It's tucked down a tree-lined lane just outside of Tetbury, and if the chocolate-box exterior doesn't wow you, we reckon the countryside setting will. You'll be treated to views across Westonbirt Arboretum, best enjoyed in the sunny garden or from the cottage's panoramic window seat. Inside, you can curl up with a book in front of the fire, play a game around the dining table, or work remotely from the desk on the landing. There's also a handy utility room here, ideal for wiping off muddy paws and storing wellies after a long trek through the surrounding countryside.

We love the stunning countryside views from the large garden – we can imagine sitting here on warm summer days with a glass of wine in hand. Another favourite of ours is the gorgeous bedroom with its characterful beams, chandelier and free-standing bath, the perfect place for a soak after a long countryside walk. There are several gastro pubs within a ten-minute drive, or if you fancy exploring further afield, Cirencester and Tetbury are under fifteen minutes in the car. Alternatively, marvel at over two thousand different species of trees at the stunning Westonbirt Arboretum, just over a twenty-minute ride.

This countryside haven is nestled in the Cotswold town of Minchinhampton. Made up of two side-by-side cottages, there's lots of room here for families and large groups. One well-behaved dog is allowed in one of the cottages for an additional fee, and your host can provide a free highchair and travel cot for little ones. All the bedrooms have their own en-suites, and while the ceiling is a bit low in one of them, there's plenty to make up for it. Outdoors, you'll find space for alfresco dining, along with a tennis court and a small stone gazebo on the expansive grounds, ideal for relaxing with a book.

The Old Village Mill

Escape to the heart of the Cotswolds at this charming home. It’s located just above Stroud and boasts wonderful countryside views, particularly from the dreamy main bedroom. The cosy sitting room looks across the front garden – a marvellous spot for an alfresco breakfast – and can be merged with the attractive kitchen and dining space. Little ones will love the playground across the street, while grown-ups will appreciate being within walking distance of pubs, restaurants, and rural walks.

Back at home, the living room area, although too small for everyone to use at the same time, offers a wood burner in a fireplace that creates a cosy atmosphere.

The exposed stone fireplace and wood-burning stove make the living room extra cosy, and you'll find a reading snug with vaulted ceilings up on the second floor, seamlessly blending history with modernity. Outdoors, the private courtyard garden boasts space to sit out and share drinks and evening conversation. For an additional fee, two well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you here, and they'll love the surrounding countryside with its winding walking trails and picturesque valleys.

Sitting opposite a cosy pub on the edge of Rodborough Common near Stroud, this characterful cottage offers the perfect escape for those looking to explore the beauty of the Cotswolds. Low beamed ceilings and a working fireplace await downstairs, while two country-style bedrooms offer snug spaces to rest up after a day of walking the Cotswolds Way or visiting the nearby Westonbirt Arboretum (9 miles). You’ll find plenty of original features here – including a bread oven – as well as a garden area equipped with a barbecue and fire pit that completes the idyllic scene.

Escape to the Cotswolds with this converted coach house dating back to 1865. It has an idyllic setting surrounded by communal lawns and countryside views. There’s a private terrace with a hot tub too – perfect for relaxing in. Inside, there’s a log burner for when the weather turns cooler and there’s air conditioning for hotter days. Just a couple of things to note – there’s a winding staircase to the first floor, and the ceilings here are on the low side. Out and about, the beautiful Westonbirt Arboretum is a short walk away. Or go for a pub lunch at the village inn at Sherston, just over two miles from this home.

Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.

It’s also just a short walk to the Cotswold Way and Rodborough Common.

Consider this grand mansion house, whose nine bedrooms - plus special highlights like juke box, maze, large terrace and extensive parklands - make it quite the place for a gathering of family or friends. The grade II-listed Regency building has no less than five indoor living spaces including a banquet-worthy dining room, which seats up to 20, a library packed with books, and sitting room with open fire and plenty of overstuffed chairs and sofas. The surroundings are impressive, part of the 28-acre Matara Estate, where rewilding projects and formal gardens have been in progress for the past 20 years. A private tour can be arranged – just ask the caretaker on your arrival. If you can manage your way out of all that (or even want to) you’ll find yourself in a charming part of the Cotswolds - with Stroud, Tetbury and Westonbirt’s National Arbotoreum nearby and Jane Austen’s beloved Bath just a 35-minute drive away.
