This place is brimming with original features and some more modern additions, including the all-important wood-burning stove and a slipper bath. The house gets its name from the original water pump in the front garden, while out back, there's a deck with a sofa – perfect for an alfresco drink. We also love the secret garden room ideal for remote working (note it's not available to use during the winter months). It's just 2 miles to Hidcote Manor – a National Trust property – while the quintessential Cotswold village of Broadway is 8 miles away. Or, there's a highly regarded village pub a two-minute stroll from your door – perfect after a walk around the countryside.

In an elevated position on a raised path, it's just steps away from the village church and the popular pub. Inside, the Grade II listed cottage has been recently been lovingly refurbished but it retains much of its character, with beamed ceilings, an open fireplace and a stone floor. The comfortable sofas are perfect for snuggling on after a day out walking or sightseeing and there's a charming eat-in kitchen with everything you could need. Upstairs, bedrooms are bright and comfortable, in relaxing shades of white and greys, and two bathrooms mean there won't be any queuing for the shower each morning. The enclosed garden is particularly beautiful in the spring and summer, with a table and chairs as well as a barbecue. Just a seven-minute drive from Chipping Campden and less than twenty-five minutes from both Stow-on-the-Wold and Stratford-upon-Avon, it's a perfect spot for exploring this part of the country.

It may not be suitable for children due to the staircase design and historic fixtures throughout the home, but it offers a relaxing retreat for four guests. And with hiking trails on its doorstep, you can be out soaking up the great outdoors in no time.

This is a typical cottage – spread over three floors, with low ceilings and beams, so may not be the best option for those who may struggle with stairs. Just a fifteen-minute drive from Moreton Marsh train station, which has good transport links to London and Oxford – so you can have the best of both worlds.

Nestled away in the sort of picturesque village that's quintessentially Cotswolds, this home was once a barn in a former life and there are a few rustic traces to be spotted throughout, from the patches of stone flooring and wooden ceiling beams to the roaring fireplace in the living room.

However, these features are few and far between, with the rest of the living quarters treated to all the hallmarks of clean, contemporary design – we're talking stark white walls, gleaming kitchen surfaces and equally glossy bathrooms. Possibly our favourite part, however, is the conservatory at the back of the home, which is a lovely spot for lunch and a little bird-spotting.

If you're particularly lucky with the weather, you'll have the opportunity to make the most of the large garden, which goes around almost every side of the house so you can follow the course of the sun during the day. In the courtyard to the rear, there's also a large alfresco dining table that's just the spot for enjoying dinner fresh off the barbecue.

When you're in the mood to see a little more of the local area, there's a decent choice of walking routes to embark upon straight from the surrounding village of Paxton, but you can also easily reach other Cotswolds attractions – Batsford Arboretum is just over three miles away, for instance.

Built in the 18th century, it's hard to believe this pretty Cotswolds cottage was once the village police station. Now beautifully modernised, it's a great choice for a family gathering. With all the country walks you could dream of on your doorstep, it's also super convenient – just a five-minute walk from the village shop, cafe and pub in Blockley. Set over three floors and built of the same traditional stone you'll see across the road at the local church, it's a striking building with black-framed, arched windows. Inside, the period features continue with beamed ceilings, wood floors and some exposed stone walls. We especially love the log burning stove in the fireplace opening between the living room and dining room. Extended to the rear, there's a stunning kitchen with a huge roof lantern bringing light in. With a country feel but modern appliances and underfloor heating, it's the best of both worlds. Elsewhere, bedrooms are comfortable and effortlessly stylish. The top floor bedroom is our favourite, with its beautiful bed, sloping ceiling and luxury bathroom. On sunny days, heat up the barbecue and enjoy your meal on the terrace, or step into the table tennis room in the garden and play a few games while dinner cooks. Here you'll be just a twelve-minute drive from Stow-on-the-Wold.

The house dates back to the 19th century but has been given a modern makeover. We love the contemporary kitchen, leading onto a small garden outside which is ideal for alfresco dinner and drinks. Still, there are plenty of traditional touches to admire here, especially the stone hearth (complete with a wood burner) and rustic wooden beams in the lounge.

Nestled in the village of Broad Campden, this charming cottage is an ideal base for a countryside stay. With the bedrooms on the ground floor, and open-plan living, dining and kitchen area on the first floor, you can make the most of the views – just mind your head on those beautiful old beams and sloping ceilings. With a terrace offering up a vista of the rolling north Cotswolds, it won't be a mystery why we added this home to our collection. Previously a home for silk mill workers, we loved how homely the space is – start a roaring fire in the inglenook fireplace (made with local stone, no less) and relax after a long hike or a short stroll through the local village. In the garden, the alfresco dining area is perfect for afternoon tea, while the sun loungers let you take in the view in-between naps. For dinner, you've got several pubs within a short walk here.

It’s comfortable for six people, although the third bedroom is a bit of a squeeze and has a wardrobe on the landing. With three country pubs within 3-5 miles and a farm shop selling local produce a short walk away, you won’t be short of options at mealtimes. In summer, alfresco dinners in the quaint cottage garden are a must.

Back at this cosy home away from home, exposed Cotswold stone walls, higgledy-piggledy beams and a crackling wood-burning stove bring all the charm. While we liked the comfortable bedrooms and sparkling bathrooms, what really blew us away was the impressive kitchen and dining area. It's the true hub of the home, with plenty of room to cook and dine together. We can easily imagine mornings here, the French doors open wide as you sip coffee on the patio and tuck into a lazy breakfast around the dining table. We also loved the techy extras, like nest heating, electronic locks and Google Home Bluetooth speakers. With the occasional bleat from the neighbouring sheep your only distraction, it doesn't get much more charming than this.

A true recipient of the Plum Award, this home has also received the Green Tourism Silver Award, in recognition of this host's dedication to green initiatives such as energy and water efficiency and mindful waste reduction. Sure, it may be a little small in places and not very special to look at inside, but this is probably the wrong address for you if that's a problem. For everybody else, you'll love sitting out in the peaceful garden during warm afternoons or relaxing indoors after bracing rambles through the surrounding countryside.

Whether you’re in search of a countryside adventure or a cosy escape, this Cotswolds home welcomes you to enjoy it all from its peaceful spot in Mickleton.
