Deep in the heart of the Cotswolds, we found this idyllic home to be an ideal setting for a romantic escape. Both Glouster and Cheltenham are a short drive away, but beautiful nature, picturesque villages, and country pubs accessible via cross-country walks are the main draw here. As it's an annex, you won't be completely secluded outside, but the home is yours alone and has a private entrance. While there are plenty of welcome authentic touches – especially the wooden lintels and exposed brickwork – the sloping ceiling in the bedroom might inconvenience taller guests.

This charming barn conversion is quintessentially Cotswolds, with a vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and flagstone floors. A self-contained annexe, attached to the host's home, you'll find this cosy spot in a pretty village just ten-minutes' drive from Cheltenham. Inside, the old blends with the new, thanks to underfloor heating and a modern kitchen and bathroom. The ground floor space is open and sociable, and there's a garden room (which doubles as a second bedroom) opening to a lovely terrace with far-reaching views. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it's a walker's paradise, and the home has paths that run from the rear to various trails, including the Cotswolds Way. A thirty-five minute walk will take you to a grand country hotel for lunch and it's just a little further to the pub.

Second Nature is the best of both worlds. Found on the edge of Cheltenham, it’s only a short drive from the city, while still feeling incredibly idyllic and rural because of its immediate surroundings. Ideally placed for countryside walks, the Cotswold Way passes right behind the home, along with several other walking paths. We loved the attention to detail – the handmade, one-of-a-kind four-poster bed is truly something else. And let’s not forget about the views… We particularly enjoyed gazing at the green fields from the living room window.

It’s no surprise this beautiful home was featured in House & Garden. One look at its carefully curated decor and you’ll know exactly why its interiors were lauded for their salvaged materials and keen sense of vintage design. 
 
Once an old tailor's workshop dating back to 1906, the owners have lovingly restored the original timber-framed and corrugated iron building, keeping much of its characterful history intact while bringing a freshness and individuality to its renovation through thoughtful repurposing.
 
The main living space stunningly contrasts vintage industrial pieces with contemporary modern furnishings to create a boutique atmosphere in which you’ll love relaxing. We love the warmth of the wooden panelling offset by the simple white floors, as well as the midnight blue walls courtesy of Farrow & Ball. The long, rustic dining table beckons celebratory meals and sets a tone of conviviality that is felt throughout, while a Czech pommel horse works as a coffee table next to a Victorian sofa, creating a blend of textures and eras that feels like a seamless step through history.  Factor in the industrial pendants hanging from the ceiling, not to mention the wonderfully comfortable bed dressed in Egyptian cotton sheets, as well as the gorgeous copper shower, and you’ve got everything you need for a singularly stylish stay. 
 
Your locale in the heart of the quintessential Cotswold village of Woodmancote makes it easy to explore this bucolic region, with countless picture-book towns and villages a short car journey away. And your apartment, overlooking Clarence Square, slots in seamlessly. There’s an understated elegance to the interiors – the tones are muted and well-considered to create a space that’s both sophisticated and inviting. While you already have everything you need to ensure a blissful stay – the kitchen’s fully equipped and the super king size bed is absurdly comfortable – your host is on hand to make it that bit more special with a choice of optional extras. Perhaps you’ll pick the breakfast hamper, or if your team’s in the playoffs, go for the Sky Sports package. When it’s time to explore, Pittville Park is a ten-minute walk away for morning strolls that clear the cobwebs and picnics when the weather is nice. But now and again there’s an opulent flourish – we loved the chandelier and gold-framed mirrors in the living space. A tufted sofa with matching footstool calls for settling in with your favourite beverage while flicking through the restaurant recommendations in the welcome pack. From seasonal British fodder in an old Art Deco cinema to international fare by the leafy Montpellier Gardens, you’re spoilt for choice for places to eat. Begin your mornings with a cup of tea in the courtyard before strolling through Pittville Park, a thirty-minute walk away, or time your stay right and experience one of the town’s famous events – you’re less than fifteen minutes from Imperial Gardens the annual Music Festival is held.

While still preserving its integrity as a classical stone home, the inside of this cottage has been thoroughly modernised. We love the ubiquitous use of wood – with warm paneled windows in the living area, rustic beams in the bedroom and a beautiful antique dining set. It’s not hard to tell that every detail here has been carefully considered – from the stylish exposed stonework to the plush robes in the loft-style bedroom. Relax on the sofa with your holiday read, or fix up a meal in the well-equipped kitchen – in both rooms you’ll find signs of your host's exquisite eye for detail. Spend long days out in the large garden, sitting at the lovely table underneath the trees and soaking in vistas of the surrounding greenery. As for activities, this idyllic rural location offers excellent walking paths and cycling routes. Of course, if you just want to admire the countryside from your perch in the garden, that’s plenty of activity too.

If it’s a calming country escape that you’re after, this glorious Gloucestershire bolthole is your golden ticket. Just six miles south of pretty Cheltenham and set right in the heart of the Cotswold Way, when it comes to wonderful walking routes and picture–perfect scenery, you’d struggle to find anywhere more ideal.

Outside, there’s three quarters of an acre of land across three gardens, offering plenty of space to enjoy the sunshine during the warmer months. Oh, and did we mention that there’s a private pool and hot tub, too? When temperatures soar, pop on your favourite swimwear and dive into its cooling depths for an instant refresh from the scorching sunshine.

For those visiting during autumn and winter, the pool might be off–limits, but there’s still plenty to be enjoyed. With beautiful beamed ceilings, oak floors and sumptuous soft furnishings peppered from room to room, wherever you choose to unwind, you’re sure to feel snug as a bug. For us, it’s the large open fireplace that really sets the scene. We can see it now – all cosied up in our best pyjamas with a hot mug of cocoa and a good book…perfection!

We’re sure you’ll be in no rush to dash out, but with lots to see and do right on your doorstep, a little venture into the open air is sure to do you good. Fancy a bite to eat? Located on a quiet street yet just a minute's walk from Cheltenham's high street, this home is the ideal base for those looking to be in the heart of the town's action. Ever stayed in a renovated tractor shed? Well, you’re in for a treat with this two-level home. It’s full of rustic charm, but that’s not to say it doesn’t have all the mod cons you’d expect. There’s a large, well-equipped kitchen-diner, and a cosy log burner. We love that the bedrooms have super-king and king-sized beds and there’s a sunny courtyard garden for enjoying some produce from the local farm shop. Just a few steps from this home is the Cotswold Way, perfect for a hike, or explore the nearby spa town of Cheltenham.

A rural idyll set on a small, family-run farm, this place oozes charm. A converted stone barn packed with character, it's the ideal place if you're looking for a country bolthole for a large group. In terms of style, it's all stone floors, oak beams and classic country furnishings. The huge wall of windows floods the main living room with light, with its feature log burner, grand piano and galleried landing taking centre stage. There's a garden room, a large kitchen-diner and, if the youngsters would rather watch a film separately, there's a cosy snug. Bedrooms are supremely comfortable, and you'll have enough bathrooms to banish those morning queues for the shower. If it's a nice day (and why wouldn't it be?) you can step out onto the home's beautiful terrace for breakfast overlooking the garden – a safe and enclosed space for the children to play. Explore the farm, owned by the same family for 220 years, and you may meet some of their rare breed sheep, cattle, hens and pet donkeys. Wildlife-friendly, the farm is also home to rare native flora and fauna, and the owners are happy to sell you their honey, eggs, lamb and beautiful woven blankets produced from sheep on the farm. All this and it's just a twenty-minute drive to Cheltenham in one direction and to Stow-on-the-Wold in the other.

Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.

The kitchen is both large and dazzlingly white, perfect for any culinary experimentation you have in mind. With a whole town of Regency architecture to admire, Cheltenham is full of listed buildings and has an altogether regal air. While it might be well known for the races, you don’t need to don your best hat when staying in this funky, modern home, eleven minutes from the town centre. With classic features like large Georgian windows in every room, but a playful and colourful decor, there’s a certain delight in the contrasts. We also love the mirrored dressing table in the bedroom, which feels more LA than Gloucestershire, but certainly adds to the VIP vibe. Its large bathroom boasts a huge freestanding tub as well as a separate rainfall shower – much better than the famous English drizzle. And if you're lucky enough to be here during a sunny spell, you’ve got your own private patio with a cute dining set – perfect for an alfresco glass of pinot grigio. If you’re in need of some more lush greenery, pack a picnic full of local deli goods and head out to Montpellier Gardens, a seven-minute walk from home.

Eleven minutes from the town centre, this apartment offers an elegant base for your stay in Gloucestershire. A neutral palette of colours in the living space brings a sense of calm, with a plush, pale-peach sofa and sand-coloured walls contrasting beautifully with dark wooden floors. Of course in this historic place, there would have to be some original features to admire in the home. Our favourites are the Georgian sash windows, ornate ceiling rose, and green tiled fireplace. Imagine cosying up around this striking hearth with a glass of pinot noir in hand – bliss. Another excellent spot to enjoy sipping wine would be in the freestanding bathtub, just for an extra feeling of spa-like luxury. In the morning, after a cup of Earl Grey, hop in the car and explore the Cotswolds half an hour away. Or if you’re looking for a more local green space, Montpellier Gardens are just a seven-minute walk from home.

The Top Hat

This Victorian terraced cottage is the ideal Cheltenham escape. Each room is as comfortable as the next (although some are a little dated), and the fireplace in the living area makes the whole home feel even cosier. Outside, a small garden is perfect for summer sundowners, while the kitchen makes mealtimes a breeze. Or, you could always stroll over to Bath Road for a bite instead – it's home to an array of shops and eateries. The city centre is a twenty-minute walk away, but one small car can be parked in the yard if you'd rather drive.

One look at the rolling Painswick Valley views on the horizon from the outdoor seating area, and you'll understand why this cottage made it into our English collection. Tranquil, because of its secluded spot, the house boasts traditional wooden beams, a farmhouse kitchen and a wood-burning stove and pairs it with modern elements. If the large garden doesn't keep the little ones entertained – unlikely – there's also a games room with table football, but they might need help up and down the steep stone staircase to get there. Location-wise, you're near Stroud's renowned Farmer's Market, while Cheltenham is just a 20-minute drive away.

This renovated coach house has been thoughtfully curated into a cosy retreat. Inside, the rooms are simple and family friendly with flexible sleeping arrangements. There is also a private terrace with a barbecue – perfect for lazy summer days. Private parking is available and you’ll find everything you could need within walking distance. From here, it’s a short stroll to Cheltenham’s restaurants, bars and shops. There are also plenty of hiking and cycle trails to be discovered in the surrounding area.

What's not to love about this home's colourful accents, outdoor space, and flexible bed set-ups for different groups? Some phone networks may struggle to get a good signal here, but there's plenty to do on your doorstep to minimise your screen time. The town centre and Pitville Park are just minutes away on foot, plus free parking invites you to plan road trips to the nearby Cotswolds.

Cosy Cheltenham

Whether you're visiting Cheltenham for business or pleasure, this modern townhouse is a fantastic option. You're close to the city centre, making it easy to explore on foot – though free parking is available if you'd rather get around on four wheels. Back home, there's a cosy lounge, a sleek kitchen, and four comfortable bedrooms. Two also have the option to be arranged with twin beds, providing flexible sleeping arrangements. The cherry on top is the private garden, the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine in the sunshine.

This grade II-listed house offers all the home comforts you could need for a fuss-free, relaxing stay. While the bedrooms don’t boast tons of space, the cosy living room and extra reception area provide enough room for your group to sprawl out and unwind while dinner's being prepared in the big kitchen. But for us, this home is all about its prime location. Just a short walk from Cheltenham's historic city centre, if you don’t feel like cooking, there’s a whole host of restaurants to enjoy. And for ventures further into the Cotswolds, you'll find free on-street parking nearby.
