On warmer days, we would love nothing more than to take our morning cup of tea and breakfast outside to the home’s courtyard to enjoy the fresh air. Then, explore everything that Beverley has to offer, from Saturday markets to antique centres, from its thriving music scene to competitive escape room fun. Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.

Once you've wandered about this home nestled away in the North Yorkshire countryside for the first time, it probably won't come as a surprise to learn that it was once a hotel. We'd call it a love nest for two, but it's just too big for that. Crash out in the snuggly living room, with rattan accents and statement lighting, bringing a dash of modernity. Rustle up a meal in the made-for-action gallery kitchen. Then settle down for a tête-à-tête and evening meal in the separate dining room, with french doors leading out onto that terrace. 
When legs are weary after days exploring the Yorkshire Dales, sink into the enormous freestanding bath, and upstairs, a luxurious bedroom awaits to bank a peaceful night's sleep. 

Just outside this home, wander-worthy cobbled streets lead down to a medieval castle and the town's very own steam railway station to transport you back in time (both less than five minutes on foot).

It's also part of the North York Moors National Park, so you can forget about the city and hike through unspoiled nature or take the authentic steam train through the hills for a more relaxed scenic journey. After a long day of seeing the sights, return to this special cottage to warm up by the open fire or get the barbecue going on the patio in the summer months (perhaps accompanied by a gin and tonic you've smuggled in).

To make the most of your seaside escape, the Blue Flag West Cliff beach, and promenade are just a five-minute walk away. While nestled on the West Cliff, lining Pier Road – which can be reached in eight minutes on foot – you’ll find arcades for hours of fun on rainy days and Whitby’s famous fish restaurants serving the catch of the day because it simply wouldn’t be a beach holiday without fish and chips.

The open-plan living area is sociable and smart, with comfortable sofas, a big dining table and a well kitted-out kitchen. Quirky wall art and decorative pieces give the place some added character and we love the little seating areas in each window. On the south side of the harbour, you'll be just a five-minute walk from the '199 Steps' which take you up to the scenic ruins of Whitby Abbey.

With only six miles separating you from the seaside town of Whitby, you can easily take a quick road trip to spend the day on the sandy shores of West Cliff beach. Whilst there, be sure to walk the promenade for a gorgeous view of the Church of Saint Mary and try your hand at the claw machine in the pier arcade. After a lunch of fresh seafood, head to the Whitby Abbey, a fourteen-minute walk from Whitby Beach, to visit the renowned ruins that inspired Bram Stoker’s gothic novel Dracula.

Back home, take in the tranquillity of the secluded escape by sitting out on the deck with a cup of coffee. Watch the breeze play through the line of trees surrounding you as you catch up on your favourite podcast. We recommend, at least once, sitting out here to watch the sun rise or set, maybe even both. Inside, get the cacao ready for movie night in front of the fire, and when you’re ready for bed, swing by the bathroom first for a soak in the tub.

This cosy house is perfect for family breaks to the seaside. It stands on the edge of East Cliff, just a ten-minute walk from Whitby’s town centre and its narrow medieval streets lined with pubs, shops and comfy cafes. You can walk easily to the west side of town, where you’ll find the Blue Flag West Cliff Beach and its brightly coloured beach huts. Add in the wonderful Whitby Abbey and its rich history, and you’ll never be short of things to see and do here. 

The house itself is warm and welcoming, with heaps of space. It’s an excellent choice for a big group of friends or a couple of families travelling together, as there’s plenty of room for everyone. We love the balcony that opens out from the living room – it boasts gorgeous views of Whitby and its harbour, and is the perfect spot for a morning cuppa. Later on in the day, you might pick up takeaway fish and chips to unwrap on one of the picnic tables on the terrace. It’s a lovely way to round off a day at the seaside.
