Enjoy a cosy stay at this cottage in Mickleton. You're just a stone's throw from the Cotswolds Way, so set off on an afternoon amble, finishing at one of the two village pubs. Chipping Campden, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Warwick are also within driving distance and make great options for day trips. The house dates back to the 19th century but has been given a modern makeover. We love the contemporary kitchen, leading onto a small garden outside which is ideal for alfresco dinner and drinks. Still, there are plenty of traditional touches to admire here, especially the stone hearth (complete with a wood burner) and rustic wooden beams in the lounge.

There's something to satisfy everyone's wanderlust at this charming period cottage nestled right in the beating heart of Chipping Campden. This is your gateway to the best of the Cotswolds – Market Hall, The Spa at Cotswold House and Chipping Campden's bustling high street are all within walking distance. And when it's time to explore further afield, jump in the car and you can be in the chocolate-box villages of Bourton-on-the Water and Stow-on-the-Wold in fifteen minutes flat. 

Back at this cosy home away from home, exposed Cotswold stone walls, higgledy-piggledy beams and a crackling wood-burning stove bring all the charm. While we liked the comfortable bedrooms and sparkling bathrooms, what really blew us away was the impressive kitchen and dining area. It's the true hub of the home, with plenty of room to cook and dine together. We can easily imagine mornings here, the French doors open wide as you sip coffee on the patio and tuck into a lazy breakfast around the dining table. We also loved the techy extras, like nest heating, electronic locks and Google Home Bluetooth speakers. With the occasional bleat from the neighbouring sheep your only distraction, it doesn't get much more charming than this.

A true recipient of the Plum Award, this home has also received the Green Tourism Silver Award, in recognition of this host's dedication to green initiatives such as energy and water efficiency and mindful waste reduction. Your host can share recommendations on local farmers markets and shops selling locally-sourced food, as well as eco-friendly activities such as cycling routes and nature trails to help you enjoy your stay in Chipping Campden, all the while reducing your carbon footprint. You’ll find this renovated church in the village of Paxford, an ideal base from which to explore the Cotswolds. It may not be suitable for children due to the staircase design and historic fixtures throughout the home, but it offers a relaxing retreat for four guests. Recently restored throughout, while lofty exposed oak beams and honey Cotswold stone walls remain to tell of the lodge’s rich heritage, everywhere else is beautifully reimagined for luxurious modern living. Upstairs, on the first floor, you’ll find one hug of a king-sized bed feathered in quality Egyptian Cotton awaiting in the two serene double bedrooms and a luxurious rolltop bath for post-hike evening soaks. While up into the eaves on the top floor, you'll find a characterful third bedroom with twin beds that would perfectly suit children or friends sharing. 

But it’s back downstairs in the expertly extended living areas where we think you’ll spend most of your time together. Hunker down in the cosy lounge for board games and catch-ups. Then spill out into the light-filled dining area overlooking a pretty courtyard garden for drinks and nibbles. Relax with a glass of bubbly in the private hot tub with its idyllic views through the farm to the fields beyond (your lovely hosts provide bathrobes and slippers), then savour a barbecue lunch in the sun. It's also the perfect spot to do a bit of stargazing when the night skies are clear and full of sparkling diamonds. Beautiful bi-fold doors provide plenty of light inside this single-level barn, which was once a grain store. We love the gorgeous stone floor and exposed wooden roof beams framing the high ceiling. A fresh colour scheme of pale cream, yellows and greys complement the rustic yet stylish design. If you can tear yourself away from this love nest, there's plenty to explore. Go for a walk to the historic riverside village of Bidford-on-Avon, sixteen minutes on foot, where you'll find an array of charming pubs, restaurants, shops, and a picturesque church built in 1250. Or visit Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon, around a twenty-five-minute drive, while stunning Warwick Castle is a few minutes more in the car. The magnificent Cotswolds are on your doorstep too – Hidcote Manor Garden, near Chipping Campden, just over a fifteen-minute ride, which has one of Britain's most influential Arts and Crafts gardens.

Nestled in the village of Broad Campden, this charming cottage is an ideal base for a countryside stay. With the bedrooms on the ground floor, and open-plan living, dining and kitchen area on the first floor, you can make the most of the views – just mind your head on those beautiful old beams and sloping ceilings. Locally, you can hike the Monarch’s Way trail from the village, or stroll to the local pub for some sustenance. And, with Chipping Campden, Broadway and Blockley within easy reach, soaking up Cotswold life is a breeze.

With a terrace offering up a vista of the rolling north Cotswolds, it won't be a mystery why we added this home to our collection. Previously a home for silk mill workers, we loved how homely the space is – start a roaring fire in the inglenook fireplace (made with local stone, no less) and relax after a long hike or a short stroll through the local village. In the garden, the alfresco dining area is perfect for afternoon tea, while the sun loungers let you take in the view in-between naps. For dinner, you've got several pubs within a short walk here.

Tucked away in the village of Blockley, this 19th-century cottage sets the tone for a romantic Cotswolds getaway. Inside, the rooms invite a wonderful sense of comfort thanks to the traditional features, open fire, original Aga and antique furnishings. Outside, you can enjoy views across the surrounding deer park while relaxing on the decking – there’s also a charcoal barbecue and chiminea provided. And if you prefer to dine out, it’s just a short walk to the pub, while nearby Stow-on-the-Wold and Broadway are also within easy driving distance.

Nestled away in the sort of picturesque village that's quintessentially Cotswolds, this home was once a barn in a former life and there are a few rustic traces to be spotted throughout, from the patches of stone flooring and wooden ceiling beams to the roaring fireplace in the living room.

However, these features are few and far between, with the rest of the living quarters treated to all the hallmarks of clean, contemporary design – we're talking stark white walls, gleaming kitchen surfaces and equally glossy bathrooms. Possibly our favourite part, however, is the conservatory at the back of the home, which is a lovely spot for lunch and a little bird-spotting.

If you're particularly lucky with the weather, you'll have the opportunity to make the most of the large garden, which goes around almost every side of the house so you can follow the course of the sun during the day. In the courtyard to the rear, there's also a large alfresco dining table that's just the spot for enjoying dinner fresh off the barbecue.

When you're in the mood to see a little more of the local area, there's a decent choice of walking routes to embark upon straight from the surrounding village of Paxton, but you can also easily reach other Cotswolds attractions – Batsford Arboretum is just over three miles away, for instance.

Combined with the convenient location in the heart of Chipping Campden, we think it's a prime spot for a country getaway.

Guests should note there are low ceilings throughout, and the steep stairs mean this isn’t the best option for those with reduced mobility. However, you will find a sweet garden and patio. Plus, it’s a great base from which to explore the region. Follow hiking trails straight from the door, walk to the local pub or adventure further afield to the town of Broadway – just a fifteen-minute drive away.

Located a stone's throw from the famous Fleece Inn, this delightful cottage is the definitive answer to that longing we get when driving past all those charming thatched roofs in the Cotswolds (though it's actually just over the border in Worcestershire). Your hosts have worked tirelessly to deliver interiors that feel both modern and historically charming at once – the greatest example of which being the upstairs bedrooms. Both are tucked under beams and eaves but still maintain an atmosphere of luxury through high-quality bedding and furniture. Start your day by tucking into breakfast in the bright conservatory before heading off to explore nearby villages – picturesque Chipping Campden is a twelve-minute drive away, while Bourton-on-the-Water is half an hour away. If cooking during your country break is not on the cards, the Fleece Inn is steps away and serves traditional English favourites, or you could arrange a private chef through your hosts. Then, at the end of a long day, return home to enjoy a quiet night in by the TV or watch the sun go down from the cushioned window seat.

The Little House by the Creek

Sitting atop Dover's Hill, this home boasts some of the finest views in the Cotswolds. It's a haven for amblers and outdoor enthusiasts. You're a stone's throw from the footpaths along the Cotswolds Way – perfect for walks with the dogs – while Chipping Campden and Moreton-in-Marsh are also nearby. Back home, the terrace is ideal for relaxing with a cup of tea (or something stronger) and admiring the idyllic scenery. Inside, an electric fireplace keeps things cosy during the cooler months, and there's even a vintage writer's desk for remote workers. Though there is a sofa bed here (which you can pay to use), we think it works best as a romantic retreat for two.

Built in the 18th century, it's hard to believe this pretty Cotswolds cottage was once the village police station. Now beautifully modernised, it's a great choice for a family gathering. With all the country walks you could dream of on your doorstep, it's also super convenient – just a five-minute walk from the village shop, cafe and pub in Blockley. Set over three floors and built of the same traditional stone you'll see across the road at the local church, it's a striking building with black-framed, arched windows. Inside, the period features continue with beamed ceilings, wood floors and some exposed stone walls. We especially love the log burning stove in the fireplace opening between the living room and dining room. Extended to the rear, there's a stunning kitchen with a huge roof lantern bringing light in. With a country feel but modern appliances and underfloor heating, it's the best of both worlds. Elsewhere, bedrooms are comfortable and effortlessly stylish. The top floor bedroom is our favourite, with its beautiful bed, sloping ceiling and luxury bathroom. On sunny days, heat up the barbecue and enjoy your meal on the terrace, or step into the table tennis room in the garden and play a few games while dinner cooks. Here you'll be just a twelve-minute drive from Stow-on-the-Wold.

Moreton-in-Marsh is just 3 miles away, and you can easily reach the northern Cotswolds Way if you want to stretch your legs. Take a bite out of this real chocolate box cottage in the Costwolds, set in heart of the pretty village of Ebrington. In an elevated position on a raised path, it's just steps away from the village church and the popular pub. Inside, the Grade II listed cottage has been recently been lovingly refurbished but it retains much of its character, with beamed ceilings, an open fireplace and a stone floor. The comfortable sofas are perfect for snuggling on after a day out walking or sightseeing and there's a charming eat-in kitchen with everything you could need. Upstairs, bedrooms are bright and comfortable, in relaxing shades of white and greys, and two bathrooms mean there won't be any queuing for the shower each morning. The enclosed garden is particularly beautiful in the spring and summer, with a table and chairs as well as a barbecue. Just a seven-minute drive from Chipping Campden and less than twenty-five minutes from both Stow-on-the-Wold and Stratford-upon-Avon, it's a perfect spot for exploring this part of the country.
