Deep in the heart of the Cotswolds, we found this idyllic home to be an ideal setting for a romantic escape. Both Glouster and Cheltenham are a short drive away, but beautiful nature, picturesque villages, and country pubs accessible via cross-country walks are the main draw here. As it's an annex, you won't be completely secluded outside, but the home is yours alone and has a private entrance. While there are plenty of welcome authentic touches – especially the wooden lintels and exposed brickwork – the sloping ceiling in the bedroom might inconvenience taller guests.

The ground floor space is open and sociable, and there's a garden room (which doubles as a second bedroom) opening to a lovely terrace with far-reaching views. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it's a walker's paradise, and the home has paths that run from the rear to various trails, including the Cotswolds Way. A thirty-five minute walk will take you to a grand country hotel for lunch and it's just a little further to the pub.

It’s no surprise this beautiful home was featured in House & Garden. One look at its carefully curated decor and you’ll know exactly why its interiors were lauded for their salvaged materials and keen sense of vintage design. 
 
Once an old tailor's workshop dating back to 1906, the owners have lovingly restored the original timber-framed and corrugated iron building, keeping much of its characterful history intact while bringing a freshness and individuality to its renovation through thoughtful repurposing.
 
The main living space stunningly contrasts vintage industrial pieces with contemporary modern furnishings to create a boutique atmosphere in which you’ll love relaxing. We love the warmth of the wooden panelling offset by the simple white floors, as well as the midnight blue walls courtesy of Farrow & Ball. The long, rustic dining table beckons celebratory meals and sets a tone of conviviality that is felt throughout, while a Czech pommel horse works as a coffee table next to a Victorian sofa, creating a blend of textures and eras that feels like a seamless step through history.  Factor in the industrial pendants hanging from the ceiling, not to mention the wonderfully comfortable bed dressed in Egyptian cotton sheets, as well as the gorgeous copper shower, and you’ve got everything you need for a singularly stylish stay. 
 
Your locale in the heart of the quintessential Cotswold village of Woodmancote makes it easy to explore this bucolic region, with countless picture-book towns and villages a short car journey away. Another excellent spot to enjoy sipping wine would be in the freestanding bathtub, just for an extra feeling of spa-like luxury. In the morning, after a cup of Earl Grey, hop in the car and explore the Cotswolds half an hour away. Or if you’re looking for a more local green space, Montpellier Gardens are just a seven-minute walk from home.

Second Nature is the best of both worlds. Found on the edge of Cheltenham, it’s only a short drive from the city, while still feeling incredibly idyllic and rural because of its immediate surroundings. Ideally placed for countryside walks, the Cotswold Way passes right behind the home, along with several other walking paths. We loved the attention to detail – the handmade, one-of-a-kind four-poster bed is truly something else. And let’s not forget about the views… We particularly enjoyed gazing at the green fields from the living room window.

While still preserving its integrity as a classical stone home, the inside of this cottage has been thoroughly modernised. We love the ubiquitous use of wood – with warm paneled windows in the living area, rustic beams in the bedroom and a beautiful antique dining set. It’s not hard to tell that every detail here has been carefully considered – from the stylish exposed stonework to the plush robes in the loft-style bedroom. Relax on the sofa with your holiday read, or fix up a meal in the well-equipped kitchen – in both rooms you’ll find signs of your host's exquisite eye for detail. Spend long days out in the large garden, sitting at the lovely table underneath the trees and soaking in vistas of the surrounding greenery. As for activities, this idyllic rural location offers excellent walking paths and cycling routes. Of course, if you just want to admire the countryside from your perch in the garden, that’s plenty of activity too.

If it’s a calming country escape that you’re after, this glorious Gloucestershire bolthole is your golden ticket. Just six miles south of pretty Cheltenham and set right in the heart of the Cotswold Way, when it comes to wonderful walking routes and picture–perfect scenery, you’d struggle to find anywhere more ideal.

Outside, there’s three quarters of an acre of land across three gardens, offering plenty of space to enjoy the sunshine during the warmer months. Oh, and did we mention that there’s a private pool and hot tub, too? When temperatures soar, pop on your favourite swimwear and dive into its cooling depths for an instant refresh from the scorching sunshine.

For those visiting during autumn and winter, the pool might be off–limits, but there’s still plenty to be enjoyed. With beautiful beamed ceilings, oak floors and sumptuous soft furnishings peppered from room to room, wherever you choose to unwind, you’re sure to feel snug as a bug. For us, it’s the large open fireplace that really sets the scene. We can see it now – all cosied up in our best pyjamas with a hot mug of cocoa and a good book…perfection!

We’re sure you’ll be in no rush to dash out, but with lots to see and do right on your doorstep, a little venture into the open air is sure to do you good. Fancy a bite to eat? Head to The Royal George Hotel, Birdlip, just 1.5 miles away. Or perhaps it’s some shorter, family–friendly walks you’re hoping for? Located on a quiet street yet just a minute's walk from Cheltenham's high street, this home is the ideal base for those looking to be in the heart of the town's action. We love the large glass doors that lead out onto a private patio garden – the ideal spot to begin sunny mornings with a cup of Earl Grey and toast to good times over sundowners. The two bedrooms, meanwhile, are pared back and sophisticated (you've even got a choice of pillows to suit your preference) but it’s the master bathroom that really steals the show with its freestanding tub under a beautiful fanned mirror. Treat yourself to a long soak after a day of exploring  – a glass of bubbly in hand – and relish the quiet of your garden-facing locale. Speaking of sightseeing, you’ve got a plethora of restaurants, shops and wine bars on your front step, while Montpellier Gardens is an eight-minute stroll away. Pittville Park is also walkable in twenty minutes, the Promenade is six minutes away on foot and the iconic Cheltenham Racecourse is a nine-minute drive from your door.

One look at the rolling Painswick Valley views on the horizon from the outdoor seating area, and you'll understand why this cottage made it into our English collection. Tranquil, because of its secluded spot, the house boasts traditional wooden beams, a farmhouse kitchen and a wood-burning stove and pairs it with modern elements. If the large garden doesn't keep the little ones entertained – unlikely – there's also a games room with table football, but they might need help up and down the steep stone staircase to get there. Location-wise, you're near Stroud's renowned Farmer's Market, while Cheltenham is just a 20-minute drive away.

A rural idyll set on a small, family-run farm, this place oozes charm. A converted stone barn packed with character, it's the ideal place if you're looking for a country bolthole for a large group. In terms of style, it's all stone floors, oak beams and classic country furnishings. The huge wall of windows floods the main living room with light, with its feature log burner, grand piano and galleried landing taking centre stage. There's a garden room, a large kitchen-diner and, if the youngsters would rather watch a film separately, there's a cosy snug. Bedrooms are supremely comfortable, and you'll have enough bathrooms to banish those morning queues for the shower. If it's a nice day (and why wouldn't it be?) you can step out onto the home's beautiful terrace for breakfast overlooking the garden – a safe and enclosed space for the children to play. Explore the farm, owned by the same family for 220 years, and you may meet some of their rare breed sheep, cattle, hens and pet donkeys. Wildlife-friendly, the farm is also home to rare native flora and fauna, and the owners are happy to sell you their honey, eggs, lamb and beautiful woven blankets produced from sheep on the farm. All this and it's just a twenty-minute drive to Cheltenham in one direction and to Stow-on-the-Wold in the other.

Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.

Ever stayed in a renovated tractor shed? Well, you’re in for a treat with this two-level home. It’s full of rustic charm, but that’s not to say it doesn’t have all the mod cons you’d expect. There’s a large, well-equipped kitchen-diner, and a cosy log burner. We love that the bedrooms have super-king and king-sized beds and there’s a sunny courtyard garden for enjoying some produce from the local farm shop. Just a few steps from this home is the Cotswold Way, perfect for a hike, or explore the nearby spa town of Cheltenham.

Once upon a time, this quaint cottage was actually a barn used to store grain. Since then, it has been lovingly renovated into a dainty holiday home perfect for a small family getaway. Situated on the owners' farm on the outskirts of Cheltenham and close to the village of Shurdington, it's right on the edge of the Cotswolds. The velvet sofas and original wooden beams create a cosy atmosphere which is enhanced when you light up the wood-burning stove on chilly evenings. There's also a private garden where you can grill up a feast to share at the alfresco dining area. Exploring the surrounding countryside is easy from here, whether you're planning to travel on foot, by car, on a bike or even by horseback – that's right, for an additional fee, you can rent a neighbouring stable for your steed. Cheltenham Racecourse is just six miles away, while the charming towns of Bourton-on-the-Water and Bibury are both less than a twenty-mile drive from your front door.

Situated in the Lansdown area of Cheltenham, a five-minute walk from the swanky Montpellier neighbourhood, this apartment is perfectly placed to sample all this Regency town has to offer. The interiors reflect their surroundings: elegant and sophisticated. The colour scheme is neutral – it’s all pastels with natural textured accents. But now and again there’s an opulent flourish – we loved the chandelier and gold-framed mirrors in the living space. A tufted sofa with matching footstool calls for settling in with your favourite beverage while flicking through the restaurant recommendations in the welcome pack. A fifteen-minute walk will take you into the centre of Cheltenham, with its Regency architecture, independent shops, and cosy pubs. The famous racecourse is just a ten-minute drive away, while the Cotswolds' picture-perfect villages are close by too. We recommend a trip to idyllic Bourton-on-the-Water – it's a thirty-minute car ride away.

Located in the charming market town of Cirencester, this Grade II listed cottage is the perfect base for a couple or close-knit group of friends looking to spend some time in the capital of the Cotswolds. Inside, it’s modern yet characterful – we loved the original timber beams, log-burning stove and charming spiral staircase that leads to the cosy second bedroom. Should you have some work to attend to, there’s an office space for you to set up your laptop. 

Wake up with a coffee in the quiet living space before putting together a tasty breakfast in the farmhouse-style kitchen. If the weather is on your side, spill out into the garden and finish cups of tea at the bistro set in the warm sunshine. 

Pull on your comfiest shoes and get to know your surroundings. You’re a seven-minute walk from the indie shops that cluster around Market Place and five minutes from the Barton Lane entrance of Cirencester Park – an excellent place to stop for a picnic. Take a dip in the spring-fed, open-air pool in the heights of the summer, follow bridleways that snake through the unspoilt countryside or jump in the car and spend an afternoon in pretty Bibury, a fifteen-minute drive away.
