Uphill from the water’s edge, this home shows another side to the coastal town of Poole. It’s not all about watersports, boat trips, and beachside bars (although you can certainly still experience these delights, just two miles from the shore). A convenient three-minute walk from Parkstone train station, this apartment is located in a quieter, residential area where you’ll feel more like a local. But don’t be fooled – this is a VIP experience. Whether you’d like to arrange for the in-house chef to come over, spend the afternoon paddleboarding, or head out on a boat trip, your host will make sure your stay is memorable. As you arrive, enjoy delicious tea and biscuits, or a glass of wine, from your generous welcome hamper. While you savour nibbles in the lounge, admire the sophisticated interiors – dark blue feature walls, plush grey sofas, and a woven standing lamp are just a few elements we love. Huge windows usher in beautiful natural light in every room, with views of leafy trees outside bringing a sense of zen. 

Cross Hill

Set in a prime location in the conservation area of Branksome Park in Dorset, this large home offers a perfectly peaceful holiday experience, surrounded by an acre of tree-lined gardens to ensure complete privacy. What’s more, the garden is fully enclosed, making it safe and secure for children and dogs. 

Take your morning cup of coffee at the breakfast bar as a breeze of fresh air sweeps into the home before you step through the bi-fold doors to the courtyard and the gardens outside. On hot summer days, why not cool off in the waters of your private pool and then dry off beside the warmth of the firepit. Or read a good book in the shade and comfort of the summer room. 

If beach days are what you’re looking for, then you’re in luck as the seaside can be reached within twenty-five minutes by foot. While sports facilities such as tennis and golf are on your doorstep too – a seven-minute walk and a four-minute drive away, respectively. 

In the evenings, cook your meals using the outside kitchen and barbecue area, and then dine alfresco to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding gardens and listen out for the last of the cheerful birdsong as the sun sets. 

Slate & Cotton

With an excellent address in the heart of Poole Old Town, just a two-minute walk from the Quay and its many local attractions and restaurants, this home is a gem. It's within a minute's walk of both the historic church of St James's and the town's Registry Office, so it's the ideal place to stay if you're attending a wedding. There’s a sunny, child-friendly, private decked courtyard garden with an outdoor heated shower – perfect for rinsing off the sand after a trip to the beach. This place is ideal for a seaside break.

Poole Escape

This Grade II listed home has bags of charm and a super slick and contemporary feel. In the heart of quaint Christchurch, the home has rich, inviting rooms, with modern and period features in equal measure. Everything about it feels luxurious, from the colour palette to the flawless bathrooms, complete with a freestanding bathtub and gorgeous showers to recharge in. The bedrooms are kitted out with hotel-level beds and superior linens. With its two log burners and plush sofas, the home is set up for cosy winter break and evenings spent together in the lounge with a film, or around the grand dining table with a feast. Head to the balcony in the warmer months and relax on the sofas with a round of cool beers. Spend days on the local Blue Flag beaches, or rent a small boat which you can moor right outside the home seeing that you'll be based on the River Avon. For serious style and luxury in the heart of a pretty coastal town, look no further.

The Chandlery

In the vibrant coastal city of Bournemouth, you won’t just be keeping yourself busy with watersports and sunbathing, but galleries, theatres, and historic churches. Forget about beach life for a second and head further up into town, where you’ll find this luxurious flat just ten minutes from Bournemouth train station on foot. In an Edwardian building, this refurbished home is a distinguished and elegant base for exploring the delights of Dorset. We love the fabulous living space – antique and vintage furniture meets modern, industrial pieces in this eclectic room. The brick fireplace features a funky mirror in its hearth, the Ziegler rug plays host to a mid-century leather Barcelona chair and footstool, the white Chesterfield sofa and regency chaise longue are perfect for relaxing, and the reflection of the black wire chandelier can be seen in the ornate gilded mirror. You’re sure to be charmed by this home of sophisticated and exquisite contrasts. On a sunny morning, wake up to light from the huge, bay windows and head out for a wander. You’ll hit the beach in under thirty minutes, but we recommend taking the long way through town to discover cool local shops and great restaurants on Charminster Road. Further afield, the scenic New Forest is half an hour away in the car, and the exclusive Sandbanks peninsula can be reached in twenty.

King Edward

With plenty of space to spread out, this ground-floor apartment in an Edwardian home near Westbourne is a fantastic base to return to after a day at the beach. Having a private entrance and garden ensures you have all the privacy you need here, plus private parking is a real premium in this area during the summer months. Although there's room for six, we think the main bedroom is better suited to two adults and two children, while the second bedroom is ideal if you're travelling with another couple. When it's time to explore, you'll find the beautiful sandy beach of Alum Chine just 350 metres away, whilst a 15-minute walk will get you to the eclectic mix of boutiques, cafes and bars of Westbourne and its beautiful Victorian arcade.

Escape To The Sands

This gem in Poole is a fabulous place to begin your seaside getaway. With space for up to four guests, you can kick back and chill out in style between your adventures on the Dorset coast. 

Step inside, and you'll find a serene space with a sophisticated grey and blue colour palette that creates a feeling of calm throughout. The velvet sofa is the perfect place to stretch out with an evening tipple, and the open-plan setup makes it easy to chat with your guests while cooking and relaxing. The kitchen has everything you need to whip up your favourite dishes, and you'll love the handy pod coffee machine that makes mornings a breeze. 

A fifteen-minute stroll will bring you right into the heart of Poole, where you can watch the boats bobbing in the quay and dine on fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants. Wander in the other direction, and you'll arrive at the sandy shoreline of Hamworthy Beach, a great place to paddle and build a sandcastle. And, nature lovers can take a twenty-five-minute drive over to Hartland Moor National Nature Reserve for some wildlife watching and rambling through the stunning countryside. 

Sapphire Waves

Nestled in the beautiful maritime surroundings of Poole Quay, this home is a real gem in a corner of England that is often overlooked for popular seaside destinations such as Cornwall and Devon. Situated on the fourth floor, this stylish apartment boasts stunning 180° panoramic views over Visitors Marina, Brownsea Island and Purbecks beyond. Whether you're watching the sunrise or waiting for it to set, you'll absolutely love spending time on the balcony here. Make yourself a cream tea and a cuppa and watch the boats come in and out of the quay. Take in the sound of seagulls passing by and feel the sea breeze on your skin.

One of the best things about this home is its proximity to southeast beaches. Sandbanks is the pick of the bunch, and it only takes sixteen-minutes by car. When you're feeling hungry, there are a lot of great places to discover within walking distance. Take a four-minute scenic stroll along the harbour to Quayside, where you'll find a variety of restaurants, pubs and wine bars. You can't come here and not sample the fish & chips either! We recommend the fourteen-minute walk to Lakeside Fish & Chips for some hearty, traditional grub.

Dolphin of The South

This bright, modern home exudes luxury from every fibre and feature and it sits just fifty metres from Poole’s pretty harbour. Beach days are a short walk away, with the long stretch of sand at Shore Road Beach a six-minute stroll away, so you can pop back home if you’ve forgotten the sunscreen. Your proximity to the sea is on display in the master bedroom, with views out over the ocean from a wall of windows. Out the back, you’ll find a balcony for sunbathing and a ground-level terrace is set up for barbecues in the evening. But it’s the ultra-plush living room in dove-grey and dusky pink velvet that really caught our eye. A long fireplace runs the length of the wall, reminiscent of a mid-century entertainers pad in luxe LA. The kitchen is in striking monochrome, where sleek minimalism reigns supreme, yet every appliance and mod-con for self-catering is hidden behind cabinets, and there are two wine fridges tucked into the island. Floor the ceiling windows let in plenty of seaside sunshine, and Poole’s myriad seafood restaurants and ocean-side bars are at your fingertips here. 

Seaside Swagger

With beautiful harbour views, it's no wonder this home is popular. There's a small courtyard to take in the fresh sea air, and inside is light and bright with a modern, well-equipped kitchen for preparing some local seafood. The location is fantastic, too –  it’s just a stone's throw from Poole's vibrant Quayside. And just a short stroll away, you’ll find the Old Town with its excellent array of restaurants and bars. This place is ideal for friends and families looking for a seaside experience.

Harbour Delight

If the view of the sea from this beachy Bournemouth home doesn’t grab you, then perhaps the ten-minute stroll to the beach and promenade will. It’s also a short walk from the town centre, where you’ll find seafood restaurants, shopping streets and beachside cafés galore. The entire ground floor is dedicated to open-plan living and socialising in a light and breezy fashion. Driftwood sculptures and duck-egg accents complement the otherwise pristine white design. Gather the group for breakfast in the big kitchen where bench seating offers an informal place to dine. Squashy armchairs and a huge sectional sofa provide a place for the whole family to hang out in the evening. On the lower ground floor, you’ll find a second, smaller kitchen and another living room for the group to spread out. Bedrooms are split over the first and second floors where pastel hues and beachy flourishes are sure to send you off to sleep dreaming of the sea. 

Starfish & Driftwood

Just steps from Charminster High Street, this ground floor flat is brimming with Victorian character. It's a lovely red-brick townhouse, with plenty of historic charm to admire – think high ceilings and picture rails, ornamental ceiling roses, tall skirting boards and large bay windows flooding the rooms with light. Though it's on the smaller side, it's been well-designed to maximise the space – we think it's perfectly suited to a couple after a romantic escape. Read the morning paper in the plush armchair, help yourself to a selection of cereals and teas at the rustic breakfast bar or unwind after a busy day with a movie night in the cosy living room. The kitchenette is more suited to light bites than extravagant meals, so in the evenings you may want to dine out – there's an array of cafes, pubs and restaurants in Charminster to choose from. Bournemouth town centre and its sandy beaches are a twenty-five-minute walk (though we recommend driving), or venture a little further and enjoy a trip to the Jurassic Coast, famous for its fossils – you can be there in under an hour.
