancied heading out, Sheldon is home to many inviting eating spots. Spend a day sunbathing and swimming at the beach before tucking into some gourmet food or classic pub grub.

Head out to Devon for a wonderful retreat in this truly unique home. Tournesol is a large, family-friendly home nestled into its own private grounds at the end of a rural lane, yet only a five-minute drive from the beach. Surrounded by the peaceful half-acre garden, guests staying here are invited to spend a few relaxing days in the countryside, but without having to give up any luxuries or homely comforts. This eco-home is equipped with underfloor heating, a gourmet kitchen, brilliant home entertainment systems, and, best of all, a Swedish-style wood-fired hot tub. Start your mornings with rounds of buttery toast at the dining table before finishing the last of your coffee on the sun-trap terrace. 

Take a moment to relax with a good book in the cosy living space and when it’s time to explore, slip on your sandals and take the seventeen-minute walk to Ness Cove Beach, accessed via the intriguingly-named Smugglers Tunnel. If you’d like to explore a little further afield, jump in the car and drive for six minutes to Teignmouth – stroll along the promenade or try your hand at kayaking, coasteering or paddle boarding. When the day draws to a close, reflect on your adventures with a gin and tonic in the London Inn, no more than a five-minute saunter from your doorstep. 

Coastal Reprise

Located on the back beach of Teignmouth, with Shaldon Beach, just a seven-minute drive away across the River Teign, this seaside escape invites guests to experience the quintessential British seaside holiday at its finest. Located on the second floor of a seafood restaurant, Crab Shack, indulge in some fresh local food whenever you please, as you can order to take away and eat at home or dine downstairs at the beachfront restaurant. Then, head to the pub next door for an evening tipple on the terrace as the sun sets over the sea, before retreating home for a quiet night in the snug living area filled with cushions and blankets. This home is a testament to why people love the Devon way of life. The home itself is a homage to authentic Devon living with its multiple floors packed with country charm. From the age-old wooden beams to the quirky windows providing interesting views of the wonderful surroundings. And trust us when we say the surroundings are something special! You'll feel at one with the Devon countryside as soon as you step out of the backdoor onto the patio. Marvel at panoramic views of lush green hills rolling in the distance. It doesn't matter if you're tucking into a Ploughman's lunch at the dining table or playing games with the kids in the garden, you'll always be treated to wonderful scenes of the River Teign in the background.

While this home is well connected to the Devon way of life, it would be wrong to not go out and explore this beautiful county. Thankfully, this home is in a brilliant location to make the most of it. Why not wander one of the lovely walking trails and see the coast in all its glory? The South West Coastal Path is a must, and it's on your doorstep. As good as it is viewing the coast from above, sometimes you just want to get stuck in. When a beach day is calling, Ness Cove is a popular spot with locals, and only a few minutes away by car. The kids will love discovering the ancient smuggler's tunnel you walk through to access the beach.

It's a Devon Thing

Found in a particularly picturesque corner of South Devon, this modern home certainly makes the most of its pretty surroundings. On the ground level, a huge set of glass doors looks out to countryside views, although there's a slightly better vantage point from the master bedroom's balcony. The large garden and terrace are also lovely spots from which to breathe in the coastal air and relax.

Although your attention is naturally diverted outside, the contemporary interior design is well worth closer inspection when you get around to it. The blue walls, rug and cushions in the living room are a nod to the seaside location, while the sleek surfaces and eye-catching lighting in the kitchen-dining area wouldn't look out of place in an urban apartment. The master bedroom's ensuite bathroom is a thing of beauty too, especially the freestanding bathtub.

You're also spoilt for choice when it comes to days out. Ness Cove Beach is less than ten minutes' walk away and the South West Coast Path takes half that to join. In the centre of Shaldon — about ten minutes' walk away — you'll find a castle and a decent selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants.



Coast with the Most

Sitting on the banks of the River Teign estuary, Shaldon is a town with a rich history of relaxation. A popular bathing spot, its coastal location is a wonderful place to replenish your mind and body, and its annual regatta is another reason to stick around. This cute cottage is set just one mile from Ness Cove Beach, but you've also got the river on your doorstep – water, water is truly everywhere. 

Authentic and original, this home is every bit the coastal abode you’d expect from Devon. We love the white painted exterior, shuttered windows, and a patio out front complete with a colourful parasol. While you might be spending a fair bit of time out here with your morning coffee, or evening tipple, you’ll also love the delights of the interiors.

The living space feels homely and inviting from the offset. Creams and beiges are reminiscent of the sands on the shore, while chunky timber beams and supports bring a rustic warmth to the lounge. You’ll love cuddling up on the plump sofas by the fire with a cuppa, just as much as you’ll love eating fresh local fish for dinner on the dining table. Surfing can wait until tomorrow morning. 

Regatta Afternoons

In the picturesque village of Shaldon, this cottage is located just a stone's throw from the River Teign and the local seaside pub, alongside an array of nature trails and walking routes. In keeping with its coastal setting, the home's beachy aesthetic reminds you of your proximity to the sea and the waterside walks available from your front doorstep. When you're not soaking up the surrounding nature or the shops and eateries of Shaldon's centre, the cottage presents an inviting space to relax. From the library of books and games selection to the wood-burner fireplace and patio seating area, it's the home's finishing touches that make for a memorable stay. 



The Mermaid's Nest

You'll find this cosy home in Shaldon, a quaint fishing village just across the river from Teignmouth. Three bedrooms provide versatile sleeping arrangements with zip-and-link beds, making this an excellent option for family getaways. Upstairs, two main suites offer comfy places to retreat to after a long day – including one with a lush freestanding bath – while the living area and kitchen downstairs provide plenty of space to chill out as a group. The sunny courtyard garden is a nice bonus come summertime. Between the area's coastal hikes, South Devon's pretty beaches, and ferry rides down the River Teign, boredom will be few and far between. 

Geranium Bliss

In the dim light of twilight, this cosy timber cabin glows, inviting you to warm yourself inside. And warm is the watchword, thanks to a traditional wood-burning stove and furry rug in the living room. With the fire crackling away, it’s hard to resist the little selection of holiday reads in the corner. During the day, French doors let the sunlight stream in brightening up the pretty, sky-blue kitchen. A farmhouse-style table in the centre of the room is a nice spot for breakfast. Both double beds are swathed in fluffy blankets, adding to the overall hygge feeling.

In terms of location, you’re in the coastal town of Shaldon, home to bakeries, cafés, a village shop, nautical-themed pubs and wildlife-filled Ness Cove Beach all within walking distance. Just across the river sits Teignmouth with its Blue Flag sandy beach and buzzing harbourfront.
