Take a bite out of this real chocolate box cottage in the Costwolds, set in heart of the pretty village of Ebrington. In an elevated position on a raised path, it's just steps away from the village church and the popular pub. Inside, the Grade II listed cottage has been recently been lovingly refurbished but it retains much of its character, with beamed ceilings, an open fireplace and a stone floor. The comfortable sofas are perfect for snuggling on after a day out walking or sightseeing and there's a charming eat-in kitchen with everything you could need. Upstairs, bedrooms are bright and comfortable, in relaxing shades of white and greys, and two bathrooms mean there won't be any queuing for the shower each morning. The enclosed garden is particularly beautiful in the spring and summer, with a table and chairs as well as a barbecue. Just a seven-minute drive from Chipping Campden and less than twenty-five minutes from both Stow-on-the-Wold and Stratford-upon-Avon, it's a perfect spot for exploring this part of the country.

There's something to satisfy everyone's wanderlust at this charming period cottage nestled right in the beating heart of Chipping Campden. This is your gateway to the best of the Cotswolds – Market Hall, The Spa at Cotswold House and Chipping Campden's bustling high street are all within walking distance. And when it's time to explore further afield, jump in the car and you can be in the chocolate-box villages of Bourton-on-the Water and Stow-on-the-Wold in fifteen minutes flat. 

Back at this cosy home away from home, exposed Cotswold stone walls, higgledy-piggledy beams and a crackling wood-burning stove bring all the charm. While we liked the comfortable bedrooms and sparkling bathrooms, what really blew us away was the impressive kitchen and dining area. It's the true hub of the home, with plenty of room to cook and dine together. We can easily imagine mornings here, the French doors open wide as you sip coffee on the patio and tuck into a lazy breakfast around the dining table. We also loved the techy extras, like nest heating, electronic locks and Google Home Bluetooth speakers. With the occasional bleat from the neighbouring sheep your only distraction, it doesn't get much more charming than this.

A true recipient of the Plum Award, this home has also received the Green Tourism Silver Award, in recognition of this host's dedication to green initiatives such as energy and water efficiency and mindful waste reduction. Your host can share recommendations on local farmers markets and shops selling locally-sourced food, as well as eco-friendly activities such as cycling routes and nature trails to help you enjoy your stay in Chipping Campden, all the while reducing your carbon footprint. Admired for its wealth of beautiful architecture and history stretching back to Saxon times, this is Cotswolds at its best – and the same can be said for this charming cottage.

Recently restored throughout, while lofty exposed oak beams and honey Cotswold stone walls remain to tell of the lodge’s rich heritage, everywhere else is beautifully reimagined for luxurious modern living. Upstairs, on the first floor, you’ll find one hug of a king-sized bed feathered in quality Egyptian Cotton awaiting in the two serene double bedrooms and a luxurious rolltop bath for post-hike evening soaks. While up into the eaves on the top floor, you'll find a characterful third bedroom with twin beds that would perfectly suit children or friends sharing. 

But it’s back downstairs in the expertly extended living areas where we think you’ll spend most of your time together. Hunker down in the cosy lounge for board games and catch-ups. Then spill out into the light-filled dining area overlooking a pretty courtyard garden for drinks and nibbles. And though cooking is a joy in that made-for-action kitchen, those charming local inns and top-notch restaurants on your doorstep might just be too tempting. 

The Grooms Keep

You’ll find this renovated church in the village of Paxford, an ideal base from which to explore the Cotswolds. It may not be suitable for children due to the staircase design and historic fixtures throughout the home, but it offers a relaxing retreat for four guests. The mezzanine bedroom is impressive, if lacking a little in privacy, and offers a different perspective of the interiors of this historic building. And with hiking trails on its doorstep, you can be out soaking up the great outdoors in no time.

Nestled away in the sort of picturesque village that's quintessentially Cotswolds, this home was once a barn in a former life and there are a few rustic traces to be spotted throughout, from the patches of stone flooring and wooden ceiling beams to the roaring fireplace in the living room.

However, these features are few and far between, with the rest of the living quarters treated to all the hallmarks of clean, contemporary design – we're talking stark white walls, gleaming kitchen surfaces and equally glossy bathrooms. Possibly our favourite part, however, is the conservatory at the back of the home, which is a lovely spot for lunch and a little bird-spotting.

If you're particularly lucky with the weather, you'll have the opportunity to make the most of the large garden, which goes around almost every side of the house so you can follow the course of the sun during the day. In the courtyard to the rear, there's also a large alfresco dining table that's just the spot for enjoying dinner fresh off the barbecue.

When you're in the mood to see a little more of the local area, there's a decent choice of walking routes to embark upon straight from the surrounding village of Paxton, but you can also easily reach other Cotswolds attractions – Batsford Arboretum is just over three miles away, for instance.

Built in the 18th century, it's hard to believe this pretty Cotswolds cottage was once the village police station. Now beautifully modernised, it's a great choice for a family gathering. With all the country walks you could dream of on your doorstep, it's also super convenient – just a five-minute walk from the village shop, cafe and pub in Blockley. Set over three floors and built of the same traditional stone you'll see across the road at the local church, it's a striking building with black-framed, arched windows. Inside, the period features continue with beamed ceilings, wood floors and some exposed stone walls. We especially love the log burning stove in the fireplace opening between the living room and dining room. Extended to the rear, there's a stunning kitchen with a huge roof lantern bringing light in. With a country feel but modern appliances and underfloor heating, it's the best of both worlds. Elsewhere, bedrooms are comfortable and effortlessly stylish. The top floor bedroom is our favourite, with its beautiful bed, sloping ceiling and luxury bathroom. On sunny days, heat up the barbecue and enjoy your meal on the terrace, or step into the table tennis room in the garden and play a few games while dinner cooks. Here you'll be just a twelve-minute drive from Stow-on-the-Wold.

A Field in Bloom

Nestled in Todenham village, this home is perfect for those keen to explore the great outdoors. It’s comfortable for six people, although the third bedroom is a bit of a squeeze and has a wardrobe on the landing. That said, throughout the cottage, you’re met with 17th-century charm – just mind your head on those sloping ceilings and beautiful old beams. With three country pubs within 3-5 miles and a farm shop selling local produce a short walk away, you won’t be short of options at mealtimes. In summer, alfresco dinners in the quaint cottage garden are a must.

Upstairs, the three bedrooms offer cosy spots to rest your head, while freestanding baths are perfect for evening soaks. Combined with the convenient location in the heart of Chipping Campden, we think it's a prime spot for a country getaway.

This is a typical cottage – spread over three floors, with low ceilings and beams, so may not be the best option for those who may struggle with stairs. Just a fifteen-minute drive from Moreton Marsh train station, which has good transport links to London and Oxford – so you can have the best of both worlds.
