Eleven minutes from the town centre, this apartment offers an elegant base for your stay in Gloucestershire. A neutral palette of colours in the living space brings a sense of calm, with a plush, pale-peach sofa and sand-coloured walls contrasting beautifully with dark wooden floors. Of course in this historic place, there would have to be some original features to admire in the home. Our favourites are the Georgian sash windows, ornate ceiling rose, and green tiled fireplace. Imagine cosying up around this striking hearth with a glass of pinot noir in hand – bliss. Another excellent spot to enjoy sipping wine would be in the freestanding bathtub, just for an extra feeling of spa-like luxury. In the morning, after a cup of Earl Grey, hop in the car and explore the Cotswolds half an hour away. Or if you’re looking for a more local green space, Montpellier Gardens are just a seven-minute walk from home.

Second Nature is the best of both worlds. Found on the edge of Cheltenham, it’s only a short drive from the city, while still feeling incredibly idyllic and rural because of its immediate surroundings. Ideally placed for countryside walks, the Cotswold Way passes right behind the home, along with several other walking paths. We loved the attention to detail – the handmade, one-of-a-kind four-poster bed is truly something else. And let’s not forget about the views… We particularly enjoyed gazing at the green fields from the living room window.

Situated in the Lansdown area of Cheltenham, a five-minute walk from the swanky Montpellier neighbourhood, this apartment is perfectly placed to sample all this Regency town has to offer. The interiors reflect their surroundings: elegant and sophisticated. The colour scheme is neutral – it’s all pastels with natural textured accents. But now and again there’s an opulent flourish – we loved the chandelier and gold-framed mirrors in the living space. A tufted sofa with matching footstool calls for settling in with your favourite beverage while flicking through the restaurant recommendations in the welcome pack. From seasonal British fodder in an old Art Deco cinema to international fare by the leafy Montpellier Gardens, you’re spoilt for choice for places to eat. Begin your mornings with a cup of tea in the courtyard before strolling through Pittville Park, a thirty-minute walk away, or time your stay right and experience one of the town’s famous events – you’re less than fifteen minutes from Imperial Gardens the annual Music Festival is held.

Located on a quiet street yet just a minute's walk from Cheltenham's high street, this home is the ideal base for those looking to be in the heart of the town's action. With a whole town of Regency architecture to admire, Cheltenham is full of listed buildings and has an altogether regal air. While it might be well known for the races, you don’t need to don your best hat when staying in this funky, modern home, eleven minutes from the town centre. With classic features like large Georgian windows in every room, but a playful and colourful decor, there’s a certain delight in the contrasts. We also love the mirrored dressing table in the bedroom, which feels more LA than Gloucestershire, but certainly adds to the VIP vibe. Its large bathroom boasts a huge freestanding tub as well as a separate rainfall shower – much better than the famous English drizzle. And if you're lucky enough to be here during a sunny spell, you’ve got your own private patio with a cute dining set – perfect for an alfresco glass of pinot grigio. If you’re in need of some more lush greenery, pack a picnic full of local deli goods and head out to Montpellier Gardens, a seven-minute walk from home.

This Victorian terraced cottage is the ideal Cheltenham escape. Each room is as comfortable as the next (although some are a little dated), and the fireplace in the living area makes the whole home feel even cosier. Some of that is down to the tall ceilings, period features and tall sash windows looking out over Imperial Gardens, but it's all the little design touches, too — the chandeliers and oversized, ornate mirror frames add a touch of class in the living space and bedrooms, while the rainfall shower and elegant free-standing tub bring spa-level amenities to the bathrooms. The kitchen is both large and dazzlingly white, perfect for any culinary experimentation you have in mind. Alternatively, you're more than welcome to leave it completely unused, as there's a wide array of restaurants available in the surrounding Montpellier neighbourhood. If the weather's kind during your visit, Sandford Parks Lido can be reached in fifteen minutes' on foot, while you can be in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in ten minutes' drive.

The leafy Montpellier Gardens are directly across the road, perfect for mood-boosting strolls on crisp mornings and picnics when it’s warm. If you’re here in the springtime, stick around to catch established and emerging artists perform at the famous Jazz Festival held on the lawns. Pick out retro gems in the nearby vintage boutiques or take the ten-minute mosey into the heart of Cheltenham for international restaurants and chain retail stores.

This gorgeous apartment couldn't sum up Cheltenham any better. Set in a typical Regency terrace (Grade II listed, no less), it's in a great location on the outskirts of town with easy access to the independent eateries of Montpellier and a pub restaurant at the end of the road. Smart and comfortable, it's got all the character of a period home plus modern luxuries like en-suite bathrooms and stylish furniture. Open the shutters and the home floods with natural light. There's a sociable living area with a comfy L-shaped sofa and a dining table for four, and there's a fully kitted-out kitchen just off it – complete with retro serving hatch. Both bedrooms are bright and spacious, and we love the master bedroom's twin windows. You'll have your own entrance and out the back, there's even a shared garden area and somewhere to store your bike.

This Cheltenham pad has a lot to write home about, but our favourite is the attention to detail. You're in good hands with host Bren – everything you could possibly want or need is taken care of, which means all you need to worry about is relaxing. And there's no better place to do just that than in the cosy living area. Sink into one of the soft sofas, cuddle up with quirky throw pillows and put on your favourite Netflix show when you crave a chilled night at home. When the weather is nice, enjoy the bottle of wine and treats from the welcome basket in the private courtyard – it's a great spot to soak up the sunshine. We also adore the bright blue kitchen – complete with all kinds of crockery and culinary gear for stress-free self-catering – as well as the characterful bedrooms. If you need to do some work, there's a private study with a desk and bookshelves. Best of all, this home is in an excellent spot for exploring. You're just a ten-minute walk from Cheltenham centre, where you'll find boutique shops, local restaurants and plenty of cultural attractions. Or, hop in the car and visit the charming towns in the Cotswolds – many are a twenty-minute drive away.

This three-storey Victorian house is an inviting home-from-home less than a ten-minute drive from the heart of Cheltenham. If you’d prefer to stretch your legs, the Cotswolds is a short car ride away – we recommend taking a day trip to the pretty town of Bourton-on-the-Water. Back at the abode, a kitchen with plenty of prep space leads out to a large garden, perfect for barbecues in the summer. Should you visit during winter, the wood-burning stove in the snug is a welcome addition. Keen to make your stay extra special? Your host provides a range of optional extras, from cider tasting to yoga sessions.

The ground floor of this new-build in the Montpellier neighbourhood is a great example of how to execute open-concept design successfully. Upon entrance, there's a zone for socialising, with a green velvet sofa and a chic glass dining table. This moves onto the minimalist kitchen, which has plenty of surface space and a sleek island for morning coffee. Carry on and you'll reach a glass door that opens out onto a large patio, decorated with conifers, loose stone and potted plants — a lovely spot for soaking up the sunshine. If you've been blessed with good weather, Montpellier Garden is only five minutes' walk away. Similarly, the famous Devil's Chimney, along with hiking routes in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty can be reached in ten minutes in the car.

Horses for Courses

This period home is ideal for a chic Cheltenham stay. Downstairs, the white and cream colour scheme exudes sophistication. Upstairs, you'll find three comfortable bedrooms, with the fourth on the lower ground floor. Some are smaller than others, and there's only one bathroom for six people, although it does have a roll-top bath perfect for unwinding. That said, the private garden is our favourite feature, where you can enjoy a tipple or two in the sunshine. Fancy getting out and about? You're close to Cheltenham's main attractions, including the historic centre with ample shops and eateries.

An elegant, imposing home fit for a special gathering of family and friends, this place is a real showstopper. With room for twenty-four guests in the main house, and the possibility of adding another two in the annexe, it's so big you may have trouble finding your way around. We suggest you begin your day with coffee in the huge kitchen, with doors out to either side of the home's one-acre gardens. Contemporary and bright, its high-spec appliances will make cooking for such a large group a breeze, with two ovens and a gigantic island. 

After breakfast, head to your enormous indoor pool for a swim, before a stroll to the nearby deli to pick up some things for lunch. The rest of the day can be whiled away in luxury, with games of table tennis, pool and table football indoors, or a football match in the garden. In the evening, screen a movie in the cinema room, whip up a barbecue for a lazy meal in the garden or even hire a private chef for a special meal in the incredible dining room, where vast walls of bi-folding doors open it right up to the outside space.

Around the house, there are numerous comfy bedrooms and bathrooms, and there's a cosy sitting room with enough sofas for everyone to sit and chat over evening drinks. And if you're heading into town, it's just an easy ten-minute drive or taxi ride to all the bars, cafes, restaurants and shops that Cheltenham is famous for.

You'll have to pay for parking, but a car isn't really necessary with so much in walking distance.

And your apartment, overlooking Clarence Square, slots in seamlessly. There’s an understated elegance to the interiors – the tones are muted and well-considered to create a space that’s both sophisticated and inviting. While you already have everything you need to ensure a blissful stay – the kitchen’s fully equipped and the super king size bed is absurdly comfortable – your host is on hand to make it that bit more special with a choice of optional extras. Perhaps you’ll pick the breakfast hamper, or if your team’s in the playoffs, go for the Sky Sports package. When it’s time to explore, Pittville Park is a ten-minute walk away for morning strolls that clear the cobwebs and picnics when the weather is nice. The studio is small but perfectly formed, with a petite dining area and cosy lounge – there’s even a charming private patio and courtyard garden. 

Woodland Peace

Thought to date back in part to the Tudor period and in part to the Victorian era, this old mill – located in a picturesque hamlet – was converted during the 1980s and takes care to retain much of the home’s period features including the mill shaft, which is a striking centrepiece to the living space. Multiple levels, some at split levels in this home reference the mechanical workings of the mill and intersect original mill components creating a wonderfully unique space. 

What’s more, the home’s owners have put a lot of thought into the environmental footprint of this home by upcycling furniture, using energy-efficient appliances, using a solar PV system, and including garden plants with low watering requirements. 

On sunny mornings, we would love to begin our days here with breakfast at the outdoor dining table in the sun-trapped courtyard before exploring the grounds at a leisurely pace. Wander the grounds’ passages, grassy knolls – that are home to birds and rabbits – fruit trees – bearing plums, pears, apples and figs – or rest beside the old mill pond which features Lily pads and dragonflies. 

In the afternoon, the large lawn is an ideal spot for a game of croquet, or why not head out for the day and visit Cheltenham, with the town centre just fifteen minutes away by car or the racecourse a short ten-minute drive away. Whatever you have planned for your visit, this home provides a truly amazing setting to stay in.
