You’ll find this renovated church in the village of Paxford, an ideal base from which to explore the Cotswolds. It may not be suitable for children due to the staircase design and historic fixtures throughout the home, but it offers a relaxing retreat for four guests. With a terrace offering up a vista of the rolling north Cotswolds, it won't be a mystery why we added this home to our collection. Previously a home for silk mill workers, we loved how homely the space is – start a roaring fire in the inglenook fireplace (made with local stone, no less) and relax after a long hike or a short stroll through the local village. In the garden, the alfresco dining area is perfect for afternoon tea, while the sun loungers let you take in the view in-between naps. For dinner, you've got several pubs within a short walk here.

Dating back to the sixteenth century, this traditional stone cottage in the Cotswolds is bursting with rustic charm. Plenty of period features remain, including the inglenook fireplace now home to a wood-burning stove and the vaulted ceilings complete with ceiling beams.

However, there have been plenty of home improvements made in the past half-millennium. The beautifully arranged garden is a prime example, with the pergola and patio making it a lovely spot to catch the golden hour. Back inside, the rather grand dining-kitchen area is a modern interpretation of rural design, while we're willing to bet you'll also be thankful for the sleek bathtub after a long ramble.

The local village of Longborough has a twelfth-century church, two pubs and an opera festival that takes place in a converted barn during the summer months. Sezincote House and Garden makes for a splendid afternoon out and is only half an hour away on foot, too.

Built in the 18th century, it's hard to believe this pretty Cotswolds cottage was once the village police station. Now beautifully modernised, it's a great choice for a family gathering. With all the country walks you could dream of on your doorstep, it's also super convenient – just a five-minute walk from the village shop, cafe and pub in Blockley. Set over three floors and built of the same traditional stone you'll see across the road at the local church, it's a striking building with black-framed, arched windows. Inside, the period features continue with beamed ceilings, wood floors and some exposed stone walls. We especially love the log burning stove in the fireplace opening between the living room and dining room. Extended to the rear, there's a stunning kitchen with a huge roof lantern bringing light in. With a country feel but modern appliances and underfloor heating, it's the best of both worlds. Elsewhere, bedrooms are comfortable and effortlessly stylish. The top floor bedroom is our favourite, with its beautiful bed, sloping ceiling and luxury bathroom. On sunny days, heat up the barbecue and enjoy your meal on the terrace, or step into the table tennis room in the garden and play a few games while dinner cooks. Here you'll be just a twelve-minute drive from Stow-on-the-Wold.

This home could not be better located. Right in the heart of Stow-on-the-Wold, you'll be mere moments away from the village's tea rooms, shops, and restaurants. With a provided parking space, you'll also be able to explore further afield – just note that it's only suitable for compact vehicles. The design back home is contemporary yet cosy. Everyone can relax together in the open-plan living space, while the two en-suite bedrooms offer privacy. There's also a small terrace ideal for summer sundowners – or better yet, head to the pub up the road for a nightcap.

A unique architect-designed home, this house is set in a Grade II listed area and has stunning views of the Cotswold National Park. Outside, there’s a lawned garden (unfenced) and a hot tub – the perfect place to relax. Inside this home, set over two levels (with a spiral staircase), you’ll find a cosy lounge with a fire. One thing to note, the ground-floor bathroom is quite small, but there are two other bathrooms here. With the charming village of Blockley nearby and the historic market town of Moreton-in-Marsh, you'll have plenty to explore.

Nestled away in the sort of picturesque village that's quintessentially Cotswolds, this home was once a barn in a former life and there are a few rustic traces to be spotted throughout, from the patches of stone flooring and wooden ceiling beams to the roaring fireplace in the living room.

However, these features are few and far between, with the rest of the living quarters treated to all the hallmarks of clean, contemporary design – we're talking stark white walls, gleaming kitchen surfaces and equally glossy bathrooms. Possibly our favourite part, however, is the conservatory at the back of the home, which is a lovely spot for lunch and a little bird-spotting.

If you're particularly lucky with the weather, you'll have the opportunity to make the most of the large garden, which goes around almost every side of the house so you can follow the course of the sun during the day. In the courtyard to the rear, there's also a large alfresco dining table that's just the spot for enjoying dinner fresh off the barbecue.

When you're in the mood to see a little more of the local area, there's a decent choice of walking routes to embark upon straight from the surrounding village of Paxton, but you can also easily reach other Cotswolds attractions – Batsford Arboretum is just over three miles away, for instance.

There's something to satisfy everyone's wanderlust at this charming period cottage nestled right in the beating heart of Chipping Campden. This is your gateway to the best of the Cotswolds – Market Hall, The Spa at Cotswold House and Chipping Campden's bustling high street are all within walking distance. And when it's time to explore further afield, jump in the car and you can be in the chocolate-box villages of Bourton-on-the Water and Stow-on-the-Wold in fifteen minutes flat. 

Back at this cosy home away from home, exposed Cotswold stone walls, higgledy-piggledy beams and a crackling wood-burning stove bring all the charm. While we liked the comfortable bedrooms and sparkling bathrooms, what really blew us away was the impressive kitchen and dining area. It's the true hub of the home, with plenty of room to cook and dine together. We can easily imagine mornings here, the French doors open wide as you sip coffee on the patio and tuck into a lazy breakfast around the dining table. We also loved the techy extras, like nest heating, electronic locks and Google Home Bluetooth speakers. With the occasional bleat from the neighbouring sheep your only distraction, it doesn't get much more charming than this.

A true recipient of the Plum Award, this home has also received the Green Tourism Silver Award, in recognition of this host's dedication to green initiatives such as energy and water efficiency and mindful waste reduction. Your host can share recommendations on local farmers markets and shops selling locally-sourced food, as well as eco-friendly activities such as cycling routes and nature trails to help you enjoy your stay in Chipping Campden, all the while reducing your carbon footprint. It's a win-win.

With three country pubs within 3-5 miles and a farm shop selling local produce a short walk away, you won’t be short of options at mealtimes. In summer, alfresco dinners in the quaint cottage garden are a must.

Once an antique showroom, this inviting homestead is now filled with local artwork – including paintings by the host's grandfather – as well as The Cotswold Company furniture and every amenity you can think of. Snuggle up with a book in front of the wood-burner, challenge the family to a board game around the dining table or relax with a soak in the sumptuous master bathtub. The private courtyard is the perfect spot to savour a cup of tea or a cocktail in the sun. Inside, the Grade II listed cottage has been recently been lovingly refurbished but it retains much of its character, with beamed ceilings, an open fireplace and a stone floor. The comfortable sofas are perfect for snuggling on after a day out walking or sightseeing and there's a charming eat-in kitchen with everything you could need. Upstairs, bedrooms are bright and comfortable, in relaxing shades of white and greys, and two bathrooms mean there won't be any queuing for the shower each morning. The enclosed garden is particularly beautiful in the spring and summer, with a table and chairs as well as a barbecue. Just a seven-minute drive from Chipping Campden and less than twenty-five minutes from both Stow-on-the-Wold and Stratford-upon-Avon, it's a perfect spot for exploring this part of the country.
