The outside of this home is enough to tug on our heartstrings, but as we meander our way from room to room, we can't help but become more enamoured with the place. Cute and cosy with a winning mixture of classic and contemporary touches, we love the fact that in spite of some of its more modern updates, the home has retained all of its classic charm. The natural wooden doors instantly add to that warm, welcoming appeal, meanwhile the addition of skylight windows invite the sunlight to stream its way inside.

Each and every nook and cranny tells its own unique story, but if you ask us, the real heart of this home is the living area. With a traditional log burner at its centre and leather sofa just waiting to be sunk into, we can already see ourselves curling up here as dusk settles with a large glass of red and some rich chocolate truffles – heaven!

Upstairs, two main suites offer comfy places to retreat to after a long day – including one with a lush freestanding bath – while the living area and kitchen downstairs provide plenty of space to chill out as a group. The sunny courtyard garden is a nice bonus come summertime. Between the area's coastal hikes, South Devon's pretty beaches, and ferry rides down the River Teign, boredom will be few and far between.

A popular bathing spot, its coastal location is a wonderful place to replenish your mind and body, and its annual regatta is another reason to stick around. This cute cottage is set just one mile from Ness Cove Beach, but you've also got the river on your doorstep – water, water is truly everywhere. 

Authentic and original, this home is every bit the coastal abode you’d expect from Devon. We love the white painted exterior, shuttered windows, and a patio out front complete with a colourful parasol. While you might be spending a fair bit of time out here with your morning coffee, or evening tipple, you’ll also love the delights of the interiors.

The living space feels homely and inviting from the offset. Creams and beiges are reminiscent of the sands on the shore, while chunky timber beams and supports bring a rustic warmth to the lounge. The wi-fi can be patchy here because of the rural location, but with a hot tub to occupy your time and the coast on your doorstep, surfing the web is likely to be the last thing on your mind.

Start your mornings with rounds of buttery toast at the dining table before finishing the last of your coffee on the sun-trap terrace. 

Take a moment to relax with a good book in the cosy living space and when it’s time to explore, slip on your sandals and take the seventeen-minute walk to Ness Cove Beach, accessed via the intriguingly-named Smugglers Tunnel. If you’d like to explore a little further afield, jump in the car and drive for six minutes to Teignmouth – stroll along the promenade or try your hand at kayaking, coasteering or paddle boarding. When the day draws to a close, reflect on your adventures with a gin and tonic in the London Inn, no more than a five-minute saunter from your doorstep.

Although the classic sitcom Fawlty Towers gave the impression that accommodation in Torquay left much to be desired, this majestic townhouse completely dispels that notion. 

Having been renovated in 2022, the design brings together boldly patterned wallpaper, a smattering of antique furnishings, some well-chosen pieces of artwork and tufted furnishings to create an interior that feels traditional but far from stale. The bright blue tiling in the bathroom is rather fetching, too

It must be said that the standout features are found in the garden, which is filled with flowers during the warmer months. As well as offering plenty of seating out on the terrace, there's also a hot tub in which you can pass summer evenings.

If the weather gods are smiling down upon you during your stay, the shingle beach at Anstey's Cove can be reached in under fifteen minutes, while Babbacombe Beach takes ten minutes more than that. The Kent Cavern caves are only eight minutes away on foot, too.

Upon the English Riviera, staying in the warm climate of the sophisticated town of Torquay feels like the equivalent of Cannes. Hop off a yacht at Torquay Marina and take an eighteen-minute stroll to this fabulous apartment, fit for any VIP. Upon arrival, your host will have a bottle of wine waiting for you. Before you even start exploring this modern flat, pour yourself a glass and say cheers to the start of the holiday. Do you like a home with a view? Because this one offers several. From its many large windows, you can spot the bay, beaches, harbours, the marina, and of course the big blue sea itself. On a sunny day, we recommend taking a bowl of olives and a chilled prosecco out to the private balcony – pop up the parasol if it gets too hot. Indoors, pristine white and cream interiors make the space feel fresh, with a mint-green sofa which you can sink into after a long day of beachside activities. South Devon might feel distinctly Mediterranean, but you’ll certainly enjoy ending the day with a refreshing cup of Earl Grey.

Dating back to 1872, the original design of this Torquay home was inspired by an Italian villa. Now, this unique landmark welcomes you to experience its special charm and character. Consisting of two connected apartments, the rooms are well suited to families with incredible views across the coastline. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area, but this is handy option for kids. Plus, guests can enjoy access to a hot tub and a sea facing terrace with a barbecue. There’s also plenty to explore in the surroundings with Dartmouth and Totnes within easy reach.

This chic apartment not only boasts tranquil views of the English Channel, but it’s also within 250 metres of Torquay Beach. Inside, the place is fresh and funky – we loved the pastel pink furnishings and bold accent walls. After a restful sleep in the comfortable beds, rustle up a full English in the sleek kitchen or pick up some freshly baked pastries from the coffee shop opposite your building. Soak up the warm sunshine on the terrace before slipping on your sandals and strolling along the South West Coast Path. 

When lunchtime rolls around, head into the heart of Torquay, around a ten-minute walk away, to sample the independent eateries. If you fancy swapping the seaside for the country, Dartmoor National Park is less than an hour’s drive from your building.

Located in Paignton, this home is only a short walk from many great activities including Paignton Beach – a nineteen-minute walk away – where you will find the pier, the Geopark, a fairy cove, pirates bay adventure golf, and even a multiplex cinema perfect for those typical rainy British days. What’s more, Splashdown water park is a short nine-minute walk away and Torbay Leisure Centre – with its pool, gym and squash courts – is reachable in twelve minutes on foot.

Your little ones will love letting off steam in the home’s large, enclosed garden too, with the kid's swing, trampoline, treehouse, football goal and pirate boat. Meanwhile, you can relax on the garden bench with a good book or enjoy an afternoon Devonshire cream tea alfresco at the outdoor dining area. 

When it’s time to come indoors, head from the decked veranda through the French doors into the living space. Curl up on the sofa to watch a family film and even make it cosier with the wood-burning stove, which can be lit for additional warmth or roasting marshmallows. Your little ones hopefully won’t object to bedtime with the twin rooms one of which is Star Wars-themed and the other which features a dollhouse mounted on the wall and a whimsical fairy wall hanging to decorate. We can’t promise they’ll want to stop playing and go to sleep though.

Rustic beams, leather-clad storybook armchairs, and freshly cut flowers bring all the cottage feels you're chasing. While carefully currated antiques, hand-painted wallpapers, and oil paintings dials up the luxury.

Upstairs, you'll find three elegant bedrooms as beautiful as the next, with beautifully carved wooden headboards, swathes of quality textiles, and antique furniture sent from another glorious time. And don't get us going on that enclosed patio back downstairs with a delightful seating area prime for alfresco lunches and a hot tub in a private nook with twinkling lights. 

When thoughts turn to food and a glass of something crisp, lay the table for lavish suppers in the dining area or keep things casual, propped up at the kitchen's island. But if you don't fancy cooking, you'll be pleased to hear the village's 13th-century pub, to which this cottage belongs, is within stumbling distance. Two buildings make up this family-sized home on the outskirts of Torquay. It’s a fifteen-minute walk from the town centre for all the seafood and sailing you can handle. Large families or groups of friends can spread out between two living rooms, two indoor kitchens and a basement chill-out room complete with arcade games, beanbags and a huge flatscreen TV. We love the long dining table in the conservatory, crowned with twisting vines. But it’s the outdoor space that drew us in, with a hot tub on the covered terrace, curtained lounge area and a full outdoor kitchen protected from the elements.
