Bedrooms are classic country style and we particularly love the freestanding bathtub in the main bathroom and the pretty bedroom on the top floor. The house shares a rear courtyard with some neighbouring properties but a large, private garden lies across the lane to the front.

Another favourite of ours is the gorgeous bedroom with its characterful beams, chandelier and free-standing bath, the perfect place for a soak after a long countryside walk. There are several gastro pubs within a ten-minute drive, or if you fancy exploring further afield, Cirencester and Tetbury are under fifteen minutes in the car. Alternatively, marvel at over two thousand different species of trees at the stunning Westonbirt Arboretum, just over a twenty-minute ride.

Built in the 16th century, this Grade II listed home is believed to be the former Keeper’s cottage. You’ll find it just off the 16th-century market square in Tetbury, in a courtyard with private parking. This rustic, historic home is a cosy base ideal for two, though it won’t suit those seeking sleek, modern accommodation. We love the exposed stone and the wood-burning stove, which add to the charm. As well as having Tetbury’s antique shops and cafes on your doorstep, you’ll also be within easy reach of Westonbirt Arboretum, Gatcombe Park, and Malmesbury.

This countryside haven is nestled in the Cotswold town of Minchinhampton. Made up of two side-by-side cottages, there's lots of room here for families and large groups. One well-behaved dog is allowed in one of the cottages for an additional fee, and your host can provide a free highchair and travel cot for little ones. All the bedrooms have their own en-suites, and while the ceiling is a bit low in one of them, there's plenty to make up for it. Outdoors, you'll find space for alfresco dining, along with a tennis court and a small stone gazebo on the expansive grounds, ideal for relaxing with a book.

With its wood-burning fire, window seats and pretty walled garden, this 19th-century townhouse in Tetbury delivers all the Cotswold's charm. Tucked away along a quiet, no-through lane, there are beautiful walks on the doorstep. Or for a little more bustle, Tetbury's wander-worthy centre, with its iconic antique shops, restaurants and cafes, is just a stroll away. Perfect for a multi-generational family stay, alongside two double bedrooms, there's a single bedroom that's ideal for a child or single grandparent. It's worth noting a home of this heritage does have its quirks. Expect steep staircases, low beams in places and a compact kitchen. But that's all part and parcel of characterful cottage living.

Planning a special event? Consider this grand mansion house, whose nine bedrooms - plus special highlights like juke box, maze, large terrace and extensive parklands - make it quite the place for a gathering of family or friends. The grade II-listed Regency building has no less than five indoor living spaces including a banquet-worthy dining room, which seats up to 20, a library packed with books, and sitting room with open fire and plenty of overstuffed chairs and sofas. The surroundings are impressive, part of the 28-acre Matara Estate, where rewilding projects and formal gardens have been in progress for the past 20 years. A private tour can be arranged – just ask the caretaker on your arrival. If you can manage your way out of all that (or even want to) you’ll find yourself in a charming part of the Cotswolds - with Stroud, Tetbury and Westonbirt’s National Arbotoreum nearby and Jane Austen’s beloved Bath just a 35-minute drive away.

This dog-friendly cottage is Cotswold charm personified. It's tucked down a tree-lined lane just outside of Tetbury, and if the chocolate-box exterior doesn't wow you, we reckon the countryside setting will. You'll be treated to views across Westonbirt Arboretum, best enjoyed in the sunny garden or from the cottage's panoramic window seat. Inside, you can curl up with a book in front of the fire, play a game around the dining table, or work remotely from the desk on the landing. There's also a handy utility room here, ideal for wiping off muddy paws and storing wellies after a long trek through the surrounding countryside.

Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.

Right by Minchinhampton Common, this 200-year-old stone cottage is right out of a postcard. The exposed stone fireplace and wood-burning stove make the living room extra cosy, and you'll find a reading snug with vaulted ceilings up on the second floor, seamlessly blending history with modernity. Outdoors, the private courtyard garden boasts space to sit out and share drinks and evening conversation. For an additional fee, two well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you here, and they'll love the surrounding countryside with its winding walking trails and picturesque valleys.

Quaint Stone Cottage

Spread over three floors, this Grade II listed stone cottage nestled in the hillside is the perfect base to explore the Cotswolds. The three bedrooms,  spread over the first and second floors, all offer views of the local area, inviting you to jump out of bed and head out along one of the nearby footpaths that take you through idyllic Cotswold viewing spots. Back at home, the living room area, although too small for everyone to use at the same time, offers a wood burner in a fireplace that creates a cosy atmosphere.

Escape to the heart of the Cotswolds at this charming home. It’s located just above Stroud and boasts wonderful countryside views, particularly from the dreamy main bedroom. Sitting opposite a cosy pub on the edge of Rodborough Common near Stroud, this characterful cottage offers the perfect escape for those looking to explore the beauty of the Cotswolds. Low beamed ceilings and a working fireplace await downstairs, while two country-style bedrooms offer snug spaces to rest up after a day of walking the Cotswolds Way or visiting the nearby Westonbirt Arboretum (9 miles). You’ll find plenty of original features here – including a bread oven – as well as a garden area equipped with a barbecue and fire pit that completes the idyllic scene.

Prepare to be entertained by the Tetbury Woolsack Races taking place right outside the front door.

Dating back to the 1880s, this former barn now provides a beautiful countryside cottage experience for families exploring The Cotswolds. Though it's since undergone renovations, it takes pride in the stone floors, exposed walls and beams, adding character and charm to the space, even if the sloped ceilings mean taller guests have to watch their heads. At least there's no ducking outside where an expansive garden gives you more than enough space. You'll also find the seasonal swimming pool, fire pit, alfresco dining table and, if requested, a hot tub out here. As for location, you're within easy driving distance of Cotswolds treasures such as Tetbury, Malmesbury and Cirencester.

Relax to the sound of water rushing below and toast your toes by the log burner after a day exploring the local area – because here, it’s all about the great outdoors. If children and dogs are joining you, they’ll have a wonderful time in the garden – although with open water, they'll need to be supervised at all times. For adventures further afield, you can jump straight onto the Malmesbury River Walk from your front door. And when you’ve worked up an appetite, take your pick of fantastic local eateries and old-world pubs, all within walking distance.

Recently renovated to ensure guests have a comfortable stay, there is a lavish clawfoot tub, a cosy fireplace, a sleek kitchen and a well-maintained garden with plenty of outdoor seating, so you can sip your morning coffee outside while taking in your lush surroundings. Host Sean goes out of his way to provide a spectacular array of breakfast items, including cereals, bread and croissants, hot drinks, eggs, and jams. The home is located just off of the Cotswold Way, and it's an ideal home base for keen walkers and hikers. If you'd rather do some sightseeing, the sixteenth-century Rococo Garden is just a short walk away and is sure to delight the whole family.

There's so much character in this old-world home. It's set on a working farm in the heart of the Slad Valley, so expect livestock as neighbours and gorgeous Cotswold views. The house is filled with traditional elements – from the cosy fireplaces and brimming bookshelves (including one that conceals a wine fridge) to the soaker baths overlooking the hills. The most unique feature is the covered cider press in the garden, which doubles as a terrace where you can bask in the scenery and share a local brew. Three dogs are welcome to join you, too – and with the Cotswold Way and other trails on your doorstep, there are plenty of picturesque walks to choose from.

Set within seven acres of private woodland in the beautiful Slad Valley, this architect-designed home has amazing views across the Cotswold escarpment. You can enjoy the vistas from its terrace and various seating areas, as well as from inside. There’s the all-important log burner in the open-plan living area and a library to relax in with a book. We love that the main bedroom suite opens out onto the patio too. When you want to explore, the town of Stroud is around 3 miles away with its farmers’ market and museum, while the local village pub is just over a mile.

The Woodland Villa

Built back in the late 1920s, this cottage combines rustic features, modern conveniences and a smidgeon of rural eccentricity to make for a truly memorable stay. Inside, there are plenty of spots to gather the whole gang together, whether that's on the patchwork furnishings positioned by the wood-burning stove in the snug, sat around the dining room in the conservatory or sprawled out on the long grey corner sofa next to the eye-catching tree-trunk coffee table. Out the French doors, there's a large wraparound terrace with a barbecue and dining area, all facing a peaceful view of fields and forest. A gate at the end of the garden leads directly through this woodland and you can follow paths down to the beautiful Chalford Valley and the Thames and Severn Canal. A little closer to home — about ten minutes' walk — is the quaint market town of Minchinhampton, which has a market on the first Saturday of the month in the seventeenth-century hall and a country pub.
