Dating back to the sixteenth century, this traditional stone cottage in the Cotswolds is bursting with rustic charm. Plenty of period features remain, including the inglenook fireplace now home to a wood-burning stove and the vaulted ceilings complete with ceiling beams.

However, there have been plenty of home improvements made in the past half-millennium. The beautifully arranged garden is a prime example, with the pergola and patio making it a lovely spot to catch the golden hour. Back inside, the rather grand dining-kitchen area is a modern interpretation of rural design, while we're willing to bet you'll also be thankful for the sleek bathtub after a long ramble.

The local village of Longborough has a twelfth-century church, two pubs and an opera festival that takes place in a converted barn during the summer months. Sezincote House and Garden makes for a splendid afternoon out and is only half an hour away on foot, too.

Staying here, you’ll be close to beautiful Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold, in an excellent location for hiking and cycling. You can also stroll to the village pub – the perfect end to a countryside walk. The cottage has period features galore, including oak beams, mullion windows, and a stone fireplace, alongside modern conveniences like a fully equipped kitchen. There’s a front lawn and a rear courtyard where you can dine alfresco in warm weather. 

Broadwell Beauty

You’ll find this renovated church in the village of Paxford, an ideal base from which to explore the Cotswolds. It may not be suitable for children due to the staircase design and historic fixtures throughout the home, but it offers a relaxing retreat for four guests. The mezzanine bedroom is impressive, if lacking a little in privacy, and offers a different perspective of the interiors of this historic building. It's home to chic restaurants, traditional inns, cosy pubs and plenty of independent shops ripe for browsing. With countryside walks on your doorstep and many Cotswolds attractions within driving distance, this is a desirable place to be – and we absolutely adore this cottage, which is smack-dab in the centre of town. Once an antique showroom, this inviting homestead is now filled with local artwork – including paintings by the host's grandfather – as well as The Cotswold Company furniture and every amenity you can think of. Snuggle up with a book in front of the wood-burner, challenge the family to a board game around the dining table or relax with a soak in the sumptuous master bathtub. The private courtyard is the perfect spot to savour a cup of tea or a cocktail in the sun. In the evenings, light the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco meal, gathering around the fire pit for toasted marshmallows when the air turns chilly.

Built in the 18th century, it's hard to believe this pretty Cotswolds cottage was once the village police station. Now beautifully modernised, it's a great choice for a family gathering. With all the country walks you could dream of on your doorstep, it's also super convenient – just a five-minute walk from the village shop, cafe and pub in Blockley. Set over three floors and built of the same traditional stone you'll see across the road at the local church, it's a striking building with black-framed, arched windows. Inside, the period features continue with beamed ceilings, wood floors and some exposed stone walls. We especially love the log burning stove in the fireplace opening between the living room and dining room. Extended to the rear, there's a stunning kitchen with a huge roof lantern bringing light in. With a country feel but modern appliances and underfloor heating, it's the best of both worlds. Elsewhere, bedrooms are comfortable and effortlessly stylish. The top floor bedroom is our favourite, with its beautiful bed, sloping ceiling and luxury bathroom. On sunny days, heat up the barbecue and enjoy your meal on the terrace, or step into the table tennis room in the garden and play a few games while dinner cooks. Here you'll be just a twelve-minute drive from Stow-on-the-Wold.

A Field in Bloom

With a terrace offering up a vista of the rolling north Cotswolds, it won't be a mystery why we added this home to our collection. Previously a home for silk mill workers, we loved how homely the space is – start a roaring fire in the inglenook fireplace (made with local stone, no less) and relax after a long hike or a short stroll through the local village. In the garden, the alfresco dining area is perfect for afternoon tea, while the sun loungers let you take in the view in-between naps. For dinner, you've got several pubs within a short walk here.

Set within a 14-acre meadow on the edge of the Cotswolds, this home was created with pure relaxation in mind. The minimalist interiors allow the views to shine – making this the ideal setting for a rural retreat. The outdoor space features a fire pit, barbecue and trampoline. We love the drop-down cinema screen in the living room (great for movie nights), plus there’s a ground-floor bedroom and bathroom – a nice option for those with reduced mobility. From your address, you can follow hiking trails, pick up fresh local produce from Daylesford Organic or drop into Soho Farmhouse – less than a twenty-minute drive away. 

Mindful Moments

Nestled away in the sort of picturesque village that's quintessentially Cotswolds, this home was once a barn in a former life and there are a few rustic traces to be spotted throughout, from the patches of stone flooring and wooden ceiling beams to the roaring fireplace in the living room.

However, these features are few and far between, with the rest of the living quarters treated to all the hallmarks of clean, contemporary design – we're talking stark white walls, gleaming kitchen surfaces and equally glossy bathrooms. Possibly our favourite part, however, is the conservatory at the back of the home, which is a lovely spot for lunch and a little bird-spotting.

If you're particularly lucky with the weather, you'll have the opportunity to make the most of the large garden, which goes around almost every side of the house so you can follow the course of the sun during the day. In the courtyard to the rear, there's also a large alfresco dining table that's just the spot for enjoying dinner fresh off the barbecue.

When you're in the mood to see a little more of the local area, there's a decent choice of walking routes to embark upon straight from the surrounding village of Paxton, but you can also easily reach other Cotswolds attractions – Batsford Arboretum is just over three miles away, for instance.

Standing along a smart row of 18th Century townhouses in Stow-on-the-Wold, you'll find this Grade II listed home. Don't be deceived by its chocolate-box façade. Step inside, and this ancient property is anything but twee. The four-storey house has been lovingly reimagined into a light-filled space awash in crisp whites, soothing greys and lavenders, and luxurious finishes. The original 1700's features remain (the oak beams and impressive stone staircase is quite something), while elsewhere, everything is firmly into the 21st Century. Climb the stairs to the top floor to discover a marble-clad bathroom with a double walk-in shower and a serene master bedroom boasting a sumptuous emperor-sized bed. At the heart of the home is an immaculate kitchen made for action and a large farmhouse dining table for you to all spill out. But if you don't fancy cooking, you're just a stone's throw to some of the best-known eateries and watering holes in the Cotswolds. While just next door, you'll find the Fosse Gallery – considered one of the best art galleries in the country. Now, how's that for a location?

If you’re looking for an easy-going stay in the Cotswolds, this cottage in the village of Moreton-in-Marsh is just the ticket. The Horse & Groom pub is only a three-minute walk away, and you’ll reach Daylesford and Stow-on-the-Wold in no more than five minutes by car. From the Aga in the kitchen for cooking hearty meals in the cooler months to the private patio for alfresco dining in the summer, this is a comfortable base all year round for a small family or close-knit group of friends.

Sure, it may be a little small in places and not very special to look at inside, but this is probably the wrong address for you if that's a problem. For everybody else, you'll love sitting out in the peaceful garden during warm afternoons or relaxing indoors after bracing rambles through the surrounding countryside.

This home could not be better located. Right in the heart of Stow-on-the-Wold, you'll be mere moments away from the village's tea rooms, shops, and restaurants. With a provided parking space, you'll also be able to explore further afield – just note that it's only suitable for compact vehicles. The design back home is contemporary yet cosy. Everyone can relax together in the open-plan living space, while the two en-suite bedrooms offer privacy. There's also a small terrace ideal for summer sundowners – or better yet, head to the pub up the road for a nightcap.

Experience the charms of the countryside from this beautiful Cotswolds home. It sits on a working farm with an award-winning farm shop next door; the dreamy private garden is a wonderful spot for a picnic lunch. Moreton-in-Marsh is just 3 miles away, and you can easily reach the northern Cotswolds Way if you want to stretch your legs. Idyllic setting aside, the honey-hued farmhouse is perfect for a family get-together, with a snug that’s ideal for kids and an elegant dining room with exposed beams for the grown-ups. Every bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, making this home as practical as it is comfortable.

Welcome to this beautiful 17th-century Cotswold cottage in the pretty village of Ebrington. This place is brimming with original features and some more modern additions, including the all-important wood-burning stove and a slipper bath. The house gets its name from the original water pump in the front garden, while out back, there's a deck with a sofa – perfect for an alfresco drink. We also love the secret garden room ideal for remote working (note it's not available to use during the winter months). It's just 2 miles to Hidcote Manor – a National Trust property – while the quintessential Cotswold village of Broadway is 8 miles away. Or, there's a highly regarded village pub a two-minute stroll from your door – perfect after a walk around the countryside.

The market town of Chipping Campden is 2.5 miles away to stock up on supplies, but it’s all about the quiet countryside idyll here. Glass bi-fold doors blend the indoors with the private garden where table and chairs on the patio catch the evening sun. Plus, there’s a barbecue for sunny days.

Words can't describe how much we adore this cosy and characterful Cotswold cottage. Deep-set window seats, a crackling wood-burning stove, original flagstone floors, traditional honey-coloured stone walls – this former farm worker's home has oodles of charm to go around. Wake up to far-reaching views over the countryside in the upstairs bedroom, then pad down to the kitchen for a cup of coffee and a hearty breakfast – the village shop down the road has plenty of fresh ingredients. On sunny days, take your fare into the rose-filled garden, watching as the world wakes up – if you're lucky, you may see a herd of deer or birds of prey in the neighbouring fields. Spend a chilled afternoon at home, working your way through the host's personal library, playing family board games or watching films on the DVD player in front of the fire. But if you're eager to get out and explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, don your walking shoes for a ramble through the rolling landscape – there are a number of walking paths on your doorstep. Blockley has a charming cafe and a traditional village pub, but Moreton-in-Marsh is a ten-minute drive away if you want a bit more choice. Or speak to your host about organising unique experiences like cooking classes, personal chefs and at-home massages to make your Cotswolds getaway extra special.

Set in the quaint village of Kingham, there's plenty of great pubs, restaurants and woodland footpaths nearby – you're perfectly placed for exploring the sprawling Cotswolds from this pretty cottage. Upon arrival, recharge your batteries with a hearty meal in the bright and airy dining area, benefitting from soaring ceilings and windows that flood the room with light. Cosy up with a good book around the exposed stone hearth fireplace or knock up few light bites in the modern kitchen with exposed beams overhead. While its rustic features add interest, the heated indoor pool and Turkish Hammam really steal the show – treat yourself to a morning dip, before exploring the gardens or sporting your finest whites on the tennis court. With so much to see and do around the home, we just know you'll run out of time at this peaceful oasis.

Nestled in Todenham village, this home is perfect for those keen to explore the great outdoors. It’s comfortable for six people, although the third bedroom is a bit of a squeeze and has a wardrobe on the landing. That said, throughout the cottage, you’re met with 17th-century charm – just mind your head on those sloping ceilings and beautiful old beams. With three country pubs within 3-5 miles and a farm shop selling local produce a short walk away, you won’t be short of options at mealtimes. In summer, alfresco dinners in the quaint cottage garden are a must.
